I looked at it like this is the world about a decade before the purge. Of course I'm messing with the timeline of things but in my headcanon the purge takes place in the reconstruction period after this movie.
I like to believe A24 CIVIL WAR would be the alternative universe of the Purge story after the last one they did when it goes down hill
