    1:22 amongst the like smaller bass singing creators i think chris cosby has my favorite low range in terms of how it sounds to my ears. i mean he's putting full vibrato on a 1st octave chest note in that clip. he may not be able to sing as low as some other bass youtubers outright but from F2-B1 or so the tone and weight of his lows are really impressive

    How can you tell the difference between a true chest note and a vocal fry when you hear it? They all sound croaking to me, which is what I thought was an indicator of it being vocal fry.

    • @Ana-uy1ck
      @Ana-uy1ck 2 года назад

      For me Vladimir 3:17 sound chest, Jeff 4:04 minutes. The majority of others sound vocal fry or at better mixed chest and fry. In a low chest note, you can still hear the singer natural tone quality, but In fry it's manly a door close noise.

    Subharmonics are extremely difficult to control, but I do not really consider them true bass singing, as even tenors and high baritones can teach themselves to reach the first octave with them. I used to try to use them, but it never felt right, and felt like I was cheating. Don't get me wrong: There's nothing wrong with using them if you can. I just personally don't feel right including them in my vocal range.

      I've always thought Mark McCauley sounded like he's in mixed voice starting in the lower 2nd octave. Glenn Miller is typically in full voice down to Ab1 or so, and I know Tim Riley also hates fry (told me himself once). I think in a lot of cases here, at least in the 2nd octave, you might be mistaking the frequency of the note popping through for fry beginning to mix in. I'll confess that stuff below about A1 or Ab1 becomes hard to decipher for me when it comes to telling mixed voice from full voice.

    I am a low bass (but also can reach C5, as well) and can hit B0 in chest voice... hearing J.D. Sumner do a Bb0 with such ease in chest just blew me away! Which, we know, this is just showing off... most of us low basses are stuck between F1-F2 (or a little higher) most of the time, anyway.

      @@finnrdyt1840, once I get my studio setup, not a problem. I can hit an A0, but it's been too pitchy for my liking. Once you get below E1, the control required makes it very difficult; given the difference between the notes is a very small percentage of the waveform. This is why a lot of bass singers don't go much lower than F1 or E1... it doesn't mean they aren't capable of producing the note; it only means they aren't capable of sustaining it without it going pitchy.

      @@finnrdyt1840, not the B0 in a chest-fry mix I use, but A2-F1 in chest, switched to a subharmonic at E1, then an A0 subharmonic that went a little pitchy to G#0 and back to A0. I'd only been using subharmonics for about a month when I recorded this, so still wasn't the best at pitch control. ruclips.net/video/H2exPhVeQes/видео.html
