I was laughing my ass off at your expressions when the clicker announced itself. Julia: OMFG WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?!?! Trent: I've been waiting for this my whole life!
Trent grinning with glee over whats coming as Julia is silently panic karate choping the air squeaking WHAT THE FUCK when those first chirps started had me in tears 😂
You mention the subtle movements conveying thinking and emotion by Pascal (which he does so well through out the series, especially talking to Tommy in episode 6) but every time I see episode 2, I am impressed by the subtle movements/acting of the head military officer in Indonesia.
There's subtle changes that make it even more devastating for Joel. Both Tess and Sarah injured their ankle while running from infected and were ripped away from him immediately after. And he was forced to just watch it happen because there was absolutely nothing he could do for either of them
i like the fact that there is NO definitive patient zero. Everyone all around the world is getting infected through "flour" fungi. Even the grandmother from the first episode wasn't bitten
"From here on we're silent. Not quiet, silent." That might be my favourite line in the show so far. Pedro's delivery and the tension it setup was so perfect. Also Trent you weren't the only one to say "Joel use a shiv" 😂
Mycology is actually the study of fungi. Also, you shouldn't think of the infected as "zombies". They aren't seeking people as a food source. The infected are hosts AND the food souce for the fungus. They are seeking only to spread the fungus. The "biting" is not their way of eating, it is the means of transmitting the fungus to more hosts.
Re-watched EP 2 because can't get over how visually stunning this episode was. My fave sequence is the first scene in Jakarta, Indonesia. It explains and connected from the first episode during "the TV show scene" when the scientists explained the difference between viruses and fungi, which is an intro from EP 1 and gave us knowledge about it now it explains in EP 2 about cordyceps and how it spreads. That detail and add to the backstories just wow! Also, The Indonesian part was so well acted. The facial expressions of shock, fear, and dumbfoundedness were so good. She was shaking when she found out about 14 people are missing and terrified of what will happen next. It was spine-chilling! Another fave scene is when Joel killed one of the infected, and the fungus/spores started to wrap around the infected's dead body, the detail there is so cool, coz it sent the message to all the others and they came running. I love that aspect so well done! They are doing such a PHENOMENAL job of adding back story, and the changes they're making because they serve to make the story. I love your reactions you're truly enjoying this!
I was so worried going into this show as most video game adaptations have fell extremely flat but I'm so happy to say that so far HBO knocked it outta the park. this show is incredible so far.
I've watched this so many times and just heard the last part of this line from Tess, "I've never asked you for anything ~ not to feel the way I feel..." Wow.
The prologues to the first two episodes are seriously the two best prologues I've ever seen I think. And the reversal of roles a little bit in the indonesian one. Usually it's the military guys who are like "bomb this, kill this, shoot that." But here, the mycologist is the one who says what has to be done, and the military guy is absolutely shook and terrified.
Great reaction. Never played the game and I have to say this show is incredible. That last scene with Tess was awesome it was literally the kiss of death.
That KISS was awesome! Real horror!! It was great for 2 reasons, 1. it showed a little more about the zombies and 2. Most people get blown up to end their lives, but you will NEVER EVER FORGET THAT KISS, 25 years from now and you will remember it! Great job by the director! To leave a lasting impression on you!
There's actually no such thing as "reanimating" in TLoU. The people infected are not dead. They're still alive and the fungus keeps them alive to control them. If they get fatally wounded, the fungus loses the host and the opportunity to spread to more people. In the game you could even hear some runners ask for help. They are basically witnesses to the whole thing without being able to do anything about it because the fungus has control of them.
I love this series so much. They did the clickers so damn f***ing awesome! Disturbing and terrifying af! The cinematography, the score, the atmosphere, the emotions ... just perfect! There are so many shots I would love as a picture at my walls. I need the last scene with Ellie at my wall
I love you guys because you understand everything and just get it. What you were explaining in your breakdown after the recation is exactly what Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann talked about in their podcast. I also agree with the tendrils replacing the spores. It is more personal and violating and intrusive and that makes it a lot creepier and scarier. Also, spores in reality would spread everywhere and everyone would have been infected in a real, live-action based reality. They aren't just going to sit in a localized area, somewhere underground. The spores would spread. It's more accurate to reality and based in real- life science. But, Craig Maizin and Neil Druckmann said that It's still a possibility that the spores may be introduced down the line, in the show, but it would be introduced in a different way, for the series.
Really enjoying your reactions, guys. I’ve never played the game so your insights into games vs television program is very much appreciated. Your Bugs Bunny like knowing asides to the camera that the wife is about jump through the ceiling is very fun to watch, as well. Good stuff all around.
The scientist at the beginning telling the military to bomb the city... this isn't just any city. This is Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia with a population of 10 million+. Can you imagine any nation willingly bombing their own capital city on the word of one scientist? They probably delayed and discussed what to do... then two days and it was already far too late for that solution to work anymore.
Ellie is a kleptomaniac in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if she pocketed the two grenades that fell in front of her feet. In the pilot, there was constant talk about cookies or cake. Sarah, Joel and Tommy never ate any. But the old lady in the wheelchair has eaten and then mutated.
29:05 I think it's more than fear. She felt herself fading away earlier, which is why she wanted to quickly hand Ellie off, and why she snapped at Joel moments ago to let her finish what she wanted to say. She already has the shakes, so the cordyceps have already started walling off her brain from the nervous system, hampering her motor functions. I don't think her lighter is as bad as we all think it is. I think fear and the loss of coordination is going on here. Tess' fear has taken hold of her and her immune system is losing the internal war going on inside of her. It must be taking everything she has left to continue flicking that lighter. Why did the Clicker in the museum cease its pursuit of her and start after Joel and Ellie? Probably for the same reason all the infected in the State House aren't charging after her. She's one of them. The Stalker sensed her and calmly walks towards her. We can see the fear in Tess' face and she's petrified, but I also think she's drawn to it--the cordyceps are in control. The only she's able to do is what she's been trying to do, flick her lighter and start that fire. Tess' death was so much worse in his series, but so much more meaningful. The hivemind aspect of the infected could be knew or just a fleshing out of a story that was loose to begin with. When infected were alerted to your location in the game, others soon followed. This series just explains that they have a mycelial connection, and the way they've shown it is terrifying! I don't know how these episodes continue to get better than the one before, but they do. This is going to be the TV series of the year, and a very hard one to beat at that. Well done. HBO! Well done!
Also the show creators have said in a podcast that the infection has "love", and because she wasn't being violent it wanted to make her "more infected" and it was done through a gentle way which we saw as a kiss.
The clicker scene was very reminiscent of the raptor kitchen scene. I agree . Did I hear one of you say the raptors are cute? Please react to jurassic Park if you haven't seen it yet. They were not cute in the first movie. But just the fact that the clicker scene gave me the same chills as the raptor scene just proves how good it is.
The kiss was gross...but I read something from the writers that was talking about "Why do zombies rip people to shreds? Because they fight back. So what if you weren't fighting back?..."
The kiss was to demonstrate that the mutated fungi's weren't just inherently violent organisms but simply have the goal of spreading themselves everywhere, hence why they didn't violently attack Tess when she didn't resist
I heard they brought back the original voice actors from the game to make all of the clicker sounds. The physical actors were all fans of the game so they had the clicker movement down pat. I never played the game but I'm aware of all the story beats and they did a great job in the museum scene. We're only two episodes in but I'll say this, I wish a few other video game adaptations had followed this formula, enough easter eggs to keep fans of the game happy, and a story that non-fans can enjoy as well.
Hi Trent and Julia I really enjoy bubble your reaction to Episode 2 my favorite part was the clicker scene that was terrifying and awesome and That kiss was disturbing And disgusting. See you both the next episode and Julia I really really love your cosplay pictures on your IG You are so amazing with cosplays !!!💛
You're probably going to miss stereo audio cues or even dialogs if you share one single pair of plugs. Game spoiler for the next episode below: I'm curious how they do the next episode, and a little worried. I believe it is supposedly the Bill & Frank episode, but in the game there's also quite some time spent before that with the bandits and the two getting split, and the iconic moment of Ellie saving Joel with the gun, getting the rifle and then the pistol. Fitting that with the rest of Bill & Frank seems a lot for just an hour long episode.
Ok, first you guys are great. I so enjoy watching your reactions. Now, um, really off topic, but I can't seem to get it off my mind have you watched Red Dwarf?
Those Indonesian actors KILLED that scene. You could just feel the weight, it was amazing. Another great reaction from you both!
Yes. They were amazing. Especially the Mycologist. Really expressed the sheer horror of the situation. Both were just *chiefs kiss* amazing.

Yes I heard the Indonesian actress is very popular, like the US's Meryl Streep.
