honestly.... Being a complete beginner in FPV myself, I find this kind of videos way more helpful. Seeing guys ripping all the time doesn't really help understand where I'm on the hobby and ways to improved. Thank you for your video.
None of your tricks were perfect after a single week, but that imperfection made that last clip more relatable to watch. It made me want to go get better myself. You got me into this hobby, and I'm super thankful for it. Keep kicking ass man!
Make sure you cut the throttle completely on the inverted yaw spins and it should be more floaty Edit: using dynamic idle then turning down your idle percentage will give you even more hang time.
The kwad actually spins 2 of the 4 props to create a yaw motion. So even if you go to zero throttle you'll have some acceleration towards the ground. It's difficult to incorporate into a flow as you typically need the extra height.
man, you were so lined up for the flagpole gap on the last run! Saw your brain tell you punch it and your fingers bailoff the side haha. looking slick af out there.
Reminds me a lot of Bardwell's "3 pack-a-day challenge", where he's been doing similar specific practice flights in 3 packs a session. It definitely fits with some of the best theories on intentional practice and how to become an expert in just about anything.
Much like other tricks, the magic to 360 yaw spins is just building momentum before you attempt it so you can cut throttle right away & just use your momentum to hold you upside down. Also how you get the juicy part of a juicy flick.
Cracks me up seeing people coming into mini quads these days, the progress is so rapid! I spent literally years getting specific tricks nailed. You should fly a build that's like 6 years old and see how you do with that 😊
Remember that you don’t get better while you practice - you get better while you sleep. Practice the thing you want to remember last and try to leave it on a high note.
Great progress Video, usually day5 is a normal thing when learning new stuff. Close before mastering something your brain tries to sort everything out ending up with very bad results on that day right before making a huge progress step. Same is also true in school if you're precisely tracking performance of students
i can agree with that, since I fly FPV, my DJI-flights went so much better, because firstly of confidence (you actually know what this birds can do) and far better feeling for the controls.
Matt, It has been very productive and you have given us not only information about the progress of the practice using the practice but you have also given us the sensations of this hobby, enthusiasm, frustration, excitement and desire to learn ... thank you very much. A great Christmas present.
Inverted yaw spins were the bane of my existence for probably a months worth of trying to nail it. After a combo of higher rates, lower idle rmp, and lower camera angle it was way easier. Lowering the idle reduced the downward pull and making the camera closer to level made the motor plane closer to being parallel with the ground, dampening the wobbling feeling you tend to get. I still can’t really incorporate it into my flow really well. it always feels forced or like an afterthought, like I have to take time to line it up and don’t really know how to transition in/out of it from other moves.
I'm 3 months in and the biggest leap forward happened when I ditched my back yard for the soccer fields. When learning on a 4s 5" the biggest advantage to learning is wide open space.
Your videos are so satisfying to watch. Easily one of my favorite FPV related channels. Just wish you posted more!!! Haven’t even watched the vid yet but figured I’d share for the algorithm. Super excited for this one!
You won't ever find your end abilities in a week, your mind skills and speed grow for much much longer! Great stuff still! 🏆 Throttle off for most tricks!
Bro 👊! You just made my day! In the last months I started getting regretted of having bought my drone most of all because here in where i live there are not cool spots to fly over or interesting things to record But after watching your video wow!! I guess It made my realised that I just need a couple of trees and practice my moves to get fun and make a scene interesting Thank you lot for this video man! 🙏🙏
@@2toeninja I don't, I haven similar progression in my FPV journey.... I have it logged in video as well on another youtube channel. I think most people suck so badly for so long because they're scared of crashing....... It's always boggled my mind at how slowly people progress in this hobby. And I even just wrote a comment on this video thanking him for showing that it IS possible to not suck... Of course he had used the simulator first as did I, as does everyone.
I know this was mentioned below but your best, least expensive first stop is a sim. While you don't necessarily get the feel for really flying it does teach muscle memory and that is a huge help and has been to me over the last 5 years.
I could definitely see your improvement in the last flight! great video, I was very entertained! Inspires me to try to get moar gud at freestyle myself, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who struggles with those inverted yaw spins! Subbed!
Did you ever get the hang of inverted yaw spin? You might find it easier if you throttle punch and invert as the drone still has upward momentum which gives you time to do the yaw spin and float in the air
Great video. Getting some stubby antennas or something like the iFlight Crystal directional antenna helps a lot with the `cool` factor when wearing the goggles. Also getting a replacement strap for the headstrap gets rid of the strap going over the top of your head and won't mess up your hair.
Great seeing you finally learning freestyle (and looking liky a way happier person doing it)! On the inverted yaw spin: try turning slower, it reduces the acceleration drastically - start with 180°
I know this is a little old now, but as someone learning freestyle it was quite encouraging. I thought that last clip looked pretty great, man. I would imagine you're probably a freestyle beast by now.
I would say the only thing you missed on the seven days was object interaction, and the "flow" side of freestyle. but, overall amazing video, and super entertaining.
Awesome video . I loved seeing the progression in one week ! Your should do a 7 day race video and practice flying some race gates . I’ve found flying a race course helps with freestyle and precision flying in general . I’ve also found freestyle helps my racing !
I think you can do the inverted yaw spins smoother, if you start them with a half powerloop, that way you have more upward momentum, and it looks smother
I felt exactly the same way when it came to day 5 and day 6. I believe that my brain did some database optimization and defragmentation unconsciously when I was asleep. My day 5 was like yours I just kept crashing and then all in a sudden on the next day, I felt I never had so much control over the drone and I nailed every spot where I crashed the day before. It feels like you didn't learn fpv flying step by step along the steep curve. You learnt that in one day.
This video is soo underrated. Awesone stuff Matt. I still don't understand how you don't have more followers. Be patient though, its coming. Just wait.🙏🏽
I really love your videos I always check the notification bell for your vids and when you I always get excited as they are fun and relaxing to watch!! wish you all the best, And Merry Christmas!!
An advise on inverted yaw spin. Try to gain a little bit more of height to practice them. Later when you feel more confident you can try them closer to the ground.
Dude I started with the same focus as you. But as soon as the goggles came on I turned into Mr. Steele (in my head) and a few minutes later I`m Bardwell trying to repair my quad after a horrific crash. But I`m getting there, one pack at a time. Now I fly more and repair less. Good times. Merry christmas and a happy new year.
Great video my man. I'm at right now where you were on your first day of FPV freestyle. I'm going to practice more tricks on Volocidrone SIM and just get more stick time in gereral. Thanks for the vids.
I started flying with my Nazgul 5 a few weeks ago. But not it's winter in the northern hemisphere and the weather mostly does not allow me to practice as much as I would like to... Awaiting spring and summer so bad to improve my skills! Meanwhile I often train in the simulatior. Good video. Documented your progress very nicely.
This was awesome man! I've wanted to build an FPV drone for awhile and do a combo of freestyle and cinematic shots to edit up to my beats. With Christmas coming up, I figured now was the time to start practicing. So I ordered a transmitter that will be here tomorrow so I can start practicing in sims, then build one with Christmas money. Lol. Your videos have been helping me a ton!
Thank you very much for the content. I'm starting with cinewhoop and I really want to buy a freestyle. Thank you very much for inspiring me, could you share with me a video that talks about which drone is cost/benefit?
I liked this video alot, it was very entertaining! Never seen you videos, so I subbed! 👍🏻 A thing that helped me doing powerloop was to hold the quad in my hand and emulate the power loop, while doing that looking at where the camera was pointed when I needed to go backwards, and then trying to visualize what the image in the goggles would look like at that point... Ohh and sure alot of practice too😅
Recently went from max rate of 667 to 900 and the difference makes me feel like I’m flying a different quad entirely, but it did make pulling off tricks low to the ground much easier.
Honestly, the easiest way to get better at freestyle is to just put hours and hours in the sim. I prefer Liftoff since the maps are the most diverse (I find each map lends itself to different skills in freestyle). No need to crash your drone or wait for batteries to charge, just get that muscle memory and it will transfer to real life with some fine-tuning.
I think you're doing great I started about the same time u did "even stared with Arris 220 like u did" and you're way better at Freestyle than me so far. And I fly about 3 days out of the week . 6 pack sessions maybe 2 sessions on a good day
Brilliant video/diary. The improvement in the final clip is so evident. Nice. Having an "off day" is so odd. I've had a few myself. Possibly distracted by other things going on! Good going mate. Merry Christmas.
i will give you some advices for maximum inverted hang time: 1) Low your motor idle spin to minimum. 2) Choose thin props (one of the best 5143s) 3) learn to throw yourself at the right time 4) The weight of your quad affect how fast you get pulled by gravity
Matt's day 1 practise, does rolls & flips & swoops around trees. My first day, can't hover for longer than 5 seconds before I aggresively hit the ground and losing control :')

Oh for sure... no one's gonna become a pro in a single week!
Make sure you cut the throttle completely on the inverted yaw spins and it should be more floaty
Edit: using dynamic idle then turning down your idle percentage will give you even more hang time.
Great tip, also the faster you spin the faster you fall. Try a slower yaw spin once you're inverted
@@skyhackerfpv7104 Both of these tips are good and even an experienced pilot can still forget to go to full zero throttle.
What he said... cut throttle when inverted... Side note: Up-Tilt is our friend! Amazing!
The kwad actually spins 2 of the 4 props to create a yaw motion. So even if you go to zero throttle you'll have some acceleration towards the ground. It's difficult to incorporate into a flow as you typically need the extra height.
@@bandobandit353 3D, there i fixed it for you.
I really like how you put the flight footage on top of the radio, haven't seen that before
That was Wild Willy FPV during those clips.
I like it too, but i may confuse some people which are new to fpv
Hi! This shit is hard!!
I think object tracking feature in premere/after effects should do it
man, you were so lined up for the flagpole gap on the last run! Saw your brain tell you punch it and your fingers bailoff the side haha. looking slick af out there.
glad I wasnt the only one who spotted that
What is nice about FPV freestyle is the style is personal. Every flight an fpv pilot takes is a good flight. Great video!
For a second, I was scratching my head trying to figure out, how you were getting video on TX 16 monitor.
lol
@@eagle7015 lol
Would be nice though
1. Swap in OLED screen
2. Put in monitor RX circuitry with switch to change source from tx display to RX monitor
Thanks for sharing your journey, I’m not in the sky as of yet but your videos gave me hope that I’ll be ok when I do. Thanks again!
Spend some time in the sim. It will drastically help learning new tricks
Which sim
@@CWsolomerx i like liftoff
@@scuzzyfpv me too, some people say it doesnt fit their rates, but i find it extremely accurate
@@oddarntnes7079 yea rates are accurate
I just started on the DRL and first day couldn't control it. Now everyday I'm flying better and soon gonna buy a fpv

3:13 for real beginners
To flip, you need to be in acro mode.
Stability mode prevents you from going past a certain angle with your drone.
