Only unfair thing he did was disable your skyward strike. If you ask Fi for advice she’ll directly tell you that Demise put a magical barrier in place so you couldn’t skyward strike. (In the remake version idk about the original). Though I do agree, I loved how he gives you a moment to prepare. Though I think it’s mainly done out of cockiness. One other thing I love about ghirahim fights is the player/link's progression. I imagine first time players are just getting the hang of the motion controls, but are hardly experts. The fact that ghirahim in phases one and two can steal your sword if you get caught in his defense too long is a brilliant moment of fear and confusion as you feel totally powerless. By the second fight the player has gotten to a point where the fight is challenging, but you're more on equal ground. By the end you feel like a master as you've slaughtered around a hundred bokoblins and are now overwhelming him as you as a player have mastered the blade.

Jump onto his head *while he's walking upright* and just hit the pillar into his head that way. Use a single down swing then do a spin attack downward, that'll make the fight a lot quicker.

@@ChaosCat942 : Yeah, Ghirahim is an excellent example of what I like in a villain with a crazy personality: A weird or wild exterior, but with the skill and brutality to BACK IT UP.
I can never really get into villains when I feel like I'm expected to be so afraid of this weird/wacky/sly/cutesy character that only ends up being a threat because the story says so. Whether it's BS magic, lots of goons or tech to do the work for them, or some other reason why the plot says they get to do whatever they want, it just falls flat when it feels like they aren't genuinely smart or tough enough to back up their (usually) overconfident attitude, and ending them feels less like a satisfying victory than finally crushing an annoying bug. That feeling generally bleeds into their actual boss fights too, making them more annoying than intimidating to deal with.
Ghirahim is an example of this done RIGHT. His battle animations really sell his skill and make him feel like a threat. His character can turn on a dime from flamboyance to business and even feels convincing when he's in his early phases and just toying with Link. Which the fairies still tick me off but whatever.) I also don’t recall any sort of criticism for TP being “creepy”-and if anything, Zelda being tortured and crying out in pain is by far more disturbing than fighting poes and demons on TP (or the infamous cutscene with falling laughing Ilia which is more trippy than anything.)

I find it interesting that Demise uses lightning the same way that Link uses the energy of the goddess/master sword. It gives the lightning you see from Breath of the Wild’s Calamity Ganon more significance, and also makes sense that the golden enemies from BotW say they gained this new form after being struck by lightning. They’re clearly connecting the two ideas.

It's cool to learn the Ghirahim & Imprisoned fights can be done in different ways. I always just hacked away at the toes until it fell and didn't know you could just jump on top of him. On the final stage of Ghirahim, you can stun him by swatting his sword three times to the left making him "drop" it and then attack. And against his big sword I kept having a hard time doing "enough damage quickly" until I realized you can strike it slowly in the proper direction (there's literally an arrow highlighting where to strike) and be more effective.

Strangely enough, despite how anti-climactic Tentalus is after that entire dungeon, it's one of my favourites. The game very simply teaches you how to defeat the tentacles, provides what feels like a high-pressure situation of fleeing the sinking ship, before you finally get out on the deck and have to use what you've learned to defeat it. it may not be particularly challenging for a boss(hence why I always choose it first during the boss rush) but it does a great job of introducing the mechanic and then letting you have at it. It could do with looking or feeling scarier after that run through the ship, but overall, I like Tentalus a lot.

I guess that's the problem. When one thinks about Zelda bosses, one would not think about ghibli monsters. Usually the bosses are more grim looking and much more creative from a design point. Off course there are some bosses who fall flat on their asses (like tentalus aka "the Monsters Inc. lady" or that amorphous blob from OOT in the water temple) but still, a firey ball isn't what I would call a memorable boss. Even the boss fight is extremely easy and that only helps making the boss forgettable.

I personally don't think his design is bad, he just feels like a mid dungeon boss. He also doesn't look overly threatening for a dungeon boss. I think that was a big turn off for me for skyward sword is that it's trying to be cartoonie but handles darker more "realistic" moments so much better than it does the goofy. It creates a polarizing feeling of not understanding the tone they were going for.
especially when we already had windwaker that handles it better as it keeps it's tone consistent, keeping a fun and silly surface with some dark undertones.

I feel like a lot of great ideas were unfortunately ruined because Nintendo didn't _want_ to take them seriously. In their lingering desire to market the Wii to everyone while sales were beginning to decline, they were skeptical of making anything too unsettling, and felt the need to balance anything frightening with something goofy... Or at least that's my theory. Maybe some people preferred that, but the more dedicated Zelda fans mostly end up feeling let down by how epic the fight could have been.
I just wonder what Tentalus or the Imprisoned would look like if they were designed during the development of Twilight Princess, when Nintendo aired on the side of taking it more seriously. I suppose it just shows how TP and SW represent two different sides of the Zelda series despite their similarities.

It's dark sure, in terms of colour pallet, and there are some relatively bleak scenes like the resistance and so on, but with a couple of minor exceptions, there was nothing that really got the heart going. For me, the scariness peaked with OOT. MM was creepy and disturbing at times, but more in the "OMG this is awesome" way, rather than the "OMG I can't bare to look in the next room" way.

to be fair, it is nothing new to the series. It is easy to forget that the staple enemies like darknuts often serve as minibosses long before they become abundant, high tier enemies one rank below miniboss. Heck, WW has moblins as a "boss" due to their appearance in dragon roost cavern, but by the time the master sword is in play, they become the second most dangerous reoccurring enemy, just behind darknuts who also act as the miniboss of the tower of gods. Then look at minish cap's approach to bosses. Every single boss in a dungeon you have to enter in minish form is just a regular enemy that needs to be fought in a new way with the shrinkage of link and his sword.

Then LBW and LttP has a genbu (turtle mixed with snake) that almost looks the same. Either way, my point was thatMolarach is nothing new in terms of reoccurring boss within it own game. Personally, my fave boss fights are Ghirahim's, since he's my fave character in the game, but the order might not seem usual. You'd assume the least favorite is the 1st, then the 2nd, then the best being the 3rd.
My order is actually 1 being the fave, 3 being the 2nd and 2 being the least favorite.
The 1st fight is my favorite because when I first played it, I was freaked out and his personality was both awesome, but unsettling enough to make me run away from him for most of the fight, so it really made the character stick in my mind for the rest of the game. The 3rd is my next favorite because I finally got to see his final form (aside from his form where he's just a blade, but a form that can actually move and talk) and it provided a really cool fight on top of that, but his personality wasn't as freaky to me as it was before. His 2nd fight is my least favorite of his fights, but my 3rd favorite in the game over all because 2 blades. That's it. 2 blades at once, showing that he can use both hands equally in a fight, so it shows that if he lost a hand or arm for whatever reason, he'd still be a really good fighter compared to someone who can't really work well with their non dominant hand. Which kinda made me relate to him a bit because while my left hand is considered my dominant hand, I prefer to use my right hand for the physical things such as throwing balls while my left is mainly used for writing and drawing, but can still be used for more physical activities pretty well if my right arm gets tired.
So, unfortunately, the battle with demise isn't in my top 3, but at least he's my 4th. Ghirahim makes *all* of my top 3 because of how his character stuck with me, so I just enjoyed getting to see him on screen at all, so when I fought him, he stayed on the screen longer on top of giving a good fight.

I think the guardians might have a Koloctus reference. Every time you kill a guardian, you can hear a quiet laugh as they explode, which is similar to the laughter you hear when Koloctus is defeated.

I really liked the epic feel of the bilocyte boss. Personally would have ranked it higher. The sword duel against Demise is also epic, and the cistern is excellent. They are still higher. But flying after a whale in a thunderstorm seems like perfect Skyward Sword action to me.

Something I love about each Skyward Sword Boss Battle I’ve done:
Ghirahim 1: Perfect starting boss, if only incredibly difficult for most people the first time. The sword-stealing ability was a nice, new ability that totally threw new players off. It was pretty hard to avoid often, especially on Wii.
Scaldera: Basically King Dodongo but ROCK. What sets the two apart though is that with King Dodongo, he swallows a mob and then you just slash, but you have to actually aim your strikes at Scaldera whilst trying to not get burned.
Moldarach: Blasting away the floor to find him is good, but I really loved the defensive mechanisms of his weak spots the most. Between closing the pincers, changing their position and just snapping at you or hiding before you can get a hit in is fun.
Koloktos: Honestly, ny favourite battle. The fact that your own sword is TOO WEAK to fight this colossal golem is amazing, and you have to rip off his limbs and use his own weapons against him is just incredible.
Ghirahim 2: Not that different to 1, only he can now grab your sword with either hand. What I love most is that you can’t just hack and slash anymore since his extremities are now invincible. Makes you focus a lot more on the fight.
Tantalus: He was…pretty underwhelming. That’s not really an interesting or unique thing I like about him, he’s just sort of this big monster that you chop limbs off. I guess the tentacles through the floor was pretty good.
Imprisoned 1: A nice shock to the system, having to fight this huge kaiju-esque monster that emits shockwaves with each step and slithers like a nightmare when you knock it down. Pretty easy, but a nice combat system.
Imprisoned 2: Basically Imprisoned 1 but with ARMS. This f*cker can now climb the fricking walls. Best part of this battle is Groose. It relies a lot on coordination between Link and Groose to defeat it, and I love the switching mechanics.

Absolutely love the countdown as usual but I gotta say the highlight of this for me is finding out that you play Genshin Impact ! that's so exciting, i'm so used to zelda fans dismissing it as a 'clone' without properly looking into it. which is a shame, because it truly is candyland for people (like myself) who loved the open-world, exploration aspect of botw so much. are there any chances you might make some videos about the game in the future ? 👀

    Spoiler for Skyward sword:
At the end of the game, Fi says "the remaining conscious of Demise has been sealed in the Masters Sword"
Maybe that's why ganon's malice targeted the Masters Sword in the 2nd trailer of botw2, since in botw, its already confirmed that Fi still resides in the master sword

I played the game on its release on Wii. I found the Demise fight a little bit underwhelming because I was expecting an epic showdown like the one against Ganondorf on Twilight Princess. That fight had 4 stages, and one was while riding on Epona, another as Wolf Link, it really couldn't get any more epic than that.

Koloktos is definitely the best. I think there was room to do much more with Demise. While he looks great and the setting is tremendous, the final battle is much, much too short. Should have been multi-phased like the battle with Ganondorf in Twilight Princess, taking in various parts of the discovered areas of Hyrule, with Demise even using the Time Gate to go forward in time when he recognises that Link will no go down easily.

It was to push the Wii controls and it was for the most part built around that. Also the second stick on the switch is why they can do a button only control.
