how to purge fuel system on freightliner cascadia DD15 DD13 DD16 If truck wont start after oil change, you wil need to prime your fuel system. - Авто/Мото
Thank you so much for this video man! I’m in the middle of nowhere in between Reno and Las Vegas.. shutoff the engine and went to sleep. 3 hrs later tried to fire the engine and it will only crank. After 2 hrs of trying did the pump thing without the diesel part and it worked… you saved me too much $$$$ thank you again!!!!!!
Thank you so much! Woke up this morning at 2am to start driving and nope! Just got an oil change yesterday. Ended up just finding the prime pump and pumping that. Thanks again!!
Thanks. Nobody ever taught me how to do this before. Helped me alot.
Thanks for watching sir 🙏
THANK YOU! This video with help from JESUS CHRIST helped me to start my truck after running out!!
Thank you man!!
I was making a turn, leaving from a pickup and literally got stuck in the middle of a right turn, blocking traffic... Company sent me this info to help me out. THANK YOU!
Im glad this video could help you, thanks for watching sir 🙏
Thank You!!! I wz at a Pilot parked in a construction zone and got one of those early morning knocks and surprise surprise my truck wouldn't start, well not until I watched this!!!
Nice, I'm glad we could help you, thanks for watching!!
Awesome. Siphoning fuel at 4am was so much fun. But it did work. Thx brother
Glad it helped
Thanks so much this saved me from having to call a Loves or Pilot and be charged like $500 for a fuel run ⛽️ 😅
Nice , glad this video help you
This is the best way I have seen on these engines to get fuel. Thank you
I remember trying this method in the past when changing all the fuel filters and it didn’t work for me. I may have done something wrong. Maybe this method works best when only removing the (big) fuel/water separator filter.
The method I use now when replacing my fuel filters on the two-filter system module is adding fuel to the smallest filter while I pump the hand primer. I keep on adding fuel and pumping it until the fuel begins to rise quickly when I stop pumping. Then I quickly insert the small filter and close it up. Then I pump the hand primer about 50-100 times and it works every time. There is a video out there showing this method.
I’ve used this method when replacing injector seals and even the fuel pump. It worked with no issues.
Just make sure the diesel that you're adding to the filter housing is filtered, you don't want any particles going in to your fuel system and clog the injectors, thanks for watching sir!!
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY
Makes sense. Thank you.
@@thereviewer4173 so what do you mean you add diesel to the smallest filter? The drop in filter or?

I was doing exactly that, but without the plastic tube.
This was so helpful to me and it got me out of traffic. I didn't do the diesel into the fillet but i did find the
prime pump and pumped over 100 times and it started!!!! Thx
Thank you big time for this video, it really saved me from paying huge amount. God bless you
Glad we could help you
Thank you for this video. I've lost prime a few times running almost empty, barely making it to my fuel stops. This will save me some money the next time it happens.
Saved my unshaven buttocks as well. Subscribed!
I thank God for you my Brother. It worked.
nice glad it worked for you, rhanks for watching sir!!
Had this problem crop up right before vacation. Truck wouldn't start. Tried priming it with the filter pump but couldn't get it to go stiff & damn near killed my batteries. Switched off kill switch. Sat for 2 weeks. A friend suggested I get it started by gasoline soaking the air filter but read that could damage the engine. Saw your video. I topped off water/fuel separator cup with diesel & primed away. Started to get stiffer but not as stiff as it's supposed to. I capped the cup & primed more but the pump loosened up & felt like I just started to prime air again. So I topped off again & turned the key to the on position so fuel pump could help with priming. I turned key a few more times & every time I'd return to prime the pump it felt a little weaker & would soon stiffen up. Once I felt it couldn't stiffen up any more I capped the filter cup & started to crank. 6-7 seconds it fired up. Thank you for your video amigo! It really helped guide me in the right direction. I do have an issue that's causing my system to lose prime. Could be a check valve in the filter body or water fuel separator base. Fuel quantity valve is messing up too. Not sure if that can be causing the issue. So far it's been idling for about 2hrs & I'm still getting bubbles coming up from the base of the water fuel separator cup. Will post an update once I figure it out so as to help the next guy. ✌️
Check the oring on the water separator the bottom one
That happened to me and the oring was not sitting properly
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY I'll do that! Even tho the filter fuel level isn't at the level for a filter replacement I think I'll just go & replace it anyway along with new cup & cap o rings. Thanks again amigo!
I had a problem with the truck losing prime after a shop did a service. No fuel so I just pumped. About 200 times but it started. Thanks for pointing out the location of the primer and I do recommend filling the filter after it's changed if you have the diesel.
Thank you very much for dis video literally helped me get my truck started back up
Thank u for the vid, I was two miles from shipper, truck wouldn't start the next morning, keeping the vids coming.

Damn boy I like the way you pump that 🤭
Lol
But aren't you letting air back into the system by leaving that vent cap off when you fill it with fuel? I would think that would have to be capped off and then start using the hand pump right?
No, if you dont let the diesel get too low (under the black ring) it should be fine, thanks for watching sir 🙏
Gracias

Recently changed oil, my water separator filter is full of fuel well above the "Change" line and I have some small bubbles coming in it. Is it normal?
Recently I heard some squicky noise from there, but truck runs ok. Might it be a Fuel pump problem? Thank you.
I think the orings on the water separator need to be checked, make sure they are properly sitting, there shouldn't be bubbles
I've pumped it and filled it several times but it's still not building pressure. Replaced both fuel filters and water separator and replaced gaskets. Also replaced 2 stage valve. The only time i can get it to start is when i block off the return line to the tank. Any help would be much appreciated 🙏
I did this when changing the fuel filters, i was able to get the truck running no problem, my question is what should the fuel level on the clear filter be at when you are done. When i was finished it was about 1/2” above the black plastic piece but then after i drove it a few miles and stopped it was below that black plastic piece and im not sure if that is okay
Yes thats normal because its a new filter, as the filter get old it will start to raise one its hits the replace line , replace it, thanks for watching sir
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY okay thank you very much, I appreciate your videos you have helped me out a ton
Nice video bro 😎, I just did oil change on my 2016 cascadia replace all fuel filters and when start the truck it cranking for a good 10 seconds and then start , before the oil change truck start instantly , what did I do wrong thanks
Thats normal once you run the truck like 20 to 30 miles it will completely prime it self, thanks for watching bro
em cảm ơn anh nhiều lắm
thanks for watching!!👍👍
what do bubbles in the davco mean while truck is running? looses prime overnight
The bubbles mean air is in the system, make sure the o rings are properly in place
Can you do a video on changing tie rods on the steers? Thanks!
hello, i will try to make a video soon , ill let you know when I upload, thanks
Just change the whole cross tube and be done
Not yet I text him he said he's still working on it trying to get maybe some freight which is the other type of truck box
At where should the fuel in the water separator stay at when the truck is on? When I turn the truck on all the fuel goes away but when I turn it off it come back but stays below the white paper on the filter with all the words on it. Is this fine or do I need to add more fuel?
Thats normal, as the filter gets dirty the it will continue to go up, once it reaches the replace lie put a new filter
Hi I have detroit 60 series when I shut off my engine for 30 mins it's not strat again. Then I have to spary on air filter for strat. But when I park my truck evening then morning time it's strat right way. Can u help me why it's not start after 30 mins
Check the, fuel check valve is in the back of the engine (top on the head)
Do we have to do this process every time whenever we do oil change on truck
Every time you change fuel filters, the suel system gets air in it.
So what do you do when everything has been changed and the primer pump doesn't get any pressure or take the fuel down?
You probably gonna have a faulty prime pu.p
@TRUCKING TIPS DIY what is the exact name for it so that I may order one.
🌴What I am having a problem with I have prime but the fuel line doesn't hold. The fuel line drops and you can't see the fuel any longer still have prrime.I even filled it up again pumped and the fuel line wouldn't drop but after I start the truck or eventually the fuel line drops and you can't see the fuel line at all.
Strangely enough had service done they put in a different filter and the line held. The filter I'm having a problem with is the fleet guard ele max plus. When temps get cold the fuel line comes back up but as soon as it warms up in the beginning it drops but after awhile of using the product it operates what you would expect. Its like the filter is to good at letting fuel get by then when it encounters weather and then it's at a either lower level but you can see the fuel line or it's high but never right where the fuel line is supposed to be.
Luber Finer will hold the line. But I have never had the actual chance to put a different manufacturer filter in to know if it is something I'm not getting right.Same engine compartment as you same.
Same problem in different trucks Peterbilts Kenworths Freightliner with the fleet guard ele max plus.I used to work in a machine shop and maybe there is the bottom o ring is not up to spec the tolerance is just a hair to big ya know. But I'm still thinking is there something I'm doing wrong in thinking that the people behind the fleet guard would be more aware of this than me.🥞
Check the oring on the water separator, some times it doesn't seal properly, hopefully you find the issue
Any idea why im having to prime it every time I turn the truck off ?
Did you get it fixed i m facing same issue
did you had the key on ignition or off
ignition on, I'm not sure if it helps, but i was told it should be on while priming
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY ok thanks I'm doin it today having hard time starting it everyday after second attempt it starts normal.just the first try
i just did ot early today work good 🙏🙏🙏 was having trouble starting the truck last few days and this helped.. viva Mexico y USA. 🇲🇽🇺🇸🇲🇽🇺🇸
My 2020 freightliner cascadia has a check engine light on because of the fuel system prime . I got an oil change and after it the mechanic said that the check engine light should come off after he primed the fuel system but It already been 2 days and the truck is still asking for the fuel system to be prime. It's weird
Has it gone away? Maybe you'll have to clear the code.
@@dr9402 yes sir it came off

Hey so, after i put in and prime the new filter, how much fuel should be visible in the reservoir?
Thanks for your support, I received it, the fuel level can be at any level at long as its under the arrow pointing down where it reads Change filter, on the clear cup, again thank you for the support
Why everyone doing the easy one. How do you prime without primer
pumping. . . .amd then more pumpimg.......then again, aome more pumping- approximately 2-5 hundred more X's Pumping!
If u keep open the cap of water separater will never get done job
Do what you want with this....but you dont have to refill the davco that many times.......
Fill it one time, cap it off....then have someone crank up the engine WHILE you are cranking on the primer knob
what if you have no one to crank it?
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY
Easy...thats where i am at home....
My wife would rather sit back and watch me do it all as opposed to physically help and take a chance on messing stuff up...
Same principle applies fill up one time all the way to the top and cap it off... Pump on the primer knob until it starts getting tight... Turn the key on but don't crank, let the fuel pump run for a minute or so.... Then crank the engine...
You should be fine
i will try that next time
@@TRUCKINGTIPSDIY
Only difference is. When you work solo, you have to crank on the primer longer...
If someone is cranking the engine while you are priming, 4 or 5 pumps, your done
Turn the key on, engine off....let the fuel pump run at least 2 clicks, (you can hear it). Then start cranking the primer and have ur friend fire it up
For solo....crank on the primer untill it starts getting tight, the turn the key on, engine off, let fuel pump run at least 2 clicks...then fire it up...
So the only difference
Crank on the primer longer when solo
@@ryanlevron1972 I think his way is better
You talk like your unsure.
This is a huge waste of time
Great job your professional advise has help understand the system a lot better
The pump didnt feel hard your hand just got tired and weak bro this video is a huge catfish
You don't think it would work?
Look to prime the dd15 it’s simple
Grab a partner
Fill all filters with fuel
Pump the primer and try to crank it at same time
After 3 tries it should be running
Unless primer is bad
@@mikewilson3836 I'm try it on my 670 Volvo d13
The d13 has a pump as well with a goofy spring
As You pump it gets stuck but yes fill
The filters
Grab a partner crank it for a second stop but keep pumping
Crank again for a second
Keep pumping
The third time crank until starts
Maybe a 4th time but most time third time cranking and it fires
Thank you sir!!!
Thanks for watching sir!!
