Thanks! My setup is awfully similar to what Billy was using at the time. It seems like he used a Mesa Boogie preamp for a lot of his older tones. I'm using a Mesa Mark V, which is kind of like a Mesa Boogie's "greatest hits" type of an amp, so it does a really nice job of emulating his tones...one of my favorite chill songs too! I think Porcelina and Thru The Eyes Of Ruby are my top 2 favorites from this album in that department.
yeah it sounds amazing, i need to upgrade my amp in near future. have you ever used those line 6 pods? i know most guitar players prefer natural sound of real amps, but im wondering if for someone like me who likes playing all different kinds of stuff if that would be a good fit. if you could do a gear/guitar video in the future like the guy below me suggested, that'd be awesome...
Yeah, I think I will do a gear video since a lot of people have asked for that. I'm personally not a fan of any of the modeling type stuff from Line 6. Even the Line 6/Bogner amp with a full blown tube section doesn't sound that great to me. If I were you, I would save your money for a good tube amp. Blackstar, Brugera, and Egnator are all making fairly affordable all tube amps these days.
Thanks! Yeah, my rig is sort of similar to a stripped down version of what he used to record Mellon Collie...A Mesa Boogie amp or a Mesa Preamp run through just about any power amp (I believe he used Marshalls and Oranges mainly on that album) with a Gibson guitar with a hum bucker will get you really close to the tone for this song.
I find the verbal explanation much harder and slower to understand than an actual image of the chords would be,, i have most of them now but the bridge in particular im finding confusing, hard without lowering the pitch of my guitar. Is there a written version?
That entire album is such a masterpiece! It and Siamese Dream were a huge part of my childhood ... such a beautiful record all the way through ! Can you do a tutorial of “Thirty Three” sometime? Or “In the Arms Of Sleep” been playing for about 18 years on and off , after getting sober , I stopped playing ..... its been kinda rough playing again , fingers have no calluses anymore . Sucks only play acoustically, used to be able to hold a lighter to them lol probably intermediate level
I'm having trouble understanding the bridge is there a place I can email questions for finger placement, I've learned everything you've shown but the bridge.
@@MattBrownGuitar I picked up most of the song by ear. But the end I wasn't sure if I had it right. But I watched your video again & it does song right. Most of have been half asleep. But it took me for ever to learn the end. If you would have said the frets numbers I would have had it in seconds. Kind of hard to see your fingers. This song should have been a cake walk. I just can't believe there's not one website with the correct Tab for this song. When I was trying to learn the end I watched a few covers. And my god talk about play it wrong. Anyways thanks for your time, it was helpful. Much appreciated
Thanks! I might do a song or two in the future. Sonic Youth is a band that I've always really respected and tried to get into, but just can't for some reason.
It would be better if you'd play each note individually while you are playing chord instead of saying numbers and frets . To me, personally, it's confusing
@Matt Brown's Guitar Studio Can you try both ? I don't think it will take too much time . I didn't mean nameing notes but to just arpagiate chords clearly so we can catch them by ear . Good chanel overall!
This song is one of Corgan's most beautiful songs.
agreed!
Thank god this is here. I had my doubts about finding a lesson
Glad you found it! :)
This is a great lesson. 10/10
Thanks a lot, Adam!
great lesson matt, your sound is perfect for this one, this is probably my favorite softer song on this album, really beautiful song!

thanx a lot 4 the info matt, yeah i will most likely end up going with a tube amp....
Awesome! I think you'll be happier going that route.
Love that tone Matt. You've nailed it

@@MattBrownGuitar A bit comfusing at the end (non native englishs speaker) but I got the idea. 👍
Thanks for the lesson.
no problem!

You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the lesson! Is there any way you could do a lesson for Hummer?
Yeah, I might do that one in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!
Tones nailed! Very nice job!
Thanks Jay and thanks for watching! :)

@@MattBrownGuitar thank you so much.
can you make a vid and show us all your guitars/gear
Yeah, I think that's a good idea...I'll do that in the near future.
Ritchie Sefarin he will today he told me
Nice video! Saludos desde Ecuador
Gracias! Saludos desde Chicago!
Can you do jelly belly off of this album? Appreciate all these lessons btw
yeah, i hope to get back to some of the songs from this album this year.
It will be so much simple with the chords displayed but thanks
If you think the tabs would be helpful, I'd be glad to send them to you. Just send me an email and I'll send them back: Matt.brown13@gmail.com
One of my favorites. But bridge part sounds off imo
it's not...there are a lot of synth strings on the recording during that part that are probably throwing your perspective off.

Hey love your vids. Would you wanna try doing some sonic youth? Id love that

Man wearing a pretty hate machine album shirt. We are very similar.
hell yeah! nice to meet ya Jeff!!!
Can you do by starlight?
Yes. I'll be getting back to the Mellon Collie stuff in a couple weeks.
Matt Brown sweet 😀😀
Probably won’t see this comment but if you do can you please teach tarantula by smashing pumpkins?
that's a strong maybe for the future. I've always dug that song. thanks for suggesting it!
Matt Brown no problem, and thank you for replying
Why is the guy from seether teaching smashing pumpkins songs. Lol jk. Great vid🤘

yeah, I'm with you, but the other half of people yell at me if I say notes instead of frets...
