I'm a EE. I used to tinker around with microcontrollers to make things that helped around the house. Letting me know when the laundry is done, being able to turn off the light without having to get out of bed. But it's been like 10 years. When I saw the kid geared packs I was one of the people that thought it would be cool if there was one for older people. Can't wait to try it

For your micro tinker at home stuff take a look at home assistant combined with esp32's and something like esphome or similar perhaps btw, If you felt like getting your hands dirty again all that messy UI stuff has been taken care of and you can play with the fun end of things.

The way you've packaged hack pack is really nice. I've been doing this stuff two decades. That has to be one of the most interesting and supported kits out there. I like how you push the make it your own so kids can learn to adapt and make their own solutions.

Hello, Mark Rober. I am an engineer and computer scientist and I have been working with the US Government to develop these very defenses. I run a company which is developing a new version of the MQ-9 Reaper drone to combat mass drone attacks. I was understandably very surprised when I saw this video pop up and I am glad that the public is finally seeing the risk of these drones.
I totally agree, but I think part of the problem was also lack of ability. I do think that there was a period where the public lacked awareness of the dangers of drones, but I also think there was debatably a period where the public began catching on but didn't have the ability to do anything about it yet. Thankfully, it seems that period is coming to its end as well.
@@sirsapphire3499 And I can't say many things but just remember, whatever you think is possible, the United States Government has already probably developed it.
@@AstroGuy0 I think I heard a saying once about how if some sort of cutting edge technology that was government funded had been publicly released, that it was released because it's outdated in comparison to the technology they have now.

I'm an Aerospace Engineering student and I just want to say this video was fun to watch and super useful! I'm going to keep these tips in mind as I continue to develop my drone Valkyrie!
I'm tryna decide between Aerospace and Mechanical engineering. U think Aero is worth it?
bro the hack pack legit sounds fun that is so smart love the idea mark
The lesson here: Dont ask a weapons manufacturer if you want the simplest / cheapest solution... well to the majority of the problem anyway.
All you would need to reliably take down an incoming light drone would effectively be a very large shotgun - with maybe 8, 10, 12 shotguns strapped together with the ability to fire as one.
Fix a device like this on the top of every armoured vehicle or stationary asset, wether manned or automated with the same tracking technology used here and the attacking drone would need some pretty incredible manoeuvring to survive a 12 barrel shotgun blast, or blasts from this system.
The only problem is that this wouldnt really be patentable.. and obviously would be used as a 'last line of defence' before impact. But having said that, if your other countermeasures and gadgets arent working and you dont have this last line of defence - those other countermeasures ARE your last line of defence.
Ngl the hackpack looks like a ton of fun. I'd have definitely gave it a shot if it were available here in the uk!
I work for a defense contractor that is working on drone detection/defense. It’s really cool to see what a couple of youtube engineers can accomplish with much more limited resources! Great vid.
So what your saying is when they aren’t trying to make millions of dollars through government funding they move actually fast and are productive

Definitely all cool solutions but the second to final one- the Tesla coil electric nut defense, is truly the most ingenious
to defend against force impact have a drone made of parts that hold together by elastic/ thread. after impact the parts will split appart on design and just pull back together the us military. already has a drone designed to land by crashing. same concept just have to alter it slightly to pull itself back together.

All of you guys are quite impressive in your engineering skills, your innovation/conception ability, and with your follow through with completing these projects. I'm pleased that William won, but they were all wonderful devices. My favorite had to be the vortex cannon, even if it was the least practical.
Great video.
My favorite part of the video was seeing HackPack. Considering the cost of an arduino nano or similar, shipping, all the custom parts for assembly, and the product support; this is a incredible deal for learning. My hat's off to you & your team Mark 🎉
Yeah but why not in Europe
Cuz Muricaaaa !!! @@Axl-Miro
@@Axl-Miro tbh you can buy the parts yourself. Just come up with any project idea you want to make, then get a list of components you'd require for that, and buy them at an electronics store or order them online. It's gonna be harder learning how to set it all up, since you'd have to go out of your way to look up additional tutorials and resources online, but it's worth it if there's no other way.

Anduril's anti-drone drone that just collides with them is brilliant.
Disagree. They're in America, use guns
American problems require American solutions
@@wingid Look closer. It is both the gun and the bullet.
Just install an auto-dodge system on the drone. With the detection of that drone and detection of high speed approach.
@@ArthurDYeah. And yet they call the system "flawless"... Easy way to beat the heavy hunter drone thing.
