Great to see and brings back a lot of memories!
My Dad bought a new 343DL in 1981- collected on new registration day- 1 August!
On an X reg. It was in a kind of light powder blue colour. I remember it was very posh as it had headlight wipers!
Many miles were travelled in that car as a kid- and i had driving lessons in it at the local old air strip.
Was allowed to drive it myself when i passed my test in 1989.
My dad eventually traded it in for a two year old Honda Civic in September 1997.
    XYD 744X- rip!

My first car was the exact same model but the light blue solid colour 😍🇸🇪 After a gap where I had a Rover 216 Vitesse I went back to an E reg 340 GL 1.7 5 door, followed by an F reg 340 GLE 1.7 saloon. A couple of cars later (Astra & Clio) I bought a 2007 C30 2.0D Sport which I still have. Inbetween then and now I also had a rebel blue V40 R-Design 😀

My parents had one exactly the same when I was young, same colour with blue seats (w reg). I remember going to a exhaust shop for a new backbox and looking at all the bends in the exhaust. I remember the tyre under the bonnet. I also remember when one of the wheel trims fell off and dad walked I guess half a mile back down the road until he found it. It's the first car I ever remember. It would have been quite an old car when we had it in the early to mid 90s. I would have only been 6 or so when my parents traded it in (for a fiat regata). But weirdly I remember it really well. (I'm the same age now that my parents were when they owned it, which is mad when I think about it).
My mum to this day says it's was her favourite ever car.

Awww that's so lovely to hear; it's funny the little details you remember. I would have been like your dad if I lost a wheel trim!

I am so envious. I have a A-reg Volvo 340DL and I was lucky to get that. For you to have a very early 5dr, that is a life time opportunity. Not many left of my model, let alone your one.

I love seeing the cars kept original, there are plenty which have been changed over the years so original ones are quite a rare thing. I've recently become the owner of a 1986 1.4DL which is also unmolested and I intend to keep that way.

@@MorselsAndMotors It's a white 3 door with 4 speed manual with 41k on the clock - I haven't even ot anything posh like your door bins (options envy!) Looks like you have a great collection of cars there - I'd love an early 80's one but finding a good one at a sensible price isn't easy.

Very nice original car. I owned a 340 GL 1983 3 door. In the late 80's did over 150k in 3yrs in it.
Then I went onto a 360 Gls. It was stunning. I always wanted the 360GLT. But got a 340 saloon.
Then I switched to the 740's loved all.

Very nice example. In the late 1980s my dad expressed an interest in a used 345 (had to have at least 4 doors!) but he bought an MG Maestro 1600 instead.

GUE 478T . My mum exported one to Kenya after completing her MA from Birmingham University in 1991. A Volvo 343 DL 3-door. Broke down and was sold off in a grounded state in 1998.A chance though for Volvo to learn from Renault how to manufacture Cleon-Fonte engines.

Americans are too proud with their meaningless, opulent and wasteful fuel guzzling deathtraps.Go back to carburettor engines and steel bodies not aluminium and computerized spare parts!!!!!

My A-reg 340DL middle vents always blow cold air whereas the end ones blow hot or cold.

When you drive it, does it attract attention?

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  3 года назад

Actually this car doesn't for some reason! I think it may be the colour, as the almost identical green 345 I have definitely gets people looking.

@@MorselsAndMotors My 1984 Volvo 340DL is a lighter blue than your 345 and many times I saw people stop to have a look. Maybe you green one got more attention was because back in the 80s more green ones were around, so people still have fond memories of them. I would love you to do a test drive of either the V-reg or W-reg one. I just want to listen to that 1397cc Renault engine sing its tune.

Nice video 👍 but it was a very sturdy car to drive. I never liked it. After that time I always drove BMW 6 cilinders. So much better.
