Well Demolition is probably Priest worst album. There is nothing exciting unlike Jugulator, where you have Bullet Train and especially Catedhral Spires. 18. Demolition 17.Ram it Down 16. Rocka Rolla 15. Jugulator
Great Ranking !!! I love Judas Proest personally they're my second favorite of all time. And I will say that there's not a single bad album in their discography so really hard to rank. 18. Nostradamus 17. Rocka Rolla 16. British Steel 15. Demolition 14. Ram It Down 13. Point of Entry 12. Angel of Retribution 11. Jugulator 10. Firepower 9. Redeemer of Souls 8. Turbo 7. Sin After Sin 6. Killing Machine 5. Sad Wings of Destiny 4. Stained Class Honestly these next three are all top spot for me. It depends on the day and mood I'm in. 3. Painkiller 2. Defenders of the Faith 1. Screaming for Vengeance
1.Painkiller 2.Defenders of the Faith 3.Screaming for Vengence 4.&5. Killing Machine and Stained Class (can't pick between them) 6.Jugulator 7.Sad Wings of Destiny 8.Fire Power 9.British Steel 10.Sin After Sin 11.Turbo 12.Angel of Retribution 13.Redeemer of Souls 14.Point of Entry 15.Roka Rolla Still haven't listened to Demolition, Ram it Down or Nostradamus
1. Defenders of the faith 2. Redeemer of Souls if I rearrange to 9 or 10 songs (not cheating in my book, in this day'n’age) 3. Painkiller 4. Nostradamus if I rearange to 9 or 10 songs (bit more cheat cuz its a conceptalbum but o well) 5. Tie between Sad Wings of Destiny and Stained Class
All due respect, I’ll disagree with a lot here. Nothing personal, just opinions/ I don’t care about the exact rankings. But the concept of ‘I wasn’t there so I can’t appreciate it as much’.... so do you not appreciate Sabbath, zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc. I’m 49, I love music from before my day, and I buy current death and black metal. When it came out has little to do with quality. I’m not totally ignorant to the idea, I’ve got that special place for my first for a band. Born Again was first new Sabbath release I got. I love it, but it ain’t better than the Ozzy records. Demolition ranked above ANYTHING other than maybe Nostradamus? Turbo up there? Ok, you said it’s NOT a hair metal style record? Wow. It gets so much shit because it’s a pop record. Private property, Parental Guidance, Rock around the world? Dude. Pop metal. Serious pop metal. Hey, what ever tickles your pickle. I get your statement about not being the same, but I’m not gonna be different if what I feel is the same; then it is.
1. Stained Class 2. Sin After Sin 3. Sad Wings of Destiny 4. Hell bent For Leather 5. Painkiller 6. British Steel 7. Rocka Rolla 8. Screaming for Vengeance 9. Defenders of the Faith 10. Angel of Retribution To give my list some context I saw Priest live for the first time on The Hell Bent for Leather tour in '79... Turbo, Ram it Down are SHIT- cheesy, 80's pop metal. Point of Entry was a huge disappointment for me when it came out in '81. Title track on Nostradamus is great, rest of it puts me to sleep. Couple songs on Jugulator are pretty heavy and cool. Demolition don't care about at all. Heard a couple tracks of Firepower- sounded good but predictable like Redeemer of Souls. Priest definitely has tried many different things over the years, some worked, some didn't. They definitely are the Metal Gods!!!
Interesting list, thanks for your top 10 and putting it in context, always helps to understand where a person is coming from when it comes to the order 🤘
Very good ranking. I like random songs from the 70s era but as you say the real Priest sound was yet to be fully developed. Painkiller is awesome top to bottom. Flawless as you say. Firepower in the top 5. Defenders and Screaming undeniable. Hell Bent up there. The two Ripper albums which you sort of praised I just cannot stand. Absolutely forgot about melody altogether and trying to sound like Pantera hehe! Rocka Rolla which sounds like a slightly proggy blues band is mostly weird but young Rob’s vocals being the only redeeming value for me. Mostly a fair ranking but I also agree with the shit you’re gonna get for loving Turbo too much! 😂🤘
Cmon Turbo isn’t that bad! But I like a lot of the lighter stuff too so although it might stick out a bit in their discography it doesn’t stick out in my taste lol cheers bud!
Great thumbnail lol. Right, this ranking i can totally relate to. I don't gravitate towards the 70's stuff myself. Like you say i think it's ok stuff but you had to be there or have been into them nearer the time. I'd never even heard the debut or the Ripper Owen ones but i don't love them anywhere near enough to then go off the beaten track. I'd say my top 5 would be : 1.Painkiller 2.Firepower 3.Screaming 4.Angel of 5.Redeemer Good work sir.
That’s a killer top 5 mike, I wouldn’t even recommend you go back and listen to some of the others because I know you probably wouldn’t like them lol you’ve got essentials right there
I have been on a year long discovery of Judas Priest listening to their albums, but I have not listen through all of them yet and I need to listen more closely to the ones I have. I can´t really criticize Priest ranking videos, I just appreciate the different opinions about them. As of now I think my favorites are Angel of retribution, Point of entry, Fire power and Painkiller. I need to listen to the Ripper Owens stuff still. Very cool video Scott, these kind of ranking vids are always nice! Take care mate! 🤘🏻
4 great albums mate, with a discography that big though it’s a hard task to get through them and take them all in properly but you’re obviously off to a good start! Cheers mate
Hi Scott!! cool ranking and tough one too, mostly because of their 70's recotds that sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve if you're not into the sound of the 70's and the Ripper albums, they try to sound like something they're not, however i have not heard them in a proper way.... Ram it Down, i would ranked it lower and Painkiller would be around 5th or 6th, like a lot Firepower but i think its a bit to long, imo. cheers and take care
The ripper albums are good but especially Jugulator is a little confused sounding and not the Priest sound that they are known for but at that time they probably didn’t know what direction to go in. Cheers Cristian!
Excellent video. Can’t say I completely agree with your entire ranking but my ranking would be fairly close. We have the same #1 pick for sure and A few others in the top 5. I really like Redeemer of Souls, what an excellent album, this would be higher in my ranking. Cheers 🍻
16. Turbo 15. Point Of Entry 14. Ram It Down 13. Nostradamus 12. Redeemer Of Souls 11. Sin After Sin 10. Stained Class 9. Fire Power 8. Killing Machine/Hellbent For Leather 7. Angel Of Retribution 6. British Steel 5. Rocka Rolla 4. Screaming For Vengeance 3. Sad Wings Of Destiny 2. Painkiller 1. Defenders Of The Faith I'm one of those rare fans that loves Priest's debut, especially Run Of The Mill. I agree with you on Stained Class. Most metalheads love this album, but other than the phenomenal Beyond The Realms Of Death & Better By You, Better Than Me (which I believe is a cover) this album just doesn't do it for me. I hate to say your wrong when it's a matter of taste, but c'mon man!!! Sad Wings Of Destiny is such a goddamn classic! Victim Of Changes! Dreamer Deceiver! The Ripper! Tyrant! This is on the Mount Rushmore of Metal with Black Sabbath's first 5 records. I didn't include the Blaze Bailey albums, because they don't count for me. I've never listened to them or given them an honest chance.
My list keeps changing all the time but I think I got a good list here 1. Painkiller 10/10 2. Defenders of the Faith 10/10 3. Ram it Down 9.8/10 4. Turbo 9.8/10 5. Stained Class 9.8/10 6. Sad Wings of Destiny 9.7/10 7. Sin After Sin 9.6/10 8. Screaming for Vengeance 9.5/10 9. Firepower 9.5/10 10. Demolition 9.5/10 11. Jugulator 9.2/10 12. British Steel 9/10 13. Redeemer of Souls 9/10 14. Angel of Retribution 8/10 15. Point of Entry 8/10 16. Hell Bent for Leather 8/10 17. Nostradamus 6/10 18. Rocka Rolla 6/10
I was unsure if Firepower would pip Painkiller or not, lol. I don't have Painkiller yet. Probably the highest praised Priest album that I don't yet have in the collection. I agree that Firepower is astounding. It's just solid and class. A good ranking I'd say. Nice that Turbo and Ram It Down are in lofty places. I really enjoy Turbo too....was cool watching this as I'm currently reading K.K. Downing's book. And he says similar things about Turbo to what you hinted at.... it was about the 80's good times, the band were well received in America, by this point, songs were written in hot summer time, the whole girls, cars, beer thing....he also says the change in sound was due to the introduction of the Synth-guitar that they used.... which again was just a sign of the times.... it was the mid-80's and this was a mid-80's radio-friendly rock sound. I can't say what my top album would be as I don't have them all yet, but from what I've got, Firepower, Turbo and Screaming For Vengeance are very near the top. Redeemer is also excellent. And.... 😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘
The 70's Priest does nothing for me, cool ranking, Turbo is underrated and my favorite i am odd that way, so my top 3 would be "Turbo" "Firepower" "Ram it down" Cheers
Priest is hard to rank. They have been around so long and have so many styles. I love rockarola more than redeemers, nostradamus, POI, or Turbo. For 1974 that album kicks ass.You can't compare it to other albums that came later
Some of the most praised JP albums tend to lose me around halfway where the first half is immense and the rest loses steam. That goes for albums like Painkiller, Defenders and Ram It Down. My top 5 five at the moment is: 1. Firepower 2. Sad Wings Of Destiny 3. Stained Class 4. Killing Machine 5. Painkiller
First off, absolutely brilliant not having Turbo last, far too many people dismiss that album as lame but it is class. Second off, Turbo ahead of British Steel are you mental!! lol. Thirdly, I just don't get the love for Painkiller, Halford struggles with vocals throughout that album, very screechy, I think it's his worse singing-wise, great music wrong vocalist - how's that for controversial?! I can't believe your opinions differ from mine, this is outrageuos, I should unsubscribe! Great ranking mate, love it when they don't conform to everyone elses norm!
That is very surprising about Painkiller, it’s just packed with awesome tracks and to be honest I never had a problem with the vocals just Halford at his best through these ears! Your ears are wrong! 😂 but i like that we’re not all the same In taste, it mixes it up a bit. Cheers Andy!
@@therockscout8465 Painkiller (the song) vocally is probably the worst, he just screeches his way through it. have you heard the live version on Battle Cry, it's nails down a chalkboard.
@@therockscout8465 Totally agree with you on Leather Rebel. I love that song, and it's probably my favorite track off of Painkiller. And Metal Meltdown is the weakest track, and it ain't even that bad, lol. Battle Cry is my favorite Priest song after 1990. Such a great track. I haven't heard the live version, but Halford's in his 70's. His best screams are behind him.
Agreed mate turbo is a really good up beat rock album I would go as far as to say turbo would be in my top 5....I thought you were very kind to jugulator terrible album to me to thrashy and tuneless and sounds nothing like the priest stuff that came before it and thank god it sounds nothing like the stuff since halford came back either
My personal ranking: Top six: Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, Redeemer Of Souls, Firepower Not concrete: Sin After Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Defenders Of The Faith, Turbo, Ram It Down, Angel Of Retribution Bottom four: Rocka Rolla (the debut - not a terrible album, but not the Judas Priest you know), Nostradamus (great concept, and admire the ambition, but the execution was a mess: should have been a single disc), Jugulator and Demolition (Ripper Owens did a tremendous job on vocals, but these were a mess: both should have been cut by about a third, or combined into a single album)
Very interesting. Don't agree with you with the 70s era, I think it's some of their best material although it's such a tough band to rank. But good to see ram it down so high, definitely their most underrated album, I just listened to it this afternoon and it's so good. The last 2 new albums are also justifiably high. Also good not to see the ripper era shoved down at the bottom, they definitely hold their own against some Halford era ones. Not sure on my top ones, something I'm working on. 🤘🤘
Can’t bitch without putting my ranking, right? Unlike some comment down there, I have heard every record, multiple times.(WTF, I just saw your 2.... I love Firepower, but it’s rips and pieces of all their old stuff, you can’t rank it over that. Stunned, and that’s a record I really like.) Feel free to rip away on my list. 18. Demolition 17. Nostradamus 16. RockaRolla -notable jump in quality(I like a couple demo tunes, 17 isn’t offensive..or inspiring, 16 isn’t them yet 15 turbo 14 point of entry 13 ram it down 12 Jugulator 11 angel of retribution 11-15 very different, similar quality(C+/D-) 10 redeemer 9 firepower(both 9 and 10 better than I expected. Firepower was outstanding. British Steel, SFV and a pinch of painkiller for a fantastic record) 8 killing machine 7 sin after sin 6 screaming for vengeance 5 British Steel 4 painkiller 3 sad Wings 2 Stained Class 1 Defenders 1-6 are separated by the thinnest margin, and may vary based on mood, especially since their sound varies so greatly.
That’s what these rankings are for, to generate discussion and hear people’s opinions. You can bitch all you want but it’s not gona change my opinion on certain albums. I like what I like and you like what you like, if everyone had the same order it wouldn’t be much fun would it?! I appreciate you getting your ranking in, obviously some I disagree with but that’s what it’s all about. 🤘😉🤘
@@therockscout8465 Oh hell yes, I'm not trying your mind. I don't care how bizarre I might think it is. Hey, I like St. Anger, Diabolus in Musica, The Burning Red, Volume 8. I'm supposed to hate all that. So thats why i said on my first comment, nothing personal. I get nutty sometimes, but I hope never insulting. I'm gonna go watch more of your videos, cuz I'm sure I'm gonna think you've got more crazy ass opinions. and ill probably comment. and you can comment back at what a fuckwit i am. it's all good, talking about music is ALL good. it's better than more COVID and Trump talk, I think everyone can agree on that!!

Turbo and Demolition are better than Stained Class and Sad Wings? It's blasphemy.
😂
Agreed mate turbo is a really good up beat rock album I would go as far as to say turbo would be in my top 5....I thought you were very kind to jugulator terrible album to me to thrashy and tuneless and sounds nothing like the priest stuff that came before it and thank god it sounds nothing like the stuff since halford came back either
My personal ranking:
Top six: Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, Redeemer Of Souls, Firepower
Not concrete: Sin After Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Defenders Of The Faith, Turbo, Ram It Down, Angel Of Retribution
Bottom four: Rocka Rolla (the debut - not a terrible album, but not the Judas Priest you know), Nostradamus (great concept, and admire the ambition, but the execution was a mess: should have been a single disc), Jugulator and Demolition (Ripper Owens did a tremendous job on vocals, but these were a mess: both should have been cut by about a third, or combined into a single album)
With the 70s era it’s not that they are bad albums but just not an overall sound I’m a massive fan of. Cheers bud!
@@therockscout8465 ah right. Each decade of theirs does have their own sound. Guess it depends on what you like. 🤘
Can’t bitch without putting my ranking, right? Unlike some comment down there, I have heard every record, multiple times.(WTF, I just saw your 2.... I love Firepower, but it’s rips and pieces of all their old stuff, you can’t rank it over that. Stunned, and that’s a record I really like.)
Feel free to rip away on my list.
18. Demolition
17. Nostradamus
16. RockaRolla
-notable jump in quality(I like a couple demo tunes, 17 isn’t offensive..or inspiring, 16 isn’t them yet
15 turbo
14 point of entry
13 ram it down
12 Jugulator
11 angel of retribution
11-15 very different, similar quality(C+/D-)
10 redeemer
9 firepower(both 9 and 10 better than I expected. Firepower was outstanding. British Steel, SFV and a pinch of painkiller for a fantastic record)
8 killing machine
7 sin after sin
6 screaming for vengeance
5 British Steel
4 painkiller
3 sad Wings
2 Stained Class
1 Defenders
1-6 are separated by the thinnest margin, and may vary based on mood, especially since their sound varies so greatly.
Good stuff 🤘I haven’t listened to everything by Priest but I think we would be fairly similar in ranking.
Yeah I gravitate towards the 80s and the more recent releases naturally, those albums just have that sound that I look for. Cheers Brendan!
If someone thinks rocka rola sucks then they have no brains or depth
