I am a stroke survivor affected down right side after experiencing a brain aneurysm 6 yrs ago. I still exercise every day. I have recently had a hi replacement on Left side due to accident. So both legs are weak. In all the time i have had physio I have not heard anything that you have spoken about in your videos, therefore recovery although good is still have that hindering heavy muscles in right thigh and right shoulder. You have explained so much, that i am now working on your methods with great results just in half an hour. Thank you so much. You need to be a world wide physio instructor for physios that think they know everything, but are delaying real progress and results. Thanks you so much. I think i hit all the right buttons. Now going to listen to your other videos and share with other friends that have had strokes to ask them listen to you x :)
I found your channel while researching exercises for stroke patient. In March 2022 my 80 year old dad had a stroke. He received minimal in home physical therapy. Although it helped to get him standing and walking with walker it did nothing to strengthen him. So I took it upon myself. I’ve been doing my best to rehab him but I knew I needed more and end up here. Thank you for what you do. I’ve already learned so much and will be modifying what we’ve been doing thus far. I’m more hopeful now than ever.
Hi Dr. Tara, first of all, I want to give you a big thank for making this video on my request and that too within a very short period of time. Next, I want to congratulate you for the amazing job you’ve been doing by giving your valuable time, efforts, knowledge & experience so as to bring as much information as possible to the hopeless and helpless people out there with the end goal of making them independent with the best possible ways as much as you can do. This video was very productive and informative. I will definitely follow your exercises tips. Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
Injections in my shoulder helped me so much. But, I understood that was an alleviation to pain and movement but NOT a cure. So, while/when the pain was alleviated, I used that to address therapy and movement to address the problem. As they say, knowledge is power and I’ve used everything I’ve learned to keep moving. I am currently paying it forward with my brother who just woke up after 6 months in Covid coma. I recently discovered your channel and between what learned in my own PT and what you are sharing, I’m working on getting my brother home with the “move, move, move” mindset. My days are Mon and Fri and anything you can provide to enhance what I and PT/RT/OT are doing to help him in meeting his goal of going home are very appreciated. I am determined to make sure he successfully goes home with the tools he learned in PT and knows how to handle a fall or get up, as needed, and to request help. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you so much for sharing your personal story and your brothers story! It sounds like your brother is very loved and supported :) In preparation for discharge, spend as much time as possible visiting him during his therapies (as much as the therapy team will allow). I am always amazed what family members pick up on just by watching therapy sessions. :) Oh, and when you are observing, visualize you are at home with him doing what the therapist is doing. That might help you to ask the right questions while you still have the entire team at your disposal :) I hope that helps!
Hello Dr Tara Tobias This video was amazing, on explaining "hip popping syndrome" I experience this when hanging, (from a pull-up bar) and pulling my knees up. or "dead bug" as you have described. (no pain, only annoying popping, feeling dislocated, over and over ...) I have also experienced exactly what you have described, hip Abductor/Abduction. (Pilates reformer) Still working on load bearing my affected leg, also I have recently added rebounding to my rehab. (Dorsiflexion) All I needed to hear were your magic words, "recovery is possible". Your work is so amazing, thank you.
Dr Tara Tobias my "popping" sensation is in the middle of my back, near my tail bone? (dead bug) Is this something totally different from what you are discussing here?
absolutely!!! This is the problem with the world of orthopaedics. When all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. I am sorry your hip is still not better after THR. There are some great books on EDS that have progress exercise programs. This one has a good exercise progression amzn.to/3wh02tN
I think that's my problem as well. None of my surgeries were without complication. I had a hip fracture and a pin and plate but it's never been right and snaps over the psoas so the ortho tells me. Feels like my hip will pop out.
I had trama to my hip shoulder knee and ankle Thats to an. ambulance driver that did not care how he treated victems . Not in michigan . 10 months I told every one at the skild center I was in . I need Help .and its still like that . Both of them .
Hi Alan! Thanks for watching. Yes, I have had several patients recently who have received cortisone injections. MD never watched the patient walking and/or asked for a more detailed understanding of the "pain". Just went right to the injection.
Can you give us examples of the hip levelling assistive devices. I am from India. I think i have a left snapping hip syndrome which has developed after my cervical surgery nearly 4 years ago. But the snapping started only 2 years back on the left hip.
Good morning Dr. Tara I have over the past couple of years developed the snapping of the hip/IT BAND and I also believe that it’s because of spasticity and muscle shortening. I was in the process of scheduling to have x-rays done of the hip area to make sure nothing else was causing it. Side note I’m able to get to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and it helps with my movements mostly for that day. Thank you for your videos and explanation of my/our conditions…
Hi Darius! Thanks for the question! If you have not had any direct trauma to the wrist (or had a fall where you landed on this side of your body), it is most likely nothing to worry about. I have had several patients who have moderate to severe arm spasticity have a "pop"/"click" when moving the hand up (extending the wrist). There are several things that can cause this and working with a good PT/OT who understands the complexities of stroke/spasticity could be helpful to show you how to move the wrist and minimize this. I hope that helps!
I'm having this issue and in rehab now but it's worse not the popping but when I'm lying on bed and straighten my leg out by force when it comes to the end last inch Or so I get a whole body spasm on effected side like it pinches a nerve and yes it hurts BUT STANDING UP TRYING TO WALK WITH WALKER NONE OF IT HAPPENS MOSTLY BIG STRETCH YAWN IN MORNING KILLS ME IM Taking Tizanidine for spasm just makes me tired but waking up sucks any ideas 🤔 what could be causing this it's what hinders my walking right now
Hi Gerry! Thanks for watching and for commenting. I have made a few videos on this. In the YT search bar type "rehab hq and heavy leg". That should get you to the videos :)
Woke up this morning on the floor, lol! Guess I got too close to the edge. Good part, I was OK. Bad part, couldn't get up and back on my feet again. Have had nose buried in books lately and been woefully neglectful of exercising. I'm too ashamed to say how long it took. Won't make that mistake again. The reason I even mentioned it was to say again that I had been experiencing chronic constipation for a while. Fixed it by sleeping on my left side. Just be aware of how close to the edge you are if you have a tendency to roll over in your sleep. Have not experienced this snapping hip syndrome yet, Tara. Yikes.
What if you had a hip ORiF and it feels like the leaser trochanter is snapping. I keep getting told it could be psoas snapping. It is loud and also feels like it is pinching. The same side foot is spastic foot. Adductor spasticity on that side is crazy
Hi Karin! Thanks for watching! Generally speaking, any unusual sounds and/or sensations after surgery should always be checked by your surgeon. If he gives you the all-clear, I would find a good PT to help identify the cause of what you are describing :)
@@rehabhqofficial We had a lot of snow from the winter and it’s actually just gone now, so I’m hoping to soon I can get out walking again, when it warms up a little

So after my 2nd THR my hip was snapping, still is, not as much. But now they tell me I have EDS, hypermobility. Could snapping be because of EDS?

Mam why my leg is snaping back while I m walking i was stroke for 1 year,
In the early stages, the exercises shown are the law, and later I suggest dancing as a more fun method. Have a nice week.
I promised my wife dancing lessons when I was in the Icu. after my stroke. It's proving difficult to get to that stage I'll make it.
