I cried during Freebird playing on the radio as they went on together towards death. Still an amazing film showing villainy and human emotion together. Great Review! I also enjoyed this ! Been a fan of Ty since Abc’s of death and onto Vhs. The Innkeepers omg brilliant piece like a 70s artsy piece about youth coming of age film like japanese crazy film from 77 House.
I can’t believe you didn’t mention that iconic FINAL SHOT for the end credit sequence. By far the most brilliant and disturbing final shot in a horror movie I ever seen. That scene alone is Oscar worthy from Mia Goth. Absolutely staggering.
Did you know that ending was unplanned? It wasn’t in the script! Ti West said, “That was just a random experimental idea that I was like, ‘Let’s try this, see what happens.’ Then she did that, and after watching it for three minutes, I said, “Cut. That’s great. We’re going to put that in the movie, and let’s go back to work now.’
Mia Goth is a wonderful actress, so glad she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves. Loved X, but have to say I loved Pearl more! Very excited for Maxxxine
When you said that you didn’t even realize that the horror wasn’t really in pearl until your partner pointed it out I felt that so hard. I didn’t even realize because I was in love so much until my friend I went with pointed it out
Pearl topped X and Barbarian for me and this is coming from someone who loves your typical slasher films. I just love character driven films especially when taking placed in the early 1900s. Pearl is Mia Goth’s film and she deserves all the praises she’s getting. Pearl is in my top 5 favorite horror films of the year. I give it a 4.8/5
Glad to see Ti West finally getting a bit more recognition. He was one of the directors who kicked off the horror revival in the early 2010's with The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers but for some reason people kind of forgot about him. He's a first rate director. He also films right here in Connecticut. I got to see the Yankee Peddler Inn up close.
I absolutely loved this movie now I don’t think it was as good as X for me personally cause it had more horror and gore but that’s really the only nitpick for Pearl. Mia Goff truly turned it out like I thought she was good in X but she was amazing in Pearl that 5 min monologue was fantastic it felt like that Toni C scene from that Hereditary dinner scene rant . The fact we got two amazing horror prequels with orphan first kill and Pearl. I’m hoping TI west can wrap up this trilogy nicely with Maxxxine. This felt like if wizard of oz went into the horror genre cause it was a period piece fs.
This is the review I was waiting for!! Pearl was sososo good. I love how Ti West can transport his viewers to different time periods. He did that so well in House of the Devil and Pearl.
I truly wonder what exactly the plot of Maxxxine will be cause in a article it said it’ll be about how homemade movies have affected people or something along those lines. Like will it still have slasher elements like X and Pearl cause the antagonist Pearl is dead so unless Maxine becomes the killer I have no idea Wtf is gonna happen💀
@@xs0ftx3 like the way Pearl said at the end of X “You’re gonna end up just like me” and “It’ll all be taken from you”. So if Maxine truly ends up the way Pearl did then yup it’ll be a tale of two souls growing up in different eras but ending up the same.
My boyfriend and I went to see this last night, and when Pearl had her monologue we looked at one another like, "holy.... shit....." It's a 10/10 for both of us. So much fun to watch.
The monologue at the end was epic. It was also kind of hilarious considering the context. The scene that followed was probably the scariest part of the movie. I think villain origin stories don't work if they only kill off unlikable characters.

"Pearl" is just outstanding. Even if you're not a horror geek it's just brilliant. I loved "X" but I think "Pearl" is quite a bit better. I love the eyebrow representation too haha. I have light eyebrows too and I hate having to fill them in, but social pressures make me feel like I have to lol. Love your review!
I absolutely feel your pain. I genuinely had people ask if I shave off half my eyebrows. I’m like nope, just freakishly blonde at the middle to the end. 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Hands down my favorite movie of the year! Pearl as a character is just amazing and she is my joker. Mia goth is now becoming one of my favorites actors every. Im really curious as to what the horror elements will be in maXXXine tho
i agree 100%. as soon as i got out the theater i thought to myself, peeler is so different from X but in a FANTASTIC way. i immediately said they compliment each other so so well. great companion movie to X. i cannot wait to own them and cannot wait what Ti West & Mia Goth have inshore for Maxxxine
mia goth in this was outstanding, best acting in any horror, almost oscar worthy,6/5,liked barbarian but think this was better just because of the acting.
I saw a comment on another video about pearl that Texas chainsaw massacre should do the same thing where they go back to the 1920’s-1930’s depression era and why/ how the family came to be cannibals and I completely agree
I think you look beautiful with your natural eyebrows! As a fellow fair-faced blonde, I feel like I look so weird darkening in my eyebrows…Its just not me looking back at myself when I try to color up my brows 🤷♀️. So perhaps i’m biased BUT I think you look lovely keeping it light!
I FINALLY watched this and Mia Goth was impeccable. I feel like this was so underrated as I would've expected at least an 8 on IMDB or 4 stars on Letterboxd. I loved it, one of the best movies I've seen in years
i watched pearl first and then X, i think it made watching x way more enjoyable having seen pearl’s backstory. at the start of X i thought mia goths main character was still pearl somehow, but that she changed her name, found some way to stay young, or even that she had a daughter that looked her. but then slowly realizing that it was the old woman was actually pearl felt so satisfying! and seeing the first one i truly understood how pearl saw herself in maxine, and her motives in X. i think i would have just dismissed her as just another crazy old person if i hadn’t seen pearl first and i wouldn’t have appreciated the subtle nods to her old life.
I loved Pearl, but I do think X was better. I would like to have seen more development of her husband and what lead them to the events of X. However, still both fantastic movies and if pearl was a serial killer in the 80s shed be up there with Freddy and Jason
I was late to the game on Pearl and watched it before X without even realizing it was the second in the series which was probably for the best since I didn't love X. Pearl was phenomenal! I was glued to the screen. Mia Goth's performance gave me chills many times during the movie, especially that pitchfork scene.
I thought PEARL was great. So unique and so colorful. A true throwback to 50s horror and Mia Goth slayed the role. However, I much prefer BARBARIAN. It's just more my type of plot and I like a lot of disturbing stuff in my horror. Both are must watches though.
I want to believe the trailer was marketed in the style of the film and how trailers would have been received with audiences of the time. there was this one trailer seen that made the whole experience of watching the film worth every second. After seeing that trailer scene in the film I felt totally engrossed; It literally felt good. It genuinely made me feel like I was in a real theater again
Love this movie!!!! One of the best horror films I've ever seen, X was amazing as well!!! Can't wait for MaXXXine!! I have to be at work at 4AM, and wake up at 2AM to get ready for work I actually stayed up late on Thursday night to see this movie when it opened and went to work tired the next day it was totally worth it!!!!!
Since I watched your ranking of A24 movies Ive made it my goal to watch them all. Just watched this one… and omg. Nothing will ever compare to the ring in horror (I think) but holy shit what an amazing movie. The acting is 10/10 . She deserves an Oscar and I hope she does. I’m so excited for Maxxxine
My favorite scene in the movie was the last scene when Pearl just casually walks out of the house picks up the axe and just starts running behind the girl it looks like she gets taller and taller the closer she gets to her!
your outfit! is pure fire. Mia Goth is next level amazing in this though. One of the best performances I've ever seen. Pearl is absolutely my favorite of the year, so good it elevates X. And the manager gave me the poster before I left which I have on my wall. Can't wait for Maxxxine. But mostly can't wait to rewatch this one.
I didn't enjoy Pearl quite as much as X and definitely not as much as Barbarian, but I still thought it was a good movie. I'm looking forward to seeing MaXXXine, and I think the whole X trilogy will end up being a great series
WARNING: SPOILERS! I watched X yesterday and Pearl today and loves both. I was a big fan of the oddly comforting Pearl moments in X. It definitely made me already endeared to the character. If I had watched them in reverse, I think I would have lost it when Pearl kills RJ in X and then starts dancing. I thought it was haunting the first time but now with so much background I need to see it again.
I just came back from watching Pearl. I agree, it was absolutely incredible. The acting was great, Pearl was a really interesting character, visually it was such a pretty movie, I can't believe what I just watched. I'm not sure if I like it better than X or not it's hard to say, but I absolutely loved that film. I give it 5/5, and if I could, I would give it more.
So I actually watched Pearl first this weekend, and X today. It was a weird situation because I saw Pearl off of a recommendation which I always go in blind for. I absolutely gushed over Pearl, it was absolutely fantastic. I honestly feel like the order I had made the whole experience amazing. The repression of Pearl taking everything so slowly as you follow her getting closer and closer to her crescendo, with that ending being absolutely beautiful. That repression pays off with the absolute indulgence of X.
honestly you look so good in the blond brows, love the makeup. I Just found out Mia Goth is half brazillian (im from Brazil, so this peaked my interest), curious about this movie.
Everyone keeps praising Pearl, i am so glad Mia Goth is getting the recognition she deserves cause she was so amazing in X

Honestly dying to see both Barbarian AND Pearl. The wife and I can't decide which we wanna see tomorrow. But also stoked for Maxxxine whenever that comes out too. Still need to find a streaming service that has Bodies Bodies Bodies.
Bodies will be available to stream on October 5 2022 :)
@@hatchok6324 SWEET thank you!
I’m so glad this just came out! I just got out of the movie theatre and this is such a gift!
I am so excited for Pearl!!! I'm thinking about seeing it today
I can’t wait to watch this!! Doesn’t make sense that they didn’t bring pearl out in the UK but they had X in the cinemas
Love your natural eyebrows! It's a soft look ☺️
Pearl was really good. I agree that I would have enjoyed it more without watching the trailer first
The planets are in retrograde, and great horror films are coming out. What a time to be alive.
Just watched X last night and I cannot wait to see pearl!
mia goth in this was outstanding, best acting in any horror, almost oscar worthy,6/5,liked barbarian but think this was better just because of the acting.
Pearl is already for digital pre-orders!!!
I FINALLY watched this and Mia Goth was impeccable. I feel like this was so underrated as I would've expected at least an 8 on IMDB or 4 stars on Letterboxd. I loved it, one of the best movies I've seen in years
Only seen this film once but I remember being shocked. Can’t wait to rewatch on Blu-ray next month.
Went to a double feature of Pearl & X at the drive-in movie. Highly recommend!
i watched pearl first and then X, i think it made watching x way more enjoyable having seen pearl’s backstory. at the start of X i thought mia goths main character was still pearl somehow, but that she changed her name, found some way to stay young, or even that she had a daughter that looked her. but then slowly realizing that it was the old woman was actually pearl felt so satisfying! and seeing the first one i truly understood how pearl saw herself in maxine, and her motives in X. i think i would have just dismissed her as just another crazy old person if i hadn’t seen pearl first and i wouldn’t have appreciated the subtle nods to her old life.
I love the natural eyebrows!!
I've been waiting on this review eagerly
I feel ya. I have brown hair and black eyebrows and lashes. Not matching either, lol. Thanks for the review!
your outfit! is pure fire.
Mia Goth, that is all 🥺
You’re naturally bomb!! Haha I love ur neon CSI?? Looking top very cool fit 😊
LOVED PEARL!!! Oscar for Mia Goth! At least in our dreams. SO GLAD YOU SAW IT AND LOVED IT!!!
I love Mia Goth so much. The unsettling look during the ending credits was breath taking.
Truly, pearl was SO amazing to me!!!
I wouldn’t change a thing. I hope to one day hear what scene you would’ve changed. I’m so curious lol.
