Cool Video! A couple of notes are debatable such as Geoffs E1. Most people say that it ends on a (somewhat flat) F#1. Steve Cross uses some sort of unique fry-based technique for his super low notes so the F1 is definitely not chest. You could’ve included Mark McCauley tho.
No note after D#2 is chest, everything has an amount of false chord engage amd this is why composers avoid low notes after D2 (which is also very rare) for opera like hell 🤣
If anything, there shouldn’t be an official “chest note” compilation. After all, that’s not even a mechanism for the voice haha. More so a placement of sound as well as breath control. A lot of arguing comes about from the whole “is it chest or not”. For instance, no one has ever confirmed Zlatopolsky had modal tones down to an Eb1. If you actually compare his super low contra to say, Glenn Miller or Pasyukov, although he might go lower at some times, his voice has less fundamental harmonics to his counterparts in notes that they all can sing. Especially compared to Glenn Miller now. Unfortunately the recent Capella Romana concert from Christmas 2021 is unavailable to the public, but he was hitting easy A’s and G’s that filled the room with bass. Glenn’s got a lot more under him. But at the end of the day, Music is music, and in gospel or choral setting no one is asking for a pure modal sound. Just something that sounds good.
Let me quickly mention that Zlatopolsky could dip to E1/Eb1 on inflection (there's an excerpt by The Oktavism channel where he does precisely that), as he was speaking. He wouldn't quite gain anything if he (chest-)fried it just to sound deeper when speaking. He got 'em notes covered with M1/Modal register or 'chest' down to a respectable Eb1 at least. That's my take on it.
There has been no one like Mikhail Zlatopolsky when hitting that B0/C1. Specially because he is in a chorus and with only acustical support of the church or wherever that was recorded and his vocal cords.
a few notes and suggestions. - Steve Cross's lowest chest note is (i think) around G1. his lowest consistent chest note is A1 or so. that said, his chest-fry is very solid so i understand the confusion - Matt Fouch considers F1 the beginning of his chest-fry register, with his lowest chest note being G1 - u can clearly hear a change in connectedness below F1 in Glenn Miller's B0 clip, which i take to mean he transitions to a light chest-fry. that one is more up for debate than the other corrections but something i think is worth pointing out anyway - tex williams has what i think is a chest-y sounding Eb1 in this song that u might want to add to the desc considering u put casey moo in there ruclips.net/video/5Who2xTAaG0/видео.html

I've been analyzing the spectrogram and I couldn't find any sustainable evidence for C0, I don't have perfect pitch either, but if I feel a vibration like C0, when I generate a pitch C0 it sounds very similar for a brief moment. Probably you accidentally he does a subharmonic C1 to C0 or going down to G0 accidentally subharmonic to G-1.
04:15 And he still said "That's not much"! How dare you to say that?? Zlotopolsky's official lowest chest note is Eb1 but later he has hit a C1. That all chest. You can check his E1 that was pure chest even tho u can hear the pops. Clean E1 is almost impossible
@@freddiestudio7668 zlatopolsky was a connection of profondo with oversized larynx and a drinker. He didnt have to use strohbass. Also a healthy man (like glenn) should not be able to sing under E1 on pure chest but alcohol destroyes vocalcords.
I mean, anything below F1 or E1 is hardly chest by anyone. At the end of the day, if we take Zlatopolsky as an example we all know how powerful his bass was but that doesn't mean it was Chest. Hell, chest isn't even that powerful for oktavists down there, below F1. A C1 (especially the one by Zlatopolsky that isn't supported in the chord by a C2 from any other basses) sounds hollow and empty but you can hear it because it's projected very loudly BECAUSE it's not Chest. It's some form of Strohbass/Chest-Fry mix. If you want to be heard down there over a choir without any amplification/microphone you need to stand out by adding that "pop", that cut to your low notes by using Strohbass. A breathy Chest C1 just wouldn't be able to do the job. I've tried both, Strohbass and Chest, in terms of projection and raw "power", and Strohbass is still the winner, even if it sounds less resonant and less "bassy", the pop of the Vocal Fry mixed into the note adds overtones and undertones that your bottom Chest range can't produce. I'm of course not taking anything away from these Legends, but you can see my point of view, remember, Zlatopolsky, A. Ort or Glenn are freaks of nature in their own way but they're still human, there are limits.
@@DanielcalLundberg Besides alcohol or cigarettes? Not really, I'm afraid. The voice naturally thickens and becomes warmer and louder with age, so it might just be a matter of time. What I can tell you, however, is that just using your voice can do wonders for consistency. Work with what you have and practice a lot (without hurting yourself), even if means you'll have to wrestle the thought that you're not Glenn Miller lol. Does it really matter what your lowest chest note is if you can sing well in general *and* do second subharmonics? I personally don't think so.

Yeah, Zlatopolsky didn't have quite as good of a fundamental frequency than Glenn Miller ever did.
