Great to see you again, Kevin! As always, you knocked it out of the park. This is easiest , best CAGED explanation I've seen to date as I've seen countless CAGED system vids which are word salads and hard to follow. Those dots and graphics are key for those who are visual learners, and for beginners. As a former video editor, I can honestly say your videos are well done. Please keep up the great work! And remember, consistenty is key for a growing channel. Peace.
Great video. Cant wait to come back to this in 6 weeks when i finish this chord change. In all seriousness - i really appreciate the channel. Its so rare to get concise information delivered by a real human.
Before this video, I thought the Caged system was the phenomenon that takes place when you go afk leaving your computer unlocked, which creates the perfect opportunity for a malicious third party to install the browser extension that replaces all images with the face of Nicholas Cage. Thanks for the clarification, Kevin!
Sir, thank you so much for the great effort you are putting in explaining all the awesome info, and big shout out to your friend Dylan , I'm new to my guitar learning journey and I'm very excited to learn from your channel. Thank you so much 💗
the dots are really helpful! it significantly reduces the time and effort needed to identify the fret position and string.. it's really one of the features that makes your video stand out among the vast numbers of other guitar instructional videos (and also how you present the information).. even though it's labour intensive, please keep it up! your videos are really helpful in my restarting my guitar journey =) onward and forward!!
Thanks Kevin. Your video on the caged system is so well (and simply) explained! When I heard the term "The Caged System" I was intimidated by the name. You break it down so that it is easily understood - even when you drop in some music theory notes. I have not yet listened to a video of yours that hasn't taught me something, and sometime a lot of things! I am so glad that I found the first video of yours "What To Learn on Guitar in Order". Keep 'em coming! Thanks a ton.
Dude, I'm a 56 year old learning guitar. This is best explanation of this I have seen. You just made me have a major break through with the idea of how the notes move up and down the neck.
dudeee I missed you, started playing with your map of how to learn the guitar had a lot of fun. When I reached the section "this is where most get a teacher" I got a teacher and kinda lost the focus I had, nice seeing more videos from you. a lot of love
I like the new space, it looks like the top room of a house I almost moved into in Portland. Heads up, not sure what you've done to anger Papa Goog, but I didn't see this video or the last one in my feed despite subscribing, and thumbs upping most of your videos.
Thanks for the great video. Would it be possible for you to include some practice tips or ideas for these concepts in the video? Also for other videos. It would be super nice to first watch this video and then grab the guitar and know exactly what I could practice.
Question...why does the C shape make F major available in the A minor pentatonic scale? Just curious how you would use the CAGED system for chords other than these 5? Great video by the way! I've subscribed and I can't wait to explore more of your tutorials!
Correct me if I'm wrong but when playing in the C chord on the 5th fret did you mean to add the blue dot on A? If so could you kind of explain why? I figure it's because its in the scale of a minor but then that kind of confuses me if your trying to play in the chord of C. Great video btw! helped clear up a lot of questions I had.
You guys still follow his playlist? Im starting and im about to follow it, i know he uploaded that 1 to 10 roadmap but I think that's more of a framework so I think I'll do the playlist and use that video as a checklist
If you are soloing in a minor scale, is it typical to lift the 6th and 7th to make it melodic, or does this only make chord matching more difficult when it comes to arpeggios?
might be a stupid question. how did you know to use the a minor pentatonic to accompany the C & F strumming pattern? What if the song was C, AM, F then G. Do you have a video on rules to follow or advice on how to solo, using the scales we learnt to songs?
Thank god for that. Everyone talks about the positions and shapes without saying why those notes fit over the respective chords. Another ‘aha’ moment. Thank you for your time making this. Subbed.
I am feeling CAGED. Just kidding. I love bar cords. I like TABs and fret board diagrams of your finger placements. I understand we are using their shapes but your fingers looked like they were in a different position when you played the CAGED G or C.
Waaaiiiittt a sec. Something's fishy here. If chords are made up of 1-3-5 of whole notes, then D should be D-F-A, but the notes for a D chord are D-A-D-F#. Using the F whole note would turn it into a D-minor. Why is this? What am I missing?
@@kevinnickens oh! oh! So I'm not counting whole notes apart, I'm counting scale notes apart. And if, say, I'm playing a B7, then that 7 comes from the 7th note of the ionian scale. Have I got it?!
@@kevinnickens Awesome awesome! Thanks so much for helping me understand the use of the scale numbers (and chord names). Now I gotta actually practice the scales. haha.
the dots are really helpful
Nice, thanks for the feedback
@@kevinnickens They were STUPID helpful. Please keep it up.
Your channel is so much better than others in this plarform! Keep up the good work ❤

You’re close! You forgot the sharps in the key of D major, which are F# and C# so when you would normally encounter an F, you change it to an F#
