10/29/21 I bought the $80 20lbs blaster just incase I did not work. Had a 2007 DD15 with a failed fuel pump and contaminated fuel system. We knew we had a lot of air in the lines and a LONG way to go, this tool worked perfectly with zero pumps. Cranked on the engine maybe 7seconds before it fired up. Very impressed! Then we had a crank no start on an Isuzu 5.2L out of curiosity we hooked this tool to that unit supplied 100psi and it started. Easy way to diagnose A failed fuel pump. Now I wish I bought the 150lb blaster lol thanks again
@@armandoargueta9712 the 150lbs came as a complete kit. The cheaper 20lbs option did not come with a gauge and I think 1 or 2 other fittings. Basically you don't get everything you see on the cover on the box.
Just built this exact set up. Truck started immediately after struggling with a non start for hours. Cummins 3376859 also works as a coupler, it will require different fittings. I even burnt through a hand primer I pumped for so long.
Using the hand primer has been working for me…I have one in our shop with fuel leaking from the block outlet feed, and it loses prime if it sits more than an hour. I came in from my weekend off and knew it wouldn’t start, so I primed it for 5mins by hand and went in and tried cracking her off for 20 seconds and it didn’t go, so let it sit about 30 seconds, tried her again, but this time with the throttle wide open, and it hesitated and burped the air and fired after about 10 cranks. Is it the correct way? Meh. It always works for me and I have never had issues with damaging anything. These ACRS systems are a nightmare to work on, especially in a 114SD with a drop axle, steer axle, and a mixer tank full of electric over hydraulic controls that also tie into the truck, right where i need to work. Fun stuff.
The hand primer pump works well in most cases, if you are changing the fuel pump or fuel injectors the. You will need something else that can push the fuel through
Does the air in the truck’s fuel system get bleed somewhere else when you’re adding that pressurized fuel from your accessory tank to the fuel system? Or is that nothing to even worth thinking about for this application?
Great video , I have a 2016 cascadia , I took my truck to the shop to get oil change and also replaced all 6 fuel injector I think that’s what it is , now my truck have a hard time to start every morning, I have to use little prime pump to get it started, what you think is wrong with my truck thanks
If they only replaced the injectors along with an oil change and you still a hard start situation, then you have air in the system or a bad injector. Are the injectors original from Freightliner/ Detroit? Or did someone rebuild them?

@@lilic724 start with checking the fuel lines, making sure they torqued correctly. Next, did you use OEM filters? Check the O-Ring on the cap, it might be pinched and allowing air into the system.

Thank you for the great informations, but I have a question, Can I suck the air out from the same fitting by using a brake bleeding kit ( I saw a mechanic doing it on a CAT engine of course not the same fitting but he sucked it out from another fuel line ) OR this fitting is just to pump fuel in the system only ????? @@CarlosDieselElectric yes my plan was to connect an air pressure hose to the brakes bleeding kit which comes with an air fitting and prime it this way, sorry for being persistent but I hate to prime it manually I did it once and it is annoying, thank you again.
Take a manual pump garden sprayer about 25 dollars at walmart. Remove the spray nozzle put a hydraulic coupler on it I did it for about 35 dollars total it doesn't take much psi just enough to push the air out of the lines
i just changed my engine with a used one, they were dd16. I have been pumping for a while and no start yet. I found this video that has promise of course long weekend here and not sure where to source that fitting. I found one on amazon but sounds like it will come from the US. Will definitely be making something to do this job if changing fuel filters is this tough.
U wont need this when changing the filters…. Just fill your separator and your filter housing the use hand pump…. I made a setup with a 5 gallon air tank to prime system after I replaced all injector cups and seals…
@@Trtrucking79 I don't have the separator but i did pump until i felt i was getting only fuel from the tank. It got pretty stiff. I'm just not sure if it I have to pump until it is to hard to press down.
@@CarlosDieselElectric well i was able to get it started just took a few more attempts. I never crank it very long between pumping. Anyway it ran but now i have no oil pressure. We switched the pickup from the old engine to the new one because the new one had a front sump and my truck has rear or middle.
I believe it would work with fittings that use that system. I have used it on Cummins ISX when we had a hard start situation and it worked. Just verify the PSI.
Carlos I watched your video I bought the tank to prime my truck DD15 since the first time I used it the truck hasn’t been able to turn on by itself anymore I have to prime it every morning to get it on what do you think is wrong with it? What could have messed up

If you are talking about the tank I use to prime. I generally fill the tank, I use air to pressurize the tank up to around 95 psi. The bottom hose at the bottom of the tank goes into the fuel filter module. I open up the valve a few times to allow the diesel to get pushed through. Just remember to have enough Diesel in the red tank as you are priming the fuel system.
Hii I am a mechanic from Uganda but i have a fuso 6r10engine as urs but these lorry failed to start cause of the too much fuel released at its return so it can only start if i block the return pipe to the tank of which destroys some fuel pipes due to high pressure with no return I have tried many release valves for it but it ends up destroying them 😢
Great question. You can use the hand pump but it would take sometime. I recommend trying to find something to help pressurize the fuel system. You need 65-90 psi to properly prime the system.
Hey Carlos do you think is possible to get a set up like this fixed to the truck? ( smaller version of course ) I was told that a 3.5 gallons sprayer works fine . Lots of shops don't have the tool and heard stories about damaged fuel pumps .

Hi Pedro, just a question, I bought a 2012 cascadia, running great, hard to start initially, but when it starts up it'll be good all day. Anyhow, one day me and driver going down the the road and I start to feel something is off, like it's staring to miss. Keep going down the road and starts making knocking noises and lots of white smoke coming from exhaust. Parked on the side of the road and had it towed, the shop still haven't had time to look at it. Engine had no blow-by whatsoever and only has 1000000km on it. It has a dpf delete on it. We have another 2016 cascadia and had it deleted and 2 months later it did the same thing, knocking and white smoke. I know it's difficult to diagnose unless u have it there but any rough ideas as to what might have caused it to go south on vacation.
White smoke can be fuel from an injector or injectors. You can perform a cut out test and see which injector might be bad. You can do it at idle or increase the rpm to 1000 to allow the needle amplification to work and perform the same test. This should help find the culprit
I am working on DD15. Replace the New fuel filter and fuel pump. I am not getting any fuel on the high-pressure line coming from the fuel pump after I crack lines to bleed air out while I crank the engine. I check Relief pressure valve on pump and fuel rail. Everything seem ok. Do you believe that it can be fuel module unit?
Any advice my truck do not work with a new fuel filter been using the same one for about 50k miles try different brands and different places and still don’t work

I use two types of pumps. One for filter changes and when I need a heavy duty pump I use the setup in the video. That I use what replace injectors, fuel pump or fuel lines. That requires more fuel PSI in order to get past the internal components in the HI pressure fuel pump. I’m glad you found another option. That is what this channel is all about. Putting out good information
Depends on what you are doing? The prime pressure has to be 95 psi when you are replacing the fuel pump, fuel lines, or injectors. If you are just replacing the filters then less pressure is needed. Fuel will always return to the tanks.
Some Freightliner Cascadia with the DD13 or the DD15 engine have the fuel water separator. The prime process is the same, you do that by connecting to the port on the side of the fuel filter module.

@@silverhook3118 the electric pump needs to be cycled a few times Open the key and let the pump work completely until it turns off. Do this a few times and you should be good to go
A few questions? What were you doing that you needed to pressurize the fuel system? Are you pushing fuel into the system? Do you have fuel in the tank?
I tried this and my fuel is going back to the tank, I’ve changed the 2 stage valve and quantity control valve but all my truck does is turn over. Somebody help I’ve been down since Nov and no shop around want to deal with dd15
It had the 2 stage system on it when I bought it, I just put a 2 stage check valve on because a mechanic told me it didn’t have enough pressure and the fuel was flowing back to the tank. I tried your method with priming and I can see the fuel is going back to the tank because my fuel level has risen. Is there something else I can try?
Is got 2 but I took the return line of the housing and try to pressurize the fuel system with the pump and is going strait out the fitting of the return line
I even took the big filter and put fuel in it and I can see it going down and coming out the return fitting going to the tank I Already change the check valve in the bottom of the housing and it still doing it
I thought you just crank and crank endlessly until the fuel pump is damaged. That's what some trucks stops will try to do to you. $300 online for a hand pump one that works perfectly.
@@whitefang1979 there is a drain almost in the middle of the fuel filter module. Just turn it and the fuel will drain. Then close it and you are ready to go.
Fill up the fuel filters and I believe you just use the small primer pump next to the primary fuel filter on the driver side. Turn counter clockwise and then begin to pump until the hand pump is hard. Then try to start it.
My injection pump gaskets were replaced but after that the truck takes longer to start. Its been running for months now. Dd15 If the pump.was installed out of timing will this cause damage?
Timing can certainly cause the issue you are having. But check the fuel lines from the fuel module up towards the pump and common rail. It is possible one of them is not seated right and maybe allowing air. This will not cause a fuel leak but may cause the hard starting situation.
The process is different. I know on the early modules it required using the fitting and opening another to allow for the air escape. Not sure if that has changed on the newer models.

Do you have part numbers for that hose and the thing that connects to actual abrasive blaster?
One way to know when the system is primed is by holding the primer line. When you stop feeling the fuel flow you know it's primed. Just a FYI...

The air will work itself out when you drive the truck. There is no bleeder valve to help. Just drive it or let it run for about an hour or so.

Yes. The bottom line was only a hose secured with a clamp so that could not hold the pressure so we had one made at a hose shop.
Did you remove the valve from bottom of tank? I just bought the same tank from harbor freight.

The fitting is to test for pressure or prime the system. I don’t believe you can remove the air from the system manually other than by pressuring it.

@@ReNeu60 if you have the the 3 filter system you might have to pump 150-200 times. Then crank it over.

NO, the ISX and PACCAR MX13 use the same fitting but I believe the procedure is different.

There is a valve on the ISX. But the ISX has a built in electronic primer pump that turns on when the key is cycled on.

I set this up and my truck is pushing pressure into the water separator and fuel tanks. Any ideas? Still no start.

That is normal to hear the fuel going into the return.

Is got 2 but I took the return line of the housing and try to pressurize the fuel system with the pump and is going strait out the fitting of the return line
I even took the big filter and put fuel in it and I can see it going down and coming out the return fitting going to the tank I Already change the check valve in the bottom of the housing and it still doing it

Go to OTC tools, they may have it. Right now many things have been on back order
I thought you just crank and crank endlessly until the fuel pump is damaged. That's what some trucks stops will try to do to you. $300 online for a hand pump one that works perfectly.
There are definitely a number of ways to get it done. Most will crank and think that is it.
Charging diesel or compressed air
Diesel, the compressed air is just to pressurize the red tank. But fuel is being pushed into the fuel system.

Would this work on a paccar?
Paccar has a different way to prime the system. Search Davco, they have a video that shows how to prime the MX engine.
How do u drain it ?
There is drain valve at the bottom of the fuel filter housing. Do you have the 3 piece or the 2 piece fuel filter?

@@whitefang1979 there is a drain almost in the middle of the fuel filter module. Just turn it and the fuel will drain. Then close it and you are ready to go.

Fill up the fuel filters and I believe you just use the small primer pump next to the primary fuel filter on the driver side. Turn counter clockwise and then begin to pump until the hand pump is hard. Then try to start it.

If the pump.was installed out of timing will this cause damage?
Timing can certainly cause the issue you are having. But check the fuel lines from the fuel module up towards the pump and common rail. It is possible one of them is not seated right and maybe allowing air. This will not cause a fuel leak but may cause the hard starting situation.

It can definitely make a loud noise. Also, check for metal shavings in small fuel filter.
Will that work for a Paccar 2024 engine? It has the same fitting and a similar duel fuel filter system?
The process is different. I know on the early modules it required using the fitting and opening another to allow for the air escape. Not sure if that has changed on the newer models.
