Yet back-in-the-day it was seen by many Trash-Metal fans as Selling-Out..... yet today it is like just so Classic and Timeless as we appreciate Power-Ballads today. Hearing Ray notice the nude pin-up small poster on the mic-stand ...had me realize that MTV because of it would only show this video late-hours... in 92 when it came out.

@@davidw7 That can be said for literally ANYTHING... Criticism will always exist no matter how good you are at something. The thing here is that people naturally mature over the span of 30 years and start to appreciate or at least respect the things they used to criticize. Also new audiences introduced to Metallica as a band with such importance are less likely to criticize these songs like they used to when the band first started. You are less likely to criticize Mozart today than back when he revolutionized music even if you don't particularly enjoy his work.

@@PatoChu Yes and no. As a boomer I can appreciate more and like to hear varieties of music old and nerwer. Does not mean others my age and older do. I a local setting bar, club like vollenteer firehouse bar. You play metallica with a older bar or just 80s pop 70s pop and many do not appreciate it. Not their speed in a narrower point of view. Similar in politics. Getting older can also have one get more wrapped up in ways that are not open-minded. Narrowing points of view are also there a lot.

Elton John called this the best song he's ever heard. Wow. And Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath Bassist) said "thank God for Metallica". That's epic high praise. My favorite part of this video is when Kirk lifts up the Gibson Les Paul in victory after doing wiring repairs. Fixed it! Lol. If you play guitar you get it. Les Pauls are high end instruments. So of course that means they are high maintenance.

This was a pop ballad hit from 1991... James Hetfield wrote 'Nothing else matters' to his then-girlfriend while he missed her on tour... it was a love song by Metallica and one of the first song he had written that well mellow throughout... They hired classical music composer (the late) Michael Kamen to add strings to the track. Years later in 1999, Michael Kamen conducted a full classical orchestra playing alongside Metallica in a live concert for the 'S&M' record.
This music video was shot for the 1990/ '91 sessions for the 'black' album for the documentary 'A year and half in the life of Metallica'... If the band members look angry in the footage, it's because they were... Metallica spent a year working on the record and could not agree on anything in the studio... the budget ran over 1 million $$$ and the band members were always clashing w/ each other and the producer Bob Rock... The situation became so toxic that it spilled into their personal lives and 3 members (Lars, Kirk & Jason) all got divorced at the end of the sessions... and James had broken up w/ the woman who inspired 'Nothing else matters'... Metallica spent 1991 to 1994 on tour as the 'black' album sold 9 million copies (16 million in the US to date) and was a huge phenomenon worldwide😈

My controversial opinion is James is simply a better guitar player than Kirk. Actually better than a lot of people. @@ganole24I don't think your opinion is controversial at all. I think the Metallica community pretty much unanimously agrees that James is a more talented player. Kirk is just faster with his fingers on the solos. BUT, that doesn't mean Kirk wasn't a fuckin badass in their prime. He contributed a lot of iconic Metallica riffs and till this day I still think his damage inc bridge breakdown riff is the best metallica riff ever. That riff is all kinds of nasty goodness. It's the epitome of thrash metal. That riff turned all the way up on some earbuds still gives me goosebumps. But I think they both have fallen off big time. Even James. 72 seasons is horrible in my opinion. It really is the only Metallica album I can't listen too. It's bad. And that's not Metallica bashing like everyone wants to do these days. I love Metallica, always will. They'll always be my favorite band but I can't defend that album. Hell, I can't pick more good songs off load and reload than that one. James voice is gone. He sounds like screeching tires meets yodel lay he whooooooo

From interviews I've heard/read or whatever, James always likes to keep his lyrics open to interpretation so anyone can enjoy the songs at whatever stage of their life they are in, or however they are feeling. Obviously each song has its own like overarching attitude, but yknow.

Nice Reaction! A few years ago Miley Cyrus put a cover of this song on her album and her Producer wanted the intro to be a piano instead of guitar, so he called Elton John to do it, which he did. Then Metallica was on Howard Stern Show to play the song with Miley and Elton Zoom called in and told the story of being asked to do the intro and said that he thought this was one of the best songs ever written. James wrote this song and was visibly shook hearing someone like Elton John say that about one of his songs. They put the video of it here on YT.

@Rayactions Metallica Band uses distortion pedals, such as the MXR 5150 EVH Signature Overdrive, ProCo RAT, and Ibanez Tube Screamer, to make their guitars sound heavier and more distorted.
Delay pedals, that creates an “echo” effect and a sense of space in their solos.
Reverb pedals, to make their guitars sound more like they’re being played in a large room.
Chorus pedals, to make their guitars sound thicker and more full
I've been playing electric guitars for over 27 years I have most of the guitar pedals they use and back in the 90's I was lucky enough to able to buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom in ebony very similar to Kirk Hammett's Gibson LP Custom in ebony that he uses.

If you haven't seen it, you should check out Geoff Castellucci's group Voiceplay who do a great version of this song. They are an a cappella group, but their beatboxer throws in an instrument for fun. I know you love Geoff's bass vocals.

Since you liked this song, My I recommend VoicePlay's cover of it. They are an Acapella group, but they did a phenomenal job with this one.

This is Metallica's most overrated song and it's really good, but it's one of the reasons they're so well known, I suggest you react to them by playing this song with Miley Cirus on vocals.

You went all introspective on this one…and it perfectly fit the song. I can’t imagine anyone hearing this and not doing the same. It just washes over you and grabs you emotionally and intellectually. Metallica was on Howard Stern’s show, with Elton John in remotely. Elton said right to them, on air, “It’s one of the best f-cking songs ever written.” They all looked like they were gut-punched at that, and James almost lost it. He had a couple tears sneak out even with his best effort to hold it together.
