    It may suck that Thursday out sells many in the market, but it kinda pains me to admit that they started me on my way. And many moons later, I just ordered my second pair from Nicks.

      Thursday boots does a great job giving opportunities to people who can't afford $700 boots to enjoy the boot life. Boot snobs like you always sound ridiculous. I'm guessing since I'm a Truman boot guy I don't measure up either 🤷

    Having worn some of the smooth leathers discussed (CXL, gaucho crazy horse, calf), I recently got curious about Italian leathers they use sometimes in luxury goods, namely stuff like badalassi carlo's vachetta in boots. I know it's probably just Italian for vegetable tanned leather but I was curious about if different countries have different preference/ideals on what makes the best boot leather. For example, europe probably wouldn't have a preference for work boot leathers as much the American Pacific North West, and I wonder if their perception changes if it's a latigo/saddle leather. I also wonder how shrinking Italian vachetta affects the feeling of wearing it as a boot.

      Badalassi is definitely a great tannery. There are definitely regional preferences. Europe uses a lot of calf for example. We'll definitely be going more in depth on stuff like that in future episodes.

      @@cloveroak5492 Good to know about Badalassi because I made the mistake of seeing the Oak Street's Badalassi Cognac Ness field boot after that comment and now I have the dry aged A5 wagyu steak boot stuck on my mind. I really shouldn't spend more on boots.

    Any chance you could talk about the leathers on the better made British makers like Edward Green, C&J, Cleverly?

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  5 месяцев назад +1

      They will use whatever the customers want. So that is kinda anything and everything. Stock hides focus calf, 2 of those main tanneries being Alran and Bodin Joyeux. We'll cover them to some extent in a future video on UK tanneries

    Opinions what leather would the host use for a franks rebuilt? The uppers are walnut work leather by Seidel what leather would you use for lowers? Thanks in advance

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  3 месяца назад +1

      Not sure which of us is the host. 😂 But I (Jeff) will respond...
      It depends on some of the factors we discuss in videos after this. Using as a hard working blue color boot, wet conditions, dusty conditions, office, weekend warrior, etc.
      Are the lowers presently Walnut? Smooth or RO? What about the present lowers did you like and dislike?

      @@cloveroak5492 the boots are worn casually. It began its life a front range in stock ready to ship so smooth walnut upper/lowers I absolutely love the boots but sizing was bit short and narrow for my wide and tall instep feet. I have them in at franks for size adjustment rebuild and want to try a 2 tone boot and curious what would be a nice 2 tone boot besides brown and black.

      @@NightDiver81 Hard question. Black certainly what comes to mind. Orange is awful showy. Not red, not green, not blue. I can't even think of many brown shades.
      The only thing I can think of, which I have seen twice, would be Tan Teton RO. It looks a little like wheat.

    What is brain tanning

    • @cloveroak5492
      @cloveroak5492  6 месяцев назад +4

      Over the years many different kinds of tanning has been explored, and people have always tried to use as much of the animal as possible so nothing goes to waste. A popular use for the animals brain used to be for tanning. In some animals there is just enough brain to tan that particular animal. Bison brain is an example of where brain excelled as a tanning method, so the practice continued longer than with other animals. In professional tanning it is the only example that still sometimes is done. If you search YT you can find back to nature survivalist people that will tan deer with their brains I think.
