I think you should have mentioned unique countries (with national ideas) that you could carry on over ck2, hashashins, knights templar, jomsvikings, israel. Playing with them is enjoyable.

@@AlzaboHD Well, think about it, it's a region where cores and provinces come and go and where nobody has a clear supremacy or a fort to speak of. If the status quo changes, the repercussions are enormous in terms of who owns what and who stays alive in the first place.
Also, with all that fragmentation, if the AI is anything less than god-like, then it's easy to lose to rebels and amplify the messines of the whole thing.
Situations like these only end once a big power comes and conquers the land, in this case either the Mamluks or Ethiopia.

When I came to the region it just existed so I crushed it without knowing, until now, of its unicornity. Kinda feel bad. (I say "I think" because I do not have a save to check. Darfour was in the media a lot a decade ago for all the wrong reasons so I noticed. I cannot completely rule out that it was some other nowadays well known region I'm confusing it with, but wouldn't know which one that could be. It is hard to achieve, but it is possible to play as that nation.
There is a guide on how to do it on Reddit, just google and you will find it. I followed it and I could spawn the rebels, but without cheating to increase unrest it can take very, very long for them to fire, as it is hard to trigger these rebels.

I am actually playing a Poland run right now where Kalmyk appeared. Currently I formed the Commonwealth and the game is passed 1600. Idk what happened but suddenly I looked over that region and Kalmyk was there and as a Muscovite vassal. Muscovy owned that area for a while but I've been crushing them causing horrible rebels in their land after each war. I'm not sure if that may of helped cause Kalmyk rebels to spawn. But anyway Muscovy either diplo or militarily vassalized them. They will eventually be eaten by me, but still really cool they appeared and are existing in my game at the moment.

Well I have seen Sapmi appear (I supported rebels) but I have also played them. I'll say how I did it.
Start as Novgorod and lower autonomy in Kola. If the muscovites attack just give them the provinces they want. You can also develop a lot on Kola too (I had 30 development in like 1455) then let the rebels occupy Kola and then kill them. Sell all provinces you can but Kola and spam loans and go into bankruptcy. Release Sapmi as a vassal get support from the muscovites and declare independence.

There are also some nations that are not well known. For example a couple of the hordes are very obscure in themselves, but the one that takes the cake for this is Chahar.
They're in a similar situation to Malta, they're the primary nation of their culture. But the problem is that there is already a nation with Chahar primary culture, which is Korchin.
Since Korchin has Chahar as their primary culture, their cores on their provinces last for 150 years. They're in Manchuria as well, this means they swap provinces with other nations quite alot, and seeing as how rebellions increase years of separatism, this means they never lose their cores.
By the time, Korchins cores do expire, which is the 1700s, someone up there has consolidated themselves enough, and put down any rebellions.
In my 2200 hours on EU4, I've never seen them become independent.

Some countries could have gotten honorable mentions here:
Americas: Texas, Venezuela, Chile, United Central America, Paraguay. They all suffer from the same issue as Canada/Québec namely that the AI will form Mexico, Colombia and La Plata is the majority of cases instead of those more minor tags.
Africa: Segu (primary tag of Bambara culture), Geledi (Somali tag that is no the primary tag of the culture) and Jima (primary tag of the Oromo culture that doesn't exist in 1444 on the map) are pretty obscure as well.
Mongolia: Zhungar, Khalka and Chahar are primary tags of the Oirat, Khalka and Chahar cultures respectively. You get separatists to appear if you remove cores of Oirats and Mongolia there (same principle as Sapmi in Scandinavia). A special mention for Khoshuud ("Mongolian Tibet) there, because it's not a primary tag of the Oirat culture. It's like an Etruria+++ as you have to create a Zhungar core in the first place, change the primary culture of Zhungar, and then Khoshuud separatist should appear in the former Sariq Yogir province (where you should change the culture to remove the Sariq Yogir core, and then revert back to Oirat).
Indonesia: Aceh (primary tag of Sumatran culture), and more especially Demak, Banten, Banjar, Cirebon and Mataram who are Javan tags but not primary ones are quite difficult to get to appear.
Indochina: same thing for Vientiane and Champasak, two laotian tags that you very rarely get to see because the primary tag of the culture is Luang Prabang.

As wikipedian, Etruria is the ironic part. The bibliography state the reference from _"Vanished Kingdom: History of Half-Forgotten Europe"_

I have 2143 hours and I've seen Sapmi many times, Malta like 3 times late game, Quebec like 4 times I'd say, I've seen Darfur once or twice, I've seen Sokoto once or twice.
I have never seen Kalmyk, Messien, and Etruria.
I might have seen Lanfang 1 time.
