if there is anything as good as this, I'm yet to find it. Easily one of the best written pieces of TV ever - almost every line is perfect.

It is literally perfect. I guess it helps that there were only 14 episodes but it is perfect imo

When it first came out, some random guy on a train was recommending it to me. I remember him saying, "WATCH IT FOR THE BOSS".
When I first saw it I wasn’t aware it was a comedy show and thought it was a real documentary. I cringed with embarrassment and could hardly watch it. Then it dawned on me eventually 😂

@@Muzzy68don’t beat yourself up about it. The same thing happened with the TV critic for the Sun. It’s literally his job to review TV shows and he did the same thing. Said it was awful. The following day he apologised for missing the point entirely. 😂

These characters are so real yet so funny. Ricky and Steve are geniuses.😂
For me thats always what made it so incredibly good, you didnt need to have worked in an office to recognise all of the characters. They are all so well written, their ego's, their flaws, their need to be loved etc

To this day, it still baffles me how the board chose David for Jenny's job over Neil!
I think the same every time I watch it. In my mind, he became worse after the cameras came and his ego was off the charts
I reckon it was purely based off his branches performance, even more likely that no one on the board actually met him
@@jamespercy6753David Brent is a yes-man and won’t challenge them. Neil wasn’t, he would potentially been a threat too as he might be better than the board at running a company.
Many reasons why they would have chosen Brent
It's because 'the office' is a stitch-up. there are subtle clues throughtout. David plays up to the cameras but there's a lot of evidence that he's reasonably competent.

Dangerous office to have worked in. One of them turned up dead in his next series, another found himself in the bilge of a Caribbean pirate ship, and one became a hobbit and got into all sorts of bother.
Definitely not a safe work environment.

When I first watched this at 9:30, SBS channel on a weekday I had no idea what was going on. All I knew is that it made me feel very cringy. Over 20 years later and although I get it, it still makes me cringe. 😂
