How much did you spend on your first setup?

~$1,400 US I haven't even finished this video yet. In fact, I just started it. Due to a miscalculation in the PID tune I rapidly destroyed it in less than a minute. Still had the obsession and have spent much time, money, soldering, and tuning to now have just one beautiful quad 5 inch build I call Zippy, and it's all worth it! Thank you for your inspiration, and I have been a fan for at least 5 years or more. You have helped me mentally through out the years giving me goals and Inspiration I don't connect much with cheap buys I like the feeling of building it myself even if I do crash it I know I can fix it. I remember your videos of you and your friends crashing in the trees and not losing your sh!t. Keep it going man you used to have way more views on you tube than this maybe it's the economy or maybe you did so good everyone has a drone they love.

Glad to see you review this ,I did comment on the Lightning video that I was flying a Drak' and specs seemed comparable.
My first FPV setup cost $110 I got a second hand Diatone crusader and the worst eachine goggles , as I have been flying fixed wing and Heli's for decades I was already using a fantastic Futaba TX with FRsky Module.
On the subject of goggles you reviewed a periscope style box goggles a while ago that you really rated , I have lost the sight in my right eye recently and have suffered some effects in the left and have had to move back to a set of EV800d's with printed inserts to increase focal length ,could you tell me who makes the periscope ones you reviewed as 've struggled to find them ,many thanks if you can.

@@ericholman6072 They did the job and "lit the fuse" on FPV for me I have 5 sets of goggles ,Fatshark, skyzone and ev200's among them but unfortunately I cannot use the with my current vision so I may have to build a Ground station with large monitor if I cannot find a more portable solution.

This is my first drone after the avata 2 and I really love it finally gave me a taste of what FPV was actually about. If you want to significantly improve this drone you can upgrade the antenna to a circular polarized antenna for very cheap. You get way better video quality and I've taken mine out about a kilometer on just 200mw without issue Great little drone.

Great video - I made one of my favourite 2S HD builds using the Drakenight Frame:
    * 1S Walksnail VTX
    * Purchased Happymodel Mobular8 for the DJI 03 kit, without the DJI VTX for parts.
    * Dismantle Mobular8 -- It's was a cheap method of purchasing parts, 1103 motors, 405 flight controller with backbox
    * obtain some longer 2mm screws, and cut up antenna tubing and to make spaces, for making up the controller fightcontroller.
    * Drill out the motor holes in the Draknight -- they need to be slightly larger, Re-assemble all the parts in the Drakenight Frame
Enjoy a great flying quiet HD drone, with no props in video view. -- that can fly for over 5 minutes on GNB 720mAh 2S Batteries.

It was a mess with assembling these from scratch, mud and stones 7+ years ago. Some had brushed motors and was sluggish as heck (do anybody even remember Eachine EX110 or first tiny whoops?). In few years things unbelievably progressed for these little things. Now you can get them even with HD FPV video onboard.

My first setup was a pair on 800vd box goggles. I built a zmr250 😂❤ with a cc32 then naze32 and it was spectrum 😂😂😂. Know that I’m writing this I actually remember I also bought a hobby king 250 inch something that had a kk2.? lol. I’ve bought so much stuff over the years but my first proper setup was a qx7 when they first released and a tyro79. Still rocked the box googles lol. Definitely spent thousands since then and I got a wall of drones box of parts and 2 work desks full of fpv and rc crap ❤❤

I really love my Draknight. It's pretty fun! Although the bottom plate of the frame (2mm fiber carbon) breaks so easily; some silicone socks helps a lot! And I recently changed the stock motors (1003) for a bigger ones (1103) and now it's FUNTASTIC! 😅
Edit: Also first thing I did was to change de lineal antenna for a circular one 👌

Hi Stew and Steve, Great video and review of the hglrc Drakenight 4s. First, I love RTF kits. I don't know why every kit is great to get people into the hobby. But I would have liked to see kits with the Eachine EV-800D, then you can record. Best of all, The spoiler. Thanks for the video and info on these quad.

Invest in a good radio and you will have fun, if its a drone or a K'Nex car i built for my boys you can switch on the fly and have more range then your VTX can keep up with. I personally use a Taranis with a dragon link from team black sheep. Maybe thats old school now days but the point remains, Its better to have a nice radio you're accustomed to then crash your new toy into a chain link fence 😢. Also goggles can help with that scenario however you shouldn't be flying at high speeds in places that you haven't personally scoped out first. My point is, invest in the radio and the goggles first. They are universal, and they do not crash or break if you respect them as much as your friends at least.

@joed9843 Eachine EV800D for the money it works but it is heavy and uncomfortable, But you won't notice when you are starting out. Good goggles will help you when you are experienced, but for now if you just want to experience the hobby I would buy anything that you can afford and make sure it has two antennas and upgrade them! I always have one omnidirectional and one for long range if my video feed gets fuzzy I can turn my head and bring it back without a total black out.

@@nyclassic4ever130 I was unable to turn off the integrated analog VTX (even though I followed the manual ), so I decided to buy a Pavo Pico during black friday ($80) and combine it with the Walksnail Lite. It flies almost as good as the Draknight, plus it has prop guards therefore can be used indoors.

Do not repeat my mistake and buy RTF kits because you're worried about binding and setup. If I can learn how to do it, you can too.
The radiomaster pocket ELRS costs like 25% more money than one of these kit radios. But its like 300% better of a radio. You'll learn basic binding and setup necessary for any drone you'll ever buy or build.
