Excellent Video, Thank You Michael.
I think that we are sold on Sling Blue with 2 add-ons for a total of $47 a month since we have an outside roof antenna for the 30+ free air channels.
Can't give Sling a grade yet as we have cancelled Directv yet.
Just checking all of our options before making a switch and YOUR VIDEOS are a FANTASTIC help. Thank You.
Thanks for watching! What letter grade do you give Sling TV?

So far, I’d give it an A, since I get all my local channels from Locast. Everything I get from Sling tv is a free bonus, it’s good
I subscribed to Sling TV after listening to your video. I love it so far and I give it an A. Great content and extremely informative. Thank you :)
They get an F- for the useless unwatchable new interface. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I have had Sling Blue for about 2 years now. I added one $5 package to get the Science channel and a few more news channels. I got a small Yagi outdoor antenna and put it up on the eve of my roof. I ran a coax cable down to my cable distribution box and hooked it to an 8 port amplified splitter going to my choice of about 25 outlets that I had wired, years ago. I went from 1 little flat antenna on 1 TV getting 25 OTA channels to getting 35 OTA channels piped in to all 8 live wires. I live in a major city, so reception is easy for us. I just subscribed to Peacock for $5 to get all things Motocross for 2023. So, I have all the local broadcast channels for news and a lot of other ones I may not watch much but they are there. I registered my 3 streams from Sling Blue to 3 ROKU sticks so I can have 3 TV's going at once on sling and if I want to change the TV's getting Sling and Peacock I can pop the ROKU off one TV and move it to another in 2 minutes ready to go. It took me a couple of years to make up my mind to pursue doing this because I didn't fully understand what all was involved with streaming but once I did, I kicked myself for not doing it earlier. I still use Spectrum Cable for my internet service but when I cut the cable my monthly bill was $235. I am now half of that (internet, Sling, and Peacock) and have way more than I could ever watch. And I get everything I want. I would give Sling Blue a solid B too. It needs Peacock. Ha. Maybe an A since it fits me almost perfect. If anyone is in the research stage of transitioning out of cable just do it. You will need WiFi. Sling offered a 3 day trial before starting the clock on your first month. I got a ROKU stick for $40 (have 3 now) and activated Sling and knew the first day it was going to work. I cancelled my cable the next day. That was fun. And so was returning the cable box equipment. Do it. 👍
Very comprehensive guide. Excellent information. Thank you and subscribed.
I've been using sling TV from about a year now I do like it I have blue crystal clear picture I do get local channels by using a small antenna
Thank you for helping me understand my sling tv.
I get more channels compared to yttv for less money. Its not as polished, but whatever. Love that they increased the DVR.
At some point some streaming services will cost as much as cable/satellite...
You're absolutely right. The streaming apps lured us in for free or cheap and now they are charging us slowly to cable or dish rates. Its all becoming a money grab. I was using MOBDRO and got everything I wanted free. They just pulled the plug on that app. because they made it a Felony to re stream live broadcasts. Believe it or not that was in the recent stimulus package. Go figure.
You want the channels and shows you got to pay. They know it. Entertainment is never cheap and they know people are more accustomed to home entertainment now.
It was only a matter of time. Nobody produces programming out of the kindness of their hearts.
Circenses costs.
What a mess! I think I'd rather do my taxes than try to figure out what I want from Sling and how much it will cost. (Never mind they don't have some of my must-have channels.) I'm thrilled with my RUclips TV and while I'm always open to a service surpassing them, this tells me it hasn't happened yet. (FANTASTIC video, though!!! Thank you so much for breaking all this down. Your explanation did a great job of showing what's on the service, how to get it, and what has changed.)
Thanks RUclips TV is still #1, though you pay for that. I'll be sure to let you know if something better comes along.
@@MichaelSaves You have a new subscriber. :-)
I use Sling Blue w/Lifestyle in conjunction with AirTV for local channels. I rate Sling very high because of the service at a reasonable price. Sling is not burdened with useless channels to inflate the channel count and price like RUclips TV.
Is airtv extra?
What is lifestyle?
@@MikeinPensacola Yes, $99 for the Air TV 2 box but no subscription fees.
@@mightyeye4624 Lifestyle is a $6/mon add-on that includes channels like Lifetime Moves, VH1, and Hallmark.
I was sleeping on Sling TV I did not have it long enough a long time ago but mixing Antenna tv with Sling TV was the best decision for sure. I haven't been affected with the price hike that i know of since I'm and old subscriber .
I recommend combining Sling Orange and Blue together .
Excellent content! New subscriber.
For me I have had Sling right around the price hike in December 2019 and getting the Blue+4 extras deal they had at the time is a good deal for me imo. I pretty much get all the channels I want (sans ESPN, but life moves on... Kind of wish I could trade around channels)
The fact that new customers pay close to what I pay for now for less content is wild, and the fact that I had 50 hrs of DVR at the start, then got 40 swiped away, then its given back like its brand new is...idk man...
Its good and cheap, but Sling has glaring flaws.
The free OTA DVR service[on your own hard drive] is awesome. Forget the paid channels.
One advantage recently noticed was that the “included” News selection has been augmented substantially, with the specialty channels that were initially included as add-on.
I noticed that too, but I'm wondering if that's just a temporary preview. I'm getting a lot of channels that otherwise I wouldn't get.
Thanks for ANOTHER excellent review. 👍👍👍
I was a bit excited about the DVR upgrade, but in order for me to get all of the channels I want, it would now cost me more than YT TV and Discovery+ combined.
I would have to get the Orange + Blue package and add the total tv extra.
Since they raised their prices by $5.00 they really can't say that the DVR upgrade is free.
It's still cheaper than HULU though.
I pay $80.15 with tax for YT TV, and (no adds) Discovery+.
I would pay $79.99 for the FUBO Elite package, which for some reason I'm not charged tax on, and not get the Turner channels that I like, and Sling would cost me $83.52 with tax and no Animal Planet or local channels.
All three are similar in price, but YT TV with Discovery+ is still the best combo for me, because I can watch almost all of the tv shows that the Discovery family of networks carry, on demand, and still get TBS, TCM, TNT and TRU tv, plus my local channels as part of the YT TV lineup.
Yeah sounds good to stick with YTTV then. At this point I really watch only 5 channels year round, so Sling works for people like me. The longer your list of channels, the more likely you’ll need those upgrades. How are you liking Discovery Plus so far?
@@MichaelSaves Discovery+ isn't a complete replacement for the live channels, but they do have a ton of shows to watch, so it's a decent compromise.
I have noticed some freezing of the picture and sound occasionally, and while slightly irritating, it only lasts for about 5 seconds or so.
Otherwise, I think it's a good service, so I think I'll keep it for now.
To get those live channels on Philo it would cost $20.00 more instead of $7.00.
I pay $70.19 with tax for YTTV. Why are you paying $80.15? Taxes in my city is 7.5%
@@madman1rug That total included Discovery+.
My payment for YT TV by itself is $72.37 where I live in Florida.
My taxes and streaming fees 🙄 are a little over 11%.
@@madman1rug taxes are local and state. They vary
I clicked on the link you show for the service optimizer. I put in the first two channels, A & E and AMC and it said "channel not found". So much for that idea.
They have both those. A&E and AMC
The content delivery industry sure is a complicated one. I bet most people pick a couple streaming services and call it a day
My TV broke after 12 years, and my DISH receiver, also 12 years old, has no HDMI port so I can't use it with my new LG OLED TV. So I either have to get a new receiver (free to me but 117 a month) or go with another service. I must have a rewind and record DVR feature ($5 bucks for 200 hours is NOTHING LOL). So which service do you recommend? Right now it's Sling (which a friend has and drops out of service if too many people are on the Wifi) or RUclips TV?
I use Sling TV to watch all my TV. I use it on the Apple TV and I like it
I actually like my current sling setup. I got blue+orange with an airtv receiver that can pull 30+ channels from an antenna. I am not a sports fan, but my dad is. He can watch the broadcast games with air tv and network games from epsn, fs1, tnt, etc. Also, I actually like that the other sports networks are in a separate package. I can add and remove the package when we need it (like college bowl seasons).
How is the DVR feature? I love letting a show go and then rewinding so I don't have to watch ads. Also I record "Walking Dead" (which is about to end anyway) and some sports. Can you do that with their DVR?
@@Blackdog4818 Yes, you can.
It’s not that Sling went up $5 it’s the lack of communication via email. You could’ve said, HEY! We’re taking $5 more dollars! I was gonna use the $5 to buy popcorn. Smh this world! Appreciate the video though
Additional Pro - it integrates over-the-air channel guides and recordings into it's interface if you use the AirTV Anywhere.
Additional Con - it doesn't provide any 4K content.
I'm single wondering what I'd be doing with so many ways to download at once, other than being in a hurry being able to download more shows at once once than bringinig them all together somehow. Then my cable bill would be MASSIVE,
for a while. I know, use it then drop it, when I go for a Maine to Alaska run, my ultimate goal. Any Idea out there? Do multiple massive downloads at night, when I sleep. That could get particularly confusive every morning but I'm going to make the trip, but not for 8 months... Another question. Can I download from multiple sites at once? looks like should be able to but the moon looks like swiss cheese, is it?
Can you get PPV (pay per view ) through sling ? Like showtime
i have a question, i want to get the blue package for Fox sports and fs1 to watch nascar and we have an antenna would it pick up those channels?
What are the easiest options to watch sling TV on my smart TV. I do not have home internet but have unlimited high speed streaming on my Samsung 9 phone which where I watch sling channels now.
I have tried them all at one stage or another. The best depends on your situation. In a large household RUclips Tv is probably better. More screens, locals, unlimited DVR, and more polished software. In my situation Sling has worked well for me because there are only two of us and I can pickup around 20 local channels with my attenna including all the major networks. I also have an over the air DVR. For $70 you can get sling blue plus orange pluse all the add ons. You get more sports channels with Sling, AMC, A&E, Epix Drive in, Hallmark channels and many stations you can't get with Hulu, RUclips, or Fubo Tv. Since I can get all the locals it works well for me.
Agree with you. Glad you're happy with Sling
As soon as my youngest reaches the 18 y/o mark, is Hulu premium and Disney+ for me. I think is ridiculous for us to pay for broadcasting. Besides, any show can be steamed for free if you look in the right places. RUclips is more entertaining than most networks, anyway
I've had Sling for a month. Orange +Blue because I want FS1 and NBCSN for NASCAR and I want sports, so have to have ESPN. The only thing I would like better is YTTV but the price of SLING is all I'm willing to pay. I'd give it a B. I also don't care about local channels.
I’m looking hard at Sling too because I rarely look at local TV and when I do I can get it on my antenna. If they had a total sports package instead of splitting them up between orange and blue I think I could completely drop DirecTV completely.
Grade A-, Sling Blue gives Mom MSNBC and NBCSN channels for $30. During the baseball playoffs I added the $5 DVR upgrade and with a free week of Fubo we recorded all of the MLB playoffs.
Downgrading XFinity to minimum saved us $130, we kept internet and the local channels so we get NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and add Sling and we have all we must have for $95 savings.
Sling DVR does not have a Wish List feature so I must select the Warriors games off the guide every week.
Also the Sling UI is the worst, more difficult than TiVo, FireTV, Roku, DirecTV, the worst, but $95...
Also one of the (cons) with Sling is if u have Orange & Blue + 5 dollar DVR. it's only 10 short of RUclips TV that's a better service.
I signed up 2 weeks ago with sling & purchased the blue..but I’m not having luck with watching Friday night smackdown..I’ve contacted support & they said they will pass the issue to the Engineering department…any help would be appreciated..:)
How do I download the app for Sling Blue channels.
Can you share with family members like RUclips tv ?
For me after do my research slingtv is the best and is so easy to use and manage
I find it easy to use as well, except the DVR could be better. It's also easy to use on a phone.
I have Sling TV Blue plus $20 add-on channels and like it a lot. No complaints. Happy to cut the cable cord.
Has anyone compared the picture quality between these streaming companies?
They could have averted the price increase by dropping their sports packages. Their competitor Philo hasn’t had to increase their price because they carry only lifestyle channels. Sling’s customers like watching sports so those carriage fees are passed onto them. You can’t keep costs low and carry premium cable channels at the same time. Something has to give and live TV customers ultimately have to decide what’s important to them: cutting cable TV costs or watching premium cable channels online. That factors into what live TV service to sign up with.
Exactly!
The content providers like Disney REQUIRE the service providers to carry them and will NOT permit them to push them to their own separate, add-on package because then the ugly truth would be clear to them.
I’m happy with my Sling Blue because it does have all channels that I care about. I did get the TIVO player and I like it very much. But since they don’t offer local channels and their cable channels line up is smaller than other streaming services, they should at least, sell the Air TV Anywhere to their customers for a reasonable price. For this reason, they get a “B”. Great Video. Thx.
Hey thanks for the comment. I absolutely agree about Air TV! They have sales and promos, but usually for new customers. Would be great to offer it at a lower rate to retain loyal folks. I’m on Sling Blue right now too.
Folks like you who can get what they want from one of the base packages are the ones who REALLY save with Sling.
$35.00 with 50 hours of DVR included is a good deal, and if you decide that you want the upgraded DVR for $5.00 more, it's STILL a bargain compared to other services.
One thing you didn't mention was sling's Airtv device. If you can pick up locals from an antenna, it will integrate those channels into your slingtv guide, providing seamless service. It will also integrate whatever sub channels that you pick up over the air. This accounts for 50 additional channels on my sling guide. So, for only 30 dollars I get everything I and my wife like to watch.
That's awesome. Yes, I didn't mention it because I haven't tested it. I have been meaning to. I think it's a great solution for people who are sticking with Sling for the long haul.
Can you use the dvr function for those local channels?
@@iceicekodi6402 no
@@iceicekodi6402 not with the TiVo player
@@MichaelSaves thanks. When I go to the My Tv section of the app and scroll to the bottom it has premium channels I can add. Why does Sling Blue show more channels for that bundle within the app than on their website or your video? It has hallmark and Game show network in the blue package
Will I be able to watch football and hockey on sling tv
In your opinion, what would be the minimum connection speed you would recommend for smooth streaming?
I touch on this here: michaelsaves.com/streaming/how-to-cut-the-cord/ You can get by with 50 Mbps, but if you have multiple devices like phones and other things connected at the same time, you will run into issues. 200 Mbps would be great. 100 Mbps is still good.
For us Philo and Locast do it all.
they have tnt and espn?
@@btran213 No they don't.
@@loulopez554 im out. not for me
Did Sling ever learn about time zones? When I tried Sling a year ago, all the cable network feeds were on East Coast time. If you live on the West Coast, things are on three hours early. Many networks repeat programs every three hours and it doesn't matter, but that's not always true. Yeah, you can DVR stuff but that's an extra step and back then Sling only allowed 10 hours of recording.
Would Sling TV recommended for wrestling fans? Can I watch AEW, WWE, MLW and/or Mexican wrestling?
While Sling Orange is marketed as "great for sports" (pretty much just because it has ESPN), Sling Blue has better sports options for my needs and is a pretty good deal all and all.
I only use sling TV for the Free section
I don't understand why there are times when Sling only allows me to watch my recorded shows at 1 am the next day? Are there issues where one cannot watch the recorded shows immediately after it is recorded? Interestingly, it did not record a scheduled show on Friday but recorded M-Th? So far, the Sling cloud DVR has been really wonky.
This has not happened to me but I’m curious and will look into it
I have sling on the $35 plan. The price sold me. I only watch 1 channel anyway. I get my locals by antenna with a Tablo box. I have Hulu,Netflix, Vudo, and Amazon Prime. I end up just watching Pluto TV though :O)
Are you able to see television with ur tablo box?
@@fatimah3463 YEs. I get all my local TV with an Antenna. I connect to the Tablo box with my Roku box.

Question - I only really care for the kids live channels - my wife and I barely watch anything on TV. Is there anyway to only pay for one Add-On package without paying for a blue or orange package?
Unfortunately no Have you checked out Pluto TV? You might find free kids content there
@@MichaelSaves I have not.. but will try it now. Thank you!
@@DeejayJimmy90 Also, take a look at Philo tv.
Although it doesn't include any Disney content, it DOES carry the Nickelodeon channels, and MAYBE some channels that you and your wife like.
For only $20.00 it would probably pair well with Pluto, and it currently carries 63 channels.
Also you might take a look at Disney Plus for kids content.
Philo, Disney Plus and Pluto (which is free) would cost less than $30.00 and provide a ton of viewing content for the kids.

I actually made a mistake on the Philo channel count.
They now have 64 channels because they added AccuWeather.
OOPS 😳
Hi, I bought Sling Blue
$35/mo
3 device streams
No contracts
Free 50 hour DVR
It does not come with ESPN. Can I upgrade my sling for just a short time to watch ESPN?
Sling Orange has ESPN. You could add that to Sling Blue and pay $50/month total and drop Sling Orange at any time.
I subscribed to Sling blue plan with sports add-on. I did this so I could watch BTN sports. When I went to watch the Rutgers-Northwestern game, it was not listed. Instead E Michigan vs Minnesota was on. The issue was that Sling apparently does not broadcast the Big Ten Overflow channel.....which was playing the Rutgers-Northwestern game. This is false advertising. They say they broadcast all Big Ten games but do not.
half the price? B is probably fair, but dam, love the low price. If they had broader support, it be an easy A. Not of PS4/5 or many TV interfaces such as Vizio.
I just got an email from Sling saying they're dropping local sports channels 4-1-21.
But what is the streaming quality and lag if any compared to say verizon or some stable mainstream option. I like the bundles and prices but worried about quality of audio/video and reliability.
I've got a video on the live TV streaming delay here: ruclips.net/video/yJqxsD9daMI/видео.html
I actually like the idea of Sling TV having two basic packages with add ons for customization. It is as close to al la cart as we have right now for popular live tv cable networks. The only channel that know right now that is coming to Sling TV in the future is WGN America/News Nation. This channel was a part of the contract that renewed the Nextstar Channels on Dish Network. Originally this channel was going to be a part of an add on possibility News Extra. Now with the price increase, this channel might be a part of both Orange & Blue. Newsy is on both Orange & Blue.
Same. I like the option for flexibility. I think consumers as a whole may not love it. They would rather have the same thing cable has but cheaper. But I guess I’ve progressed to wanting to pick and choose what I pay for, and like you said - this is the best we have right now.
Does airtv also have a dvr? Meaning with my Sling, if I add airtv can I record local CBS and ABC?
It's DVR-ready, you have to add an external hard drive to it for $40-$50 and up.
We have tried Sling several times using a Roku with unlimited ATT fiber. We just can't get past the glitches. Audio and video out of synch, problems with the app freezing up when Sling obviously "injects" commercials into the programming, DVR problems when rewinding, etc etc. The worst thing is the lack of customer service, even with all these problems, is completely lacking. We have tried all of the cable replacement streaming services. RUclips is best if you need sports, news, and don't have an antenna. If you have an antenna like we do, and don't need sports and news then Philo is a better option than Sling. I give them a big D- for technical issues and poor customer service.
Sling TV looks like a pretty good and fair service now that I’ve installed an OTA to view my locals (except abc). However, my only reservation is if I sign up for the Blue-Orange package, I could only stream to one device on the Orange content. Probably not a deal breaker but Sling really needs to address that shortcoming.
I would only move Sling’s grade up from a D to a D+ because of the DVR and here’s why. I honestly think this only works if you are in one of the small categories of people who aren’t sports fans and none of the other channels you may want don’t fall in one of the add on packages.
If you are a sports fan then Sling isn’t even a consideration because to get everything offered on RUclips TV such as all the league networks you have to get the Orange + Blue and the sports add on for a total of $65. For that price on YTTV you can still get all of your locals plus an unlimited DVR. If you add the 200 hour DVR you are at $70 then if you add the total TV deal because someone in your house has to have a couple of networks in more than one of the add on packages you are at $82. For roughly the same price you can get HULU + Live TV with no adds, 200 hour DVR and their entertainment add on and still have all your locals.
Depending on where you live, when you add taxes on the Hulu combination you listed you come out over $94.00.
You can get YT TV plus HBO MAX for just over $90.00.
@@spaceghost4474 well that tax would apply to sling also. Besides, I talked about the HULU comparison to show that just for a couple dollars more you actually get your locals and the same hours on a DVR. Personally I like YTTV the best.
These are good points, but not all sports fans are the same. Some people can watch football on Sundays on the broadcast channels (CBS and FOX) with an antenna and be happy. Others will want all those league networks, particularly for college sports. Then there are some pro basketball fans who only care when the playoffs start. But yes, for the situation you described, Sling would be a total pain in the butt when you can just get RUclips TV!
@@kenyattaclay7666 Yes, the taxes also apply to Sling.
I like YT TV the best too.
Currently the only service you can get the RSNs on is AT&T TV, and then only with their two most expensive packages.
They all have flaws.
@@MichaelSaves if that sports fan is only a fan of football or only a fan of basketball I agree. However I would argue that most sports fans are fans of more than one sport. The order of favorites may be different but if you are from an area like Chicago where I’m from or DC where I live the overwhelming majority of these fans are fans of at least two of the teams if not all of them.
Why do I have to keep sign into sling an why dose it take so long to connect with 500gb an nothing else on
Do you need wifi for TV viewing at home, no other devices with Sling or You Tube?
All of the supported devices like a Roku will rely on your Wi-Fi to connect to apps such as Sling and RUclips for viewing on a TV set
I've had Sling for a while... I did try RUclips TV BUT it doesn't have Hallmark or Lifetime which are channels I want, Fubo doesn't have Turner channels and I need those so they were a bust for me as well and Hulu Live was a definite NO! I My kids live Sling just as much as me so it was a no brainer & they're cheaper...
Does sling TV do on demand watching so I can binge watch some of the network shows?
There's an on demand library -- yes. Plus DVR to create your own library
I liked your comparison but YT TV includes local stations, no need for another app and has most of the channels from The Orange and Blue Sling combo. Anyone needs to look at what their must haves are and go from there. In any case, Sling isn’t “nearly half” of YT TV, it is 77%.
Hey, thanks! Nearly half if you get a $35 Sling plan vs the $65 for RUclips TV. I should have been more clear since most would end up with Orange + Blue.
You are so right! It’s $35 not the $50 I had in my addled brain! Mea culpa. It was a very good, comprehensive review! Thanks Michael!
I've read Customer Reviews, especially on BBB, Sling TV is a 1 star, complaints about customer service or lack thereof but important to me is that reviews said NOT reliable and stops, buffering, etc., these reviews are not from 2 years ago but recent. Major complaints is fine on phone, laptop but not on TV due to 30fps- whatever that is. I'm ready to finally drop the Evil Empire (Spectrum) but need to get the whole story, please post your experiences.
I've only experienced buffering with Sling every now and then, not frequently. I use Sling about 6 months out of the year. No billing issues. People rarely go to BBB to leave nice comments. I would say that if you don't like it, you can always switch. Try it out *before* you cancel Spectrum to see if it works.
I get occasional glitches with my sling feed going through my ROKU stick. There are a few repeat problems that happen every week or two, but I finally figured out that if I take the ROKU back to the home page and reboot sling it fixes it every time. Takes about 20 to 30 seconds. Still beats cable.
'SLING' NEVER PROVIDED A 'CAST' ICON on its app, at all. I use the GOOGLE CHROMECAST device... I also own a Tivo Bolt and I have a Chromecast stick. I assume each TV needs a receiving (streaming) stick. Here goes the dumb part How can the Roku stick stream Sling TV to 3 devices if I don't have 3 sticks? Can the TIVO Bolt be used and if so again, how do I view on more than one TV.
You could have 3 separate Roku devices - one for each TV. You can move around the same device from TV to TV but that’s a pain. Phones and computers are also devices that you can stream on. It’s 3 devices streaming at a time, not 3 total. I’m not familiar with TiVo Bolt. Roku Express 4K+ is on sale now if you end up liking it and want more
@@MichaelSaves The Bolt is basically a DVR that can be used with cable or in my case antenna. Thanks so much for your help. I was told that there is an app within Sling where I can view other than US channels. This app allow you to pick up to 15 channels from anywhere in the world and add to your package. Are you aware of this app?
@@candaceosborne1443 I am not, but I know Sling is available in some other countries. They have a support line that you can call if it’s not easy to find online.
I can order netflix and just put it on my computer easy...is sling the same easy way?
Yes
Sling actually isn't cheaper. It is much more expensive once you add all of the add-ons you need just to get to the same level as YTTV or Hulu Live. It is only cheaper if you pick one of the basic packages which is very limited
Which is a great thing!! NBCSN is the only paid channel I watch. Everything else I watch is either OTA or on a streaming service/RUclips.
RUclips TV is $65 a month. I have Sling Blue with all add-ons for $53 a month, and it gives me all the channels I want. Granted, if you got Blue+Orange+all add-ons, it'd come to more than $65 per month, but the reason people go to Sling is because they don't want or need all the channels and want to be able to pick-and-choose what ones they get at a lower price. I might consider other services if they broke out their plans so that I could choose to only pay for the channels I wanted to watch.
@@ckought69 Like I said, "to get the same level as..." It is nice that you have the option to pay less for fewer, but by the time you add the same channels, you end up paying more.
That is why I dropped Sling. I only watch a few channels. But the way they did their add-on lineup made it so I had so I had to add every add-on.
I only watch one sport, baseball, but I had to pay for the sports package just to get the one channel, MLB Network. I don't watch any news, but I had to get the news add-on just to get one channel that isn't even a news channel, The Science Channel (really?) A one or two other add-ons for just one channel in each. It ended up being less expensive to just do Total TV Deal. When I dropped them my bill was $77
What are you talking about? I get 7 add ons with the Total TV deal and my bill is $56
@@CandysChannel
That is because you have either Blue OR Orange and not both. In order to get what YTTV offers I need both. I only watch baseball so I need the Orange for ESPN and the Blue for FS1.
Orange + Blue = $50
Total TV = $27
Monthly cost = $77
I worked for Dish in 2015 when sling TV was introduced. Most people do not know that it was Dish that started streaming live television. It has gotten better every year. Now they have total tv package where you can get all 7 of their extra packs (70+ channels) plus another 150 hours of DVR for only $21 a month. That is what I am doing. Right now I have sling blue, the total TV package and over the air antenna. A total of $56 a month. The only thing I’m missing out on is ESPN but to me that is not worth $15 a month. I just mention that for the people who are pissed off that they can’t add RUclips TV on their Roku devices right now.
By the way I no longer work for Dish. I retired in 2016. I am now an old person that wants to get the best value for my money. Without doubt, right now that is sling. With an over the air antenna.
With the total TV package I would give sling a grade of A minus. RUclips TV still has unlimited DVR and you get ESPN although your pay more for RUclips TV right now.
As far as Hulu for live TV goes I would rate it Third because you have to pay an extra $10 to get up to 200 hours of DVR. In addition of course you have to pay more to get extra channels which Sling includes in their total TV package. However, for on-demand TV and movies Hulu at $5.99 a month ad supported is a fantastic bargain.
Thank you for your insight. I agree with you about the VALUE of Sling TV. I just wish these services had other ways to make money so they could invest more in the user experience.
One thing you did not consider in youtube and hulu price increase is that they include local channels. The companies that own these channels wanted a massive increase to have them keep airing them so that is one reason for the increase. I did go with sling when I first cancelled my satellite service but did not like it. I did not like that a number of the channels were on demand. For me they were not worth it and I have moved on. I did check them out again about 6 months ago and was not impressed so for me this service is not worth it.
I did mention about local channels, but maybe I didn't make the point you made. Locals are part of the YTTV and Hulu price hikes, but it's also the ViacomCBS networks.
Regarding locals, most streamers only provide the base network channel like ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS, PBS, CW, etc. They do NOT - and this is important - do NOT include the sub-channels which can have far more interesting programming on them, including Cozi, MeTV, Charge, Comet, TBD, and Antenna TV. You're only going to get all of these via OTA with Tivo or Air TV 2 (if you want a guide, multiple tuners, and DVR) or you can just direct connect your tv to an antenna to get them.
@@GerryMinetos I saw one guy that mentioned those that include local channels have to pay for these channels that most can get for free with an antenna. Because of this prices have to increase to include these channels.
What do you need to get sling tv
Just an internet connection and a supported device like a Roku
I hate the new format, and you need to keep the description of each channel. If I want to watch to watch a movie and never hard of it, the description is good. I mean what what you thinking, if it is not broken don't fix it.
Well sling is still cheaper than cable
I was paying SPECTRUM $166 for Cable and Internet. With Spectrum Internet and Sling Orange+Blue I'm paying $125 and like the channel lineup I have now.
Love Sling blue
I use sling TV for my Lebanese Arabic TV.
i pay 35.00 month the big problem is that if you turn off the tv you have to resign in to watch it. It is a pain in the ass to resign in just stupid ...
You should contact support. This doesn’t happen to me
There are no “digital “ antennas, only antennas.
Bad news. Mobdro just got taken off. I do Sling and other apps and websites. Sling isn't worth the higher price IMO. Probably cut it after July. I did sign up for CBS All access which will be Paramount plus. Had a special $30 a year deal. At least we get local CBS that Sling doesn't offer. We also like Price is Right. We have found once you drop something you don't miss it. There are a lot of free apps and websites we use.
I got that CBS deal too and hope improvements are on the way with Paramount+.
$35 + $21 for the Total package = Too much for not getting Local channels and not as many channels as RUclipsTV and limited DVR. Might as well just purchase the $65 a month more rounded RUclipsTV. Disappointed in SlingTV.
Only channels I care about are CNBC, NFL Network, MLB Network.
I agree that RUclips TV makes the most sense for you.
Why though? If you need that many channels, this is not for you.
@@Suddhadeep but I don’t need that many channels. That’s the point. I only need 3 Chanel’s but to get those channels I need to add on packages to get them.
@@italiancapo7 I watch only 1 premium channel.
Sling is great for me.
This has little to do with slings choices and more about how the streaming industry is.
$35 total? Or is there other fees and taxes on top of $35?
Taxes are location dependent. Some places charge taxes (which the services pass along) and others don't. So in some places, it's a few dollars more.
It's not worth it!! They took more Channels away today!! Says 50 channels but that's not what is on the list. I counted 44
How do we know if we can get local channels with the TiVo using Lowcast?
You must be in a city where Locast is offered. Here's more tivoidp.tivo.com/tivoCommunitySupport/s/article/Locast-on-TiVo-Stream-4K
I can't find the service optimizer tool on the web page. And all corporations demand profit every quarter. That sucks. Profit is profit. Why must growth be the driving force?
Best streaming service for tennis channel?
Not many choices left. RUclips TV dropped it. AT&T TV has it in the Choice package. I have a separate video on that here ruclips.net/video/opFRfqSNgg0/видео.html
There interface and streaming Quality is subpar,. If I try to watch an on demand movie cant even stop it and watch from where I left off. The app is glitchy and cumbersome! I switched to Philo Much better Quality and unlimited DVR
Why do you stop and start it for 6 months of the year??
To save money I rotate my subscriptions. I watch less live TV in the summer.
I switched over to RUclips TV because they have all my local channels and I also have philosophy for Hallmark and Lifetime as well as Locust for MeTV, I like Sling but it doesn't have my local channels which really is a MUST for me!!!
Sling is awesome 56 bucks and I get a shit load of channels . Paid 188 a month for stupid Directv. Popped an antenna on the chimney and locals solved
I mostly like Sling, however I wish there wasn't all those foreign language channels which I will never use. I wish I could drop them and lower my price. I may be dropping Sling because of this.
yeah one thing to know before signing up they don't honor their "Gift cards" anymore. They ripped me off, I'm moving on to better service, though I'll pay more. Tired of their garbage sign-on process.
THEY TOTALLY FUCKED IT UP.
i just dumped hulu live....over 79 bucks now...3 price increases in 6 months!
I'm disappointed in Sling. Cost went up to $35 and dropped the two local channels I was getting. Now, you have to download locast for a minimum donation of $5 to watch local networks. I'm dropping sling and I will use my rabbit ears to get my local channels for free.
Save your money!
