When I watched this episode on my tv, the time the helicopter flies over her when she wakes up, a helicopter flew over my own house at the same time and I felt the rotors shaking my house. It was wild.
i always love watching when one person knows what’s gonna happen and the other doesn’t, the person that knows what’s coming always makes the same face of bracing yourself 😭
If you think about it, Joel's watch broke the moment he lost his daughter. So every time he looks down, he sees the exact time, and moment, he lost his daughter.
There were times Bella and Pedro were sounding so similar to game Ellie and Joel that it had me going "Oh that's cool I can hear a bit of Ashley and Troy." But then there was Gabriel Luna. He sounds so much like Jeffrey Pierce's Tommy it was freaking me out a little.
I agree, I actually thought the same about Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker. I don't remember Tommy well enough but given my experience, I definitely take your word for it. This team did an amazing job
amazed how much they kept from the game, right down to the lines....casting was spot on..."Tommy help me!!" gets me everytime even while watching reactions....Pedro should get some awards just for that scene, can just feel the anguish there
They made this godamn show to work perfectly with someone watching it who’s seen the game WITH someone who hasn’t. It’s like they knew this thing would be so good that a fan would pull along a new viewer to say watch this
@Fandom Zone, 42:58 I don't think the Millers were infected. As you pointed out, this series starts out with the epidemiologist speaking of fungus taking over. The story than fast forwards to the Millers and tells us the story through Sarah's eyes. She planned on making breakfast pancakes, but couldn't because they didn't have pancake mix. Tommy goes into the fridge looking for something to eat and picks up something in Tupperware, gives it a sniff and puts it back--did it smell off? The Adlers offer the Millers some biscuits, which the Millers weren't interested in. At. All. When Sarah arrives to the Adler's after school, she was excited to hear about them making cookies, but immediately looses interest in them when she hears about the raisins. Sarah and Joel didn't eat a birthday cake because Joel forgot to buy one on his way home. What do all these foods have in common? YEAST! The Millers seemed to have avoided infection by avoiding yeast the day the world went to $#!+--Joel and Tommy are still around 20 years later. What a great adaptation this turned out to be! The trailers gave me hope that it wouldn't suck like every other adaptation before it, but I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much from this. They had me hooked from the breakfast banter! I can't wait for the next episode to drop. We are just hours away. Let's go!
1. The people affected by the fungus are still alive and have no control over their own bodies, but they are aware of what they are doing. In the game, the runners even cry. The only goal of the infected is to spread the fungus. So they do not eat their victims, but spread the fungus through the tentacles in their mouth. 2. The fungus seems to have been transmitted through food. More specifically, about an ingredient in the cookies. This ingredient comes from another country. The country was initially mentioned on the radio. Joel and Sarah talked about cookies the whole time, but didn't eat any, but their neighbours did. 3. The actress who plays Marlene is the same one who modeled for Marlene in the game and lent her voice. 4. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (Joel and Elli in the game) got cameos in the series. Troy as David's henchman and Ashley as Elli's mother, which is really epic. 5. What the scientist said at the beginning about fungi and ants is all really true. That's where the inspiration came from.
Hey guys ! The eighties song at the end is DEPECHE MODE 'Never Let Me Down Again' which seems related to that épisode thème when you listen to the lyrics 😉
Since you appreciate the details, it seems the initial infection happens through infected flour. Notice all the missed opportunities to consume various foods like the pancakes in the morning, the biscuits from the neighbors, the cookies because of the raisins, and the forgotten cake in the evening. That being said, we never saw what she did with the cookies in her backpack. Maybe she still ate one until Joel came back home and her fate was sealed either way. I also liked that in the daytime intro they showed that Sarah is about as curious, smart and cheeky as Ellie. It's not quite as obviously presented within the game, so it's good for passive viewers to maybe pick up on the similarities of their characters (even if Sarah didn't had that potty mouth of Ellie).
@@IAmThatBit-- They're for the following infections past the initial outbreak but were too unrealistic for the show, as they'd mean that humanity would have basically no chance of survival. Spores IRL are basically everywhere, it's impossible not to breath them in. Instead we now got the new mouth tendrils for spreading.
@@Dark__Thoughts it still doesn't explain why a country as rich in flour as the USA is would be importing flour from the other side of the world? . Makes no sense when you factor in importing costs, travel time and FDA inspection when you can get the same product literally a few miles down the road The more likely explanation would be pilots and tourists travelling back from an extremely popular holiday destination like Indonesia during summer could have eaten either airline /airport or local food which contained the fungus and flown back home, Jakarta Airport is one of the biggest and busiest hubs in the world. Then it can spread a lot easier and once it evolves enough past the ingestion stage to bites and scratches and becomes more potent and aggressive. It would also explain why the planes were crashing, if planes were being diverted away from airports they would have attempted an emergency landing either on Texas plains or its over 350 miles of coastline rather than coming down like a ton of bricks on a crowded street. Don't forget this was after 9/11 where the only thing able to get through a cockpit door was an airline meal, those pilots were infected and struggling to fight the infection and fly the plane and eventually succumbed. It just seems to obvious and too early in the series to be as simple as everyone bought Indonesian flour but hopefully next episode we might get more clues pre credit sequence as it's happened in the first 2 episodes
Interesting to see both of your reactions to this, given your differing expectations, and totally understand the enthusiasm and appreciation for this opening episode! Sarah's death still hit hard, and I can't wait to see Joel and Ellie's relationship develop over the course of the series! Always fun to hear your thoughts!
Beard is looking fresh and nice bro! Love y’all channel and what a treat for y’all to be reacting to this! One of thee best games I’ve ever played! Currently playing it for a second time for ps5 and enjoying every second! Cheers to the next 8 weeks! Let’s enjoy the journey
I found out after i watched this episode that the actress who played Marlene is the same Voice Actor who played her for the game. I had no idea. Also Troy Baker (Joels VA) is hosting the podcasts if you haven't seen them (which are FANTASTIC) and I hear Ashley Johnson (Ellie's VA) is gonna be in the series somewhere. I'm glad they got the VA's back together to work on this in some way. I think that's really cool.
Great reaction, guys. I look forward to the next one. After watching the episode myself, I viewed quite a few reactions. I’m fascinated by a lot things here but two jump out for me. The first the utter excitement from gamers like yourself. It seems pretty unanimous worldwide that you guys all feel this adaptation is something really special. The other thing is how they get us to care so deeply about a character we’ve only known for less than 30 minutes. I saw it when I watch the episode myself. And I cheer up every single time I watch a reactor experience that moment as well. I’ve heard quite a few gamer say that the television version is even more painful than the game. How do you feel about that? In any case great reaction and I look forward to the next one. Thank you.
I think this hits in a different way knowing what’s coming and having the build up throughout the day shown. Seeing Sarah question the weird events going on plus the addition of stellar acting from Pedro, Gabriel and Nico added to it. We saw more of Joel and Sarah’s relationship and dynamic form as well to make us care even more. All of that compiled together really made the scene feel special
13:15 I cried at this point like a toddler, even though I saw the scene in the game and reactions x times and knew what was happening. I was very skeptical about Pedro and Bella as Joel and Ellie. But they do it incredibly well. It feels straight out of the game. Also the others ... Nico as Sarah, Gabriel as Tommy, Anna as Tess. All done great. Merle as Marlene anyway cause it's the same actress as in the game. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.
Love you guys reactions, have every version of this masterpiece of a game and beat it 4 times, but that beginning always gets me choked up,can’t wait to go along with this ride with you guys.
I really hope this series wins some awards! I know in movies, the Oscars tend to snub popular movies such as Superhero and most Sci-Fi. I think the Emmys will have more respect for the craft.
Awesome reaction! But hey, don't spoil it for your wife! There's moments where you slightly let it know what could happen (good/bad)! It's probably hard but try to really leave her blind!
Yeah, people have been comparing TLoU with TWD, but they're not the same. TLoU is focused on the relationship of the two main characters and how the environment affects them, while TWD is more about Survivors vs Environment. Sarah's death is much more heartbreaking than all the deaths in TWD.
I was enamored with the show right after the introductory scene about the disease discussion, good quick introduction to all the key characters of Episode 1. Fast forward: Sarah's death was really sucky and it hurt really bad because she was killed in a ridiculous Idiotic fashion... very intense scene.
I'm not a huge horror fan myself, and I'm definitely not a fan of jump scares, I watched an entire playthrough of the game when it came out after hearing how wonderfully written the story was ... by the end, it felt like I'd been hit by a bus, but in the best possible way. Given the source material, the show will probably break your heart before it'll give you nightmares.
Absolutely brilliant show! I haven't played the game, but my uncle has and he showed me a bit of it about 5 or 6 years ago. I saw the first ep and have watched around 15 reactions to it in the past 5 days. I also did a bit of research into the Cordyceps fungi. It is funny knowing that this show is derived from a game - you can pick the parts of the script written for NPC's! By the way, the character of Tess is played by Anna Torv, an Australian. Going forward, it might be a good idea to put the volume of the TV show up a bit (to the same level as your speaking voices) as there are people like me whose hearing may not be the best and don't wanna disturb the neighbours.
I've played both games many times and I watched this show with my girlfriend who's never played any of them so it was a fun time! also, beard game is strong my friend.
If you are about 50 feet from a town which literally has hundreds of infected being mind controlled by a infectious fungus, I ain't gonna take any chances.
With the show, we followed Sarah up to the point of the crash. Then our focus was on Joel. The POV in the truck was from Sarah's position. They brought so many things almost straight from the game into this show. After the crash, when Sarah was injured was about when control switched for the player from Sarah to Joel. I felt that was an interesting touch. Episode 1 gives so much information that a non-player is "pretty much completely up to speed" in a matter of a few minutes scattered throughout the episode, either before or as they need it, without dumping it on them with exposition and dialog that doesn't fit the show. I'm just so amped for this entire show. The actors killed it, the direction killed it, the set design, the seamless CGI, it was all just so good.
The actress playing Marlene, her name is Merle Dandridge and she also voiced the character Marlene on The Last of Us
That's cool
