If you're out of line of sight, I can't heal you. If you're out of range, I can't heal you. If I have no mana, I can't heal you. Adam has a point tough with "try not to get hit so much" - when you're with a tank who goes in all Leeroy Jenkins, parks in a poison aura, catches fireballs with his head and finally blames the healer for letting him die.

    • @faellyss
      @faellyss 2 года назад +96

      Yes, the role of the tank isn't to get hit, but prevent other to be hit.
      In some game at very hight and competitive level the healer and the tank must do damage too so they both need to optimise their gameplay to reduce the time they spend on casting heal, protection, taunt etc

    • @t3hsilarn
      @t3hsilarn 2 года назад +47

      Not really that ridiculous. Ive met quite a few players like that, even on fairly endgame content of MMO´s. You play long enough you´ll meet all kinds of crazies. Tanks who either think they can pull entire dungeon including all bosses and still be perfectly healed, or dont want to get hit, so they pop up aggro reducing abilities or start yelling at healers for heals everytime their health drops to 99%. DPS who either start damaging the boss before tank builds aggro, or stand in AoE effects then start bitching when healer doesnt have enough mana to heal/res them. Heals who think they are DPS or even tanks. Human factor in games is never ending source of amusement and inspiration for videos like these.

With my two healing spells I kept the group alive and was doing so much damage that the tank couldn't keep agro as he also sucked. That was the worse experience of my mmo life. As the designated healer 90% of the time, I have to somewhat side with Adam on the point of Rowan taking less damage. One day I got fed up with our tank saying they couldn't take less damage so I hopped on my tank (same class) and told them to heal, on any class they liked. We then ran the scenario again and I was the only one who the new healer didn't have to heal, cause I new what damage mitigation the class had and how the fights went. Ya...I never ran with them again as they were just pissed at me after...for not wanting to tank for them.

    • @Ezullof
      @Ezullof 2 года назад +13

      I mean, some tanks have better damage mitigation than others depending on the game. Some tanks are literally mostly lifepoints tanks that do some DPS, others focus on absorbing damage and even healing themselves a bit, and even others focus on debuffs and interruptions...

    • @hellborne7995
      @hellborne7995 2 года назад +7

      It depends on the game too. When I played ff14, no matter how far away you ran, any damage targeted at you would hit you, as long as you were close enough for the enemy to start the attack. Some games make it literally impossible to evade damage. But mostly, I agree with you. Part of the reason I never play healer. It's a stressful job, but mostly I suck at timing anything.. especially heals.

    • @Sabarok
      @Sabarok 2 года назад +6

      @@hellborne7995 That is true, you can't get rid of all damage, but a tank that knows the fight really well and what their class options are can do a lot to reduce the damage they take. For example, in Haukke Manor, the final boss has some frontal aoes that aren't telegraphed, so it's possible to stand behind the boss to avoid the hit. There are also many bosses with "tank killer" attacks that do massive damage, so a tank that knows what to look for will time their mitigation for that, or have interrupts ready for specific attacks. Some telegraphs that do so little damage that a tank might stay in it in order to not move the boss. On the other hand, FFXIV is designed to be so easy that tanks that don't do any of that will be fine, and healers can easily keep up with it.

    • @Feorblack
      @Feorblack 2 года назад +6

      On some games, a good tank can solo easy, it could take forever to kill the mob, but the survivality can make you stay in the area almost forever. On the old times of Ragnarok Online I could solo some MVP's wiith a Lord Knight with the right strategy.
      Tanking is not only become in front of enemy taking every single hit. You need to know the right time to move, arrond, retract and even the time to flee way. A good tank with a good healer almost become an imortal being, a bad tank with a good healer is just a shield that eventualy will broke.

I originally thought that you would go for something like that - with the healer standing in the back, doing spells and telekinesis to damage the boss, while the tank is sweating blood and water to survive, only to barely survive the boss fight - and the healer says "Well, that wasn't too hard." in the end.

The healer's job isn't to make you win the fight as healthy as possible, the healer's job is to make you win the fight. Every healer starts out _more_ than happy to heal the party, full time. This problem always develops the first time a semi-experienced healer gets stuck with SUCH shitty, go-nowhere DPS, that they either feel obligated to help, (life's too short) or feel frustrated/challenged enough that they believe they could do comparable damage in the wrong spec.

      I was in an instance run few weeks ago in FF14 where both our dps were SO WEAK! Trash pulls were taking like literally 2-3 times as long to complete, it was bad. Bosses were repeating phases I didn't even know could repeat. I was the tank though not healer, but I saw how hard our poor healer was working to keep me up after I blew through all my CDs and every mob still had like 40% hp left. It was terrible. I had to eventually slow down the pulls to single pulls in order to lighten the load on the poor healer. I've never had dps that bad before.

      @@Gofr5 Well the problem with that is there are a lot of tanks that ignore the type of dps they're bringing along and pull multiple groups even though the dps are single target and not aoe. Not saying that was your case but I have seen that happen in groups many times too where tank pulls in a very inefficient manner. Understanding the dynamic of the whole group is important, including the cds and dps capability of the tank and healer as well as what abilities are available to the dps at the specific level sync the dungeon is at.
      I've also had tanks that do massive pulls and don't maintain aggro on all the mobs. Healer starts pulling mobs away with their heals, dps have to go after those to keep the party alive, meaning neither the healer nor the dps is able to work efficiently and everything takes way longer than it should have.

      @@Naraku-no-Hana-WE You make valid points for sure, depends on the game I guess. In FF14, every single class in the game has aoe abilities, so it's expected to always pull wall to wall in order to minimise time. Single pulls are generally frowned upon except in extenuating situations such as the one I had.

      As a healer main in WoW, Lineage, and FFxiv, I can confirm this. I start every dungeon or raid intending to do nothing but heal my party. After about the third or fourth time of the DPS running in by themselves and pulling a crowd of mobs that wipe the party, I tend to stop caring.

      Started playing LotRO as a red hunter recently, and I know this too well 😭 Our main tank has learned not to give me a damage buff against anything other than a boss, or I'll pull half the group off him and end up splitting the healer's attention between us, and it's an all around disaster.
