Alot of people don't realize how much of a treat this is, to get a third Homeworld game, when the first one debuted in 1999 it was revolutionary at the time-to get full 3d space combat at that time was HUGE.
...but this still looks like Homeworld 2. I was expecting a much grander scale between ships. The only "large ship" is the hyperspace gate. I'm not sure about this.
I'm so glad that they take note about unit's radio chats from Desert of Kharak and improve them further. More informative and easier to identify which unit type in your fleet is reporting.
That originates with Homeworld: Cataclysm, which had a couple of responses for each unit. The Worker, for instance, would give an exasperated sigh before reluctantly acknowledging the order to harvest resources. The Ore Refinery ship is commanded by an old guy who's hard of hearing. The Recon unit is a cocky lady. And so on.
the 1999 game had a lot of that actually: there were alerts like "group 3 under fire", "resource controller under attack" and so on. Game had a lot more voice alerts than RTS usually had

@@starliner2498 Yeah it was such a fantastic touch of lore. Kushan had very utilitarian ships, made only to serve their purpose as they were underdogs. Taiidan were a mighty empire with resources plenty, and had the luxury of building pretty ships.
"End of the line Fleet ... make it count" that may have been just random coms from the game or just made for the trailer, but that kinda of stuff makes me sad. Such an heroic pilot , and as always Homeworld is just a visual marvel of an RTS, the new aditions seem pretty neat. Fantastic job !
Should have pulled the last pilot back for a full refill. In homeworld 2 remastered, if you return even 1/5 ships from a squadron to resupply, you can get a full squadron of ships for free. It makes carrier fleets very strong.

@@amorphousavocet1210 It could also mean that you have hero units that are better than regular ones that you have to use wisely or lose for the rest of the campaign. Imagine if those hero units could affect options within the story if you manage to keep them alive or lose them too soon.

Limitations or caveats with the use of this tech? -> Requires a large amount of energy just to initiate the wormhole, and energy requirements scale with the surface area of the wormhole opening, so you need a frigate class power source just to initiate the creation of a wormhole so micro-wormholes are off the table and small craft like fighters and corvettes aren't capable of creating wormholes on their own. What implications does this have for things like combat communications and general command and control? -> inability to create micro-wormholes means impact of wormhole technology on communications or command and control operations is non-existent, use is primarily relegated to transportation. Therefore communications will still rely on electromagnetic comms systems, technological advancements will mostly impact data-rate, ability to communicate even in high noise environments, and power efficiency as underlying physics remain unchanged. Hence comms chatter between units.

Like, Ali of the Spicy Sands, captain of the Frigate Coarse and Rough who took on an entire patrol of corvettes, won, and then rammed a cruiser; crippling it.
Huge improvement, it also encourage player to be more into tactical thinking like using debris as shield and using tunnels for hide and when time's right use for ambush/surprise attack. Well done
it was one of the complains about the other games, there was almost not tactical aspect when it came to movement and positioning. its amazing to hear that they are trying to improve that.
It absolutely looks like a REAL Homeworld game. That they haven't fallen into the trap of modernising, consolising or general dumbing-down that most modern devs do these days. That wonderful Homeworld vibe and atmosphere appears intact. Can't wait for this.
This was my thinking the whole way through. Thank you thank you thank you for making it an actual Homeworld game and not feeling the need to change everything for the sake of it. It looks and sounds like a Homeworld game, right down to the super-saturated navy colour of the sensor background screen.
The 3D combat sims we enjoy today owe a huge debt of gratitude to Homeworld. There was nothing like this in 1999. Every space sim I've played since then contains a strong echo of Homeworld.
It's pretty amazing how this simulatenously looks great and fresh while looking just like the original homeworld, really a testament to how great that original design was.
Though it is all customised cinematic cameras rather then showing the game itself. We have had plenty of trailers over the last 20 years with in game content be misleading. Enjoy but just be aware that what we saw doesnt show a playable game.
The battlechatter... they nailed it! The Music ... such Homeworld! The chaos of battle ... nice! This trailer made me more hopeful then anything before.
It's amazing, really. From the time Homeworld 2 was released (nearly 20 years ago), until today, there was not a single RTS borne from concepts of 3D space management, that even came close to matching the space opera that is the Homeworld series. Some have tried, but none come remotely close. It's almost like everyone knew this cannot be matched, so they don't bother trying at all, and just wait in anticipation that one day there will be a HW3...and lo, here it is, outdoing itself to make that space RTS crown even loftier.
No other game brings tears up like this one. Homeworld was the best RTS story experience of it's time ever. Game of the year 1999 PC gamer... Can't wait 😁🤩
This looks great! Hope it can deliver. Still kinda hoping that they remake cataclysm or include the beast campaign in some way, but from what I've heard that code is lost due to reasons.
Homeworld: what a game! Along with Shogun Total War (the original), my favourite games of that decade. True 3D grandeur, underpinned by a soundtrack second to none. Oh the satisfaction of that Yes track (from The Ladder) in the end credits! One of those very special games that left an indelible mark.

Once again, beautiful ship design reminiscent of 1970's airbrushed art - such as in Chris Foss's coffee table books and sci fi novel covers. It's the classic aesthetic.
It looks astounding, which is what we have come to expect from the Homeworld series. I'm really looking forward to seeing the story, that for me has always been the main strength of the series.
Would be cool if the massive ship halls or walls would reflect the missle or gun mussel effets. With all those explosions or missile passing by, it looks weird that the surrounding debris dont even light up.
Honestly i'm just happy about the fact that fighters are now independent from each other instead of coming out as squads.They really listened to the community.

The lead designer of the OG Homeworld said that designing an RTS in space meant not needing to render terrain, therefore freeing up computer resources for better ship designs & AI. How lucky we are that HW3 is able to have both. This is going to be spectacular

Similar in some ways, but the Homeworld series has 3 dimensions to its maps so you can approach at any angle, and much more granular control over the little things (like picking which wings to load into a carrier before sending it into a fight.)

The Scouts/Interceptors being a combination of Kushan and Taiidan design is fantastic.
In my personal opinion, the taiidan ships were the most beautiful in the entire homeworld universe, especially their destroyer.

They do. There's other footage out there that shows gun and missile fire pockmarking the structures

The lead designer of the OG Homeworld said that designing an RTS in space meant not needing to render terrain, therefore freeing up computer resources for better ship designs & AI.
How lucky we are that HW3 is able to have both. This is going to be spectacular

Similar in some ways, but the Homeworld series has 3 dimensions to its maps so you can approach at any angle, and much more granular control over the little things (like picking which wings to load into a carrier before sending it into a fight.)

These missile frigates: are they glass cannons or artillery units? Normal frigates shouldn't be vulnerable to interceptors...
They should change it so it's vulnerable at the back or specific formation fire.

@@sloo6425 That's actually the case here: as per various game articles about the playable demo, interceptors approaching the missile frigates from the front got obliterated, hence giving the game the opportunity to show off the new cover and terrain systems to approach the missile frigates from behind.
So excited for this :D
