Jason Newstead was their bassist at the time and he was epic. He was a great bassist and a tremendous addition to their vocals. Also getting 1.6M people to scream "Die" as a backing vocal performance is absolutely insane. Also this was Biblical, so you are correct on that assumption.

They wrote Creeping Death after watching The 10 Commandments with Charleton Heston. Even if you are not Christian, it's a great movie and still holds up very well. The song is about the angel of death shown as a creeping mist that is sent to kill the first born child of the pharaoh. You can also watch The Prince of Egypt, it's an animated musical that covers the same story. With an absolutely amazing soundtrack.
_It is you priests and prophets who made these gods ... that you may prey upon the fears of men ... So let it be written. So let it be done_ . - The Pharaoh Ramses II, as portrayed by Yul Brynner in the film The Ten Commandments.
Not the first born son of the Pharoh. The Angel of Death was sent to kill the first born son of every family in Egypt. The Jews painted a symbol in lamb's blood on their door so the Angel would pass their houses by. It's all there in the lyrics, and the bible.
The song is called "Creeping Death" because that's the name of the 10th plague from Exodus. It's sung from the point of view of the plague itself, as it sweeps through Egypt "killing first-born man", as the lyrics put it.
12:27 I watched millions of metallica reactions and never saw once that someone reacted to jason's vocal part on this song and get excited. it was cool!
@@brianstocks8049 It really is. Imagine coming up with that at 20-21 years old. That song is almost now as twice as old when he wrote it, and it is still spoken of with such great reverence.
Metallica was inspired for the song by the second half of the film The Ten Commandments, which is based on the Bible tale of the Plagues of Egypt. While watching the scene of the final plague killing every Egyptian first-born child, Cliff Burton remarked "Whoa - it's like creeping death", as the plague was represented by a fog rolling into the Pharaoh's palace. The band liked the sound of "creeping death" and decided to write a song about the plagues, with the phrase as its title.

Cliff Burton liked watching the Ten Commandments every year. James was with Cliff watching the movie and Cliff said in a strange voice CREEPING DEATH when the Passover angel came by at night.
This concert was so big and special, because east meets west again near 50 years after WW2. Soviet union was isolated and dealing only own stuff, no outside things. As im from former soviet union country, we also have joke, that MetallicA sang us free lol.
This album was dropped in 1984 and I've been listening to this non-stop this past 2 weeks in 2024, legendary work. I love seeing other people reactions to this organized madness. Full of aggression energy packed into some chords. BTW The song is about the story in Exodus, where God cursed Egypt with the plague for unfairly treatment to the Israelites (400 years of slavery). Some reference from the lyrics-- Land of Goshen, Bush of Fire speaking to Moses, 3 days of darkness, plague, blood in the Nile river, killing the first born of the pharaoh if they dont conform to the passover (foreshadowing lamb that is to come in the new testament, Jesus Christ). Mind-blowing song, the music itself represents the plague of death that is creeping onto the land of the slave masters. Also See the movie Exodus - God and Kings which goes really well with this song
Rachel great job with your reaction and thoughts on the live performance of Creeping Death from Metallic from Moscow Russia in 91 . Yes this song does have to do with things that happened in the Bible.
Creeping Death is referencing the plague famine that was set across Egypt for enslaving the Israelites. You will even hear in James lyrics, which you did catch and reference in the video “let my people go” So the song tells the story of Exodus in heavy metal music. This is one of my favorite Metallica songs! Right next to “Harvester of Sorrow”
Hey girl, that’s actually the second bassist in Metallica, Jason Newstead!! He recorded and Justice for all, the Black album, and two more albums with Metallica before Robert Trujillo took over on death magnetic🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼
Its about the Exodus story in the Bible. You were correct when you said that wasnt Robert. Metallica has had 3 bass players. The first was Cliff Burton who was in the band when this song was written. 2nd was Jason. Who took over after Cliffs tragic death and who you saw in this video. Robert is their current bassist who has been with the band for 20 years now. I grew up with bands like metallica and i love it when i see the younger generations enjoy their music. They were/are one of the greatest bands ever.

Also now that you point out Power Rangers I totally get what you mean, the theme has some similarities and now I have to go listen to it for nostalgias sake!
Cliff Burton liked watching the Ten Commandments every year. James was with Cliff watching the movie and Cliff said in a strange voice CREEPING DEATH when the Passover angel came by at night.
Best song ever
In this moment - the in-between next 🤘
Great reaction! I enjoyed watching this!
This concert was so big and special, because east meets west again near 50 years after WW2. Soviet union was isolated and dealing only own stuff, no outside things.
As im from former soviet union country, we also have joke, that MetallicA sang us free lol.
I've got chicken wings LOL! Creeping Death is an awesome song. This Russia show was a big deal back in the day.
P.S. the bass player was Jason Newsted.
One of my favorite songs by them.
And from my favorite Metallica album.
They wrote it after watching the Ten Commandments. The Moses movie about Exodus
Rachel great job with your reaction and thoughts on the live performance of Creeping Death from Metallic from Moscow Russia in 91 . Yes this song does have to do with things that happened in the Bible.
And to think that this dudes , with the age they have , can still give us an amazing fucking performance !
Creeping Death is referencing the plague famine that was set across Egypt for enslaving the Israelites. You will even hear in James lyrics, which you did catch and reference in the video “let my people go”
So the song tells the story of Exodus in heavy metal music. This is one of my favorite Metallica songs! Right next to “Harvester of Sorrow”
Creeping Death is the wrath of god.
Hey girl, that’s actually the second bassist in Metallica, Jason Newstead!! He recorded and Justice for all, the Black album, and two more albums with Metallica before Robert Trujillo took over on death magnetic🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼
Yeah man you are almost right. But Jason was third bassist. Dont forget Ron
A new baby discovering that James ends his phrase with "AHHH!" 😁💖💕🥰
Jason Newstead is a total Bass Playing God
The footage of pantera with primal concrete sledge, that was 10am, before them the black crows gave the kids everybody must get stoned(Dylan cover), and to end the whole day, ac/dc for those about to rock, what a fucking show that must have been
The most powerful concert in human history..... much millions citizen in one concert , problably 2,5 milllions people :)
@12:52 - That bass player is Jason Newsted. He was in Metallica from 1986 to 2001. Robert Trujillo didn't come into the band until 2002.
1.2 million there, what a show
He did indeed yell the fword into the mic, it is said it was his reaction to how big the crowd was and the energy they brought.
