    Rise of the mid-ABV (47.5 % - 52.5% abv ~ 95-105 proof) and charge as Cask strength . . . sad, really. Great vid.

    Thanks for some Glenrothes love. I was a big fan of their vintages line, but I do like the soleo range. The distiller is Gordon Motion, who took over from Jack Ramsay. While this bottle is NAS, word on the street is that it’s a 15 year which explains the price point.

    • @Scotch4Dummies

      Thanks for the info sharing! That's what we're all about. This one is pretty darn good. We've had our ups and downs with GR over the last few years and have found we either really like a bottle or don't much care for it.....hoping to see that trend up and steady! ~Mark

    • @neilstucky6265
      @neilstucky6265 5 лет назад

      I think most people have the same sentiment. The bottles are a huge hit or a massive miss. I confess to missing the vintages concept b/c it was different and somewhat cool to get an entirely new vintage every few years. They also had a core line of reserves (sherry, bourbon, and peated) that I liked. This new line is pretty pedestrian for the most part. Hoping for some more bottles like this one, with some nice abv and perhaps some interesting finishes

    Perhaps it would be better to compare to its similar competition, Abelour Abundh, Tamdhu Batch Strength. and the Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, Glenfarclas 105, and even the Redbreast Lustau. Seems they are in the same ball park for price. How would it fair compared to those?

    • @everwind5691
      @everwind5691 5 лет назад

      @@Scotch4Dummies Well that would be fun, I think it is important when reviewing anything to compare other products at a similar price point/place in the market. It is not fair to compare a Toyota Prius to a Ferrari, but it fair to compare against a Leaf, a Volt, etc. Price on itself is hard to do, because of market forces (taxes, rarity, demand, and location. ) VA prices are always higher for the same scotches you pay in Indiana.

    The not so secret rumor says this batch is around 16yo but they didn't state that because next batch may be different. Opened mine recently and it is impressive for the price/abv/perceived age. Problem is this is $72 and I can get Glendronach 15yo and Tamdhu Batch Strength for $85...hmm.

    I am not sure what is happening with their branding? They look more and more like Springbank and look like they are trying to stand out but they seem to blend in with the crowd. My first enjoyable whisky was Glenrothes Select Reserve but it isn't a whisky I tend to delve into although their new range does seem to be a little inviting especially with the age range now. Cheers guys :)

    • @neilstucky6265

      @@neilstucky6265 Ah really, I liked the select reserve too. My missus poured me one the other night and I couldn't tell what it was but all I could think about was how good it tasted and it made me nostalgic. Should have guessed it was that one. Cheers Neil

      I enjoyed select reserve too, but many moons ago. I really liked the vintage reserve, which is now also gone. I discovered the line because they used vintages rather than age statements, and to be honest, I miss that concept a lot, and I hope they will come back to it. The new soleo range is hit or miss for me. I like this particular one a lot tho

    So Drew, you gave this 75 buck bottle a 2.5 because it is NAS and expensive. But you gave Mac Edition 5 a 3.5 for being NAS and 135 bucks. Does your rating make any sense to you? I guess the MAcallan brand carris an extra few points with it. I am not even a Glenrothes fan and I thought this was better than edition 5. To me this is the only glenrothes even worth buying. The others are just meh. I agree with the others guys, this one is a great bottle and not much in it's price range can match it. Maybe that's how you should look at things. At 75 bucks what could you have gotten that is as good? Not much.
