It's not a big deal this time since they're mostly snow pants but I wish they would make their pants for female Sims higher waisted. They're never high enough for my liking. Aside from that, I'm excited for these items!
@@elise6970 That's a great point so I understand why they may not have done it this time around but I hope they make them higher waisted more often in the future! You're right though, Discover University does have some really great ones! 😊
If you have eco lifestyle there are some pants that look a little like snow pants.

This CAS actually motivates me to make male sims which is saying something
i think the third hair might be awkward cause it seems to be made for hats and helmets to give that shaggy snowboarder vibe
It’s the bangs on the men’s long hair style that makes it look so weird. Someone on the Sims cas team likes making hair styles that make the sims have big foreheads. It would look better if the bangs were more full on the left side, instead of the awkward gap making his forehead look huge.

Yeah, that "dressy outfit" for males is, indeed, their school uniform. The girl uniforms are inspired from sailor outfits and the boy ones from military / army outfits.
Correct me if I'm wrong but 11:07 (and 12:17) look like haori, which is a kind of outerwear worn over kimono. I'm not really sure because most haori don't have pockets or the tie thingies that are in the middle (for the former). The latter is a more cardigan-y take, which I kind of like.
>> *Edit:* The one in 11:07 might be a happi (a straight-sleeved coat worn by house servants in the past) instead. I saw one that looks exactly like one of the color swatches.
I checked with a Discord server I'm in (for a game based on Japanese literature) before posting the initial comment but people there were equally confused. Maybe EA went with a middle-of-the-road thing.
14:25, as pointed out by several people in the comments, is a kimono. 15:28 is a formal kimono with a haori on top and tied in the middle with haori-himo (the thread thing).
>> *Edit:* 39:03 is the ladies' version, but it's more accurate to call it a yukata (and thus the one at 14:25 would be a men's yukata), which is more informal compared to a kimono. You often see yukata being worn at summer festivals or in onsen/bathhouses. 40:35 is the women's kimono (which can be differentiated from a yukata by the double collar) with a haori. The haori is not tied together for women's kimono, but the wrap around the waist (called an obi) is more elaborate than in the men's kimono or yukata.
46:45 is the boys' version, and 51:13 is the girls' version. The patterns are different for masculine and feminine Sims, which reflect the patterns seen in kimono and yukata in real life.
16:45 (and 45:30) is a gakuran, a traditional school uniform for boys. Unlike in the US, Japanese middle school (12-15 years old) and high school (15-18 years old) students wear uniforms. While not all elementary school kids (6-12 years old) wear uniforms, they traditionally have standard backpacks called randoseru that are built to last the entire six years.
21:52 / 43:13 seems to be based on the zori, a type of sandals which are traditionally made with rice straw. These days you see ones made from synthetic material more often though.
53:44 is also a kimono, but it doesn't have an obi. Instead, there's a vest on top called a hifu. This is usually worn by three-year-old girls at Shichi-Go-San (a festival day and rite of passage for children), see www.nippon.com/en/features/jg00043/. (It also mentions the hakama, which isn't in any of the outfits since it would have been too formal for this pack, but I would have loved to see it - not least because I want to see a Sim Tanjiro Kamado in one. But I digress.)
The other traditional-looking kids' and toddlers' full body outfit would also be worn at onsen or bathhouses, but my memory is kind of foggy on this one.

I think the bunny hats are supposed to be helmets with a furry cover over it - you see a lot of kids with that kind of thing on the mountain.
I also don’t understand why goggles weren’t part of eyewear instead of hats!! Seems like it would’ve been an easy way to handle that haha
I'm so glad we're getting more cold weather clothes for female sims! idk if i'm alone on this, but i am NOT a fan of the ones that came with seasons, I only ever use like two of them

Im actually happy we get more winter clothes like jackets and stuff. Im tired of my sims freezing to death cos I don’t want the same 3 styles of winter outfits in half of my sims population.
Those robes are called Kimono and they’re a traditional Japanese fashion worn for festivals and special occasions. The “dinner outfit” is a school uniform which is usually only worn by children and teens so idk why they’d include one for young adults
I know this comment is from 7 months ago, but for the school uniform, young adults / adults share the same CAS as teens do!
None of the people doing CAS recognizes the male school uniform, gakuran. Watching anime all pandemic makes it clear I have picked up more of Japanese culture than I realized. Neat.

For this style, though, I think it works. It's obviously a mullet and those always tend to look a bit awkward. That's part of the flair of it, I think!

at 20:46 and 21:16 those are actually ski boots (to like clip into tour skis) and snowboard boots (you bind them to your snowboard).
I feel like the guys longer haircut would look cute on a female sim. Give it like a 70s vibe that’s trending right now! ☺️
I normally hate stuff packs but I wouldn't mind if the did a fashion pack for with this because japan has such beautiful traditional fashion as well as amazing street style fashion I love the stuff they added with this pack but I'd like more
The long hairstyle you talked about is weird I think because the hair itself is wavy and messy, but the shape is rigid and straight, so it's an awkward clash.

I really like the CAS, but the amount of male hair is such a disappointment.
I just got to the female hair styles of the video and oh my god they have so many!! I wish males had more since it always so hard to make a male sim that I like
I'm kinda disapointed. I wanted more traditional Japanese items rather than ones that are for the snow

I'm loving everything from this pack already... CAS is very important to me and having these different outfits and swatches are a dream for me. My only thing is the hairstyles for the men look a little funny to me and the toddler hair is not really sitting right for me. Other than that I'm SUPER excited!

the "weirdly" colored hairs and clothes are Harajuku fashion, it's not supposed to be conventionaly likeable, it was in the trailer too, it's so hard to hear you drag it or call the gakuran dinner outfits or the kimono robes, a little bit of research before a review in a different culture please 😑 on the other hand, I think you covered everything pretty nicely and I cannot wait to play with this expansion, I feel like they nailed most of the items, it's my favourite so far 😍

Hey Simlicy! Longtime watcher, first time commenter. Just wanted to let you know that two of the boots you discuss in this video are not just snow boots, but specifically ski boots (hard molded plastic) and snowboard boots, which presumably would snap in to the skis and snowboards in game, much like these boots do in real life!

The CAS items are lovely! I agree about the hair with the bangs and the longer male hair. Something about them. That Bob though... wow. I'm crazy about that hair!
The hairline on the long male hair is so high it makes his forhead look gigantic
14:28 I -think- that is a kimono and the next one is a yukata. A yukata, from what I can tell, tends to have a layered neckline as one obvious difference between it and a kimono.
Anyone who knows more, please inform me. I find it really interesting.
I am fairly sure that it's a Kimono Haori, basically just a kimono with like a jacket kind of cover, not sure tho.
Not to hate on the video because the simmers that worked on this did a good job but, why didn’t Sims hire Japanese players to build in the world inspired by their home and they know how to pronounce the words and names

I love the gakuran (male school uniform) and the kimonos (the pretty robes, one is a yukata and the formal one with the haori) , cant wait for recolors from the modding community!

I like the cas part I just wish the sims team would add more curly hair rather then cas thats loaded with straight and wavy hair textures, ngl the curly briads they added are a beautiful but thats one item thats just one ..I understand its a Japanese inspired pack but still... Other then that everything else is beautiful
I agree. But like you said, this is a Japanese inspired pack so it wouldn’t make sense to add a bunch of curly hairs in it, as the Japanese have straight hair.

I’m just a tad bit disappointed bc there wasn’t a long straight hair option like I figured since they gave us a curly/wavy one for DU pack. I was also expecting that they’d give us scarves since this is dedicated to a snowy/winter theme pack. But overall I’m quite appreciative of their efforts. Hopefully in the next base game/free update they’ll include some of the stuff they see us wishing for.

For the one hair, it could be the bangs that are wierd...my sister called them ugly, so it could very well be the bangs on that hair. I love the CAS AND BB. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS PACK!!!!!!

The dressy outfit on the guys is indeed the school uniform, so excited for this pack my only complaint is that traditional kimonos aren't a top and bottom like they seem to look like in the game they're typically solid robe like pieces in appearance before they're put on properly

Those first shoes were ski boots. Wouldn’t wear them on your everyday outfit. Edit: there was a pair of snowboard boots too

22:38 those are in fact hiking/jogging boots but not rock climbing shoes, rock climbing shoes need to have a flat rubber sole to grip the rock/wall better. :)
33:27 is EA's interpretation of Lisa Frank, and you can't tell me otherwise.
I think those shoes with the Velcro are rock climbing shoes :)) my sister has a pair and they look questionable 😂

I looked it up and the male version of a kimono is called a yukata.
Where did you look this up..? 👀 Yukata is the “summer version” of the Kimono if that makes sense - it’s made of a lighter fabric. Yukata is used by both - male and female 😅

It’s not a new feature, it’s included in the versions of packs that Gamechangers receive when they get early access
Ok I do like the pack but I think there could have been other ideas that would have been better. But I’m so happy they are including other cultures ! Only thing is there was a few issues with disrespect Ming the Japanese culture in the trailer. I think EA should educate themselves more to not offend there players and community. BTW this is my opinion ❤️
