Ian is truly enjoying this gig, it shows. He is tiring out on second song when he bows and stays down a wile. Ian been on meds for epilipsy 2 months in this video and shows signs of effect from the barbituates. This was a month befor his daughter Natalie was born. Ian's true problems were just starting and appearing to show in his performances. Ian gave hid all which made this work and made for a very special performance that stands out today! He was a great singer, musician, and had great dance moves he alone created. Not only did Ian with the band make British History, Ian made Music History! Thanks Ian for all your hard work and talent from someone who truly appreciate you from America

i personally feel if he didnt commit suicide he would been able to refine his dance moves and become a dancing icon because ive never seen any musician with such raw energy. Regardless, Ian Curtis is a still a living legend and i just finished listening to their two albums. Gold!

He wasn't a 'great singer'; his ability fell very short even of Rock norms. But when you consider that he died at only 23, I have no doubt that had he lived and been coached, his incredibly powerful voice would have become as 'great' as Iggy, Lou or Jim.

You know, I discovered Unknown Pleasures when I was 13-14 (currently 33) by total happenstance, and its been one of my favorite records my whole life. But in reality Ian was gone 7 years before I was born, and 20-21 years before I discovered his music, yet I still to this tear up watching these old live shows, feeling like I was there, wish i was.

Whenever I have seen a band live whose music is for the most part something completely new to me, it is has always been difficult to know exactly how to move to the music. And when I see a band live, moving to the music for me is a MUST! That being said, I have always relied on the members of the band to show me the way ... usually the singer who tends to be the most energetic of any member of the band. Case in point being Ian Curits. What is obvious here though is that if you follow my lead ... or Ian's, the room would be filled with a bunch of people dancing The Epileptic Fit ... if there were such a dance :-) In the '80s I would from time to time try to dance like Ian to see if anybody would notice ... or follow my lead. I don't think it worked even one time :-P I do know people noticed but I'm not sure they wanted to emulate my "moves". The thing is, once I felt I had Ian's style down, I felt I could dance to pretty much ANYTHING! But I was probably one of the few who actually knew what Ian looked like dancing. Because around 1983 or 1984 I purchased Here Are The Young Men not on VHS, but Betamax tape. I still have it and it has only been played once! Because I had it copied to VHS because I didn't own a Betamax player, but the only way I could find the concert footage was on Betamax. So I had some place transfer the tape from Betamax to VHS for me because I needed to see Joy Division LIVE! And now we have RUclips and anybody can watch Here are the Young Men :-) Ha! One person dislikes this video. Go figure?

      @@thelooch9546 Agreed!
I love that term as well as the PiL song of the same name from Metal 1 / 2nd Edition. I have though never understood why that song is known as Swan Lake on LP but Death Disco when released as a single?
I had to look that up just now to satisfy my curiosity since we now have this thing known as The Internet. And it appears there is a slight difference that I was not aware of between single and LP version.
Thank you for your comment because I would not know this tidbit of info had you not commented :-)

@Mr Oneiroman To this day I have yet to give The Pop Group a listen. I have heard them and do know what they sound like, but I honestly cannot remember what it was that put them atop my Must Listen To list. Usually that is enough to make it happen but the vinyl is costly and the mp3s I downloaded were crap. And seriously that never happens to me. I download mp3s too often with wonderful results! Anyway, all that said, you just got me back on track as I am listening to Y via RUclips and will download as well as look into a vinyl purchase because downloading mp3s only does not sit well with me. I know buying an album off eBay or discogs does nothing to put $ in the musicians pockets unless I were to purchase New mp3s, I just cannot and will not do that. If I’m going to spend $ then I need something physical to look at, hold, admire, show off, etc. and mp3s for how convenient they are, I cannot do any of that with them and therefore do not love them the same way. And I hardly think I am unique in that way. One last thing. Of the 3 albums you mentioned, JD, PiL, Pop Group, I know I am going to do what I said and that is get Y one way or another, but like now, every time I have given any of that album a listen I have to prepare myself. Because let’s face it, even if you love that album, a person has got to admit it is Not the most accessible of listens. It is ... uh, challenging Yes No? I wouldn’t think it would be the first thing a person would put on the turntable after an exceptionally grueling day at work where you want to come hone, pop open a cold one, and relax to ... The Pop Group? Do you relax to them? I suppose you could after the 4th or 5th cold one. Eh, I will continue on my quest and see for myself.
OK, enough of my ramblings. I have music to track down!
Thx again for lighting that fire underneath me :-)

Funny how Ian dances around like Frankenstein while the band looks stoic. He’s also a terrible singer, but for some reason it just works. Style and originality can trump ability. There are some great technical singers out there that are a bore to listen to, just as there are technically terrible singers who I love to listen to. I’m a sucker for the older cure stuff and chuck mosely faith no more era. Let’s not forget how raspy Tom waits is or Dylan. Love joy division.
