It’s a timeless album that never seems to age or sound tired. This is an indication that the songwriting was top notch and so was the overall genre defining production. Thanks a bunch for watching!
I came into Death Metal with Carcass's "Necroticism", and what you said about the light switch? Absolutely. I first heard Incarnated Solvent Abuse (saw the video on Muchmusic) and did not get it at all. It was "Corporeal Jigsore Quandry" that flipped the light switch for me, finally after a dozen or so listens. Huge fan of them since. Great video, it predates me finding this wonderful world of music by several years, so learning a bit of the history there is nice and appreciated. :) edit: Grind Crusher comp looks familiar!
I can so definitely relate to your musical journey!! They were amazing days, being around for the birth of Death Metal! At that time I didn’t realise it was to be the beginning of the end for Thrash Metal & tbh, I didn’t care, I was on my more extreme journey!! Youthful naivety eh!! Pretty much every album you showed has been a staple for me since my teens!! Great video & good to hear your opinions, all spot on imo!! I’m still excited to see people talk about them 30 years later!! Stay safe my friend!!🤘🏻
Speaking of which.... now is a good time as any, to get the lads back together again! Us old bastards need the cathartic release for sure. It has been working for me!
Marc when thrash was dying, I didn’t care either. the pull of the extremity offered by death Metal was too exciting. By that time, thrash was tired and the scene was overrun with a million sub standard bands. But everything old is new again. Especially in metal! Thrash remains my favorite genre. Stokes the fires of nostalgia! Thanks so much for watching Marc! Take care.
Funny you posted this. I started on a dm binge yesterday. I listened to Alters of Madness, Left Hand Path, Closer to a World Below (my fav immolation) and I ordered a 2lp of Like an Ever Flowing Stream when I was drunk at midnight.
Drunk buying!!! Always fun. In the past I’d get shut in the mail that I didn’t exactly remember ordering. Haha. Is there a bad Immolation? Hell no! Take care.
Great video. Hell yeah, I done most of my buying from Camelot and Relapse. Damn, Relapse had all the imported black metal back in the day. That’s cool that you went to the first Michigan Death Fest. I went to the 95 fest which was in Knoxville, TN of all fucking places. It was empty in the venue, but I got to see Ancient, Brutality, Immolation, Human Remains, Internal Bleeding, Cryptopsy, Gorguts and many more. Haha and I about forgot Exploding Zombies!
She had a few decent turn outs, but most of the fests of hers that I went to were poorly attended. Pretty sad really. She always had big plans and ideas, but apparently couldn’t get the word out. She always brought killer bands to Michigan and pulled it off, always bummed me out that the shows were poorly supported. And Camelot Music.... that place was the shining star of my childhood and teen years. They always favor in the killer stuff. Thanks for watching!
All great choices! Dismember, Entombed, Grave, Morgoth and many others in your list. I have them all til this day. Definitely pioneers from the early days of death metal! Thanks for sharing brother
Love the vids! I think a lot of us that are about the same age (I'm 43) that have been into metal a long time probably share a similar path. Loved the Gorefest record when it came out, still my favorite from them today. Man, Unorthodox is one of my ultimate 10 ten records, got the cassette back in the mid 90's and it blew my mind. Same with the 1st Amorphis LP. Man, this video made me take a trip back to my highschool days, discovering bands from the Death is Just the Beginning and At Deaths Door comps (among others)! Such a glorious time discovering all the dm bands that were coming out, the embryonic days of Nuclear Blast, Road Runner and Relapse! Awesome time to be into metal. Being in Hawaii we barely had any shows so it was all compilations and Metal Maniacs.
Just pure gold this one. Have them all, except the first demo you showed and in the Eyes of Death. And I guess you could have pulled out 20 more in the same video, at least. Thanks a bunch, made me inspired after a boring day. Stay safe.
Glad I could close the day for you with a bit of entertainment. We must be around the same age since we share similar musical collections. Thanks so much for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgy Maybe, I'm 46, started my metal-journey around 82, as far as I remember. With Iron Maiden, Ac/Dc etc. Very glad that I could follow the evolution of metal in the 80's. Very special time to grow up in for us metalheads.
Great video! I don´t think I´ll do a response video for that because it would probably look exactly the same. You picked the exact same albums that got me into DM and still are my favorites of the genre. As you are a big Voivod fan, go back and listen to "Feel sorry..." by Morgoth! I love that record. I´ve been lucky enough to see Edge of Sanity WITH Swanö on the "Crimson" tour two times and later on withoout him on the "Cryptic" record! Indeed you should have picked "...for Victory", great great album! When they were touring for that one, they had Van Drunen singing. ...oh "Slowly we rot" is another groundbreaking one! Stay healthy!!!
“Feel sorry for the Fanatic”.... I did mention that album in this video. I remember being initially turned off by it as it was so different, but it quickly grew on me. So catchy and weird. You’ve seen some great shows my friend! I did interview Swano on the phone for my zine back in the day. What a super nice guy. Was a treat to pick his brain. Thanks for watching man!
Wow what a coincidence, I also live in Northern MI and I will drive 60mins to GR just because I love Vertigo Records. I know & talked to Herm many times he's a very nice guy. I love Vertigo particularly because the metal selection is very good. I have found so much great records and CDs from there, lots of underground stuff too like Convulse, Incubus, first two ep's from Morgoth, Carnage, Merciful Fate Bootlegs & Mayhem Bootlegs.
James Huseby not sure. It hasn’t been discussed yet. I know Marc G with a C and some of his friends (Metal Mickey and Cloudy Milder) are doing a stream on Friday if memory serves. Glad you like the streams! They have been fun.
Killer list. Morgue I found only a decade ago, it was a hidden gem for me. Gorefest False easily their best for me, I got it in the late 90s and loved Reality When you Die and that kickdrum intro to From Ignorance to Oblivion smashed it. Domination was my first MA but I remember distinctly buying Altars second and wondering what I was getting myself into with the tracks on the end labelled "remix". Me in 1997 fully expected techno from that description lol. Love that Morgoth double EP, another I got into much much later. My first Incantation was Diabolical Conquest was my first Incantation, I think I got it close to release the same day I picked up Nile's debut. LOVE Immolation. Left Hand Path is the only Entombed I bother with; it's great but I found Dismember far more interesting. The opening riff to Override the Overture could melt glaciers. Love Karelian Isthmus, Black Embrace is awesome. First three Sinister albums slay - the video for Leviathan got me into them, as hilarious as it is. Good stuff mate.
You’re so right.... that opening riff to Override the Overture is a searing strike. Such a crushing statement and perfect way to open up that album. It seems we are in the same page with the classics. I really miss the older death metal days where riffs were more important than endless reverb and a cavernous sound. Thanks so much for sharing and watching! Take care.
Hell yah. Solid picks. just missing bolt thrower 😉.And that last live stream reminded me that I needed the first Helloween album so I ordered the lp(along with 6 others) from earache last night. Looking forward to the black metal video.
Which other 6 Helloween albums did you order? Man I have been obsessed with that band. I completely fell in love with the Deris era and throughout the course of 2 months, bought everything with him on it. Definitely more commercial, but still definitely Helloween and completely great. BM vid coming soonish
Again, all really good picks Marty. My early days of discovering death metal were definitely pretty much U.S. and Sweden. Although the very first death metal album I ever bought was Mortuary’s Blackened Images. As a complete blind buy in a cut out bin at a Sam Goody. I wasn’t ready for it yet as my whole world was Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica etc. I hated that fucking thing. But a year later a senior in my high school, I was Sophomore threw me an Obituary Cause of Death cassette and said “here try this kid” I loved it! I went back dig out that Mortuary record and it clicked! A week later I was buying Cannibal Corpse Butchered at Birth, Deicide’s self titled and it was over at that point I was all in!
That Mortuary album never clicked with me for some reason. I own it. Should dig it out and check it. Maybe my perception will change on it. Funny.... I got it in a cut out bin as well. They must have pressed a shit load of them, or it sold poorly.
Marty Worm I want to. Just need to figure out the tech side of it. Not needing to banger tv quality level as far as camera work. But I should learn a basic editing program, and video and sound quality but I’m getting closer to making the plunge.
Max Vorhees your cell phone will work just fine. After all this time, I’m just now starting to screw with editing. Fade outs and what not. I still suck, but don’t want to go too crazy with it. I think some folks get a bit carried away with it. Seriously.... start with using your phone. See how you like it before taking a serious financial plunge. Especially in these troubled times!
I’m a fan for sure, but my collection only skims the more widely know stuff. Not sure how interesting that would be as I never set enough money aside to get into the underground of it.
@@HeavyMetallurgy, same here. I have a couple comps with more Underground bands but that was about as deep as I got. With the exception of Nine Inch Nails, and Ministry I feel everything else was Underground haha, even KMFDM were Underground even though they are a top tier Industrial band haha.
Hell yes. Check out their debut, Mindloss and also their final album, Rise to Ruin. Both great. Mindloss may be a bit immature, but it’s great for the era. Thanks for watching.
I don't know why but I missed Grave, but knew of them so to speak, picked up Still Hating Life on tape a couple of months or so ago and was really confused when it was some kind of mix of OSDM and Pantera. This was a great idea for a video, I will try making one of my own.
I look forward to your video and just subscribed. Never seen your videos before but shall dig in. Yes, your jumping in point to the Grave discography was on a turd album. Definitely dig in to the first 3. Such classic albums! Thanks a bunch for watching!
All gold, Marty. Every one was a go to for me. Wish I still had the Death Is Just the Beginning and Grindcrusher (which I had on cassette) comps. Got to see Sinister and Unleashed in the way back.
I missed so many damn shows when I was younger from living up here. It used to bug me, but every time I go to a big city, I’m reminded why I live here. A lot less stress! I made up for it though over the years. Going to fests really expands the talent we get to see.
@@HeavyMetallurgy I missed a ton too but glad I caught the bands I did. FWIW, Unleashed were sloppy drunk. They were fun but I recall their boozing more than the music.
Dam-Ian P I don’t get how bands can even attempt to play extreme music drunk. I tried. It’s not pretty. Then there was bands like Summon from Michigan.... every time I saw them, they were trashed and completely devastating. For them, the drinker they were, the better they were. Weird!
Funny, watching those videos seems like all of you guys were into now classic extreme bands even back in your teens. Back then I was mainly into Guns'N'Rose, Aerosmith, Cinderella and huge on the Grunge scene. My love for extreme metal came later in my 30s
Count Deangeli as a kid... it was Kiss. It went to Dio, Maiden, Sabbath and continued from there. then MTV happened and it added other non metal musical styles to my overall make-up. It hasn’t been all extreme metal! Thanks so much for sharing and watching!
I remember my 12th b-day in 1992 and I got Cursed, Necroticism and Blessed Are the Sick tapes that day for a present. What a glorious day that was, best one ever haha
Mindloss For Victory... Left hand path Cross the Styx Eaten back to life Spiritual healing Altars of madness When the sky turns black Pierced from within Transcend the Rubicon Were among my first listens. Lived in a small town where no cities were. Sometimes somebody would just give me an album or sometimes I'd find one but I had only a few friends into metal back then. Was already into thrash and just rock and metal by the time I first heard death and black metal. It was kind of frowned upon. Some of my friends who were into metal kind of stuck with Pantera or Metallica through the 90s. So if I started playing something a little wild the whole crowd would shut me down . One friend I had only for a short time had an incredible collection. A lot Cannibal corpse, Deicide, Obituary....he showed me a lot of great albums. I remember we went camping once and a whole mob of people shut us down and insisted on Suger Ray and Everclear music. You have some great classics Sir! My favorites today are: Screams of anguish 4th Crusade False Clandestine Unholy cult Majesty and decay Imperial doom Tales from the thousand lakes Symbolic Heartwork Just so many great bands and albums. Cheers 🍻
KILLER list! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with coming up with Death Metal with this comment. I had very few friends into DM back in the day, but the few that were, were VERY instrumental in feeding me all the right info and introducing me to the right bands.
I enjoyed the video. It's cool that you gave props to Sinister. One thing that caught my eye during the video was the poster to the right of the Skinny Puppy poster. Would you please tell me what it is? Thank you
All the way on Gorefest False. They did some good ones but never topped False. Ed Warby's drumming on that one always stood out. Thanks for all the content lately!
Mindloss is more primitive, but still rules. I’d say give Rise to Ruin another shot, for it is a true return to form. And you’re welcome on the content. It has been fun.
Mr. Davidian beware! Their first 2 are amazing. Their last 2 are great. Pretty much all the rest in the middle are not very good. At all. Especially “Erase”. Groovy and super stupid. Thanks for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgy I'll keep that in mind sir. The set was such a good price, even if half of it sucks, it looks I'll still get my money's worth. Cheers!!!
Noah Mosher I never thought about it back then, but man these days I can’t believe a shop with a name like that doesn’t pull a bit of controversy. Haha
Holy shit this rules! Thanks for the heads up! Have you heard Weapons to Hunt? Another band featuring old Sinister members. Great CD. Check it out ruclips.net/video/TpmEsYYcs6A/видео.html
I'm curious whether you have more Finnish death metal in your collection. Did bands like Convulse and Demigod ever reach your ears back in the early days?
Oh, I love Dismember! You notice that nobody talks about Necrophagist anymore? Pardon me if I spelled that wrong. I remember in the 2000s how they were very well-respected in death metal.
Adem Can Vaner well they faded away. In a fast paced scene with hundreds of bands coming out, a band these days has to stay in the public eye to stay on their mind. Or be super influential.
Dismember is a personal favorite, as well. Dave Blomqvist is a massive inspiration to my guitar playing. Necrophagist caught a lot of people by surprise, for sure, just due to the sheer technicality / brutality & classical influences (something you don't typically see in death metal). They failed to stay relevant, though, and have consequently been forgotten by most. -Ben Fo
@@forgemastermetal I agree. 😊 Well, Mehmet got into another career with BMW that made him turn his back to music. But, in the 2000s, Necrophagist was almost essential.
Grew up buying tapes myself, they pretty much sucked ha.i always had crappy tape decks that chewed everything. The good times were making compilations and swapping with mates. All my cassettes are pretty much gone, down to the last few as i sell them off. Will probably replace the beloved stuff on cd. edit: grind crusher was a massive comp for me too , hearing chapel of ghouls for the first time wow
When CDs started coming in, I kept buying tapes as I could get 2 for the same price as 1 CD. More bang for the buck. I miss a good comp. so much exploration and fun. I guess we still have the classics. Thanks for watching!!
Jesus, your content is becoming impossible to keep up with (in a good way).... everything here rules. I always struggle picking between Mortal Throne of Nazarene or Diabolical Conquest. Both are flawless. Here In After used to be a staple for me but it's been fucking ages since I listened to it. I don't even have a copy of it anymore ha which I probably ought to rectify. Also I feel like I'm in the minority in preferring the "censored" cover of Severed Survival, that record is phenomenal. And I have to side with you in preferring Karelian Isthmus over Tales, my favorite is Privilege of Evil, though. Cross the Styx is GODLY.
Why in the hell was the OG cover censored anyway? It wasn’t particularly gory. It was cartoonish. It was the worst thing about that godly album. Trying to pick between those Incantation albums really isn’t fair. Haha. It’s all so good. Pure quality. And most of the Immolation albums are so damn good. Those guys also established their sound and stuck with it. Thanks man!
Out of Season ⚔ Speaking of dungeon synth, I thought I heard you say that you made posters for North East Dungeon Siege? Is there any way to buy one from you?
Nice list. Love Cross the Styx and Diabolical Conquest.Top 10 90's under rated DM releases according to me. In no order Vader- De Profundus The Chasm - Procession into the Infraworld Monstrosity - Imperial Doom Deceased - Fearless Undead Machines Asphyx - Last One on Earth Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind Immolation - Dawn of Possession Cancer - Sins of Mankind Dying Fetus - Killing on Adrenaline Necrophobic - Nocturnal Silence I was thinking about starting making videos but I can't compete with all you motherfuckers on RUclips. I'm not as under ground as I use to be.
This was an enjoyable show. Most of this music I know, but I checked out and purchased Baphoment and Morgoth based on them being mentioned here. Some death metal favorites of mine... For Those Once Loyal, Bolt Thrower Honour Valour Pride, Bolt Thrower Mercenary, Bolt Thrower ...for Victory, Bolt Thrower Grave Damnation, Necros Christos Doom of the Occult, Necros Christos Nine Graves, Necros Christos Necroticism, Carcass Heartwork, Carcass The Bleeding, Cannibal Corpse Torture, Cannibal Corpse Red Before Black, Cannibal Corpse Domination, Morbid Angel Gateways of Annihilation, Morbid Angel Satanica, Behemoth Demigod, Behemoth Evangelion, Behemoth The Satanist, Behemoth Supply of Flesh Came Just in Time, Craniotomy Blood Offerings, Necrot Goatlord, Goatlord Necrosis, Cadaver
I really want to recommend Sinister’s Cross the Styx to you, for I love that album so much, but it’s very tech thrash inspired structurally which makes the songs seem pretty obtuse. But the riffs and vocals are so good, that album always had an impact on me. Not sure if you’d connect to it. One that just came to mind is Crimson Relic - Purgatory’s Reign. There’s a definite Celtic Frost element to the movement and plod in the riffs, but it’s such an organic, warm and memorable death metal album, you may like it. Spin it before you buy though!
Say your think about current bloated, hype, and saturated stinky death and black scenery with many of tattooed children and aimless ,raw" black metal with abnormal lacking compositions, please! Yes!
I'm glad you included Entombed's 'Left Hand Path'! I NEVER get tired of hearing it! \m/

Weird!
new to the channel, amazing albums, hands down!
I'm glad Unleashed-where no life dwells made it on..it was my first DM album I got into and I still love it above everything else to this day
I don’t love it above everything else, but it holds up well as a unique sound and good writing. Thanks for watching.
like an ever-flowing stream, and altars of Madness.. for the win nothing can touch these two albums I've heard them all believe me I've heard them
I remember my 12th b-day in 1992 and I got Cursed, Necroticism and Blessed Are the Sick tapes that day for a present. What a glorious day that was, best one ever haha
That sounds like a perfect birthday for sure! That’s a lot of awesome for a 12 ur old to take in! Thanks for watching
Mindloss
For Victory...
Left hand path
Cross the Styx
Eaten back to life
Spiritual healing
Altars of madness
When the sky turns black
Pierced from within
Transcend the Rubicon
Were among my first listens.
My favorites today are:
Screams of anguish
4th Crusade
False
Clandestine
Unholy cult
Majesty and decay
Imperial doom
Tales from the thousand lakes
Symbolic
Heartwork
Just so many great bands and albums.
Thank you
Upper right is a Macabra poster. Under that is an Incantation - The Infernal Storm promo poster. Thanks for watching!
@@HeavyMetallurgy Thank you. The artwork really caught my eye. I looked into it and found it was a Dan Seagrave cover. Nice!
Pretty good
All the way on Gorefest False.
I had never even heard of Gorefest before seeing this video. Now I'm ordering a 6 disc set on Amazon and the video isn't even over.
Cheers!!!
There's a vinyl solution in San Mateo, or at least there was until a few weeks ago.
Noah Mosher I never thought about it back then, but man these days I can’t believe a shop with a name like that doesn’t pull a bit of controversy. Haha
Regarding Sinister. Have you checked out Neocaesar? It's basically the old Sinister lineup minus Aad. You should give it a listen.
Holy shit this rules! Thanks for the heads up! Have you heard Weapons to Hunt? Another band featuring old Sinister members. Great CD. Check it out ruclips.net/video/TpmEsYYcs6A/видео.html
Scream Bloody Gore is not only a great album but the cover art is my favorite
I completely agree! Thanks for watching!
I'm curious whether you have more Finnish death metal in your collection. Did bands like Convulse and Demigod ever reach your ears back in the early days?
I was late to Convulse, but yes I have Demigod, Demilich and of course older Sentenced. The Finns have a very unique take on the genre for sure.
BAD ASS MATERIAL.. CHEERS🥃🥃
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you like it!
Desceased... Are such an under appreciated band
Dude. Get out of my head! Sick video!
Haha. Thanks for watching.
Fuckin GOREFEST \,,/
That first 2 and the last albums are SUPERIOR death metal!
I agree with you on the cover, the censored is awesome.
Thanks man!
Out of Season ⚔
Speaking of dungeon synth, I thought I heard you say that you made posters for North East Dungeon Siege? Is there any way to buy one from you?
I did not print the posters. I do print the shirts for Out Of Season though. Great label! Thanks for watching.
I wanna say that Morgue was from Chicago or maybe Milwaukee? Somewhere with cool accents.
I think you’re right! They sound too different sonically to be lumped in with the east coast DM sound.
Corchado's vocals on Diabolical Conquest are greatest of all time.
Such a sick and unique performance. Thanks for watching.
Cross The Styx is the best damn death metal album ever recorded in my opinion
Yessss!
Nice list. Love Cross the Styx and Diabolical Conquest.Top 10 90's under rated DM releases according to me. In no order
Vader- De Profundus
The Chasm - Procession into the Infraworld
Monstrosity - Imperial Doom
Deceased - Fearless Undead Machines
Asphyx - Last One on Earth
Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind
Immolation - Dawn of Possession
Cancer - Sins of Mankind
Dying Fetus - Killing on Adrenaline
Necrophobic - Nocturnal Silence
I was thinking about starting making videos but I can't compete with all you motherfuckers on RUclips. I'm not as under ground as I use to be.
There is no competition. The more the merrier. Great list man. Necrophibic? The Chasm? Monstrosity? All classics! Thanks for sharing.
This was an enjoyable show. Most of this music I know, but I checked out and purchased Baphoment and Morgoth based on them being mentioned here. Some death metal favorites of mine...

Supply of Flesh Came Just in Time, Craniotomy
Blood Offerings, Necrot
Goatlord, Goatlord
Necrosis, Cadaver
I really want to recommend Sinister’s Cross the Styx to you, for I love that album so much, but it’s very tech thrash inspired structurally which makes the songs seem pretty obtuse. But the riffs and vocals are so good, that album always had an impact on me. Not sure if you’d connect to it. One that just came to mind is Crimson Relic - Purgatory’s Reign. There’s a definite Celtic Frost element to the movement and plod in the riffs, but it’s such an organic, warm and memorable death metal album, you may like it. Spin it before you buy though!
altars, important yes, awesome yes, their best work , no
Say your think about current bloated, hype, and saturated stinky death and black scenery with many of tattooed children and aimless ,raw" black metal with abnormal lacking compositions, please! Yes!
I’ll be doing a list of meaningful black metal albums eventually. Thanks!
