Well that saved me from being stuck in a store parking lot. Called dodge about the recall and they said no parts available to fix it yet so basically your on your own.
unseenwon the exact same thing happened to me. Store parking lot and everything. Called dodge and they told me I needed to buy a whole new transmission switch for 220$ which is bs. I’m trying to order a new grommet for mine cause just putting it back on isn’t working it won’t stay on.

Glad I came across this. My daughter's 2013 Dart SXT was stuck in reverse at the store and after a quick search I found this video. I was able to reach under the battery and get it connected back in order for to drive home and then to the dealer the next day. FYI...it's a short term fix to just reconnect if the bushing is broke like her's was, as it will simply come loose again after you hit a bump or something As mentioned it was under a recall and dealer repaired it for free the following day. Thanks again!!!
Nice to see that im not the only one having this issue with my dart! however I have taken it to the dealership and gotten the recall and it is still doing it and they say since they already replaced the .88 cent bushing that it will depend on if there is anything else wrong i am sure its the cable but you shouldnt have to get out every time and do that to your car for it to go into the gear you want it in. I had a charger i regret letting it go for dart dart is a nightmare im looking to get back into a charger.

This just happened to me after 3 hrs waiting for a tow truck I came across your video although my Dart is 2015 you helped me find my shift cable and I was able to manually get my car into gear and drive off TY So much I saved me $684.96 plus tax and towing for Dodge to replace the whole cable how I have to find a shifter bushing or rigged it till tax return when I can get my car to a shop again TYVM
On my car the shifter lights turn red and it goes into emergency mode all the dash lights come on what could be wrong I slightly hit the shifter and it goes back to normal

Any body have an idea why my key fob wont release from the ignition after replacing the shift cable? Had the work done at Firestone and of course they said we needed to replace the entire cable and not just the bushing. Now Firestone says the car is working fine, but the key wont come out unless you disconnect the negative from the battery. Firestone states they have no idea what is wrong and believe its is a safety feature through Dodge and take it to the dealer, of course i just paid $427.00 to Firestone.

Yes there is a recall for it it came out last year. Go the dealer they can fix it for free now
2015 dodge dart, that mechanism for my 2015 dart is under the battery bracket. That was my problem. 2015 dodge darts are on a recall for this problem

If it not the shift cable, unplug the smart unit in front of battery
Shifters locked simple buttom
Check bushing on shifting cable. On darts they tend to wear out much quicker

Jose gutierrez really frustrating trying to get it together. Some advice I got was to use a pry bar and some grease to put it on.
