Hey all I hope you enjoyed this! I tried to cover as much as I could for beginners in this video. Here are some clarifications and things I missed (thanks to Milli Rabbit from Discord): 1. Silver Leash is another great pull for non-wardens and DK's. 2. For attributes, I forgot to say, it's generally better to have stamina higher for synergies, so you regain that resource. 3. With over taunting - I want to be more clear on this. This can only occur when 2 or more people taunt a boss, not just by yourself. 4. And with sets, there are people that run 5 heavy 1 medium 1 light. This all depends what your build is. 5. If you are leveling a tank make sure to slot some dps abilities because it will be a nightmare if you don't Let me know if you have any tips in the comment section! You all are amazing, and have a great day!
For anyone who is just now coming to this guide, Frost magic has recently gone through a bunch of changes and heavy attacking with an ice staff will no longer taunt just a quick FYI
@@megnaan for a tank yes its pointless, but you can still use clench on the ice bar if u want a taunt on both bars (assuming ur going s&b / ice staff). (I'm fine with just the pierce on my front bar)
I am a much older player(gramma). ESO is the first game I've ever played. I am slow and deliberate as I learn the keyboard. Tank has been a great build to learn on because it's hard to orient in a dungeon with bifocals lol! You can just stay on task while others flit around. Its taken 2yrs to get to cp360 lol. I love it! This is very helpful. Thank you! I just got the ebon set last night on your recommendation! I've so wanted those floating red things❤
I just started tanking and I'm still not to 50. It's frustrating in early dungeons because people don't really need a tank. They always run ahead. So, it's hard to learn. That probably contributes to a lack of tanks, too. If you don't feel supported or needed in the group.
It's a goofy irony to that. See, people will complain no matter what. When they aren't complaining, they're boasting. Either you're wrong for tank queuing on a dps on easier dungeon, so they'll complain... ignore them. If you're actually a tank they'll run ahead and boast how they don't need a tank... ignore them here too. Wait for the moment when they're ego is repaid with a quick death. Even the final bosses in Fungal Grotto I and Spidleclutch I will annihilate a careless dps on hardmode. And it's always funny. See... tanks make things so easy for dps that they forget the importance of basic game mechanics. Block, roll dodge, interrupt. Bosses ignore aggro and target anyone standing too far away. Bosses ignore aggro and try to execute dps with low health. The mechanics are basic in the base dungeons. It's more about learning tricks to tanking these dungeons than mechanics. Like the best place to pull a boss. The dlc dungeons all have walk through videos. One of the best ways to learn good tanking techniques is to play as dps or healer and watch how other tanks do things. I've learned some of the best techniques from just watching other tanks do their thing. After 3 years of tanking I still love learning something new from watching other tanks even in the baby dungeons.
Just watched his video and I want to try being a tank. I didn't hear him mention what race and class make best take before I start build. I am currently high elf dk doing dps CP250. Do you have any suggestions since you seem to care about playing the role? Any advice is appreciated.
@@carnivoredietmike6078 he has other videos going into a bit more detail but iirc, the overall best tank races were orc, nord, and dark elf? I could easily be wrong about that
YES! i just had that in my first 5 tank dungeon runs. everyone just legged it past the mobs and dived into the boss before i could taunt or aggro. bit annoying from a learning pov but at least they went fast! easy xp (im only lvl25)
This was exactly what I was looking for! I have seen so many "tanking beginner guides" that basically just go over what skills to buy, Champion points, armor sets... and don't actually talk about what a tank is doing moment-to-moment. As a newer player to ESO and a brand new tank, I think what I need to find now, is a video where a tank just breaks down moment-to-moment a gameplay video of a dungeon run. I need to see what abilities and attacks they use, with some explanation of why they used that instead of another ability. For example, you talked about not over spamming abilities, but you didn't talk about what to do in between abilities. Such as, am I just light attacking between abilities? Heavy attacking to get back some stamina? Like I'm talkin I literally don't know what to do from one moment to the other as the tank, outside of taunting.
Besides taunting the enemy you need to stack them all up together (so the AoEs of your DDs get them all) and buff your team mates/debuff the enemy. Another important thing is staying alive (sounds stupid but you'd be suprosed how many "pros" or high cp tanks die to a normal dungeon boss and flame to the DD that they don't do enough damage bc they as tank can only survive like 5 seconds without constat heal from the healer) and inbetween your skills yes you should do light/ heavy attacks to get resources back TL;DR Taunt and stack enemys, buff/debuff, self heal and sustain

When we argued back that we had no problem at all as a full group with lower level tank and overall less DPS (one of our DDs left earlier and he isn't that good with gaming so even if I'm a lower CP than him I get more damage) he just said that in vrteran you need more DPS or you can't do it blah blah blah while dying 2 more times when he just ran through every enemy and was WAY out of the healers reach... on a normal Dungeon which made every of his arguments invalid to us because he was talking about veteran when he could even stay alive on normal... as a tank... I started tanking not too long ago after playing strictly dps and I am having more fun than ever. I get to think about fights more tactically and mechanically, and feel more accomplished after an encounter due to thinking more critically about what I was doing and what was going on the entire fight rather than just spamming a dps rotation. It is scary knowing that the success of a high level encounter rides on you knowing mechanics and how to stay alive while doing your job, but I think that just adds to the fun and will increase your knowledge of the game more than you think.

Coming from playing as Tank in mmo's like TERA and BnS end games, Tanking was so underwhelming in ESO for me, i immediately got put-off. Main reason probably was the choppy animations of single hand weapons, and the general sense of disconnect in ESO melee combat. Also Tanking in ESO felt like a resource management mini-game rather than actually fighting/tanking a boss. But as someone who loves to Tank, your video made me consider giving tanking in ESO one more go. Thanks for the video.

Great beginner tanking video. I'm really trying to improve my tanking skills to be a more experienced player. I will be studying your videos. Thank you!
This is the first MMO, where I have loved tanking and healing. I would rank Tanking the the more difficult, then DPS, then healer. Like it stress me out, lol. Though it is so engaging and satisfying. Even after I hit lvl 50, I think I'll stay in normal dungeons for a long time just to get everything down.
Just started my tank , i used to think Tanks were useless because I didn't know what they did. But now that I'm finally tanking I've noticed how useful and necessary a tank is. Thank you for this video !!!
This is a great video, I hope as much people see it a possible - we need more tanks! If you are thinking about tanking, just do it - it's pretty simple, yet very satifying.
I played my DK as a dps through the story and until level 50, but afterwards I really wanted to give tanking a shot. I usually play tanky characters in mmos and other games, and I like playing a supportive role in groups, so I'm going to throw my lot in with the under supported tanks lol. Also the queue times are literally instant for dungeons lol. Not waiting 5 minutes like when I was a dps.
best tip for people that has tank anxiety, just do it. tell the group beforehand, that you're a learning tank and/or you still leaarning the mechanic. also, try to level with dungeon queue as much as you can.
After using it quite alot, i feel like Knight-Errant's Mail set is also a good set to run with. Saved my ass alot when a healer died and i had to stall for time and self heal while one of the dps picked up the healer
Had to come here to see if ive been tanking right. I be having 50k hp and like 30k hp in shields that im usually able to constantly refresh when ever it depletes. I feel very helpful and fights, especially after i solo'd a boss once as a level 47 and my allies were cp level 500 and 700. The boss would randomly attack them and deal HUGE damage, and then without me taunting it again it would run back to me. Was crazy long fight but i won and they cheered
I kind of wish tanking was more fun in this game. There's always a tank scarcity in MMOs but in this game I simply don't find it enjoyable. You can hold aggro on a single target effectively most of the time. And the way targeting is and just random other things that can being annoying tracking that timer in the midst of it. I don't know I guess WoW spoiled me in the tanking department, I like being able to hold aggro on any threat, I feel like that's my job. Having to range pull shit one at a time, rotate around the resources, cycle that single target taunt is just some tedious stuff to me. Not saying they have to go carebear WoW with it but something different.
Same. I was a wow raider, and it’s been a few years. Got a ps5 and started this week. First dungeon last night and we got through it. But I was kindof confused.
Love your content. Just started a week or two ago. Sitting at level 31? Just trying to get my stables and daily dungeons when i can after work. Since 3-4 levels i've respec'ed to Tank Warden to try understand the role and all. It's a journey haha. I don't have the resources to have too much set ups yet so doing damage while questing is now a pain xD Can't wait to get to later game content and be able to gear/craft and shit. Meanwhile I'm trying to learn mechanics and all I guess. I def need to start crafting/enchanting, I still don't like/know much about this.
To anyone just starting, some of the information on this video is outdated, but the basics are pretty much the same. Taunts have changed now that we are in the Necrom chapter.
I've been said that ppl were expecting from the HEALER to buff or debuff the team. But I think that is mostly a tank job. Even if HL can have 1 or 2 support skills, I'm pretty sure it'd be useless if those are the same as the TK 🤷🏼♂️
Because it's not fun and boring for them.... *Way to much* responsibility and things to learn than it's worth! If you make a mistake you're instantly booted out. Also most people play solo anyways which make tank/healer builds even more useless for them.
Im up to cp50, started a couple weeks ago with a friend. He went healer, so i went tank, so we could have fast queue times. Its about damn time I look up how to tank lol. But im glad to see im essentially doing it right. I got the inner rage, i got my pierce armor, and I try to bring mobs to the ranged mobs to get em all grouped up. I keep adds away from certain bosses and keep em busy while taunting the boss from range, if that boss calls for ignoring mobs. I keep the boss facing me away from my allies so the aoes dont hit em. I just wonder about my rotations and skill set up and if tanks in this game are supposed to have some decent dps. It seems im doing it right though, as dps is my lowest priority. I got the shadow cloak morph for self heal, as well as the siphon ability on my swap bar, just in case my healer doesnt cut it. But I also like to solo so I started swapping to bow for aoe stuff when im soloing. So im probably not really optimized fully, and i do have resource problems because of switching to bow sometimes to put out more dps. Im learning though, and as I get into veteran dungeons im swapping to bow less to save stamina for blocks and break free. Should I use bone wall, or unstoppable? I use neither as of right now just because of limited slots and wanting to be able to solo without completely reworking everything when switching to solo content from dungeons.
actualy tanking in eso feels strange at first but if you ever tanked in any other mmo on higher doffoculties its damn easy in eso just having ppl. not run out of posotion is a prob bc too many dds just run arround like headless chickens
I have tried to DPS and it feels foreign & wrong. I have always hated playing a mage so healing is out. Tank is what I always gravitate to. It makes sense to me. It's comfortable, natural. ESO is no exception. You know how Skyrim everyone becomes a stealth archer? In MMO I always become a tank.
What's the best class for buffs and debuffs for tanking it seems that's key as well as the taunts. I'm used to playing dps with my dark elf. I do like tanking and have done it in other games just looking for a start.
My same friend who shits on me for my low Tank damage output is the guy who dies in 3 hits while I sit there regening faster than I take damage. People really sleep on the importance of tanks.
Question shouldn’t plague doctor be used over Ebon armory?? Cause you mentioned end game when talking about Ebon armory but not plague doctor. I’m a noob btw, trying to learn the game.
Very helpful video, thanks! As a newish player, is developing a tank build viable for levelling? Or do you need to level as DPS and respec at level 50 (or higher?)?
As and experienced player I would say make a dps for clearing content and being able to hunt down the necessary gear for your tank. While saying that you can play a tank class and still make a dps and re-spec later. For example you could make a DK (dragon knight) dps build up to cp160 to help you get gear and clear content (hard to clear solo content as a straight tank build) and then re-spec your skill, attribute and champion points into a tank build.
How does your hud look so different please bro I see a few videos with the hud like this it kind of looks old school does anyone know how to do this or if it's just for pc please?
Tanking in this game isnt too complicated, it really is just given a bad rep because of the amount of dps players who both cant play the game and will queue as a tank to get a faster queue. There needs to be a way to prevent DPS from fake tanking and causing a group to have a bad experience
Never met a tank or a healer who were incompetent. If they have difficulties, you just explain de mechanics. And it's true, rarely but surely I group with some dps who queue as tank or healer and that thick me off a lil' bit.
"learn the mechanics" is 100% the thing that puts most players off the Tanking Role. ESO has too much Dungeons, too much Bosses, too much mechanics. Its very hard for a casual to remember everything. And thats coming from someone who Tanks MMOs for 20 years now. I dont do it in ESO because its just too much. Plus there is no good Dungeonhelper-Addon in this game.

@@Sergeant_samuraI Eso does feel completely different and tanking is a lot different than ff14. If you love story and want something to enjoy and spend a lot of time on this is the game for you
A beautifully prepared, detailed and successfully narrated video. Thanks for your effort. It helped a lot.
It is scary, complicated, and overwhelming. That is the fun of it :D
Just started playing eso, coming from ff14 and its hella fun!! Still learning tho
And when people call you out for being a bad tank that's when you stop and the community complains about lack of tanks.
This is so true
when you wear alkosh and you get 0 synergies is pug life.
Great beginner tanking video. I'm really trying to improve my tanking skills to be a more experienced player. I will be studying your videos. Thank you!
Thanks for this mate. A lot of useful stuff!
I didn't know I shouldn't have a rotation, great video!
Thanks. I just levelled one tank to 50. Still feel like a beginner and this guide helps. Going to make some adjustments the next time I tank.
I'm very new like, just started my character yesterday so this is very helpful
This is the first MMO, where I have loved tanking and healing. I would rank Tanking the the more difficult, then DPS, then healer. Like it stress me out, lol. Though it is so engaging and satisfying. Even after I hit lvl 50, I think I'll stay in normal dungeons for a long time just to get everything down.
Just started my tank , i used to think Tanks were useless because I didn't know what they did. But now that I'm finally tanking I've noticed how useful and necessary a tank is. Thank you for this video !!!
What’s the best tank class?
12:07 As the tank, you're the deleter of the group! :D
This is a great video, I hope as much people see it a possible - we need more tanks! If you are thinking about tanking, just do it - it's pretty simple, yet very satifying.
Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I'm learning to tank in ESO and this helped simplify it a lot.
Love this video, I keep coming back to this video because I just created a tank. Good video!
Just started, loving your guide
Great guide thanks. Already getting compliments for tanking correctly.
Love playing a tank!
Geat video, as always. Just started a 2nd toon as a tank and this was really helpful.
best tip for people that has tank anxiety, just do it. tell the group beforehand, that you're a learning tank and/or you still leaarning the mechanic. also, try to level with dungeon queue as much as you can.
I felt this everyone gets this
After using it quite alot, i feel like
Knight-Errant's Mail set is also a good set to run with. Saved my ass alot when a healer died and i had to stall for time and self heal while one of the dps picked up the healer
Loved the vid as tank is my favourite role. Could you add add another video thi this series "Beginners solo guide in ESO"
So I have a solo guide in the channel but maybe I could do a variation of that
@@Adam_Lutz Yeah that would be cool
Had to come here to see if ive been tanking right. I be having 50k hp and like 30k hp in shields that im usually able to constantly refresh when ever it depletes. I feel very helpful and fights, especially after i solo'd a boss once as a level 47 and my allies were cp level 500 and 700. The boss would randomly attack them and deal HUGE damage, and then without me taunting it again it would run back to me. Was crazy long fight but i won and they cheered
I love tanking. Pretty much all I do
I kind of wish tanking was more fun in this game.
Nice Video! Can you suggest some dungeons that is more forgiving and I can try out to tank??
Good video but a tank that protects the team from dying with shields and heals is alot better the alot of dead dps. My toughts ofc.
Thank you for this!
This video will help me improve so much good job 😁😁😁
I've been said that ppl were expecting from the HEALER to buff or debuff the team. But I think that is mostly a tank job. Even if HL can have 1 or 2 support skills, I'm pretty sure it'd be useless if those are the same as the TK 🤷🏼♂️
I love playing a tank the most! I don’t understand why more people don’t play tanks! LOL! I loved your video. Very informative!
Because it's not fun and boring for them....
*Way to much* responsibility and things to learn than it's worth! If you make a mistake you're instantly booted out.
Also most people play solo anyways which make tank/healer builds even more useless for them.
Awesome video! 👍👍
Great guide!
What is the outfit? Love the aesthetics of this build
Would like to hear that as well, looks pretty nice. And thanks for the nice guide as well ;-)
it's the one you get from purchasing greymoor collector, shoulders are silver dawn
Seems like you need to have a robust majika pool due to the Ice Staff of your choice.
Great guide m8
It was really helpful....
But what motif is that... You look like an godlike Viking
I am having more fun tanking when I figured out the ice staff back bar
Thanks!
Please Do a Healer guide
That’s next
I would love to be a tank.
amazing video
actualy tanking in eso feels strange at first but if you ever tanked in any other mmo on higher doffoculties its damn easy in eso just having ppl. not run out of posotion is a prob bc too many dds just run arround like headless chickens
my build is a practically immortal vampire blood knight that can solo boss fights and win through attrition
What is the armor style or costume?
I want to know as well!
very helpful, thanks :)
Great now I wanna make a tank 💪
"Don't just hold block all the time"
Me who always holds block and it works every time (even raids) oooops xD
I have tried to DPS and it feels foreign & wrong. I have always hated playing a mage so healing is out. Tank is what I always gravitate to. It makes sense to me. It's comfortable, natural. ESO is no exception. You know how Skyrim everyone becomes a stealth archer? In MMO I always become a tank.
Do you have video for vet dungeons
Sets
And how do you get all adds on you
What's the best class for buffs and debuffs for tanking it seems that's key as well as the taunts. I'm used to playing dps with my dark elf. I do like tanking and have done it in other games just looking for a start.
My same friend who shits on me for my low Tank damage output is the guy who dies in 3 hits while I sit there regening faster than I take damage. People really sleep on the importance of tanks.
Aggro is random I have aoed a mob and they run to other players randomly even if they are not doing anything
Do you guys have a ps4 guild mate ? New to the game and I like your vids
I feel like I would be a better tank then dps.. I suck at doing a rotation 😂
Try healing out, I love it in this game plus nearly instant queues
Mostly discouraged after watching this! Might go back to gw2, fck the holy trinity.
Question shouldn’t plague doctor be used over Ebon armory?? Cause you mentioned end game when talking about Ebon armory but not plague doctor. I’m a noob btw, trying to learn the game.
Cp611...have a healer and 4 dps...still dont the balls to tank. I need to break that fear.
Very helpful video, thanks! As a newish player, is developing a tank build viable for levelling? Or do you need to level as DPS and respec at level 50 (or higher?)?
Follow-up question: Are the default build guides useful for early game?
As and experienced player I would say make a dps for clearing content and being able to hunt down the necessary gear for your tank. While saying that you can play a tank class and still make a dps and re-spec later. For example you could make a DK (dragon knight) dps build up to cp160 to help you get gear and clear content (hard to clear solo content as a straight tank build) and then re-spec your skill, attribute and champion points into a tank build.
what add on is that that tells you to block?
hey what's the name of the shoulders that you have that look like a wolf
What about beginning skills???
So I notice you're running a Warden. Does your race and class play a significant difference?
How does your hud look so different please bro I see a few videos with the hud like this it kind of looks old school does anyone know how to do this or if it's just for pc please?
Nightblade tanks forever 🥰
Yes they are awesome
I've probably gotten more compliments while playing on my nightblade tank than any other tank that I have.
Dunno if anyone has played Albion, it's known for being ruthless on tanks and healers... Is ESO harder? Just so I get a reference
What motif is that?
I've wanted to play ESO for a while now but the whole pricing and DLC structure on steam leaves me confused.
Just buy the base game and get ESO+ - don't worry about buying chapters because they become DLC eventually which you get in ESO+
Second day with tank and I agree this red orbs from ebony set are .......
Sexy😄
What is the addon that shows when to block etc?
Ack if I watch the video to the end I get my answer sorry for the noise
Great video
Plague doctor is actually good asf
6:20 xD dieing
I just started playing this and I am wanting to play a nord sword and board tank. This game is confusing for me so I wanted to ask if someone could Point me to a build that is meant for beginners and leveling. I would appreciate it
I sincerely don't understand why every youtuber says to wear ebony or worm when the buff is only 100 recovery buff, that is literally nothing.
Its really odd to me that people state that eso doesnt have a threat system and then just describe how eso uses a threat system.
Lol Im sure he knows what he’s talking about but I literally can’t get over “clannifer”
NO , MUST FACE TANK ALL DMG jk good vid lol
