Z0mbicore No, it was founded by the Patriarch of Rome in 1035 AD due to the Great Schism. The Orthodox Church has a much more legitimate claim to the Apostolic Succession than the Roman Catholic one. St. Peter was never the Pope.
lutin grognon The thing is though that Catholicism as we know it is a complete fabrication. They committed the sin of adding to Christianity (that is VERY BAD, considering what it says in Revelations on that matter). While I would agree that there is a lot of strange fundamentalism in Protestantism, and the terrible habit of just creating new "brands" of Christianity whenever a small dispute arises, I myself am in fact an Irish Presbyterian. We largely have stood up to the homosexuals and feminists, denouncing them as heathens who love only themselves, and refusing to bow to our dodgy government's "Equalities Commission". But ultimately, I agree. I was just saying that the RC Church was not founded by either Christ or Saint Peter. I believe that all of our churches should work towards reunification of Christ's body, something only achievable through Christ and the Holy Spirit. Interestingly enough, I have heard a convincing argument for Tradition (different from custom). It basically goes along the lines of "St. Paul writes in one of his epistles to [someone, can't remember which one] 'as Christ always said, "it is better to give than to receive"', but that isn't recorded in any of the Gospels. It must have been passed down orally, i.e. Tradition." Honestly, the church needed a reformation since it had been so corrupted with wealth and power, however as I recall neither Luther not Calvin intended to create different denominations, but rather to restore the Catholic church to its proper state. Either way, we're here now and its our mess. We have to deal with it (with God's help).
In my last play through as England the reformation never really took off. Only one or two German states converted and they got squashed soon after by their Catholic neighbours
I love your videos. They are so professionally done. You should do a video about limiting Ming's Mandate with a focus on doing it as Manchu to form Qing. For me it's been very difficult to destroy Ming's powerbase even as a great European power, and I would love to see your approach to this mechanic.
Max Breiling A good strat is to become a tributary and conquer all the other tribes that border him to the north. You then wait until he enacts one of the weird imperial reform things so that he has low mandate, and then you cancel your tributary status. He will get a modifier for an unprotected northern border that will cause his mandate change to be negative, so he will be stuck at zero. Then his troops and his entire country are terrible, so you attack.
Max Breiling Yeah. I'm currently doing this in my Uzbek game, in which I have eaten Nogai, Kazan (although the province Kazan was lost to the Muscovites before I could take it), half of Timmy (Persia escaped, so I immediately got down to killing him. It's really annoying though because he has more than 30k pretender rebels, even in his weakened state), most of Chagatai and a small portion of Oirat. Ming just randomly asked me to become his tributary so I said "Sure, why not?" to myself. I am finally able to expand further eastward, as I was previously blocked by Ming tributarising Oirat while I was in the first Oirat war. I plan to push hard eastward to try to get feudalism (it is only 1520 or something like that, so I still don't have it, although it recently entered my country from Persia). Hordes are really fun if you know how to use them. The 100% cav that comes with Tengri hordes and that can be accessible to Sunni hordes with the cavalry armies age bonus is so good. Gone are the days of worrying about insufficient support (or building more than one type of unit, for that matter) ;).
Regardless of the nation you're playing as, causing devastation (and removing prosperity) is the easiest way to reduce mandate growth. If just passed a reform and is at 30 mandate and climbing, Scorching Earth in as many states as possible will undo any prosperity and add huge amounts of devastation that will last years. Looting and occupying a province also adds deviation. Any state with deviation will lose prosperity too. Focus on high-development provinces, especially those outside of fort zone of control (though, if you occupy the fort, it's fine). The next easiest way to reduce mandate growth is to occupy (or conquer) Beijing, Nanjing, and Canton. Forcing them to take loans is also a major blow, so when you peace out, taking tons of money will ruin them more. And finally, declaring on a tributary that they won't defend will give a one-time -10 mandate.
Still the best guide on how to crush the reformation. Simple, no Alt-F4 cheese like Red Hawk, no histrionics like Ludi, no self-aggrandizement like Budgetmonk. Just how to get 'er done.

I'm not entirely sure if a pun works when the part of the word you're using for the pun comes directly from the other word you're using for the pun. Protestant literally comes from the word 'protest' with a suffix on it. Maybe it does and you should just ignore me.
Seiban No, the suffix indicates a similar(-ish) thing as "-ing". It is the French equivalent of "-ing", so the denomination (not religion) is sort of called "protesting" (against the corruption of the Church).

Unbelieavable that I got a Reformed Center in Paris as France, and in the same game Castille didn't take the Iberian Wedding, nor did England raped the Scotts, nor did Portugal or Castille set a foot in the New World until around 1550. One of the weirdest games ever, and, Sweden got to put the same dinasty in my throne, but I got to P.U them.
I got a problem: I jump on the first center I see but for whatever reason there is no way to enforce religion in the peace deal and if I take the province to converte it myself it still has the -100% missionary modifyer even though it's a center of reformation :/
The presentation was superb, your explanations were concise and made for an enjoyable listen. On my Brandenburg play through so the reformation is right around the corner for me. If your open for multiplayer sometime I'd like to try it out
One thing to note: if you crush a center of reformation, it'll pop right back up in the next nation that converts to that faith, so it's extremely difficult to "indefinitely" crush the reformation before the age of absolutism. When that age hits, the centers are disabled automatically.
Lol its funny when playing as Ottomans, capture Constantinople and then convert yourself to Orthodoxy. 'oops i'm literally just the Byzantine Empire now.'
Hey Reman! Today I noticed that if Protestant and Reformed spawn outside of Germany, the German states are less likely to pick it unless they got converted by a center and are not a theocracy. Basically, in my Austria campaign - Protestantism spawned in Poland (Memmingen and Ferrara converted to it but I eradicated them) and almost no German states converted to it. Same with Reformed which spawned in Portugal. Basically, if those spawn outside the Empire - you're way safer than if it spawns inside.
Hey Reman, I have a tip for you in your next iteration of a video like this. The part where you take bases around problem areas is unnecessary if you are fast! The Transfer Subject splendor reward allows claims on claims. Which means in the first 5 years of the reformation you can claim the provinces that are flipping religions! So the bases you're talking about should actually be massive amounts of claims - I'd make a spiderweb of claim paths if possible so you're always within a few provinces... but yeah, in the time it takes to make 1 claim you can claim a province around 4 provinces away if you're using 4 diplomats for this. If this fails to control religions within 5 years, you still have 25 years on your latest claims and can use that to make bases that are closer avoiding no cb wars. Claims on Claims is OP and you should make a video about exploiting it.
In my Austria run, I forced Switzerland to change religion 3 times, just to see how they switched back to Reformed in less than year later... It was frustrating, because I had a truce with them and they were the only country to have Reformed religion. But still they always switched back from Catholic.
Idk if they changed it, but the centers of reformation that are spawning in non capital provinces also have the religious zeal penalty, so conquering and converting them is impossible
