      1. Release Mann as a subject.
      2. Go to war with someone who owns 2+ forts.
      3. Take the forts, give them to Mann
      4. Pay off debt constantly until Mann has -1000% liberty desire
      5. Grant all your land to Mann, then take it back (make sure they have cores).
      6. Integrate Mann

      I d rather avoid lowering development and autonomy as much as possible by demanding man power from nobles and taking mercs. + I believe it will be more worth to take and release Scotland iirc it allows you avoid "force vasalization" penalty. Plus, ofc need to make allies and improve other subject opinion before taking France and Scotland.

      +Cosmic Chronos Please (!) don't take that as an insult, but you seem to not be that experienced with the game.
      Everthing about your statement is wrong. Scotland is no real issue, you can easily white peace them and come back later. WITHOUT having to screw up your country long-term by flushing monarch points down thee drain through exploiting dev. You get a free CB and claims on them anyway, "worst" thing they can do is develop their provinces for you, lol.
      And WHO CARES about you having favors with BUR/ ARG when you can simply PU France?? How should these both then stop you from expanding? You just simply break alliance and ally somebody else that wants them dead. Scotland will be easy to invade, nobody can defend their land.
      The raising autonomy might be okay. Might. It will go away. But there is no point in perma-weakening your country just to make it stronger a bit faster. It's so illogical. It's just not worth it.

    • @cosmobilling9699
      @cosmobilling9699 6 лет назад +2

      @@SkyForceOne2 lol you're right, I'm not that good (600 hours) and I definitely see your point, you're wasting resources to gain ~10-20 years, but that's what makes it a valid strategy. I suppose different tactics depend on different playstyles. I really see the short term benefits of this strategy, whilst overlooking the long term cons of it... But I think that's sort of how I play the game... I'm glad you pointed out the cons more clearly, since I would just have waved off the cons of the strategy otherwise xD

    • @SkyForceOne2
      @SkyForceOne2 6 лет назад +5

      +Cosmic Chronos
      EU4 isnt really that difficult imo, the bad part just is that you have to know how to abuse it's weird mechanics for workarounds.
      I mean, I'm the type of player that always greeds for lategame, makes the initial challenge more fun for me. Might be the reason I hate that approach so much.
      But the thing I did not point out that good is: Annexing Scotland early on might not even be that much of a boost for you, since you weakened your country in the first place. So it might not even grant you an advantage, especially when considering you PU'ing France, they will never get loyal if you also have Scotland (and on top Normandy etc what Arumba did there) under you. So it might even slow you down.
      But yeah, play as you like, obviously. Be prepared tho, that if you click that exploit dev button, I'll come haunt your savegame in agony and despair! :D

    I'm a serious England player (blame the anglophilia) and I disagree with this opening.
    War of the Roses event is not necessarily a bad event. It is the quickest and sure fire way to get rid of Henry VI. When you complete it, it gives a whopping 50 prestige. With that prestige bonus, I try and get the 'Faceting' event in Caux (which is why I would recommend NOT releasing normandy) which gives you an enormous pile of cash and makes your home node rich as hell. Not only that, either the Lancaster or York candidate is usually a very good ruler with atleast 10 monarch points. In fact if you get an heir, it's better to get rid of them otherwise you'll be stuck with a 0/0/0 for another about 10 years depending on how lucky you are and have him die, but even then that doesn't stop the event from firing the next time around.
    My strat has always been to get the event to fire ASAP, don't stab up or anything, just wait. If you can get Burgundy to ally you, then go to war immediately on the surrender of Maine and just let England burn. They're only pretenders, your country won't collapse. Be sure to check the rebel demands - sometimes it's a really good ruler true and you can let them win. If not, and you get a sick ruler from the event, try to atleast get some money out of France and annul treaties with Scotland. Beat them the next time with your lead in monarch point gain.
    Another important thing is to not complete the mission which gives you the force union CB on France until after the 2nd war, when you've taken a few provinces from them. This is to let your AE cool off and also gives less of an AE impact when you do force the union as France has less development.

    • @trueblueclue
      @trueblueclue 4 года назад +1

      I'm relatively new so Idk about fast moving strategies like this one but I tried to let the War of the Roses fire off on my recent run. Best decision I ever made. I took the opportunity to create a vassal in Ireland to feed him provinces and used one of Scotland's allies as a proxy to take Scotland's money, the Norwegian Isles and trade early on. All the arguin while RoW fired and I let the rebels defend my territory during the war. I also let Irish minors consolidate so I can vassal feed them later. It's definitely an interesting country to play as so far. I just have trouble building up manpower for the subjugation CB. I always avoid the Maine event as I'm scared of France's generals but I'll try to use it next time to get the strategic control mission asap.

    • @Jrock420blam
      @Jrock420blam 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah this has a very slim reliance on RNG compared to the other methods like allying with Aragon or Burgundy and calling them into the war with France which can take dozens of restarts. So long as you don't rival Burgundy in this you can do it. Though I would take a loan for some mercs rather than trashing your land for manpower and crushing your force limit.

    • @TheBrothergreen
      @TheBrothergreen 6 лет назад +2

      @Hazzycakes Plus, he even addressed the off-case where you can't get access through burgundy. Having seen the video, you could probably do some improve relations without issues. He ignores diplomacy for the sake of brevity. You can also just snag military access and come in from the north. Might cost you 50 monarch points if you go over the relations cap and have to keep it for a couple months, but who cares?

    So heres a small correction guide because of updates and such:
    - Dont rival Scotland right off the bat or they will set up their fort again.
    - You dont need to give any states to the clergy, and you dont need to exploit all the provinces.
    - You should put a couple of ships in the North sea if the livonian order allies scotland. They have 6 galleys and 2 light ships so theyre pretty easy to kill. Though its harder to win that than if scotland only allies france.
    - You shouldnt complete the goal that gives you a claim on scotland until youre right on the border so they cant reinforce their forts before your troops come in.
    - You can sell your ships to the netherlands for 53 gold and 47 to Utrecht to maximize your gains.

    • @DaeLh
      @DaeLh 5 лет назад

      @MikeProductions1000 PU doesn''t take vassals into account on relative strenght, only their own strenght versus their overlord. So annexing Scotland would do nothing more than give you some more troops/development. If you can't keep subjects under control even with all the options to lower Liberty Desire, you really need to read up on the basics of the game. I've gotten France into this PU several times and never have they rebelled against me.

    The surrender of Maine is a god send of an event, France doesn't have Elan! at the beginning so his troops are actually worse than yours . Love your videos Arumba - long time fan. I have played England on this patch a bunch of times and find a different opener cements English dominance of the continent early on.
    If you make alliances with Spain and Austria they will support you in wars vs France and Burgundy. You don’t need to levy the troops early on for the mission, instead focus on dismantling Brittany and connecting Calais to your other European holdings from Burgundy.
    France isn’t going to attack you for fear of a war on 3 fronts (North, East and South). With enough time you earn favours from those guys to beat the shit out of France when you try to PU Scotland.
    If you use your diplomats wisely you aren’t going to get a coalition forming against you except the Irish states which you mercilessly subsume into the greater English lands. With another war vs burgundy and Brittany respectively, most of the Irish in check and powerful ally’s - France doesn’t stand a chance in an assault. 2 wars later you have your PU - GG.
    Now you can stab Portugal and Spain in the back for their colonial and Iberian holdings.

    Does not seem to work any more, or maybe I got unlucky. First of all Scotland never mothballed their fort, which slows this down but does not necessarily kill the strategy. The big thing is that France now always seems to defend their capital with all of their troops (28k in my game) and Scotland picked up a mainland Europe ally which prevented me from reaching 100 war score against them without going and sieging down a whole other country.

      Agreed: First you can t spend papal influence to get curia influence anymore as you don t have a cardinal. Then you spend lots a precious manpower on the scotish forts that are not mothballed+ you can t get noble manpower interaction as you are parlementary by default. Finally france doesn t systematically offer white peace when you get paris. I m sure a good player as arumba could still make this work without problems but its not easy for a noob like me.

      Same happened to me every time I tried it. Playing on Dharma, the AI got sneaky. It too got access through Burgundy and my first attempt at taking Paris ended when the French outflanked me by marching through Burgundian territories in the South and attacking from Troyes and Valois with about 38k troops. Lost the battle and was forced to flee south. The zones of control from the French forts made escape impossible and the entire army ended being stack wiped in central France. Attempt number two did not even make it to Paris. The French doom stack was waiting for me in Artois the moment the army hit the beaches at Calais. Tried to salvage the situation by sending Henry on a suicide mission, but alas he survived. Ended up trading vassals in the peace deal, Normandy and Gascony for Scotland. Not a bad option if you want to play a "Historical" England/Britain game. Releasing the subjects is a much better than simply giving the land to France in a peace deal.

    Great video! I'll definitely try this. In case it's useful to anyone else, here's a summary of the steps described in the video:
    While still paused at game start:
    1) Use estate to get papal influence, spend on pope votes to get 100%
    2) Demand admin points + make generous donation
    3) Boost stab
    4) Sell 3 heavies (Britrany, Flanders, Holland)
    5) Release Normandy and Gascony
    6) Grant Normandy Alencon, Maine, and Calais
    7) Enable Scutage on your new subjects
    8) Send navy to hunt enemy fleets in NA
    9) Send rightmost army with general to Cumbria
    10) Exploit manpower of every province
    11) Grant Sussex to Clergy, then raise its autonomy
    12) Grant Shrewsbury, Derby, and York to Clergy
    13) Grant monopoly charters to Burghers
    14) Accept completion of levy mission
    15) Rival Scotland, France, and someone other than Burgundy or Denmark (i.e. Aragon).
    Unpause
    17) RM your subjects and Portugal
    18) When you get the "End of Hundred Years War" popup, take the option that avoids war and grants +1 stab
    19) Accept completion of the "Hundred Years War" mission
    20) On Dec 11th 1444, DOW Scotland using Subjugation CB
    21) Once Scotland is fully occupied (but before ending war), land your entire army in Calais, then get military access from Burgundy
    22) March into Reims and then into Paris. Keep the whole army on Paris until it's sieged out.
    23) Accept completion of the "Strategic Control" mission
    24) White peace France
    25) Vassalize Scotland
    26) DOW Brittany, fully annex, then give land to Normandy
    27) In 5 years, use the Force Union CB on France
    28) GG

      Most importantly take Paris and let the warscore tick, try making picks on smaller armies to thin him out. You don't stand a Chance vs The 2 big stacks with their huge generals. If you can ally either aragon or spain you can promise them Land that you won't give them, sometimes they still can't be called to arms. Burgundy always can be promised but often Rivals you. Abuse terrain if possible, especially in The Mountains in The south (German: Pyrenäen, don't know the English name). Without taking scotland first it's alot of reloading. Maybe the additional vasalarmies will help.
      And ditch Portugal as an ally asap. They offer nothing and Cost a diploslot. Yes. It's nice to Royal mariage them. But just do that with aragon, spain, burgundy, whoever you get and you should be fine. Btw. If you try to ally spain and Aragon. Aragon will ditch cause they re always rivaling spain. And it feels like Aragon more often accepts The call to Arms. Also spy on france for faster siege. Also without provinces in france they Ll try crossing The English channel. Ppl die in These boats. That s about all i can remember atm.

      The other fact that Arumba has shown in his Timurids opener video, if you are at war no vassal can declare independence or seek support for it. As long as you have a war lined up before the truce is up, you can take the entire war to chip away at the liberty desire and get them in order.

    I found stacking your military in Caen and waiting for the Surrender of Maine works just as well. France invariably marches a 15k stack into Alencon that was drilling the month before, so you can get a guaranteed stackwipe on 15k. Another 15k France stack will go south to siege Labourd. So all you have to do is repeatedly stackwipe the rebuilding French army+his allies in the north while sieging Paris. It's not a hard war, even doing it alone. Just use like 2 loans, mercs before the war, and consolidation.

    Consider the following. Get levy the troops asap and protect your mainland provinces as demonstrated in the video (or just delete your forts and eat the war exhaustion when France occupies them.), get surrender of maine and declare on france as a result. While fighting france, dow scotland with subjugation CB. France is easy to keep out of your island before you're ready to slaughter his troops or island trap them on ireland. Furthermore, the more time passes while you're "fighting" france, the less likely his allies are to stick around. You can effectively keep the war with France on hold while you bypass his guarantee of Scotland. Furthermore, you don't need to trucebreak France.

    I tried to do that, but Scotland always mobilize the fort once I get the casus belli. I end beaten in the sea by the Scottish Navy and beaten in land by Scottish + Irish + Livonian forces with no hope of winning...

    Just the papal thing doesn't work because you give up your cardinal by giving away the french provinces, but in other scenarios a good idea.

  • @mikesnow285
    @mikesnow285 4 года назад

    I highly would recommended to improve relations with Gascony and Normandy so they are loyal after the war with the free diplomats and also improve with the papal states to avoid excommunication and try to get a big nation like Castile or Aragon for later. Later you will have 3 Vassals with 1 free slot after you dissolve with Portugal so someone like Aragon and Castile will help a lot, that will take you to 4 slots and later France will put you one over but you get a extra relationship slot from English Ideas which you will lose when you form Great Britain but that will instantly inherit Scotland so there's no problem with relation slots like I've seen people say in chat.
    Sounds like a odd thing to do but after the war start improving relations with France to 100 of the max improved relations so when you PU them later you already have 100 and then you can further improve it to the 200 of max improved relations to help with their liberty desire.
    You don't need to give land to the clergy but give Gloucester, York and Lincolnshire to the burghers because they are trade centers and de-develop all the lands of your Gascony and Normandy for manpower before you make them vassals and English provinces but don't put any below 10 or 20 development and hire one mercenary and that will give you the mission, you can also disband the mercenary after you get the mission and follow the rest of the guide as usual.
    Don't disband or sell your ships, you will need if Scotland gets allies and will need for later. I would honestly suggest getting 5 for free with the burghers using the government reform for burgher loyalty because it saves you 250 gold to improve your fleet strength that will also later help with attacking Norway/Denmark for Greenland and the Faroes.
    Always get at least exploration as the first idea because taking Greenland and getting a colonial range advisor which is available after your first +1 colonist idea is took you can reach America with tech 7 also but later you could get influence for integrating France and your vassals and to help with trying to become Emperor which will also probably need the diplomacy idea that will be a lot later after reformation and you want the HRE Protestant. Quality or Quantity could be picked before then, I tend to go for Quality and work around having less manpower because a lot later Quality will be more useful than manpower.
    I would suggest flipping to Protestant as soon as the first Religious Center forms, become Defender of the Faith and use the extra missionary to quickly convert your lands. A good tip also is that you can force religion on a vassal and convert their lands for them.

    Funky way to start, but honestly, I just rerolled untill Burgundy is not a rival (when not rivalled to me he has so far always been autorivalled to france). With only Burgundy you'll already beat France as long as the guy doesn't get too many allies untill the maine event fires. Sometimes you get really lucky and you can get both Burgundy and Castille/Aragon (all three has so far never happened to me but is theoretically possible).
    What you do is just fight France and not care about Scotland yet. By the time you wear France down (it does take a while) you might be able to already pick either your first age bonus or get curia controller to lower AE enough not to eat a coalition by subjugating France. If this is not possible for you, sign the peace deal late december, the januari tick should still get you under 50 AE and prevent the coalition.
    Afterwards just let AE tick down, fix your relations with France so you don't lose the union the moment your king dies, and recuperate towards the force limit mission. Then Vassalize Scotland. Then steal Holland and Brabant from Burgundy and Vassalizing/Conquer Brittany and conquer Ireland. Just be carefull on your AE and take your time, you'll still be a ridiculous powerhouse way before any other powerhouse even taking your time. You might even steal Norway from Denmark for giggles.

    • @bastange8856
      @bastange8856 6 лет назад

      P.S. I only go after Scotland when he's done annexing the Isles. And I cycle my wars between the Irish Minors and the European mainland to help limit AE. Always have a Diplomat for improved relations. If you're going to get Castille involved into the war against France, start the game by fabricating on Nevarra. Usually Nevarra's only ally ends up being Castille and you can snatch it during your war with France. It can become very valuable if you plan to dismantle Castille/Spain later on as it's a pretty awesome Fort location. Do mind that it will make it trickier to subjugate France without triggering a coalition.

      @ddfb494355 6 лет назад

      A lot of tutorials are still viable. What muddies the water is what DLC's you have and what changes are made in the patches. Vanilla EU4 is not too bad to learn on it's own, but it's pretty poor gameplay when you see what improvements are behind DLC.
      This video for instance uses several mechanics from different DLC's; Estates, Transfer land to subjects, exploiting manpower, and of course the many English involved mechanics from Rule Britannia. But hey if you have all the DLC then this is just a ramble, the game is still great mind you so just play learning how to get around sticky situations yourself is a lot of the fun!
