True, but I think now I'll have to rewatch a few other personnal favourites, starting with Jen's death/"wuthering heights" épisode and also the épisode when Jen plans a dinner at home (the one with Catherine Shepherd ❤).
@@Florafly it is priceless. From that ONE lie in the toilet, to where it gets and how fast it gets there, it's just brilliant. And Roy's face says it all. He thinks of all this trouble he will be in, and that he doesn't wanna look bad. But in normal life, it'd never even reach the point of them getting in the toilet door lol. "Everything ok in there!?" "Yes it's fine, I pulled the cord by mistake, go away". But this is why life isn't hilarious. 😅
One crazy thing I notice watching this show almost 20 years after it aired is how incredible their office actually is. I know it was supposed to make fun of IT people to put them in the basement far away from the cool people upper floors. But now, as an IT myself I would give anything to exchange my crappy open space for such a cool "lair" away from anybody using excel!
when I first started working in IT back in 2010, our office was at the back of the building, next to the fire exit and the power generator. It was as messy as Roy and Moss's office. Bringing food was not allowed but since we are near the exit, we would smuggle food there
Katherine Parkinson at 23:30, brilliant acting using just her eyes! In fact, she's wonderful in The IT Crowd and in pretty much everything else she's done, a really underrated actress.
I wish I could go back to the first time I ever saw this episode when the camera pans round to moss behind the bar. Literally one of the hardest laughs I have ever had
This has to be one of the most pant-pissingly hilarious shows ever to grace TV. It starts out good, and just keeps getting better! For some reason Roy's voice spontaneously becoming an octave higher the moment he becomes "leg disabled" just makes the unfolding disaster funnier still! 🤣 And Moss behind the bar.. 😁👌
first time around on TV, I did think it was that good, but grown on me, it's level of non-funniness, part are the best, the lafter track not needed, at all?
Every moment is perfect. Even when you think it’s over Roy did a 180 flip on Jen, that had been foreshadowed in the beginning of the episode. Then the way Jen calls the taxi the same way she did when she had to run out on Peter File in an earlier episode, flawless.
The first episode I ever watched of the IT Crowd, and thank god for that moment. I've never laughed so hard in my entire life with a tv show than with this episode.
Probably the best episode of the entire series. I used to imitate Roy's "I'm a disabled" line countless times. Now I'm actually disabled and dying thanks to ALS.
One of the funniest, best written comedy TV episode ever. I always come back to watch. So clever, story, reactions, editing, acting - absolutley brilliant.
Just found this and just found I'm not alone as I so consider that THIS is the pinnacle, the Sixtine Chapel of tv comedy. It's a perfect ride that reaches its glorious peak at Jen turning around to see Moss as "staff", and when you are crying, laughing and stomach hurt, it gradually slows down but in such a brilliant way it's your cheeks that start hurting and at the end, you realise you've witnessed perfection.
This is the peak of any comedy content that has ever been witnessed It’s 100% pure genius class perfection A good laugh every 3/5 seconds all along How can someone write something like that ?????
Everyone is saying how good this episode is but each and every episode of The IT Crowd has to stand up as one of the finest achievements of British comedy to this day. A joke a minute and very much every one lands. Cannot beat it!
absolutely one of the best episodes of anything, I always laugh so much watching this whole episode its incredible. "How long have you been disabled?" "10 years?" "How did it happened if that is not a rude question?" "... Acid." "What are the chances of that happening?" "Uh .. 100 to 1."
Doesn't matter how many times I see this, I absolutely choke when it cuts to Moss behind the bar. Got to be one of the funniest moments in British tv history, they just play it out so well.
I remember being told about this episode then immediately watching it, it’s the best episode ever written, the actors are so funny too. Me and my partner of 5 years watched this on our first date 😂❤
One amazing strategy of the build in this episode is how they show glimpes of things that would make sense later, without us noticing them. In instance, at 7:17 we first see the disabled people, but little we knew how this would become a whole bit later on
One of the Greatest Comedy Episodes of ALL TIME, and my personal favourite! The first time I saw this my stomach was hurting from laughing so much! Absolute genius! And the entire show was brilliant every episode every season! Douglas and Reyhnom were also so hilarious as the two bosses! Douglas edged it as my favourite character of whole show! I had a crush on Jen too! Love redheads! So perfect show for me all round!! 😂😂😂
I watched this with my family when it aired (I had to really push for them to put it on!) but it had us all in absolute stitches and made my parents fans of the series immediately!
This episode alone is better than an entire show of new tv shows that are still on right now. Tell anyone who didn’t watch it crowd to watch this episode particularly and they will start binging. That’s how I first started to be obsessed with this show, too bad it’s not on Netflix anymore, but thank goodness the official IT Crowd channel are uploading FREE full episodes on RUclips. Thank you to anyone who give the idea to upload full episodes, you deserve a raise. This episode is work of art. From start to finish is a masterpiece. The writing is so fucking good and the build up is just pure genius. The laughing track isn’t exaggerating at all, we literally laugh the same like them and maybe more and longer. This episode is a good example on how to make an actual funny sitcom show. Sitcoms nowadays aren’t laughable and the actors look like a fool for all the effort they did to be funny, it’s just come of as cringe. The show only has 6 episodes per season for 4 seasons and one episode of the grand finale on season 5. This show just proves that to make a masterpiece, you should emphasise on quality instead of quantity, just like Fleabag, only 6 episodes long season. If the it crowd aired today, they surely will get the Emmy for direction, writing, acting and show. Pure gold and masterpiece, but it’s still a cult classic and underrated. I hope by having full episodes uploaded for free on RUclips, more people can find this show. I feel like this episode is a good introduction for the characters of the IT Crowd though, even though it was the first episode of season 2. They carefully shows the characters’ personalities and characteristics though. Anyone that hasn’t watch the show, can get a glimpse of the main characters’ characteristics and personalities though. Like at first, we can see Roy, overjoyed for winning a lottery, but lost it shortly after, just shows how he doesn’t like to work and just want to relax but expect to get something like money from something easy, lottery. Then, when Roy and Moss wants to go to the toilet, Roy makes the “easiest” decision to use the disable toilet even though Moss said it is “illegal”, then he got in way more trouble throughout the night, just because he want to go his own way. There are circumstances coming his way when he tries to avoid the long hard road and do something easy. For Moss though, you see how incredibly quirky, naive and nerdy he is. He would say things like dreaming to be in theatre but also doesn’t have the interest to even go to one. Then you could see when he was caught using the staff toilet, he just goes on and put a uniform and just work as a staff of the theatre because he lied by telling he is one and just do as he told. He even answers the gay man questions so innocently and naive. Also throughout the play, he points out every single detail about it like an intelligent critic of something he actually not interested in at all, he is just that genius and nerdy. Jen is such a hopeless romantic and positive type of person. When Roy and Moss said that Philip is gay and points out all the signs and don’t actually want to date her, she denies it and try to prove that he is straight and into her until the very end of the episode and Roy and Moss are right. And you can see how Jen is like the big sister of Roy and Moss and need to take care of them 24/7, they got themselves in huge trouble when they get away from Jen even for going to the toilet and by using their own ideas and solutions without the help from Jen. And also we could see a little of Richmond though, one of the greatest recurring character of sitcom history. Just sad that we didn’t got to see Denholm though, another fucking great character ever written.
I'm so glad that almost everyone who watched this episode agrees that it is nothing short of a marvel like seriously I have never laughed out loud so much watching anything before. I feel blessed just to have seen it
