      The content has aged poorly, relying heavily on World War II jokes from Fawlty Towers with no apparent originality. Each joke feels overused, earning it a rating of 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, with a desire to rate it even lower if possible.

    what I find most interesting about this show is how people interpret the characters so differently. Some see Brent as self serving, ignorant, egotistical others are more sympathetic, see him as just wanting to be liked etc. Also the Neil arc is interesting, how in earlier episodes he seems quite fair, charming, but later picks at David, mocking him with Chris Finch. Was that just Neil having enough of Brent's antics or was he enjoying the fall from grace?
    I don't see Lee as a bad guy either, in fact he was pretty patient around the fact Tim was after his girlfriend, I just thought he wasn't the right fit for Dawn, he was just a bloke, well meaning enough, but some make him the villain. Its pretty well done, there's no real answer, hero or villain, just a lot of grey areas. I dont think anyone was the real hero of the show personally, not even Tim who seemed to get joy from mocking a person that wasn't as socially aware or smart as he was. Just a great piece off work all round, ageless.

    • @TheRandomestRedHead
      @TheRandomestRedHead 9 месяцев назад +2

      I haven't had this verified, but I read somewhere that Ricky and Stephen's goal was always to make Lee seem like a perfectly fine guy, but just through him being out of focus and only ever showing his reactions to Tim's advances on Dawn, it ended up with Tim looking like the obvious choice to the audience. Supposedly it was never meant to be such an easy decision.

    I appreciate this particular scene where the camera pans on Brent's face, capturing the range of disappointed faces. This moment seems especially poignant for Brent, given that his sense of humor is a point of pride for him. While he may sometimes overestimate his knowledge, he's willing to concede in an argument. However, when it comes to humor, he genuinely believes he excels, often taking credit for the office banter. The revelation that Neil is now considered the funniest in the room appears to deal a blow to Brent's ego, evident in this particular scene.

      Yes, there is a strong element of pathos there. The Office is a comedy mockumentary, but also kind of a serious discourse about the types of personality involved, and a drama. His whole identity is tied up with him being the cool boss at the company he comes into every day. Even with the overly generous redundancy, he can't tear himself away, and must be forced out.
