"Don't make yourself special in a way that hurts you." This short sentence floored me in a way I never would have expected. I'll be thinking about that for days to come. I've enjoyed this 4-part conversation more than anything else I've watched in years - thanks so much to both of you!
I agree, totally. Such good luck to have these amazing people, who have reflected on these matters in a systematic and organised way, share their findings with everybody. Thank you.
Epstein Barr virus. I just found out I have it. I’ve had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for years. Finally have connected the dots. Now what to do about it. From what I’ve found is that EBV brings a lot of other things with it. Lupus, MS, CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia and more. I want to hear facts not just hearsay. Thank you
I enjoy all your podcasts Andrew but Dr. Conti is by far my favorite. His wisdom, humility and guidance is exceptional. Thank you both for all you do. ❤
Paul Conti is just brilliant - like dead on knowledgeable and brilliant, so incredibly insightful, down to earth, helpful. What a wonderful human. Good grief, just mind boggling - what a gift to the world.
I used make many of my decisions based on emotions. And I didn’t understand my emotions. You can imagine what kind of gong show that turned out to be. At a point in my early 40s my occasional coping vices turned into full time problems when life presented me disaster after disaster and before I knew it I’d lost 8 years of my life. Almost lost my life. I had no choice but to figure it out and look at all of the things that were causing this nightmare situation. This included taking responsibility for the my part in this and more importantly to forgive myself and realize that I had factors working against me as well that contributed to the maladaptive behaviours. All I can do now is learn about myself with my eyes wide open. And that requires vulnerability. Which was almost impossible. It’s hard to be vulnerable when you struggle with even feeling safe. Ever. This series is brilliant and it helped me immensely in my journey to healing. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thanks so much for providing such valuable information to those of us that can’t afford therapy! Keep up the good work both of you!
In June I took a road trip to the UP of Michigan. Before I left town I heard Jane Fonda talk about doing a life review in her 60's. I took a blank journal and starting writing what I could recall from the day I was born forward. What Dr. Conti is saying is so true. I had time to focus on my unconscious. Wow what a discovery. He is right how you possibly feel shame at the discovery. Humility yes. Since the discovery I am full of gratitude even though I am making some changes that I would never have considered. A geyser is a great description. I did find a therapist to work with. I am just surprised at how doing the life review has been an awakening. I am grateful.
These four episodes are a real gift! Thank you both so much. I've watched the first 3 more than once, and will watch this one at least a couple of times and I'm sure I'll come back to all of them. I heard an interview with author Neil Theise on his book "Notes On Complexity" which was incredibly thought-provoking, and would like to suggest him as a future guest for your podcast. I am 85 and thrilled to be learning so much every day thanks in great part to you Andrew and the magic of technology. I still work as a psychotherapist in the Bay Area, and will as long as I have my marbles.
Thank you so very much Mr. Huberman and Dr.Conti for graciously sharing this incredible series of podcasts and model for mental health and self care. Understanding the resources within me are essential and I feel very grateful for this knowledge and clarity. Thank you again Andrew and Dr. Conti for stimulating helping me recapture my well-being.🙏❤️🩹🌱
Here are 10 key points from the podcast interview transcript: 1. True self-care involves constructing a life narrative to understand your past, present, and future in order to see what's gone wrong, what's gone right, and the best path forward. Self-awareness is key. 2. The map of mental health involves two pillars - structure of self and function of self. Underneath are 10 "cupboards" to explore through self-inquiry. 3. The unconscious mind is like a biological supercomputer working away inside us. We can access it through reflection, therapy, meditation, etc. 4. Trauma gets buried in the unconscious due to shame/guilt. It's like an abscess that needs to be drained via therapy. 5. Defense mechanisms like avoidance, rationalization, and projection arise from the unconscious. Noticing patterns can reveal unhealthy defense mechanisms to address. 6. The character structure is the "nest" that contains our self-concept riding on top of the unconscious and conscious minds. We must tend this "garden" of self. 7. Empowerment and humility are potential states that lead to the active verbs of agency and gratitude - our ways of healthily engaging with the world. 8. The generative drive involves learning, creating, and being prosocial. Anger impedes it. Manage anger by improving self-care. 9. For self-awareness, explore your life narrative. Ask good questions about yourself. Be curiously self-reflective. 10. Curiosity about oneself and embracing self-inquiry are key to mental health, fulfillment, and getting the most out of life. ------------------ Here are some suggestions for taking action on these key points to improve your life: - Start journaling to explore your life narrative and gain self-awareness. Ask yourself good questions about past events, your current state, future goals. - Look into therapy as a way to "drain the abscess" of any past traumas or unhealthy patterns still affecting you unconsciously. - Notice any unhealthy defense mechanisms you lean on like avoidance, projection, etc. Instead, try healthy ones like sublimation. - Do regular self-reflection to tend to your "garden of self" - are you living aligned with your values? How can you improve? - Foster empowerment and humility in yourself. Don't let ego or insecurity dominate. Strive for agency and gratitude. - When anger arises, focus on understanding where it comes from and expressing it constructively. Don't let it control you. - Find ways to engage your generative drive - take on creative projects, learn new skills, volunteer in your community. - Surround yourself with positive people who enrich your life and support your self-growth. Limit time with toxic people. - Make self-care a priority - exercise, sleep, healthy food, mindfulness. Take care of your whole system. - Keep exploring yourself and asking questions to gain self-knowledge. Apply what you learn to grow. - Be gently curious about yourself, while also accepting yourself as you are. Seek understanding, not perfection. The key is turning insight into action. Start with small steps that feel doable. Develop awareness, then consciously choose to care for and improve yourself.
Thank you very much - important for me to nuance that we don't necessarily need to categorize people as toxic (but rather certain aspects of their behavior) and rather than focusing on limiting time it would be setting & communicating healthy boundaries for these aspects of their behavior. We might go into narcissim & lack compassion otherwise.
Dr. Huberman, your dedicated work improves and potentially saves lives, one podcast at a time. People like you and Dr. Conti are Heroes in my eyes. For both helping people, and going against the grain! I hope you are deeply aware of the magnitude of the impact that you have on your listener ❤ THANK YOU both so much for pioneering a new approach to improving people’s mental health, and for empowering us by providing us practical tools to process traumas that will likely lead to mental illness if unresolved ❤
Professor, your series on mental health has been crucial in my journey, especially following my son's tragic suicide. Every tool and insight you've shared is essential in breaking the silence and fostering understanding. Your work is truly making a difference. Thank you. 🙏
"...leading ourselfes to better places." "Bring good people to your journey ". Love that Dr. Conty is so clear and believing in everybodys capacity to take responsebility.
Thank you to Dr. Huberman and to Dr. Conti. This series has transformed my life for the better. Dr. Conti- your words agency, gratitude, and generative drive are engrained in my soul. Listening to your series reminded me of "The Bhagavad Gita". I'm unsure if that was your intention but I believe you and Andrew beautifully brought the sacred scripture to light.
This series has been one of the most useful lectures I've heard in decades. It makes me want to study with Dr Conti. I work in somatic therapy (ecstatic dance) and this has really enriched my understand of the psyche. It is so true that "it's hard to be a human." We could all use more compassion. Thank you professor Huberman for offering this to the world.
We're all hurting. You don't have to dig very far at all to find something truly tragic in someone's life. And that's precisely why this series with you and Paul is vital.
The amount of patience that Dr. Conti and Dr. Huberman have to explain concepts of agency and gratitude from one episode to another is really impressive lol By the way, thank you so much for this discussion, it helps understand ourselves tremendously
I think it emphasizes how important they believe the information to be, that they don’t mind repeating themselves to ensure people can follow along without having to commit to watching linearly or watching so many hours of content.
This series has left me crying, and exhausted, from the realizations I have experienced while listening. I know that’s a good thing. Thank you so much Dr. Conti, and Dr. Huberman. So much. So very much.
This four part series with Dr. Conti was the best content I have ever listened to. I feel sad that it came to an end and will definitely re-listen again in the future. My heartfelt thanks. ❤
I loved the guest series with Dr. Paul Conti. It is so fascinating and has been so helpful as I work through lots of stuff that I’ve avoided dealing with since my divorce and other issues with myself and other relationships.
Lol ❤ If mental health was a painting or the activity of painting, Dr Conti would be showing us how to paint it. Non-artists, even those with no an interest in learning to paint, might enjoy listening and watching Bob Ross paint.
I so needed this~ I’m almost crying just listening because I need to speak to someone so desperately. I’m making calls now. Thank you Andrew Huberman and Dr. Conti. I’ve been pushing down grief and trying to carry on but I will address it. Love and shalom to you. ❤🔥🕊️🚀💎🌈📣🎯✨🌸
Fav section of the podcast. This man snaps w everything he says and he makes me have hope and changed my perception of drs and therapists. He just gets it
Oh my! I just finished the fourth episode today. I have had a tough year and was recently diagnosed with PTSD and moderate depression. These were so helpful! I stopped listening to music all together last year after a wildfire swept through my property and I lost my beloved dog. I resonated with many of the examples, it felt good to know that others go through the exact same downward steps, and that there are ways out. I am reminding myself of agency and gratitude multiple times a day, it is helping me immensely. Thank you so much Dr Huberman and Dr Conti 🙏🏼🫶
I have a sports medicine clinic and your podcast is the MOST shared link I give and I have learned a wealth of knowledge to share with my patients! Thank you thank you for taking your time and expertise to keep all of us practitioners up to date on research and science!
Good God the profound quotes just keep coming from Dr. Conti! “Don’t make yourself special in ways that hurt you.” I’m decimated by that statement and will have to unpack it for quite sometime.

This series has been so fascinating and helpful. My commitment to self awareness as a practice has been uplifted and enhanced with new understandings and protocols as a result of listening to this podcast series. I've listened to hubermanlab podcast since its inception, and always learned so very much, but this series has given me a depth of understanding into my relationship with myself and others. Thank you so much Dr. Huberman and Dr. Conti. Your impact on our lives is immeasurable ❤️
Kudos to Andrew Huberman for again delivering a thorough series in a sound bite era. Conti’s framework, with its elegant simplicity, deeply honors our complexity. Wow! Profoundly meaningful and appreciated. Thank you so much.
I get so much out of your podcasts. I definitely know your podcast has improved my health and anxiety levels and therefore improved the lives of those around me. You’re changing the world❣️
First of all, thank you to you both., Dr. Huberman and Dr. Conti for this wonderful, heathy community you’re creating. I follow both of your guys’ work, as well as Dr. Attia’s, and others that have been on your podcast. You’ve become my community and support in many ways. Thank you for sharing your stories and knowledge. You’re all improving the lives of your listeners in different aspects of life. I’ve been reading some of the other people’s comments, and I agree with all of them. But mainly, I agree in that this is the most important content you’ve shared so far. This is because it applies to all of us. We all have that in common, we’re human and all have a psych. And yes, we need more of it. A book, more podcasts, or at least another roadmap with more explicit guidance such as what questions do we ask to explore each of the coverts followed by references to reliable resources (books, podcasts, etc.) that can expand more on each domain. I read Dr. Conti’s book “Trauma”, which was very informative, and it lists many of the questions we should be asking. I highly recommend it. However, like this podcast, it left me wanting more. Like other listeners, I’m beginning this process of self-exploration and self-understanding. I’m also working on understanding and processing childhood trauma, so any education or knowledge you can share on these topics is greatly appreciated. Finally Dr. Huberman and Dr. Conti, please keep feeding your generative drive with this type of work because you’re surely improving humanity. Maybe, as Dr. Conti mentions in his book, we should expand this valuable information to younger generations so they can have the tools we all could have benefited from a long time ago. In his own words, “we should be teaching this in schools beginning at the elementary level.” I’m all in for mental health literacy for children and youth ❤ (and for the rest of us of course).
I completed the survey and this series addressed what I requested and so much more. I feel heard. I am left feeling gratefulness and agency-as verbs. Thank you.
I listen to your podcast faithfully but I have to say this four part series with Dr. Conte’ is the best yet in my opinion! Your interviewing skills were on point. I very much appreciated when you shared personal experiences that helped us to better understand the subject matter. All in all this series has helped me immensely and i have shared it with many. 🙏
Love the garden analogy. I find it easy to focus on the negatives, the weeds, but also can focus on the positive, what is blooming beautifully in my garden. Thank you!
There was my life before this 4 part series with Dr. Conti, and now there is my life after this 4 part series with Dr. Conti. Many offerings of gratitude to the Huberman Lab team for brining Dr. Conti on to put together this very important series. May many people benefit from the fruits of these thoughtful and engaging conversations. Keep up the good work!
"Knowledge is Power" exactly this is how Hubernan Lab has helped me overcome 20 years of clinical depression... the depression episode from way back when literally saved my life. I give it a listen anytime I feel myself falling back into depression and I can easily pull myself out. There are no words for the gratitude I have for Andrew and his mission to provide the public with this information.
You provide so much value, Dr. Huberman. I now have so much knowledge about the brain and body that I didn’t have before listening to you. I’m so grateful!
Drs P & A, Thank you both very much. Dr Andrew .. I appreciate your vulnerability… for me, the way and the specific focus of these podcasts land precisely. Thank you for your commitment to link people like me to a conversation like this. 🙏 Dr Paul .. what a beautiful intelligent, deep compassionate soul you are. What you have shared with me through this series is one of the biggest learnings and recreations I have experienced. Humanity has a future with people like you guys leading by example. Thank you both 🙏
Thanks both of you .I really enjoy every moment of this guests series .You bring an enormous amount of pleasure, knowledge to the general public. So the only thing that I can think is peace, delight, contentment, agency, gratitude, humility, and much.
Honestly I am so glad there are people like you that have a drive to enlighten young adults or people at any stage of their lives. I recently have been on a path of a more intensive self growth. I have grown out all my old peers. I am at the solitude stage of life. But it is safe to say these series really helped me think about my path and experiences so thank you I appreciate the work you are doing.
Dr Conti, Dr Huberman - *thank you* for this incredible work you’re putting out into the world. My mom died of suicide 15yrs ago at the age of 60 after a lifetime of struggle, and I know that having free access to the kinds of information and tools you share on this show, and particularly through this 4-part series and other episodes on mental health, would most definitely have helped steer things in a better direction for her. It’s truly wonderful, benevolent work that you’re doing by sharing in this way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 💛🙏
Thanks! Amazing, as always. Dr. Conti, you're amazing and your tools are a treasure. Shared with my wife, a psychotherapist here in Israel. Please keep sharing the wealth!❤
Thank you so very much for this series. For most of my life, I have struggled to BE myself, to BE my own identity in the world. Without a trusted mentor or reliable source of support, I have flipped flopped through life doing the best that I knew how. 'Never feeling truly 100% real and authentic - therapy just felt repetitive, without progress, I hated talking about my baggage over and over - to the point where I started to resent the therapist. Dr Conti - your work has truly given me the hope that I was so desperately seeking for a long. long time. From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU. I finally have a roadmap that resonates with me and thus I feel a growing sense of victory.
This entire series is pure Gold. Essential viewing (all 4) for anyone who wants to really understand one's self, deal with grief, release unhealthy attachments and move forward in life with purpose and meaning. The most important concepts are repeated and reiterated progressively. These guys know how to teach. "Knowledge is power. Knowledge shared is power multiplied." - Robert Boyce. Thank you Dr Conti and Dr Huberman. Truly grateful. 🙏💕⚘
And wisdom is knowledge applied in a practical way. I always think that something like this should be a reply quote from some scientist, or philosopher, but I don’t know of any so I’m just going to cite myself -Dre Jk, that’s a little too pretentious (I am a psychologist, or at least a senior in undergrad that’s also studying neuroscience, but it feels wrong quote myself. Idk, I guess we’re all scientists, just not necessarily good scientists).
I have written pages and pages of notes on this series. I started with no3 and went back to 1, will complete the series in its entirety probably a few times. Absolutely worth every minute!
The best 12 hours of my life watching this series, thank you Dr. Conti for sharing all these tools and insightful details on examining the self. Dr. Huberman we need him back on here again at some point, amazing series!
Dr. Huberman - you’re such a kind and inspiring soul. I feel like my world has become a better place due to the efforts and energy you put out to us in every episode. I’ve just become a member and couldn’t be more grateful for your time and dedication. I wish I had you as a dear friend to curiously debate the world, but I will gladly accept watching and listening with commitment. I hope your days are filled with positive interactions and balance and peace and that you can feel proud and confident knowing how many lives you’re changing with everything you do. I wish we could give back to you some of the goodness we’ve been able to absorb through you - and although this is simply a comment on your RUclips - please know you are a true gem and I can only hope you continue to grow and experience all the wonders of life and happiness possible. You are a man made of gold and we are sincerely lucky you exist. Gracias from a small town in Spain and an emotional outpouring that I couldn’t help myself from writing to such a stellar human.
1:36:38 I love your curiosity, excitement and fascination. Like a little child that discovers a new part of the world every day and is amazed. That’s how life never gets boring.
Thank you so much for this valuable information. "Don't make yourself special in a way that hurts you." This was something that I needed to hear. This series has inspired me to devote more time in my life to learning more about myself.
I watch all of the Huberman lab videos as they come out and This has been by far the most impactful video series for me. It has accelerated my progress in mental health after years of studying psychology and trying to improve, I have seen such huge changes in just one month since starting the first episode with Dr Conti. Finally having a map to explore my internal workings and self after ruminating for so long believing that I was reflecting effectively is life changing. I have shared the series with many of my closest family and friends in hope of inspiring them to explore their internal worlds and find more gratitude and agency. Thank you so much for this series, it changed my life. I look forward to hearing much more from both Huberman and Conti in future. Spread the love ❤️
These episodes has been life changing for me. I had to move across an ocean to build a healthier life after a very traumatic, unhealthy marriage that lasted 20 years. I used a running community to achieve this. Before I joined the running group, my internal dialogue was "too old, too slow, can't really run properly" Luckily, I was able to ignore it and keep showing up every week to run and develop friendships. Since then, my life has improved immensely and the gratitude and contentment is wonderful to experience. But after listening to these episodes, I know I can continue to work on myself and dig deeper into those cupboards I am ignoring. The fear is that I would lose that feeling of gratitude and contentment I have achieved, but I realize now that it will only help improve my life in the long run (no pun intended) - thank you for bringing these conversations to the wider community - may it help improve many lives like mine.
Ah! A modern day Delphi Oracle! For decades I couldn’t make much sense of the ancient “know thyself”. While listening to Paul explain the importance of understanding oneself and how to go about understanding oneself, it finally clicked. AH thank you and all those behind the scenes for bringing this series into existence.
OMG the BEST POD CAST EVER!!!! Thank you for these 4 series with Dr Conti. I have been struggling with my childhood trauma, and trying to figure out why I do what I do? Thank you. I can’t tell you how much this has helped me and I know many others.♥️
I listened the four episodes of this series and I could do it over and over again. Great questions and answer to topics that affect all of us. It is not easy to find a reliable source that talks and explains the structure of self in the way this podcast does. Thank you!
The mention of the garden makes me think about perhaps one of my favorite books: "Candide" by Voltaire. When he says, "We must cultivate our garden", I initially understood it to refer to finding meaningful work and worthwhile relationships. But in this discussion of self-care, I think that phrase has a whole new level of meaning to me now. I now think I'll re-read the book with this insight. Thank you both!
This series might have just opened my eye in ways I thought impossible; if of anything else, the fact that psychological change could be possible and that the way to achieve it is laid down in such a clear and simple way are realizations that shook my old belief that I am set in my ways and that I'll die with them. Thank you will not cut it, but thank you both for this work !
Awesome and important information for every one of us. Thank you Dr. Huberman for creating no-cost education and for having the best, most informed, guests. The earlier in life we learn these techniques, the better. For some of us, meaning myself, we know if we'd only known this a long time ago our lives would have turned out very different.
Thank you very much Andrew Huberman and Paul Conti for this fantastic podcast, or better say all of the 4 podcast that componen this series. I found them so interesting and helpful, with a pratic ways to proceed. Thanks to offer to people this valuable material to investigate in ourselves minds and to give us the opportunity to improve our lives trough this kind of work. Has been really inspired to see you two working together with this common goal! 🙏
I had a very bad day today. Made some mistakes at work, and I have been going through difficulty and challenges recently. I hardly open up to someone. I finally decided to turn to a friend that I trusted most. They couldn’t care less and gave some comments which were not very useful at all and didn’t even ask how I am. That hurt even more. I saw this podcast, and at some points cried watching it. The tear of gratitude and hope. Wondering how it can be such a perfect timing. Now, I have a lot of self-reflections to do. What stucked in my mind the most are from Dr. Conti “if you’re going on a journey, and it is a really important journey, and it is a difficult journey, but it can be awesome, bring good people” and “Be curious”. Cannot articulate how tremendously thankful I am right now to you (Dr. Huberman), your team, and Dr. Conti. THANK YOU!
I have enjoyed all 4 of these podcasts with your guest and what I find so satisfying about them is the positive regard you have for one another and the genuine interest you both show during the discussion. You both immerse yourselves in the present and demonstrate a generosity and respect toward one another. As a mental health practitioner, I will be incorporating what I have learnt from you both and implementing it in the program we provide to our clients. Thankyou 🇦🇺
Thank you Andrew and Paul for bringing this insight to our lives. I found myself constantly pausing the videos, taking some time and really thinking through the notion and what I perhaps was not investigating within myself. Can’t say I have ever done that in a podcast before - far more four of them. Please do have Paul back on soon!
I listened to this one and another one with James Hollis today, and now I can't remember who said this particular thing, but I wrote down the question "What does this action/thought serve in my life?" I just got back from Costco, and as usual, I was tempted to get some ice cream after shopping. I asked myself what that choice was in service to though, and didn't end up buying it. Dammit Huberman! Seriously though, that is a really effective way to give my brain just enough pause to rethink whatever situation I am in. I really appreciate you sharing life tools that are so easy to add into daily life. I look forward to more podcasts!
At the risk of stating the obvious, I believe we are living in an era where most Americans, especially, are being challenged psychologically to a degree humans have never encountered. The distressing results of that overload can be seen everywhere and we desperately need better tools. This video series IMO offered some real, actionable methods to better manage the complex task of remaining mentally healthy and I thank Dr. Paul Conti and Dr. Huberman for their excellent work.
I have just come across your channel and this 4 part series with dr conti is the first thing that I have listened to. It has provided a framework and an awareness that I can use to continue to get better with my mental wellbeing. It has shined light on things that I was not aware of in myself..Things that have led me to into dark places that I am working on growing out of into better places. Thank you for your drive to help others with their health as it has been helpful for me :)
Amazing and priceless information. Thank you both for leading us to be part of a better world, mentally and physically…and learn how to heal ourselves and help others… I have nothing but gratitude… blessings! 🙏🏽
I tried listening to pieces of this entire series with Dr Conti, but couldn’t make it through due to his rambling style. For example, Dr Huberman asked him early in this episode to review the concept behind the cupboards and to define agency, gratitude, and generative drive. Conti then went on and on for what seemed forever, without defining those terms and speaking about them only in analogies and stories. I felt like he as optimizing for how much he could charge me for the session, rather than for educating me on the topics.
Extremely grateful for this series, and especially this 4th episode, which I am finding immensely practical. Pondering, reflecting, and making different choices, relating to the journey and the “9th road” aspect you laid out. Game changing podcast! Thank you both!!
Waking the Tiger. My freeze from profound sexual abuse ended 5 years after I found this title. Now I have a new guide to help me stay present and curious. The body knows the score. Praise and blessings to both men. (And I mean Real Men)! Dr Conti: I would be willing to be interviewed with some specifics of my challenge. I would think that my search is worthy and may help others in some way. I trust you both now. Thank you.
Thank You this Series 1 2 3 4 is the only place I have found a full understanding of what is going on in my Mind Your Warning to stop digging came at the exact right time was I saved by the bell in that round . I will be watching this again . . "Like going 4 rounds with Mike Tyson" heavy stuff but worth it .
Dr Huberman. I just finished the 4 episode special with Dr Conti. I thought it was one of the most relevant self learning experiences of my life! Thank you so much! That said, I do feel there is not enough guidance on how to use the maps and explore the coverts. It would be amazing if you and Dr Conti would right a book do a podcast or a how to video on how to actually use the map, it’s no so evident to me. I would be happy to contribute in any way I can, it’s such an important project for humanity to build a clear map towards mental health and the path towards agency and gratitude. Please please please do it, you guys are really adding towards humanity and this would be such a powerful tool. Happy to contribute any way I can. You guys are awesome, thank you again for such an amazing effort towards improving humanity.
"Don't make yourself special in a way that hurts you." This short sentence floored me in a way I never would have expected. I'll be thinking about that for days to come. I've enjoyed this 4-part conversation more than anything else I've watched in years - thanks so much to both of you!
Please could you elaborate on what exactly this means. Perhaps give a hypothetical example. I would be most grateful
'i am better off alone'
'i dont need to vocalise my trauma'
'i dont need many friends'

I agree, totally. Such good luck to have these amazing people, who have reflected on these matters in a systematic and organised way, share their findings with everybody. Thank you.
Conti gives a couple good examples; “I can have a career, etc., but I’m not”allowed” to have a successful romantic relationship “
I agree! This statement and “altruism is a defense mechanism” surprise, delight, and encourage me!
I wont get tired of saying it: this series is the best content Dr Huberman has given us!
Can you please do an episode about autoimmune diseases and how to heal them?
YES YES YES Please!
Me too.
Great suggestion! 🙋🏻♀️
Yeah , fibromyalgis
Epstein Barr virus. I just found out I have it. I’ve had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for years. Finally have connected the dots. Now what to do about it. From what I’ve found is that EBV brings a lot of other things with it. Lupus, MS, CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia and more. I want to hear facts not just hearsay. Thank you
I literally cried for every episode with Dr. Paul , so so so so powerful , should be mandatory foundation course at all schools
I enjoy all your podcasts Andrew but Dr. Conti is by far my favorite. His wisdom, humility and guidance is exceptional. Thank you both for all you do. ❤
Agreed 👏
This series is shaping, supporting and contributing to my life and well-being. So much gratitude. Thank you both, your team and all your guests. 💚🙏
Hello! I've crafted self-help therapy tips from trusted sources (link in my bio). Your feedback means a lot! 😊
Amen❤
“We can’t help ourselves if we don’t honor truth” - Dr. Paul Conti. So simple and so profound.

That’s amazing! You are an inspiration!
Thank you for sharing this kind soul, i wish you all the best on your journey of life😊❤️🙏
Thank you so very much Mr. Huberman and Dr.Conti for graciously sharing this incredible series of podcasts and model for mental health and self care. Understanding the resources within me are essential and I feel very grateful for this knowledge and clarity. Thank you again Andrew and Dr. Conti for stimulating helping me recapture my well-being.🙏❤️🩹🌱
Here are 10 key points from the podcast interview transcript:
------------------
Here are some suggestions for taking action on these key points to improve your life:
- Start journaling to explore your life narrative and gain self-awareness.
Thank you for sharing! Great summary!
Agreed. Thanks for taking the time to post that. There's a lot going on in these interviews and it's hard to track it all.
That is super helpful 👍
🎉
I didn’t want this series to end, I truly enjoyed every minute of it. Such good education and content. Thank you!
Professor, your series on mental health has been crucial in my journey, especially following my son's tragic suicide. Every tool and insight you've shared is essential in breaking the silence and fostering understanding. Your work is truly making a difference. Thank you. 🙏
My sincere condolences to you.
Sending you love light condolences and healing hugs.
I am so so sorry for your deep loss! 💔
"...leading ourselfes to better places."
"Bring good people to your journey ". Love that Dr. Conty is so clear and believing in everybodys capacity to take responsebility.
Dr Conti is a shepherd of the minds of people.
And that's precisely why this series with you and Paul is vital.
this is right, this is the core of overthinking, it's like digging a hole until it's deep you just realize it's hard for you to out anymore...
The amount of patience that Dr. Conti and Dr. Huberman have to explain concepts of agency and gratitude from one episode to another is really impressive lol
By the way, thank you so much for this discussion, it helps understand ourselves tremendously
I think it emphasizes how important they believe the information to be, that they don’t mind repeating themselves to ensure people can follow along without having to commit to watching linearly or watching so many hours of content.
Thank you Andrew for asking the questions that we would ask, and Paul for the answers. Much appreciated.
The world needs this. More than ever. Thank you both for being trailblazers in your field. What a community you have here. Grateful 🙏

Dr. Conti is the Bob Ross of mental health.
@@medicorene what's that even mean?

Hi! I've compiled self-help therapy advice from experts (link in my bio). Your insights are valuable! 😊
Yes, thank you Paul Conti for all of these sessions! And Mr Andy for the idea of doing these..... Y'allz kids rock!!!
Listened to these episodes with Dr Conti twice and still havent absorbed all the invaluable gems of wisdom shared here. Thank you!
Ready for Episodes 5, 6, & 7 Mr Huberman & Conti
You provide so much value, Dr. Huberman. I now have so much knowledge about the brain and body that I didn’t have before listening to you. I’m so grateful!
Greetings! I've gathered self-help therapy tips backed by professionals (link in my bio). Your opinions are welcome! 😊
Favorite guest on the Huberman Lab so far! This was of immense support to me!
Drs P & A,
Thank you both very much.
Loved listening to the first 3 episodes. Just starting the 4th....I am thoroughly enjoying them. Thank you both so much for this gift
Masterpiece. This series has to be the best content ever put on RUclips. Thanks for this to both!!
Thank you both. What a gift of wisdom that you have shared. Thank you once again for your generosity.
I always think that something like this should be a reply quote from some scientist, or philosopher, but I don’t know of any so I’m just going to cite myself
-Dre
Jk, that’s a little too pretentious (I am a psychologist, or at least a senior in undergrad that’s also studying neuroscience, but it feels wrong quote myself. Idk, I guess we’re all scientists, just not necessarily good scientists).
I have written pages and pages of notes on this series. I started with no3 and went back to 1, will complete the series in its entirety probably a few times. Absolutely worth every minute!
Heck yeah!
Thank you for writing this, totally agree and I'm sure many subscribers and fans do too !
1:36:38 I love your curiosity, excitement and fascination. Like a little child that discovers a new part of the world every day and is amazed. That’s how life never gets boring.
Two beautiful voices, two beautiful men. You are a gift to so many people and for sure to me. Thank you.
The kindness here is so inspiring. Blessings to everyone!
Dear Dr. Andrew Huberman and Dr. Paul Conti, thank you a million for such valuable information you share with us!
Hi! I've compiled self-help therapy advice from experts (link in my bio). Your insights are valuable! 😊
Thank you for this series! You're a gift to this world.
excellent 4-part zero-cost series. total runtime around 12 hours and 40 minutes!
Listened to the episodes on spotify but I had to come here to congratulate Dr. HUBERMAN. This series is gold.
Conti. THANK YOU!
What a beautiful and lovely soul is Dr. Conti.
Dr A Hubermann this interview series w P Conti was spectacular you were really on your game for these interviews!!
It is explained very clearly in part 1. Also please read the documents iceberg model and Pillars of mental health in the decription
I love Paul’s voice, it makes me feel so comfortable
Extremely grateful for this series, and especially this 4th episode, which I am finding immensely practical. Pondering, reflecting, and making different choices, relating to the journey and the “9th road” aspect you laid out. Game changing podcast! Thank you both!!
Thanks!
Thanks for the awesome podcasts. Listen everyday while delivering mail and have learned an enormous amount from you and your guests. Great stuff
Thank you.
Listening to these series for a third time! Thank you!
This is the best information that I have taken in, with regards to self awareness. Unbelievable!!
Wow Wow Wow!!!
Best of best!
This set of 4 will be on loop for a long time! ❤
This series should absolutely go down as both your all’s life’s work. Thank you both for taking time to gift this to the world.
This series is extremely valuable. Thank you both!
