    healer difficulty is 100% dependent on how good the other players are. it can be the hardest or the easiest depending on the group. Is your group stopping casts? Is your group using defensives?

    One thing about healer is that you don't really get to choose when you greed casts. Sometimes you're just in a situation where if you don't someone's gonna die. A DPS can usually opt-out of some uptime just to make sure they don't die or hold a CD for an easier part of the fight with minimal losses but healers often don't get that luxury, the content decides for them when they need to do their output.

  • @LoganH0076
    @LoganH0076 Год назад +48

    One thing to consider too is that healers have to make a lot of split second decisions. Like “oh the group just all got hit for 80% of their health, I need to move right now to avoid dying, and this dps has a debuff on them that is about to finish them off if they don’t get healed immediately.” So you have to be aware of things like that that are happening even to other people pretty regularly while still dealing with the same mechanics as everyone else

    I've done a pretty healthy mix of tanking, melee DPS, and healing in m+ since it was added to the game (with a bit of ranged DPS but much less than the other three), and am currently maining healing. I think the problem with these discussions is that players tend to conflate the stress of playing certain roles with the difficulty. DPSing on my rogue while dodging 500 swirly mechanics and trying to maximize my DPS as much as possible while also hitting every priority interrupt and stun is more difficult on most runs in terms of execution, but I generally end every key as my Preservation Evoker significantly more stressed. The higher the keys we're pushing, every affix combo in Dragonflight just feels bad on a healer right now (to me) and that sense of constant stress makes healer feel much harder to play, even if it is technically not.

Idk WHY you want to tell yourself melee dps is more difficult than healing, but it's not. The stress levels reflect that. Easier tasks don't stress you out more. "I don't stress nearly as much but it's so much more difficult" LMFAO.

    • @jsteimel
      @jsteimel Год назад

      @@wolverinesfan9021 No one said it's not difficult, but there are scales of difficulty. On both characters I have to dodge the endless army of swirlies, keep an eye open for priority interrupts, think about positioning etc. However, on my healer (Evoker), the decision of which key to press is a bit simpler.
      Similar to a point made in the video, the decisions on what to hit next on DPS -- if you're pushing to maximize DPS as much as possible -- has a lot more variables. I need to be thinking about how many mobs are still up, how long I think the pack will still be alive (to depend on if certain CDs are worth using or if there's value in refreshing a debuff), tracking procs, making sure certain buffs / debuffs have enough time remaining before I use certain CDs, etc.
      Easier tasks can absolutely stress you out more. Knowing which ability I need to hit next is easier on my Evoker -- but it's also more stressful because a mistake is more likely to lead to a death or a wipe, where a single wrong button press on DPS just means the pack lives 1-2 seconds longer.

    • @wolverinesfan9021
      @wolverinesfan9021 Год назад

      @JStymie It is not simpler to decide which button to press on the Evoker lol. You are responsible for the whole party and the evoker tool kit allows for you to get pretty creative with combos and which cd's to utilize and when. Whereas on a melee dps in that situation you aren't concerned about or responsible for the whole party + yourself- It is inherently easier and it's not even a discussion. Don't stand in shit, whack mob. Omg how difficult.

    As someone who has only played dps classes; I feel like dps are at the bottom of the hierarchy, there is a lot of them out there and it's pretty easy to find one. Sure it sucks when you have an awful dps that never kicks or uses utility and still does like 20k dps overall, but there's still the potential for your group to carry them through a boss encounter/time a mythic+. If your tank/healer is awful its almost impossible to succeed.

      I got your point, but the thing is: DPS shouldnt be carried, they carry the group to time it. the DPS sky is the limit take is flawed. Yes you can always push out more damage as a dps, but that very same statement holds true for healers and tanks in raids, but especially in m+ where every smidgen of damage matters in high keys
    a healer who does not know the encounters well will not be able to use their gcds on damage optimally because they are constantly scrambling to heal. The same thing goes for a tank who does not use their defensives and mitigation optimally, they will be scrambling and unable to use their gcds properly for damage. SO, you have the same goal as the dps along with your other abilities.
    As someone who plays all 3, dps is by far the easiest and people who say figuring out a rotation and squeezing every bit out is so difficult o_O wtf are you on about? all you have to do is open MDT once or twice, figure out which packs you are gonna need to spend your damage cds on, and then do that. If you have issues with your rotation, you may just be a lost cause. All your perceived difficulties are the same difficulties the tank and healer face on top of their other responsibilities.
    People who say they have to dodge swirlies, push their buttons at the right time and interrupt mobs. Guess what, tank does all of those too, healers generally do too!
    The only dps that require any kind of planning and real knowledge of the encounters are hard casters, because you need to know when you're gonna have to move and thus won't be able to plant and cast. melee dps circle the mob while doing damage the whole time. Hunters are basically ranged melee as they can just run and pewpew from a mile away (it's not a coincidence this class is a magnet for the worst players on the planet, it is the least punishing)
    For what is the actual most difficult role to play (in m+ at least) I think it's a toss up between tank and healer for different reasons. If the group is really uncoordinated and literally taking a ton of avoidable damage to the face you're gonna struggle bus as a healer (especially pro active healer specs) and you'll add no damage as you constantly top players. If you're a tank in a really uncoordinated group you're gonna have to constantly keep your head on a swivel ready to pickup whatever is being butt pulled, and on the prep side of things you're gonna have to know the mob counts well if you know people are gonna butt pull so you can drop and add to the route as is required to not go over or under massively.
    The sheer representation of dps illustrates this point most adequately. Lowest responsibility role. If your dps is crap and you keep dying, you'll deplete the key but still complete it. If your healer or tank is crap you're never even making it to the end of the dungeon.

    The thing is: everything a dd does is also expected from tanks and healers albeit to a lesser degree when it comes to dps. Tanks and healers have additional tasks in a dungeon and they do not share those among two other group members like dds do. Or to put it into an example: I have timed keys that had one dd do tank damage throughout the dungeon but I have never timed one where tank or healer did f up at every pull.
    M+ on high keys is meant to be difficult, so everyone struggles and in the end the group needs to work as a team because if you don't play according to what your group members do, no one wins.

    Very good assessment of each role and I agree. I have told people for years part of the reason I love playing a healer main is that I'm either sipping my coffee and relaxing through the content so to speak because it's going so well OR I'm smashing my hotkeys and sweating bullets because it's pure chaos and random events every moment where the group lives or dies by my decision on what spell/ability to use my next global on. Sometimes it's hard because the DPS aren't performing as well other times it's hard because of the nature of the encounter or the affixes or dungeon, etc. But the bottom line through all of this content whether M+ or raid is that my job gets easier the better the DPS are doing their job.

  • @bted
    @bted Год назад +16

    I've done tanking and dps. Healing stresses me out too much. Even when dps is dumb and dies or the tank is not good, I feel responsible. As a tank in m+ it's also stressful but if you're prepared and you know mechanics, it helps a lot because you're leading the way and more in control. Raid tanking seemed very easy - for most bosses it's a swap and one or two other mechanics. All the tougher mechanics are for dps and healers. DPS can be stressful too. There are moments you have to decide between riskier and safer play, when to use a global for a kick, when to pop a defensive, off-heal or decurse etc. Ideally, you can do all the above, and maybe it's my skill level but I find myself having to make little decisions like that constantly. It's embarrassing to die but we all want to top meters.

    If a tank misses a defensive, they could just die. If a healer messes up someone else could just die. I'd say that's far more difficult to deal with than just doing less damage. I don't really agree with the sentiment that DPS have some infinite ceiling they can climb that Tanks and Healers don't also face.
    Tanks/healers just also have to do all the other things they're responsible for that DPS don't have to deal with.
    I say this as a Feral Druid. I have a ton of extra utility that I love being able to help with, and I'm melee. I've done quite a lot of tanking in previous expansions, and dabbled in DF. It is what it is. I'm way more relaxed just DPSing than I ever have been tanking. There is far more pressure to be perfect when you're the tank than there is when you're in any other role. Everything pretty much hinges on you making wise decisions when you're the tank. Tanks are basically the foundation of the group.
    I think healing is on average a bit less stressful than tanking because you're not in the spotlight directly. You're kinda in the back undoing everyone elses mistakes... but it has the potential to be the most stressful when everything is going terribly and everyone is relying on you to save them.. and then you have to start making split second decisions that could easily result in everyone dying.
    DPS is just DPS. You show up and steal all the glory by doing big numbers. Lmao. If your DPS sucks, you just go do some sims, beat on some target dummies and figure out what you're doing wrong. You get in some practice so you're used to the mechanics and then you're good to go. It's easy by comparison imo

DPS have to learn their rotation to maximize damage while also learning where are the bad places to stand. Tanks, especially now, are just meat walls that hold aggro and are expected to know routes for m+. Healers have to learn how to heal every kind of tank, know every damage spike and dispell to both the tank and the rest of the party, and their job is the only one that gets harder when other people dont know what to do.

    I main DPS but i have and can tank "high" keys (20+) in M+ and my opinion is that Healer is either the easiest role, or the hardest it all depends on the group and the situation.
    The same can be said and argued for Tank.
    Without question DPS is the easiest role for M+.
    I do not raid but the hardest role in Raid is the Raid Leader...
    Why? Because you need to deal with brainiac players that can't deal with mechanics no matter how many tries they have without loosing your sanity and keeping your cool, even on mythic raiding level.
    TLDR Tank and Healer need to do what DPS do + their own responsibilities.
    DPS is ZUGZUG turn off brain mode.. yes even on high keys tbh, as long as u have your class on muscle memory.

  • @Newbie4Hire
    @Newbie4Hire Год назад +1

    Played at their maximum the most difficult role in high end Mythic+ is Healer. In high level M+ the healer is basically a dps who has the additional responsibility of healing the group. the Healer has to do their DPS rotation correctly to maximize their dps, as well as monitor healing needs, and know all mechanics of the dungeon. This video is incorrect about the healers job in high level M+, if the healer is not pumping on the dps meters, the group cannot compete in high level M+. Next is the DPS, they have to be able to execute their dps rotation while doing mechanics to do competitive dps, in high level keys the dps also needs to know the dungeon inside and out. Last is the tank, the tank needs to know a little more about the dungeon than the rest of the group, but their rotations are simple and mechanics are more forgiving.

But that cutting edge playerbase your talking about is 3-5%. So even if those specific guys you would say the dps is harder....Well...there are 80% that trump. So because of this breakdown, considering that weight..Your initial Healer/Tank/DPS is the most accurate and fair statement.
    In any sample you usually removed that high and low extremes to minimize variance..In this case the RWF raiders would not even be caputred. They are literally a different type of player.

As a tank i feel like my classes job isnt that hard but my personal job is. Plenty of research is needed, pathing has to be nearly perfect and you have to be a legitimately good leader for those following you. Healer is hectic because is split decisions and keeping count or at least trying to keep count of teams defensives and sometimes it really feels like it comes down to making a decision where someone cant win

    One thing to note is that at high levels most raid teams want to decrease the number of healers to increase overall raid DPS thereby increasing difficulty for the remaining healers. Of course no one cares but there will always be the "can you one or two heal this?" at some point. Good healers want to maximize thier performance as well and push effciencies / challanges.
    As someone who does healing and DPS I still say healing is more difficult. Especially at the high end as stated and at the low end where there is a lot of stupid. As we always say "you can't heal stupid" 🤣🤣🤣

    It varies significantly by DPS class too. An affliction warlock managing to keep DOTS up on all of the targets while doing mechanics is a good deal more challenging than, say, a hunter doing their rotation. I've raided as a healer, tank and DPS, and squeezing out the max dps I can on my Aff lock is the hardest of them.
    The healer *feels* harder at times when you're wiping because you feel like you're failing to keep people alive when the reality is that until people are doing mechanics correctly, there's only so much the healers can do to mitigate that failure.

    Healing may not be consistently the hardest role throughout the course of the dungeon, but they do have frequent moments where a party wipes or doesn't wipe within a handful of globals. Especially on healers where preparation is key to throughput, if they don't execute a handful of maybe 5-6 globals perfectly it's a bricked key. This usually happens on the order of 5-10 times per key, making it extremely swingy in terms of stress and intensity.

    Tank is not very straight forward. On top of knowing the route, the pulls, and the mechanics, tanks need to react and predict every possible outcome with their cds. For example as DK sometimes I hold with my snappy hands because I know next pull there are couple of hunter mobs very hard to pack with the group so I use it there to stack them together, or hold a major defensive because I see a patrol coming which may or may not get pulled by someone, being always aware of the surroundings, the damage of the mobs, knowing what to pull and when to pull, despite DPS urging you to pull more when you know those 2 mobs hit like a truck, etc.. etc.. etc…
    So yeah tank role it’s not just taking damage but forecast the entire dungeon.

    "as a dps there is always room to do more dps" what bs, there is not always room. Ppl at the highest level perform their rotations perfectly or near perfectly. These rotations can be harder or easyer depending on class.

  • @glitchboard9452
    @glitchboard9452 Год назад +1

    As a healer, I do think that that upper limit on heals does still fall in a similar category to the upper limit of dps, but in a much lower pressure way. You have to be doing some real nonsense one way or the other in order to get anybody to comment on it, but healer dps is a significant metric to pay attention to. Especially in M+, my philosophy is "what is my max dps I can have while keeping everyone above 1 hp?" And any drop in hps doesn't really matter as long as nobody died. In that way, it frames things in a question of what can I do to keep my team up in the fewest globals possible. On rDruid, how can I make sure that my dots never drop. In disc priest, how can I plan for damage so I can just pure DPS when the damage comes in. In evoker, what are the fewest essences I can use so they all get to go to disintigrates (and I never sit at cap).
    So while I do agree that from the perspective of the other players, the skill cap and accolades you get in DPS has an unquestionably higher cap, and they do have plenty of non-DPS related jobs to do as well. But healers do have a similar infinite ceiling to min-maxxing their globals, just don't expect anybody to notice lol. When was the last time you heard someone say "This pog healer is cranking 20k dps. What a pumper!" But you would notice a difference if you had a healer that kept everyone alive and did 8k.

    all roles are the same difficulty
    everyone needs to know trash and boss mechanics, how to deal with affixes, how to use supporting abilities to enahnce the group and how to use personal cooldowns of all kinds to clear in timely manner
    - dps difficulty comes from fast paced rotations and executing said rotations with mechanics in mind
    - tank difficulty comes from knowing layout of the dungeon to lead the pulls as efficiently as possible
    - healer difficulty comes from making up for mistakes the other two roles might have done, if its possible
    if you find healing a hard and stressful that just means your party is flat out bad, many healers who get to 20+ keys realise how easy role becomes as mistakes that were expected to be healed through previously now simply just one shots dps leaving only themselves to blame
    while it might be unpopular opinion i think hardest role in m+ is dps role, they are the ones that dictate how fast dungeon will be completed, the faster you kill stuff the less dangerous it is

    I play main DPS in the current expansion and I shelved my tank/healer druid, because of how easy it is to play my BM hunter versus my bear in the current expansion and I despise how healers were changed since WotLK. That is saying, how stressful it is to heal, not how "hard" it is.
    This is really hard to answer for pugs as everything can change depending on your group setup. If your group sucks, you will have absolutely the worst time as a healer. But considering a moderately competent group, that knows what it is doing, you can look at it this way:
    Everyone has to know their class. Period. This is dependent more on the spec you are playing, than if you are a tank, healer or dps. There classes, that are easy and there are ones that are very hard to play well. On top of that, everyone has to know the boss mechanics and needed movement.
    As a dps, you are one of three so even if you don't play 100%, you have two other guys that have the same role. Your added responsibility is interrupts, especially as melee. You do not have to adapt much to specific situations. As a healer, you shoulnd't be bothered with interrupting, but you have to watch out for dispellable debuffs. You also have to adapt to a specific encounter a bit more than dps, because the knowledge of damage spikes can help you heal proactively instead of reactively.
    And this is wehre we come to tanks. They not only have to know their class and especially its mitigation cooldowns, they also need to know, which mobs do physical or magic damage, they have to know the optimal routs to take, they have to pull exactly the right amount of mobs to neither slow down too much and not to overpull, they have to know every encounter basically, or the whole instance is going to be a pain for everyone and someone ends up rage-leaving. On top on all of that, once they learned this, changes in affixes will change all of that from week to week. There is no other role, where the difference between an below average and a good player will have a bigger impact.
    Also consider the fackt, that even when all dps die, you can most of the time finish an encounter without an enrage mechanic. When the healer dies, the tank can often survive a part of the encounter by popping more mitigation skills and self-healing (looking at you especially DKs) ... with a dead tank on a 40% boss and no BR, you can just lie down and reset the encounter.
    And saying "dps is hardest because you always have room for improvement" is just silly. This goes double for healers and tanks. And an additional 5-10% dps in the damage meters is not what makes or breaks a key. If you think it is, you are deluding yourself.

Of course each role has its perks. Ie. Ya k can get coughs by something as it won’t kill him. Healers can get away with not doing as much dps in some keys. And dos can get away with doing less dps when having a bad run. I have played tanks dps and healers and found healing the best imo. Suits my okay style. And in s3 I did some 22/23 on all paladin tank resto sham and a surv hunter. I think overall all roles are as hard as you make it. There’s always room for improvement and it depends on how ones play style is like. In anything less then a 22 I personally don’t care about dps. Some times I finish at 10k some times at 4K but my healing is showing more hps. If I had to pick one I would say healer would be harder. Reasons are
    1- affix’s effect is more. Purging soothing dispelling.
    2-some times you have 0 control over your cd’s. If some one gets hit for like 90% of their hp you have no but to use a cd.
    3- yes you just follow the group healing but the expectation to do 20+ dos while healing while cc’ing while sootheing purging. And again I do main healers so of-course I would like to think my roles is harder 😂

    Healers also have to focus on squeezing out dps. A Healer adding 15k dps to the pool might be more crucial than a dps pulling an additional 5k. At the maximum level, keeping everyone alive is NOT ENOUGH as a healer and people will care. This is all while maintaining mana during an entire dungeon. Tanks also, they can survive, and know the route, but they can also do damage, and knowing how to and when to makes or breaks higher level runs. Everyone has a mountain to climb at being the best and it is ALWAYS the same mountain, doing DPS efficiently.

    if you just look at the affixes in m+. ranged dps have just do deal with "annoying things". and not deadly stuff.
    i would say heal is easier if the group is good and takes a minimum of avoidable dmg.

Healers are weaving in a dps rotation, getting interrupts and stuns just like the dps are, all well healing the party and acting preemptively to incoming damage. As others have stated healers don't have the luxury of taking a dps timeout when things get frantic if they don't get their heals out it's a wipe.

    You could have a bad healer and be ok. You could have a dps or two falling behind and be ok. But, if the tank is clueless the key is bricked. Tank is the most critical but everyone is important haha

    I agree with almost everything, except the fact that DPS can be harder in some cases. In Raid i agree it can be more challenging than tank, but in Dungeons DPS can't even talk about difficulty. First because the mechanics they have to do/avoid to maximize dps are almost the same a healer needs to do and in some cases tanks. Second, if your tank sucks, u won't be able to pass the first pull without someone quitting. Third, if your healer sucks, even if u play very well, in some cases you will NEED heals or you will die.
    Ranged DPS is brain dead, meele DPS suffers a bit more cause needs to be aware of certain things (frontals or moving far for a while cause something is happening) and i would say tank and heals are close in terms of difficulty.

    As someone who played dps before and now healer since uldir (around world rank 100/150 bracket), i think that healers skill ceiling can be pushed forward if you get one more dps in the composition instead of a healer (like 3 or 4 healers instead of 4 or 5). If you have the shoulders to do so, it is a great benefits for your guild.

    Overall I think Healer is the hardest, then tank and dps being the easiest or at least most chill.
    But, when you are playing tank or dps you can make the healer's life way easier when you play well.
    You can interupt casts, dispell stuff, not stand in void zones and use your defensives.
    As a heal in DF I made the experience that it makes and immense difference.
    I heal the same keys with different groups and in one they were all getting super low or sometimes die in 2 secs.
    And with another group people where super easy to heal and we just went through the dungeons in no time.
    I always watch out for the use of interupts and depending on the key level sometimes no one is using interupts (NO ONE!).
    So dont blame the heal for not healing through a stacking aoe debuff.
    And since I record my runs I also see often times people just standing in an aoe effect... and not by accident because they do it over and over no matter how much damage they take...

    "No need to follow a specific rotation for healing" Wild Growth will NOT heal the party with 1 button.

    I normally respect your opinion on stuff but with this im going to disagree. I have 3 dps one on 1900 rating, 2500 and 2700. Up till now its really not been that hard.
    Yes its not 3k rating but honestly I have done 20s now and they arent even close to the difficulty of my Disc priest. I think maybe you're talking because you're playing an evoker. Which is mechanically so much easier then some other healers (Maybe not resto druid but the rest I'd say). My resto druid sits on 2.7 rating where as I am struggling hard to get to 1.9k on my disc priest so I dont think this is a fair breakdown because some healers and indeed some tanks are so much harder then other ones. There is definitely a huge difficulty curve between the bottom Disc Priest and the bottom Evoker for example. Disc priest is enough to fry your brain while doing all the same tactics as a dps and having to make as much dps as you can because that also is your hps.

    Playing a poorly designed class is hard. You keep track of every skill usage to optimize play while being aware of the mech, only found out yourself at the bottom of the dps meter regardless

    Healer is the hardest. When tanks do unnecessary pulls and dps don't use defense and taking unnecessary damage. It makes us healers lives hard as hell.

    Dps is the hardest, because most people fail at it and do mediocre. If you have good ++ DPS, your healer and tank won’t need to do much.
