    Great video. Side Note he doesn't need that large wrench.The Large strap socket he has to remove the threaded middle seal has a small like circle by the handle that's used for that top cap unthreading . And you can primer it also buy pumping it next to the fuel sep promary filter.

  • @eadiesel326
    @eadiesel326 4 года назад +9

    All you had to was pump the priming pump near your canister filters to prime it

    It is pulling the fuel down because the cap is off . DD’s do not have an electric fuel pump .

    The little notch in the other end of your filter wrench,has a vent wrench ,that’s what the u shaped notch, is for ,you should take vary good care to not crack the vent cap with chanalocks , ok thanks BigAl California.

    When draining the diesel fuel always open the cap on top, then you don't get air in the fuel system

  • @larryhutchinson4271

    Nomad Chad, you do realize by now that you have another fuel filter on that motor right? You actually pointed it out during your video, it has a main filter and a pre-filter to change and that one has a hand pump to prime because it is the primary fuel pump, the Davco doesn't need changing till it is close to the top of the cartridge. Your mechanic was very through in his cleaning inside of canister, but should have just opened the top cap on housing (with his filter wrench) then opened the petcock in bottom and completely drain the housing, then wipe the worst of the grime off the outside so not to contaminate, and take apart, excellent job of cleaning inside and replacing and partially filling with injector cleaner and clean diesel fuel, but you don't have to really do that till you put your cover back on and go through the top, you can fill it up a little bit or all the way like he said. But then replace your small top cap and you are good to go, you will not see, diesel on the glass cover until the filter starts to plug up a little then it will creep higher and higher, it kept taking the fuel he was adding because that is the way it was designed. If anyone who pointed that out to you was wrong why did you not show us the part on the video where he stopped adding fuel because it was half full.. Guarantee it never stayed at half. Looks like yours was going to stay at about half an inch up the glass. But after you started driving I bet it went down some more.

    Dude they don’t prime them that way at speedco not because they don’t want to take the time to do it the way you did. They do t do it that way because they have an actual Davco priming machine. And plus the way he primed it was wrong all around because Detroit engines all have a hand primer.... And another thing, you do realize that the dirty fuel outside of the filter doesn’t make it to your engine right? That’s the crud that didn’t get through the filter. Nate is teaching ppl the wrong way and making it more complicated then it actually is.

      Sign the fuel pump going bad

    • @jimbobhella4588
      @jimbobhella4588 2 года назад

      If you have metal in the filter housing, take it to a reputable shop and have them check the tanks, fuel/water separator, and fuel filters for additional signs of shavings. When the fuel pump goes bad it sends shavings thru the entire fuel system. Worst case scenario is labor to flush tanks & lines, new fuel pump and a 6 pack of injectors.... Best case, change filters 3 times within 15k miles and a new fuel pump

    That ain't a fuel filter. Its a fuel water separator

    • @kaceyanders6599
      @kaceyanders6599 3 года назад

      Actually it's both. The recessed bottom of the housing gives the water separator function (water being denser than diesel drops to the bottom, below the level of the cartridge so in theory the water never gets through) but the cartridge itself is a paper medium concertina (sp?), i.e. a filter. Some trucks have another filter with a finer rating which gives an extra level of filtering, but can be (not always) swines to prime after replacing. Some advocate replace the 'big' filter first, run it for a few minutes to prime it and settle, then the change the 'small' filter. Others suggest the other way around. Others suggest both the same time, but that can be really hard to prime.

  • @jonathanunnasch1825
    @jonathanunnasch1825 4 года назад +4

    That moron could have tightened the cap with the filter wrench. It has a smaller area on the wrench specifically for the cap.
    Also, the top cap should be on before starting the engine. You can turn key to start the prime pump with the cap off to help it prime but don’t start the engine with cap not secured properly.

    @bernardmatias5507 2 года назад

    Damn, cringe worthy for sure. Lots of misleading info. Stuff at the bottom of the filter, means it’s doing its job before it actually gets into the fuel module. Electronic fuel pump? New filters will operate with fuel, around where the collar is on the frame mounted filter. As it filters over time, the fuel level line will get higher and you’ll want to change it when the fuel level hits that line close to the top of that filter. NEVER, run that fuel system with the cap off again. Air is the enemy for this fuel system.
