That's because ... nobody won.
If there is one of those things you really wish you could forget just to experience then again, this ERB has to be it. Disney's total dominion here is not even for debate, every bar was a scary heavy hitter one after the other. Every part of his performance gave me chill. "In fact I own this whole series" is such a meta flex too, considering that at the time Disney DID own ERB, and that ending with "Gaze upon my empire of joy!" followed by the instrumental ending is such a somber and amazing way to end the battle. There is no question of who won, nothing else to say, just absolute dominion by Disney owning everything and everyone involved, literally.

I wouldn't call it "true and real". Certain parts are *exaggerated,* like the fact that Disney is a greedy company. That's not inherintly true; they need large profit to continue expanding their entertainment.

The Disney company just kept sailing along the course Walt had set, after he died. And in point of fact, decades of outside influence and different visions from the subsequent 'monarchs' have resulted in 'The Mouse' softening compared to what Walt would've wanted.

As sad as it is that Stan Lee recently passed away. He lived a long and full life, he was almost 96. That life doesn’t really fit there, Jim Henson on the other hand passed away at a much younger age.
JJ Abeyta well, you’re right, but I think the point is that even if he could’ve lived until 195 (if quality of life was good that is) a lot of us would still think it would’ve been too soon. I’m 38 and the thought that I may only have another 40-50 years left is powerful af... these first 38 seem to have flown by, unless I’m at work, then it feels like time stopped 😐

That’s true but it’s only half the picture though, they buy out the stories but the stories come from humans in general. Yea it’s shitty sometimes, but it also has some collective wisdom contained within them. Disney can try and mess with it and maybe even succeed sometimes but there are stories that still hold within them meaning.

I regularly rewatch this and still tear up when Stan talks about missing Jim. It’s even sadder now since Stan is gone too.

Disney also didn't own Kermit and company until well after Jim had died. I wouldn't say Kermit was a secret agent but Kermit himself also realized that it was time to let go of Jim now that he is dead just like Jim had said to Stan right before Kermit left. Kermit went to Disney and Walt promptly bought both Marvel and The Muppets.
I borderline-disliked this when it came out, but over time it's become the most powerful and nostalgic ERB for me; it just always makes me wish there was more with these three.

@@gertrud8274 Because I (and everyone else) was expecting the battle to just be Jim Henson Vs. Walt Disney and to focus more on their characters and stories instead of being cynical satire on the Disney company. Seeing as this was the Disney brand's first direct representation in ERB, it came off as incredibly mean-spirited at the time, and failed to satisfy expectations because it's really not a depiction of Walt Disney at all; it's a personification of the modern-day company, with next to no references to the history of traditional Disney films and characters. In hindsight, the rapper should have been Mickey Mouse, who is much more recognizable as a universal figurehead for the Disney company and has less potential for a traditional ERB role compared to his creator.
That being said, the satire, in and of itself and disregarding all expectations that it subverted, is accurate, and Stan Lee's inclusion basically saved the battle.

I think Stan vs Jim was quite satisfying and after you said it, it definitely makes me want for more to this particular battle - there's Herge, Goscinny, Uderzo and a whole lot more to comics & characters than just these three and their world.

Generic 'evil corporate' persona is flexible and harmless to their brand because most people aren't aware of Disney's history stealing animation, horrible labor practices, and the sheer AMOUNT of companies they own. It was the safest way to drag him by making 'Walt' look like a winner. In a way where everyone kinda loses.
