Had a road call for a crank no start on a dd15. Pulled the fuel filter and it looked like someone dumped glitter in it. Also a good practice for a pm tech to always look inside the housing when changing the filter.

What about shiny metal shavings in the ft uel tank.do completely drain and wash fuel tanks?or do you let the filters do they're job and not drain tanks?
Had mine go out on me outside Louisville KY. Parked it the night at our shop next morning didn't make it they couldn't figure it out. They ran a regen on it right after it started making that exact noise again. Great video

Hi there i have a question and need some advise.
I have 2014 freightliner coronadi 122sd with DD15. Had blown engine had mechanic swap engine got it running great at cold start but after a wile of driving chokes and blowes white smoke on low RPMS open highway runs great just on take offs and low rpms smokes and hesitates.
Injectors are less than a year old with maybe 10 000 miles on them.
Not loosing any coolent and its not happening all the time sometimes more sometimes less and sometimes not at all
What could be causing this?

hey guys love the Information that you bring to us truckers have a question I have a 2014 Cascadia dd15 not all the time but it surge sometimes when I'm on the highway motor going up and down don't cut off or anything just surging pull over wait for 10min and I'm good happens a lot could it be the fuel control valve?
When metal shavings are found in the fuel filter housing should the complete fuel system be flushed out?
If so, how would you recommend that be done?
on a dd15 engine is the primer pump suppose to be solid where you cannot push it down while engine is running?

My truck is revving up and down. Its a freightliner cascadia dd13. When I'm driving it when I hit gas pedal it delays for about a second before it catches. Then this morning when I started it up it make like 10 load clicking noise. It started but engine didn't sound right. And it wouldn't Rev up pass 10 rpm. Any idea?

DD pumps 250 to 300 k miles, then change it again 500 to 600.
That pump and pressure compensation valve are the only thing I would call POS on a DD engine. I have one fleet that I got the drivers to start putting a quart of oil in 90 gal tanks when refueling. Maybe that will help the pump last longer.

what makes the low pressure side and high side still good on a dd15 high pressure pump
2011 cascadia with dd15 getting lot of coolant in fuel system while running and while running losing alot of coolant. Besides cups is there anything else could be doing it. Mechanic think it wouldn't be entirely cups cause it would lock up injectors. 20 mile drive lost a gallon. Coolant was in separator. And the davco is 482 where there is no coolant running thru fuel heater. Truck has not overheated either.
Do you think any of the metal shavings are gonna be holding any check valves, relief valves, or any other valve partially open preventing full closure in the fuel system.
The driver shut truck down as soon as he heard the irregular noise from pump. In most case it is recommended to replace the entire fuel system but, of course we try to save what we can.

2015 dd15, after about 4-5hrs of engine running and I make my first stop or slow to lower gear truck jumps like “I’m learning to drive stick for the first time “ only speedometer goes back and forth from 0-85 if I take my foot off pedal and reapply I get nothing, I can pop clutch to rein gauge power but it will either continue same process or finally catch and drive normal. Happens everyday, no codes, check engine comes on for 30secs or so then turns off, every now and then it will happen at high speed, also noticed my cruise control won’t work when stopped and trying to idle up, recently replaced pedal assembly but no change, any help or direction would greatly appreciated, live in Mississippi or I’d just bring it to you.👍🏽

What happened when your truck hesitates to crank almost as if you chest change your fuel filters and the fuel water separator as long as you can see fuel through the glass it cranks normal. But sometimes the fuel drops lower than usual and then it takes two seconds to crank very inconsistent.
Think there was a recall on those long time ago same series cascadia FREIGHTLINER same way found the metal shavings on filter housing around 2009!!🔧🔧

This just happened to me on my truck (2019 Freightliner) Friday. I also had to have a fuel injector replaced on the truck in November. Seems like I haven't had much luck with the fuel systems on it... But thanks for the information, this video was helpful.

Had a quick question, I have a spn 157 fmi 17 rail pressure fault. No start as well. Noticed the PLV has 212 counts so I have requested it but I'm still going to continue the diagnostic steps. Do u think the PLV could cause this fault though? The steps haven't had me check the PLV yet.

212 counts on a PLV would indicate a failure. I would troubleshoot PLV as well.

Should you buy a used freightliner that had fuel pump failure with metal shavings that made it into the fuel tank? the fuel pump was replaced, along with a flush of the fuel tanks, lines and replaced primed. It is very likely that the fuel shavings damage any more engine components besides the injectors in the future ? thanks

Ok I've got a question about a 'looping' idle that I got on my truck. I replaced the fuel pump back in November of 2019 and everything was looking and sounding nice ...until a week ago. Now it has a this looping idle with what assume is the fuel quantity valve ...I had changed that valve once before. My question is why does the fuel quantity valve fail? Bad fuel?? Bad bio-diesel?
Carbomb, I would change fuel filter and inspect fuel lines for leakage. You should not have to change PLV again if pump has been replaced. I would recommend testing the fuel system

I'm having a crank no start issue with my 2010 DD15, after changing the fuel filters & fuel/water separator it ran fine for 3 days now it won't start on it's own. It starts with starting fluid, but will not stay on nor start on it's own. I've pumped on the primer for hours & there's no pressure there as if it's sucking air.

Shirod, starter fluid could cause damage and it is not recommended. Replace fuel filters again and if problem still exist, check all fuel lines for signs of leakage.
When pull the filters out check for the little locator tab thing at the bottom of the the main filter. If that brakes off good luck getting a prime

Any recommendations for fuel additives to keep diesel from gelling in cold weather? Any issues with the DPF filter when using an additive?
Power Service. Gray bottle for year around warm, summer climates... White bottle for colder, winter climate. White prevents gelling better than gray bottle formula...Regardless of which used treat fuel ALWAYS. Not just occasionally. Power Service will not affect emissions. Instead, will improve/extend complete fuel system and engine life/operation.
Fuel quality today at many locations, is poor. Protect your engine at every fill up. But calculate quantity of Power Service used with gallons of fuel put into tanks...Don't forget to treat Reefer unit fuel also, most people forget. Until is too late.
Then must use Power Service 911 in Red Bottle. But by then, problems have already started. Treat fuel always, and there will be no issues. Live in Michigan, Power Service has been used for decades. In summer/warm climate use gray. Nov/Dec switch to white bottle until spring/warmer climate. Know where you are going, and climate conditions expected. If to be cold, Treat fuel BEFORE with white Power Service.
I’ve been looking for this answer for week now, I have 13 Cascadia dd15 after 1mil I did engine overhaul replaced turbo even though everything was still running good, but now my fuel mileage is 5.5 t at best running 65-70k lbs so was thinking replacing fuel pump as I never done it since I got this truck at 380k miles, no noise or any problems but it’s been so long so been trying to find out if I should spend $2k just in case but no luck so far.

Most of the time a vibration like that is a tire. Could have bad tire or worn from king pin or tie rob play. Once the tire is worn it’s best to replace

Happen to my first freightliner DD15 at 600k miles. MY new cascadia I put hot shots LX4 addictive in it once a week. I got 790k on this pump with no issues yet. I recommend the LX4 BY HOT SHOTS to help prevent this.
Absolutely I use this stuff too $80 for a gallon that’s treats 3200 gallons last me about 1 month totally worth it. You will not miss $80 a month if it’s going to extend the life of your fuel system don’t be cheap to your truck.

@@commonman44 ads extra lubricating to the fuel system. These modern fuel pumps are very high pressure and are designed overseas that don't have the biodiesel requirements that the US has. The US has more biodiesel content which burns well but doesn't lubricant well. SO LX4 ads lubrication extending your fuel pump life.

I'm just gonna put this out there by the time you hear a noise from the fuel pump the lobe on the cam inside the has been wearing over time so metal is in the whole system by the time you hear anything

check your tank vent hose. if 1 is plugged it will suck from only 1 tank.

Hi Sir I have a 2009 cascadia freightliner with DD15 engine and I've noticed when I start me truck it takes a few tries. Once it start I've noticed engine fault codes fluctuate. Took it to the shop and the mechanic mentioned there's metal on my Cam sensor. He think it may be coming from the gears or fuel pump. Have you ran across this issue? I thought DD15 also had a inlet fuel filter to protect and filter fuel from the tank, correct? If that's the case even if contaminates did make it back to the tanks it would be filtered out.

I have oil going into my fuel tank. From Lakeland FL to AL I used over 12 gallons of oil trying to get my truck back to the shop. Do you have a clue to what's going on bc my truck been down for two weeks and they still don't know what the problem is?

Yep rak,rak,squeak pulled into trk stop pump failure no noise during the week nothing happened that fast. This kind of repair can put a new O/O out of business quick.

@@TATEXPRESSINC just installed new fuel pump, disassembled fuel filter housing, fuel water separater flushed cleaned. Used a Camera with 8ft wire pushed it thru the fuel return line all the way to the T connector to my fuel tanks no metal shavings. Pumped fuel tanks out separating good fuel from bad cleaned bottom of tanks out. Put everything back together and crossed my fingers on my injectors. But so far as of 9am this morning truck is purring. No engine lights or error codes showing.

If diesel did not enter the oil, than you should not have to replace oil.
This happened to me yesterday. I rolled on about 200 miles with this failure. I hope my cascadia's fuel injector still good.
Probably not and you're looking about $30,000 in a Freightliner dealership to change them the injectors computer all the lines the fuel filter everything's got to be changed better yet if it still runs take it to a Volvo or International or Peterbilt Kenworth and get rid of the piece of junk while you can
I drove mine 1500 miles after finding out the pump was giving out. Was making a screeching noise. By God's grace, injectors were ok. $2200 fuel pump, $1200 fuel filter housing. Flushed out with diesel all lines and hoses. Also removed fuel tanks to get power washed twice. All in about $5500-$6000.
Don't know why they hit you up for a new fuel filter housing. They would have had to remove it to install the fuel pump; could have easily been cleaned.

How about series 60 fuel pump failure?
2010 freightliner Cascadia dd15. truck was running fine. pulled it in the shop to replace the hydraulic clutch. the pedal was staying on the floor or only coming half way up. removed transmission and replaced the clutch. reinstalled everything back on the truck and now it just cranks but wont start. there is fuel coming from fuel return line when cranking. doesnt look like any fuel is being pulled from fuel water separator. any idea what i need to do?

If you removed transmission you may have disturbed the fuel lines and may have lost prime. Have you tried to prime the system
@@TATEXPRESSINC by filling the fuel water separator bowl and using the primer pump. But not by hooking up to the compucheck fitting and forcing fuel through there.

Versace, ensure there are no fuel line restrictions or blockages. Also inspect the fuel tank breather line and ensure it is free from bends or blockage. If all fuel lines check out, then a new splitter valve may be needed.

Check for external leaks if none are found I recommend getting problem troubleshot by an experienced tech.

I was told my Fuel quantity control valve need to be replace because engine surge a little at idle. Some time when I start the engine I hear a ticking sound for a few seconds, not while engine is running. Would I be concern about the fuel pump? My engine have 614k miles.
If there is ticking before start up than it would not be the fuel pump. Changing the QCV will stop the surging. I would check fuel filter and fault history for any fuel related faults. I have seen pumps needing replacement after QCV repair.
TAT Express Inc. I’m the only owner this truck had. The surge is be happening for over a year. I notice some bubbles inside the water separator. In the summer when I keep the truck running some times I get the check engine light and the level on the fuel water separator drops, but after I restart the engine the light turn off. I get codes, never the same one, but like I said if I restart the engine and drive away they disappear. I’m taking the truck to the shop tomorrow. Thanks for your reply and keep making videos.
