Let me use this comment as a conduit for responding to these types of questions I've gotten continuously over the last few years. First - thank you so much for watching and enjoying the videos! I really enjoy making them. A little over two years ago I finished the UF episode, and ran into a myriad of copyright issues pertaining to the Live Aid footage when trying to upload the video. I tried for a long time to reshape the video to get around these copyright issues without affecting the quality of the video (both visually and creatively). After about a year I took a break, just getting too frustrated after seemingly taking all possible pathways to try to get it uploaded (including attempting to contact Bob Geldof). I still intend to upload the UF episode to RUclips one way or another, and I have larger plans for the rest of the series at large. The series is not cancelled in any way, but maybe on hiatus. I will not attempt to predict any timeframe the next episode will be uploaded, because I've been really bad at that in the past and I don't want to set expectations that I don't 100% know that I can hold to. But again, thank you for watching! I still read every comment made on this channel, even today, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words on a hard day.
@@iloveu2431 I can’t wait for the uf video I’ve been watching these videos for so long I love them so much. Maybe try tinting the live aid footage or maybe distorting it or something maybe that would work?
I'm an 80s guy, but i only discovered U2 Boy on cassette in the 1990s. I had already heard their Achtung, Zooropa, and even Pop stuff. Thats what i knew them for so when I heard Boy i was blown away. Best iterations of U2 was the Boy-October-War era IMO.

Excellent video! I’ve been a tremendous fan of U2 for decades and I never knew about Bono’s tirade over his split pants or his throwing Larry’s drum kit into the audience. Interesting little nuggets!
No mention of the band being known as The Hype when they were still a small Dublin band. After they won a competition with an Irish radio host known as Dave Fanning helped give them a helping hand.
@@coldacre Yes, back in September of 1978, Larry Mullen put up an advertisement to start a band. The members that we know now including a member that soon left. Formed in Larry's House and they'd practice their sound for hours. Before doing their early gigs.
I was working in a record store in 1980 and remember unpacking albums from a recent shipment. I opened up a box and found 20 copies of “Boy”, marked them as received later moved them to the floor. I eventually put a copy on the turntable. After it played, I turned to a gal I worked with, looked her in the eye and said “This band is going to be huge.” They became my favorite right then and there.
One of the best bands in the world back when they were just 4 guys playing/singing on stage. Before glitzy spectacle and messianic posturing became more important than music.
Frank Bama messianic?? Messianic posturing is right here in this early footage!. What did Bono say when he ripped his pants: ‘I bought these to be like you’. Here, he is *exactly in the spirit of messiah - cos Messiah bought our death to be like us! He didn’t die his own death - those weren’t his trousers! You might say messiah split his trousers, my trousers, and became a laughing spectacle, naked on a Roman cross because he wants so to identify with humanity! This is *exactly messianic!!
Oscar Jetson Hahahaha I know what you mean . I was there but memories fade . All I know is that 1983 was like my eye opening year for more music . I was 16 / 17 . A major Aerosmith and Who and Stones nut . Then in 83 - I went to 3 very important shows that changed my life for the better . Watched “ The Police “ , “ Bowie “ and “ U2 “. Magical I tell you . I wish I could go back in time and relive those moments . Great Comment by the way . Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
I love that performance of The Electric Co where Bono has his "tirade" - it felt very punk. I never knew the date/location of that performance, let alone the reason for what he said. Now that I know the reason, what was the date and/or location?
Very interesting and it really took me back to the early 80s when I first experienced their music and really loved their whole vibe. That continued for me well into the early 2000s...and I realize Bono is trying to help people, etc...but I can't get past the political grandstanding (as I see it), although I know that tons of fans love him/them because of it. For me, it was always about the music, and the joy I still feel when I listen to that first album really gets to me every time. A truly great group whose sum total, much like The Beatles, far outweighs their individual parts. They were just meant to be together and create their music.
QShookMeAllNightLong What year ?? My first time seeing U2 was in 83 . What an awesome time to be a fan . That year / I was 16/17 years old . Was a huge Aerosmith fan and Who and Stones nut - Then I saw U2 and my life changed . Same year I saw the Police and Bowie . Magical !!! Miss and cherish those days . Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
Un disco maduro para ser hecho por chicos de veinte años , tiene ese sonido post punk (que se extendio hasta war ) que me encanta , aun suena fresco a casi cuarenta años de ser lanzado .
I kinda thought they were 'new wave' back then. Heard a few songs, mostly due to MTV. But one day on the radio, the DJ was gushing about a fresh new band, and the opening drums of 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' came on, and I was like OMG, WHO IS THIS???? Been an avid U2 fan ever since.
trsidn ya during sunday bloody sunday theyve already change and establised their sound no wondder on their first album they sounded like new wave also because new wave was born in europe and during those years new wave is so popular
I personally don’t think they sounded like that. I felt they lacked the cheesiness of many new wave songs, which to me is where U2 separates its self from that genre.

Boy is an incredible album; it might be my favourite u2 record
They knew full well how big they'd become I think. Electric Co has always made Bono a little, angry; which is good. Great video.
Great job. Way to go. Keep those coming.
Mr. J I’m with U !!
This was pure awesomeness and I look forward to watching more.
Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
This was an excellent time capsule look into the very early years. Lots of great info and images. I love U2 too.
Peter Yianilos So Good !!
This brought back so many great memories ❤️
Happy 2020 2 U
Cowboy C Bop Wishing you a great 2020 as well. Last year was full of pain and I’m moving forward.
Stay positive ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
Reach out anytime.
As I know all about pain .
I will keep you in my prayers 🙏🙏
These are wonderful!
After they won a competition with an Irish radio host known as Dave Fanning helped give them a helping hand.
no mention of their original name "Feedback" or that they played their first couple of gigs as a 5-piece band.
Mark Teixeira That is Such a Great Memory 🤠
Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
Cowboy C Bop Thank you 😊. Happy 2020 to U2 😆
Just found your channel. Tremendous.
Great great band..especially the earlier years
Well done
I only like U2.... but this kind of quality fandom is super endearing. Subscribed.
Michael McDonald One of my favorite words “ endearing “.
Does not get used often .
Very Underrated.
Awesome Comment !!!
Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
Great job mate!
Good work, man.
Amazing!
Erick Liberty Agreed 💯 % !!
Happy 2020 2 U ❤️🤠🔪🎵🙏
U2 1978-1987 were the best. kinda lost me after that but those early years were truly magical times for all involved
The lyrics on the screen are wrong on Out Of Control. He actually sings “they were so glad” not “it was so bad” . 05:58 in the video.
That’s what I thought
Hahahahaha ❤️
Happy 2020 2 U
Nice summary! Man, I wish I could go back to the early 80's... I would have paid more attention!
Oscar Jetson Hahahaha
I know what you mean .
Great job on this video!
Great, thank you ☺️
40 years today !!!
I love that performance of The Electric Co where Bono has his "tirade" - it felt very punk. I never knew the date/location of that performance, let alone the reason for what he said. Now that I know the reason, what was the date and/or location?
I think it was 1980
@@dirtyrottensinnermusic3212 London methinks.
Bono is Human after all ❤️😱🎤🎵
Happy 2020 2 U All 🤠
I’ve always loved the live performances of Electric Co. An all time live U2 classic. It’s been on a good chunk of their best live shows.
Hey! Nice job man! This was great!
still waiting on the unforgettable fire video!!!!!!!
Love this album
The only girl on a Caribbean island who loved U2 in ridiculous fashion. 🤣😂 Fun days.
I will follow is my favorite. First concert was U2 at The Paradise in Boston
This was one of the best bands in the world at one time.... they lost me after Unforgettable Fire.
Steve Lillywhite was also the producer for Big Country
God bless U2 forever and ever
Best seller!
Boy è uno dei più grandi dischi d'esordio di tutti i tempi
This is really well done..
Rob Ducharme Yes ❤️🤠🎵
Happy 2020 2 U !!
FANTASTIC!
Brian Folks Agreed ❤️❤️
Happy 2020 2 U
Awesome video
This is awesome!!❤️❤️🤟🏻
Early U2 kicks so much arse!
Need more. Please
"You can smile...like Trevor..."
they sounded new wave during their younger days
Banda legendaria ...U2 .. inmortales.. futuro 2028 ..Atte : Kevin Idol Sifuentes Andrade..Trujillo _ Perú .
I think they're going to be really big.
Jon Hohensee Hahahahahaha
