The sad part is fandoms are where fans of common things get to come together to discuss and enjoy these things together. But with Star Wars, the less I interact with the fandom, the more I enjoy being a fan.

Same. The new shows are amazing. These people don't even try to watch or understand the theme or the story. They just conditioned themselves to hate it and that's what they're trying to do. They sit there to find a scene they don't like ''hurr this stormtrooper took 1 step too much'' ''hurr plott'' because they can't get themselves to allow these new shows to have the benefit of the doubt of being fiction like they do with the OT. If you sit and try to find something to hate, either it be some narrative decision to help the protagonists or a small logical mistake then you will find issues with every movie, show, cartoon whatever out there. If the OT came out today they would shit on it more than the current ones due to all of its problems. Remember all the flack Obi Wan got because the lightsaber bounced off something? It did so in the OT too. The hyprocrisy.

Yeah, they're whiney bitches. I did not like Episodes 8 and 9 from the main saga, but I just kinda dealt with it in my head canon and moved on to other star wars movies and shows that I like, and I've liked more than I've disliked so far. They over exaggerate and everything is a "world ending problem." They're afraid of lore and canon growing and so things are immediately a "loophole" or "breaks canon" but you really just find out these fans are terribly uncreative and unimaginative and blame the writers because they can't perceive how it works or aren't willing to accept that it does.

@@damiantirado9616 It's not though. The only things that are really bad on a writing level is the Rise of Skywalker and Book of Boba Fett in the current run of Disney Star Wars. The rest of Disney Star Wars don't have severe writing problems to the point where they would be considered bad but there is a argument to be made that they break canon and disrespect George Lucas which I disagree with the breaking of canon part of that. It could be disrespecting George Lucas but that doesn't bother me that much cause all I am looking for is a good story not if it pleases the creator. If Lucas wanted to continue Star Wars then he should of kept the franchise. The biggest reasonings from what I saw from videos for why Disney of Star Wars sucks is because it goes against canon and George which someone like Star Wars Theory has made a good amount of videos talking about it.

@@CometStar100 I don’t care about George Lucas he ruined Star Wars along time ago with the prequels.
Disney Star Wars sucks too they do have bad writing. The force awakens isn’t a good film kid. It’s a bland copy of a new Hope, the only character that has character development is Finn. Apart from that all the characters in that movie are bland and dull.
The last Jedi has tons of terrible writing, same thing goes for Rouge One and Solo a Star Wars story which is incredibly stupid nostalgia bait movie.
You only enjoy the new stuff because of nostalgia. Kenobi is very badly written too.
The only thing that is good is the Mandalorian season one. But the Mandalorian season one isn’t great it’s okay at best. 7/10 type of show. The problem is Hollywood this days makes crap tv shows and movies that you people are so used to terrible and dull writing, so when Hollywood uses nostalgia bait you enjoy it, or when Hollywood makes the minimum effort at doing something interesting like the Mandalorian you think it’s a master when in reality it’s just average and amateur filmmaking.
In summary your expectations are so low due to trash filmmaking that an okay/average movie or tv show with nostalgia makes you feel like it’s a masterpiece cause it’s the best you’ve seen compared to the rest of the crap they have.
Edit: if you’re a true film fan and watch movies made in the past analyze them and watch movies this days you would know Hollywood makes pure trash this days. Especially Star Wars. I recommend you to watch Mr. Plinkett Star Wars reviews, you will learn a lot about filmmaking by watching those videos, probably the best Star Wars reviewer ever. Most RUclipsrs review Star Wars by using their nostalgia “hey look Han Solo showed up and I like him, movie is a 8/10” that’s not how you review a film. But most people only care about nostalgia this days so Hollywood doesn’t make anything better.

    • @TheChristianPsychopath
      @TheChristianPsychopath 4 месяца назад +1

This is an issue of internal consistency. The Force working differently in every story is a major brand problem. One of the promises with the canon reset was better consistency, but given that it's been less consistent, it makes the canon reset seem like an even worse decision. They really need a continuity team.
That said. There's a difference between consistency in how the Force works, and different characters having different abilities. The issue with Sabine is as much about character inconsistency as Force inconsistency. But internal consistency is an issue of quality and good writing, particularly in science fiction and fantasy settings, and Star Wars straddles those two genres.
It really doesn't matter how Hyperspace works, except it needs to work that way consistency to maintain the suspension of disbelief. If you don't want to work within the rules of given universe, just go write something original and don't call it Star Wars.

It’s just a superhero franchise, not some Oscar material, so stop trying to act like it’s adult or deep or something.”

Yes, but, you know why that is? I think the answer is easy enough to see. Lucas had a great vision in the beginning, which after the first two films started to change. Then he sold it all to Disney who usually aren't making SW shows with any of Lucas' vibe. So we've ended up with a range of different 'vibes' which different people have really, really fallen for. Then some portion of the fan base is bound to end up unhappy when the next movie or series to come out doesn't give them more of what they want.
Compare this to the Harry Potter series of novels (just the first lot). You had one writer, with a consistent vision and story she wanted to tell from start to finish. Because the vision was always consistent, the fan base never got split (to any degree like the SW fan base). In other words, I don't think the fans are especially bad - I just think they've each fallen in love with different phases of this fictional universe, and they can't get their fix anymore because Lucas didn't have the ideas or motivation to keep going in the same vein as he started.

I find people were accepting of Force Awakens at first because while being too similar to the originals in beats, it had some possibilities for the future movies. Then the next movies came, and didn't do anything good with what it set up, and became worse after the fact.
The same with the prequels, they became better over time, in part due to how poorly the new movies were received and how much additional content that came in and added to them, via the Clone Wars and such.
Myself, although the majority of the new media from Disney has not been good to me, I also find that Andor is the single best Star Wars media that has come out, and Rogue One I found to be overall excellent.

Why do Star wars fans hate everything? The real simple reasons are these:
    1. Woke politics: People are sick and tired of woke politics/agendas in their star war films. They want characters who are genuine which aren't based on their races or sexualities. It's not woke to cast a black woman, it's woke to use her as a stereotypical angry black woman and then make her the centerpiece of your show instead of the main character. People aren't there to see that woman, they are there to see the main character. People wanted to see Obiwan and Anakin scenes and interactions, that woman kept getting in the way of that. Obviously everyone hated her existence because of that and the massive amount of plot armor given to her. This is what all these diversity loons do not understand. As well as the whole "girls get it done" trope.
    2. Bad writing which makes no sense. I don't think I need to explain this one.

As true today as it was two years ago, and I suspect will be true in the future. Thanks for the insight. I think people pay waaaay too much attention to pre-release press and obsess over every little detail that leaks and spin narratives and become obsessed with the drama before ever seeing the product. And while the products do have flaws, as do all human works, the backlash (for some people) has become as much a part of the fandom as the thing itself. And the older fans don't seem to realize that new fans are growing up and replacing them every day, and Star Wars really is supposed to be for the youth. That's why it pays to stay young at heart and enjoy it as it comes, rather than trying to impose your will on it. Wow, it really is a case of life imitating art.

What I don’t understand is the hate for making the casts more diverse and representative of the general population. I know I shouldn’t be at this point but I’m genuinely confused by the hate that any movie/franchise gets when they start to include more Black, LGBT, or female actors in the cast. Immediately it gets labeled as “social Justice warrior bullsh*t”. I mean, does a movie have to have all the characters be white in order for you to like it? If so…yikes! I don’t value those opinions at all. I’ve seen those people hate the new Star Wars and the new Star Trek series.

Just because you have non white straight or male characters doesn't make them interesting. You have to put in effort to make them more than their race gender and sexuality.
What makes a lot of 80s franchises stood the test of time is because they manage to transcend politics religion race gender and sexuality and speak to people on a human level. They were timeless.
And anything that tries to reflect the times or be modern for today isn't going to last long.

There is no care for their character or acting, and there's no quality control for the story as a whole. People are also annoyed that these diverse characters are strategically used to deflect any and all criticism of the show, mudying the grounds by making any honest conversation of its quality preventively labeled as "-ist/-obe". It goes like clockwork.
You don't need to have black characters, or female characters, or LGBT characters. You need good characters.

Because I was never a Star Wars fan, I feel like I can give an unbiased opinion that isn't tainted with the rose colored glasses known as nostalgia. I honestly think all the films, 1-9, spinoffs, and series are pretty good overall. Nothing exactly groundbreaking but nothing overly bad either. Average as a franchise, solid B- overall. Honestly I find the fandom menace so much more interesting(and groups that just want to hate on pop media stuff in general) It just seems so interesting to me on how so many people can expend so much energy on something that brings them such dissatisfaction. It astonishes me how much politics tends to shape it too, particularly identity politics. It's at the point I feel like people have more riding on disliking a Star Wars project rather then let themselves enjoy what they can. That's where I think grifters come in. They help feed into the rhetoric to make the angered fans feel more valid in their discontent , and then get views, clicks, revenue, whatever. This was a very nice video and I like how you discussed this topic (rambling included). I have mixed feelings on it, because what is considered "toxic negativity" can be subjective, and I do get some of the fan frustrations. Your comparison is the MCU--how would you like it if, after Age of Ultron, every single MCU movie that was released was made with bad storytelling, weak CGI, ignored previous films and was clearly made without considering the fans?
The lead writer of Kenobi just admitted in an article that he didn't know whether or not Kenobi knew Anakin's Sith name, Vader. He had to ask another staff member at Lucasfilm film, Pablo Hidalgo. The only way you CANNOT know this information, is if you didn't bother watching Revenge of the Sith before working on the script for a series with a character from said movie, set closely in the timeline to said movie. It's said multiple times in the movie to Kenobi.
I try to take it in stride--it's fiction and I can decide what's "canon." But it does feel blatantly disrespectful and one of the reasons fans are so harsh is because Disney has lost consumer trust.

IF YOU WILL INDULGE ME, PLEASE READ THIS THROUGH TO THE END,
AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY I WILL ALWAYS LOVE STAR WARS...
AND HOPEFULLY CONVINCE YOU WHY YOU ALWAYS SHOULD, TOO....(CONTINUED BELOW)...
A long time ago in the summer of 1977, I was a 10 year old kid who, one day, walked into a movie theatre to see "some far-out space movie" that was rapidly becoming "the talk of the town" on the schoolyard playground... I walked in an innocent, naive little child, only interested in Duncan Yo-yos, Mad Libs, Marshall Brodien TV Magic Cards, and Evel Knievel... I walked out CHANGED FOREVER.
On that glorious day, I had seen the greatest movie that would EVER be made... STAR WARS... This groundbreaking film from writer/director George Lucas TOTALLY changed my life... It absolutely blew me away, filling my heart with joy, stimulating my imagination, and kick-starting my love for cinema... That day was momentous for me, and I would never be the same again.. I will never forget it..
From the moment the 20th Century Fox fanfare and John Williams' theme blasted through the theatre speaker system, and "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" and that "Flash Gordon inspired" opening crawl came on the screen, and that gigantic Star Destroyer appeared, flying over my head, towering above me as I sat in my theatre seat... and kept going... and going...and going... and as the entire audience gasped with amazement... at that very moment, I was instantaneously mesmerized, transfixed, and transformed... and I was only 5 minutes into the movie... I still had 2 more hours to go!
By that time, I had seen a small handful of very good and (for their time) very impressive big-screen spectacles in the theatre, such as: The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974), At the Earth's Core (1976), Logan's Run (1976), and King Kong (1976)... but NOTHING could have prepared me (or the rest of the world) for the phenomenon that was STAR WARS and the change it would bring... the film that would propel a 1970's audience far beyond their wildest film-going expectations, and revolutionize the motion picture industry FOREVER. Words can never fully describe what it was like to be alive in the summer of 1977 during the peak height of "Star Wars Mania"... except to say that it was pure MAGIC.
I became an instant fanatic... I saw the film 11 times in the movie theatre... I sneaked my portable tape recorder into the theatre and audio-recorded the entire film so that I could listen to the adventure over and over in the comfort of my own bedroom... I dressed up in a make-shift Darth Vader costume for Halloween...I collected the action figures, the trading cards, the posters, the books, the model kits, and much more (and I STILL have all of that "stuff") ... I always wore my Star Wars T-shirt... I always drank out of my Star Wars cup... I listened to John Williams' Star Wars soundtrack album constantly, becoming a fan of symphonic and film score music... I watched "The Making of Star Wars" TV special, becoming fascinated by the way movies were made, even making a few myself with my Super-8 camera... I watched the Academy Awards for the very first time to see my favorite movie sweep the Oscars with 10 nominations and 7 wins... I even watched the "infamous" Holiday Special in 1978 ... Lumpy... Itchy... Harvey Korman... Bea Arthur... Wookiee-ookiees... And I loved it... ("Hey, I was 11!").
And after 46 years, I continue to love STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE more and more... It has aged like fine wine... It is my #1 favorite movie of all time, followed by my 2nd favorite movie of all time: The Empire Strikes Back, and my 3rd favorite movie of all time: Return of the Jedi...These 3 movies are flawless and perfect, collectively making up not only the greatest cinematic trilogy ever made... but the three greatest films of any kind ever made... and the greatest cinematic story ever told... PERIOD.
However, it all comes back to the very first 1977 film... This one is so pure and innocent... Its story is totally self-contained, without one needing to see any other Star Wars film to understand it... As summed up perfectly in the film's teaser trailer narration: "It's the story of a boy, a girl, and a universe... of rebellion and romance... of heroes, and villains, and aliens from a 1,000 worlds"... That says it all...
It is the perfect story... the perfect film... a phenomenon... a bona fide classic.. a MASTERPIECE..
    Side note:
As a first generation STAR WARS fan, I proudly declare that... Yes... I LOVE the Prequel Trilogy films as well... absolutely... and totally stand behind them... they are amazing films, oozing with imagination and creativity... I like them just as much as the Original Trilogy... They have aged very well, proving themselves as great and worthy additions to the Star Wars Saga..... It's nice to see that there seems to be a re-evaluation of them in recent years, and they are getting much more love and respect now.
I consider myself lucky... because I've ALWAYS loved them...
And the Sequel Trilogy?... I like it fine... It's very entertaining, even if it didn't reach its full potential... It is a shame that Lucas sold off Lucasfilm and didn't get to give us HIS intended version.. The PROPER version... Of course, the reason that didn't happen was because of the toxic portion of the SW fanbase (mostly from MY generation, I'm embarrassed to say) that needlessly lambasted the Prequel films in the cruelest ways to the point that Lucas couldn't take it any more and gave up (Can you blame him?)... Still, even though I have my criticisms (and I know this seems to be an unpopular opinion these days) I do enjoy them...
IMO: I liked Luke's character arc in TLJ... It may have seemed unexpected at first, but it kept in the tradition of the past... Has everyone forgotten that both Yoda AND Obi-Wan did the exact same thing by going into exile?... (What is Lucas always quoted as saying?... "It's like poetry... It rhymes")...
And once Luke finally DID return... "WOW"... What a moment!
IMO: I have ALWAYS thought that IF ONLY Force Ghost Anakin and Force Ghost Luke could have been seen physically on screen standing alongside Rey to help finally take down the Emperor (instead of just hearing their voices) at the end of TROS, that would have PERFECTLY tied all three trilogies together much more effectively, and made all the difference in the eyes of MANY Sequel critics.
I thought that Rogue One, Solo, and Kenobi were all very good (Kenobi should have been a movie) ..
I like the Clone Wars animated show from Lucas very much.. Hey, I even like the two Ewok TV movies! (But then, I even get demented pleasure from the train wreck known as the Holiday Special, so what do I know?) The Mandalorian, Andor, and The Book of Boba Fett were passable time-killers, ...
What can I say... I'm a sucker when it comes to SW... I like it ALL, just to varying degrees...
I guess I should consider myself lucky!
    Another side note:
And as a first generation fan who has been there from the very beginning, I will also defend the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy... I honestly prefer these versions... 95% of the changes are excellent, and I can live with the 5% that I personally might not have changed... It doesn't ruin my experience and love for the films in the slightest... For the most part, I love what Lucas did with them.. What a special gift he gave us with those updated versions... I don't miss the original versions at all.
    One last side note:
I've had the great privilege of seeing (and in a few cases, meeting) many STAR WARS legends over the past years: George Lucas. Gary Kurtz, Irvin Kershner, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mathew, David Prowse, Billy Dee Williams, Ian McDiarmid, Hayden Christensen, John Williams, Ralph McQuarrie, Dennis Muren, Ben Burtt, and many other cast and crew members... The three biggest events that I was fortunate enough to attend were the 10th anniversary Star Wars Convention in Los Angeles (1987), the 35th anniversary Star Wars Celebration in Orlando (2012), and the 40th anniversary Star Wars Celebration in Orlando (2017)... Some of the happiest and most thrilling experiences of my life that I will always cherish and never forget..
    To sum up:
Thank you so much, George Lucas, for taking me to your galaxy far, far away... Words can never express the utter joy and happiness that your 6 STAR WARS films have given me.., and continue to give me to this very day... And in particular, thank you so much for that life-altering experience that you gave me when I walked into that movie theatre in the summer of 1977 to see "that far-out space movie", aka: THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE! ...It's odd to think a that a mere movie could have that kind of power to change one's life in such a profoundly positive way... but I'm proof that one can.
P.S. Just think, things could have gone VERY DIFFERENTLY and HORRIBLY WRONG that day if I had instead gone to see some "awful piece of dreck" that was also playing in theatres at that same time... like Tentacles ("Yikes!")... or Viva Knievel ("Ouch!")
I HOPE THAT MY LIFE EXPERIENCE STORIES ABOUT SW HAVE HELPED YOU RE-EVALUATE YOURS...
WE CAN ALL AGREE OR DISAGREE ON WHAT IS GOOD STAR WARS AND WHAT IS BAD STAR WARS...
THAT'S FINE... BUT NEVER STOP LOVING IT... WHAT A DEPRESSING THOUGHT!
THAT 10 YEAR OLD KID WHO WALKED OUT OF THAT MOVIE THEATRE IN 1977 WOULD NEVER EVER WANT TO HEAR ANYONE EVER SAY THAT!
JUST EMBRACE WHAT YOU LOVE... AND IGNORE WHAT YOU DON'T... BUT NEVER STOP LOVING IT!
GEORGE LUCAS' GIFT TO THE WORLD IS TOO SPECIAL TO DO THAT!
EMBRACE IT... CHERISH IT... TAKE JOY IN IT... PASS IT ON TO OTHERS... AND NEVER LET IT DIE...

I'm just realy sad and angry that Disney listend to all the angry fans while making The Rise of Skywalker. I loved The Last Jedi (and still do), but so many people hated it causing Disney to panic, scrapping all there plans for a logical sequel and replacing it with a mess of a movie that will 'please' all the angry fans. I always thought that the sequel trilogy would be the same as the prequels in the sense that they were hated at first, but grew on people after some time, but now they ruined it. They tried to please fans, but as a filmmaker this is something you should NEVER do, in the first place you should always make the movie you want to make/ that you think will be good. Fans will never be satisfied because there expectations are just to high, but give them time and they will appreciate it afterwards. But now, Disney and J.J. Abrams have made a trilogy without a proper, thought out story. I think fans would still appreciate a propper sequel to TLJ more then a weak course correction that just shuves fan service down your throte all the time in the hope that people would like it.
I know that it's just a movie, but it just makes me so sad, to see creative people get scared like that and make a movie that they know is not the one they want to make, but they're just so frightened of there own fanbase that they do it anyway.
They should have just made the movie they wanted to make, that way the fans would probably hated it when it came out, but over time, it'll grow on them.

@@Ixiah27 Well... I guess I agree with you. EP 7 was verry lazy and tried to 'save' Star Wars from the prequels by just copying the originals instead of making someting differant and new, someting that would take Star Wars in a whole new direction.
And because Disney wanted to release these movies in december, they had to be rushed out. But I still think that Rian Johnson did a good job (not perfect) with The Last Jedi.
There is a verry good video on RUclips, I think it's called 'The Anti-Trilogy' that explains verry well how every movie tried to 'fix' the last one. And it also explains how The Last Jedi is the movie that George Lucas would have made, because it turns everything on it's head.
With the prequels, George made Darth Vader, the most feared villain in Sci-fi, a horny teenager and turned Yoda, the wise and calm mentor into a cgi frog on steroids.
At first fans hated it, but over time they grew to love George's dessisions.
And what did Rian Johnson do...? He turned Luke, the forgiving, hopefull hero into a sad, defeated old man.
      What's the difference??
Why can't people, over time realise that this actually was a great way to continue the story??
Yes. These movies needed more time and needed to be planned out from the beginning. But I don't think we can blame Rian Johnson for trying to do something new and doing his best to make a compelling story out of a lazy cashgrab
