    I own a 35TH Anniversary GLI and I also owned a 2015 GTI and I totally agree with everything said here. While I love the GLI, the GTI and it’s playful nature is something i miss dearly. Although I miss the GTI, the GLI is the better daily driver for the money. I can fit 4-5 people comfortably without moving my seat forward. I can also fit all my stuff in the trunk with some space left over, which were major issues for me as I got older. If you want the best “do-it-all” car, get a GLI. If you want a seriously fun daily driver and do not need any passenger/cargo room, GTI all day long. Great review!!!

      I had a ‘15 GTI too and found the ride a bit too firm for daily driving on the poor road surfaces here in the Northeast. Also found the wheel hop and screech on fast pull aways, quite annoying. How does the GLI compare?

    • @dasneekj
      @dasneekj 4 года назад +1

      Michael Silbert the GLI is more comfortable for sure. Wheel hop is always going to happen in a FWD vehicle you’re gonna want to run sticky tires to eliminate that. The stock sport tires on the GLI are decent. definitely better than the GTIs all season tires.

The GLI will always b in the GTI'S shadow but that's a good thing is a good hach, when I got my car the SI and the elantra sport and I took a look at the Subaru WRX They were all good cars but I liked the GLI for its confer and sporty attitude. The si was not offered in automatic transmission and the WRX was just to hard and beat you up all the time and did not like the elantra. Motor was good automatic transmission was ok but just not in to the new look . Thanks guys keep up with the good work

    A lot depends on what you are wanting. It is inevitable that people would compare the cars but they really are more complementary than in competition. Most folks looking for a hot hatch wouldn't be interested in the GLI because, well, it's a sedan. Likewise someone looking for a sedan (like I was) should really look at the GLI. Really, if you think about it, for the cost of a 35th Anniversary Edition (which I paid 25K for out the door-that TTL included) I could have maybe gotten a Fusion SE, a mid range Malibu or a Accord Sport. All of those cars are fine but compared to a GLI they are not nearly the performance car that the GLI is. The GTI is the bar to be set for hot hatches and will be for the near future, but the GLI isn't a hot hatch.

    Love my 35th Anniversary Jetta with that wonderful 6 speed manual however I did nearly get the Rabbit Edition GTI for the lighter weight but that much lower price ended up winning. Not at all unhappy with my choice as I have already been leasing an Mk7 S trim manual Jetta from last summer when they first came out and have really been enjoying that one as well. Now handed down to my oldest son to learn manual on and he is now loving it. So yes very impressed with my GLI and funny fact it has about the same performance as my first car a 1969 Mustang coup with a 351w V8. Great car and surprising performance for the price. The only other car I was considering was the Veloster N but no was was giving discounts when I was shopping a few months back. Great review as always guys!

      VW's can be very reliable. My MK6 GTI went 113,000 miles without any major problems and never saw a check engine light. At said miles the PCV system failed along with the intake manifold and rear main seal causing a difficult to diagnose vacuum leak. Pretty big repair bill but it's been 100% reliable ever since. In Canada we paid around $30,000 for both our base 3 door 2016 GTI manual and our loaded 2019 "35 Edition" Finish is better in the GTI but good value in the GLI. Gripes are the rev hang in the 2019, it is HORRIBLE!, no height adjustment in the passenger seat and a skinny, weak stick holding up the hood as opposed to the hydraulic strut in the GTI, apart from that it is a fast, competent highway machine.

    When doing comparisons on speed, never use manuals because it's not accurate. Either use the automatics or go by the brochure and be done with it. One of the more meaningful reviews I've seen in quite some time. This, coming from a guy who's owned both of these. It's clear that the Jetta was built to a price point. The GTI is wayyyy more fun also. An overlooked point is that with the GTI, you can stuff 53 cu. ft. of stuff in it. Heck, a small refrigerator fits. Try that going into a 3 box sedan. My GTI sits next to a 911. Which is more fun? On regular roads and non-insane speeds, the V dub for sure. I'm seeing fuel mileage of well over 40 mpg regularly, and have seen 45 on the highway (they sell non-Ethanol gas here). The choice mainly comes down to your budget, and how important is the quality of the interior and features you get, which are absent on the Jetta.

    My Passat b6 has sort of the same power plant. 2.0T mated to 6-speed manual, love that car except in stop and go traffic which by the way it's the norm in my neck of the woods, acceleration lag at take-off and the fact the car wants to go a bit too fast doesn't make it a pleasant experience in heavy traffic.

  • @dailydrivensedans4875

    The reason theres a 9k price difference is cause your comparing a basemodel/35th gli too the top of the line gti. Okay maybe its not the autobahn but its either that or the top one. If the gli was an autobahn itd be about 31-34k which is a 2-5k dufference which makes perfect sense as the gti uses slightly higher quality materials like more softtouch around the interior. I think the gti is slightly over priced because vw knows people will pay. When lots of people want something demand goes up. The gli is not as popular and they just want too get the sales so theres no manufacturer markup. Also gtis have more parts made outaide of mexico making transport more expensive

    A hatch is more practical though. You can put larger things in the boot because the opening is wider. It then has more utility space. Also, the Jetta you can see has some cheap finishings and missing attention to detail like the GTI. The GTI seems more built the European way and the Jetta seems built the American way.

  • @cup_and_cone

    The perfect choice would be VW bringing back the Jetta Wagon with desirable 2.0T engine and a manual tranny option... The new Golf Sport/Alltrack Wagens are neutered disappointment.
    I've owned both a Jetta and GTI of the same generation... The Jetta was more practical for passenger hauling and grocery runs, but the GTI definitely had the cool/fun factor. After owning both my ideal choice would have been a Jetta Wagon, because it's even more practical than both but still has a really unique cool factor about it.
