Sad to hear of his illness. A really fantastic guitarist. Loved his stuff with The Power Station. Gave Duran a sharper edge, with his rockier riffs.
This man, and John Taylor, are the reason I’m a musician. Respect.
When I hear people say Duran Duran don’t belong in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, my first thought is, I guess they never heard Careless Memories played live, especially when Andy was in the group. Total Rocker! And there are others.
If Dolly is ok to be in the RRHOF and Eminem and Eurythmics then Duran Duran definitely are!!
don’t think this guy cares about R& R hall o fame . He sounds fine for a guy RUclips suggests is hurting. A guitar player , and his work is there .
@@deangray9552ctually, Andy does care. Watch his DD band mates reading his letter to the crowd during the RRHoF acceptance speech at their induction. 😎
As a lifelong Duran fan, it really warms my heart to see Andy looking and sounding so well...so happy.
I was thinking the exact same thing. With Duran or not, happiness is what matters. ❤️
I really miss this guy! I loved what he brought to the band.
@@DarthSiGi He will be doing a covers album at the end of 2023 with duran duran .
Just heard the news. Man I'm feeling down
My first concert was Duran Duran at the Forum in LA in '84 when I was 13. How I convinced my parents to let me go I will never know. It was so magical. DD ignited my love for music and concerts. My husband just took our 15 year old nephew to his first concert last month. I hope my nephew will be as stoked by his first concert experience as I was and will continue to be inspired by musical artists and the magical concert experience. I saw DD a few years ago at the Hollywood Bowl and I was transported back to my teenage years where anything was possible and dreams were on the horizon. I only wish Andy would have been there too. It's just not the same without him. His guitar riffs and personality can never be duplicated. :(
Andy's one of the dudes that so many people don't know about. Nearly everyone knows of Duran Duran, but oh man, The Power Station's debut in '85...that's the guitar sound. Loud & barking!! Love the solo song 'When The Rain Comes Down.' from the Miami Vice tv soundtrack album. Good 'ol Andy Taylor.
Duran fan since I was 12. D2 finally indicted to the RRHOF. Bittersweet to hear of Andy's Illness at the same time...
I always thought that Andy was the comedian of DD - you can tell he totally loves anything guitar. Power Station was amazing - heartbreaking to hear of his news - I'll always be proud to share my birthday with him ❤️
Andy's guitar sound from the early 80s was iconic, they shaped the Duran sound for me, those thin, chorussed arpeggios that he used all over Rio
are absolutely inspirational
I miss Andy in Duran Duran 😿
Duran needs Andy back. It ain’t the same without him. Andy adds character, grit & balls.
x1
I miss him too. But I love to see him happy doing what makes him happy.
Me too
Andy Don't..!!! And that's a shame
I personally think Andy is one of the most underrated guitar players period. He’s the example of a rocker who was stuck in a new wave band. When he was with Duran you could hear those riffs come out occasionally only to be muffled out by the rest of the band. He was too hard for his band mates.
I dunno. Listen to Arena, he’s very present on that live recording. In the studio, I agree with you, he was somewhat hidden. However , listen to the instrumental version of The Reflex and he’s very much present in the mix. It’s amazing
I agree. Especially when he was with Power Station.
Power station was simply amazing!
Exactly
Have to agree on the one hand that he is criminally underrated by the public and pop culture in a gigantic way. I'm not so sure he was too hard... they simply grew apart stylistically. But in the more recent live shows it's HUGELY evident the difference his playing brings to a song as "simple" as even "Girls on Film"... there are quite a few very good versions of it with other guitarists, but when Andy is inserted back into the track it gels and falls right into place. He's an incredible guitarist.
Fave Andy riff was in Lonely in Your Nightmare - he had this lovely golden shimmer sound going, just a smidge of distortion, but it really was like seeing sunset glittering off the sea.
To me he was the secret weapon of DD...tons of ideas and ability plus vocals.
Miss Andy in DD but been a fan during his solo career (Take It Easy is still one of my favorite songs to listen to) and of course the project he did with JT, Powerstation. Saw PS live in Orlando back in 97 and got to meet Andy and the band and they all signed their autographs for me cause I had Roger Palmer's brother standing next to me in the audience. Never forget that night
The best thing about listening to Arena is hearing Andy rock out a lot of the DD songs live
💯% I agree. Andy’s guitar made Duran rock!
Agree. It's quite a Paradox but Arena is the only album that sounds like DD in all their potential.
Particularly Union of the Snake, Girls on Film and Careless Memories. Such energy and grunt!!!!
Hugely underatted never got alook in as the other members because of there looks and height Andy never got a look in over shadowed every time... When he left the band and was absolutely right about the red carpet massacre album it was a disaster ruined with outside influences Andy spoke out he and Nick Rhode had words but Nick alway got his own way. Andy a great lead guitariest rock musican hadnt got a say.. i read his book and got alot of respect back for him im a Duranie through and through from 1981/2. Just sorry he couldnt make it to the ceramony, the rock and roll hall of fame as he has earnt it im devastated for him and his family DD hadnt sound the same from hes left a great loss.
I will always love Andy Taylor's musicianship. As for Duran Duran, no one will ever replace him. There are great guitarists...and there's the one and only fuckin' badass, ANDY TAYLOR!! He's an original and brought Duran Duran to a higher level. The band would have have reached the success they did without him.
Too right!
Amen!
To me you will always be the original DD guitar man. Fan since, 1983! Keep rocking man and thank you for your captivating guitar sounds.
Much love and respect to Andy Taylor… such a great guitarist and musician! I Loved his work with Duran Duran and The Power Station! Thanks 🙏
Andy Taylor as in the album Thunder Andy Taylor? I cannot BEGIN to express to you how I still listen to that album to this day and how ahead of your time you were! BRILLIANT ALBUM! CHEERS!
Yep, that Andy Taylor! I have that album too.
He also produced Thunders first album " Backstreet Symphony " which is a fantastic album..!!
Thunder is a good Album ♥
I listen to the album Thunder once every couple of weeks. Principally with headphones during my walks in the nature. It makes me feel so alive in the middle of this new normal dystopic enslaving society.
Totally agree 100% a fantastic album which didn’t get the recognition it truly deserved along with the single take it easy!
He was the best member of Duran Duran !
My fave member ❤️
Andy u ROCK !!! x
Read his autobiography about ten years ago. Making music saved his mental health when his mother left the family in 1972. It prevented him from cracking up as a teenager.
I love You Andy!
The riff on "get it on" in the Power Station group, i've got it in mind forever.
What a riff!
I was just watching Power Station performing this on SNL, they rocked it out! Andy really shines on that album along with everyone else.
You do know that Get It On is a T. Rex song?
@@niebuhrsongs Of course, but at the time when I was a kid first hearing the PS version, I had no idea it was a cover. Maybe that's why I much prefer the PS version over T-Rex.
@@RushTrader It is a stunning cover, making much better use of studio sound.
To this day, I hold onto this glimmer of hope that Andy will return to Duran Duran and patch things up. It isn’t likely, but a guy can still dream, right?
Maybe they will for the rock n roll hall of fame when they are inducted, but yeah....
Never say never...plus, it's happened before ...
@@tracytobias9367 Andy already confirmed he will.
I believe someday Andy will do a reunion tour, not sure when, but I believe he will someday, if even for a limited size tour. Who knows, maybe he'll enjoy it and do a longer tour. I just have a thinking it's very possible. Never stop dreaming, stay positive.
Andy is why duran got over here in the states...ive been a huge fan of Andy's since 82...I can't see duran in concert without him...I know more years without him than with him...90 percent of the iconic stuff was with andy...Noone sounds like andy taylor
Oh please. Warren was in guitar longer than Andy was.
I think that first sentence is really true. Besides the perfect timing of the MTV Video marketing frenzy, Andy gave Duran the bit of guitar edge they needed to get radio play in the states. His playing was fantastic on those Duran recordings. I agree, wasn’t interested in seeing DD live once Andy left. Was fortunate to see them twice with him in the band (Rio, 7&tRT tours). Also saw Power Station but Micheal Des Barres was sort of a bummer on that tour.
@@arcadia5607
And a better guitarist, in my opinion. I wish he was playing with Duran Duran now.
Agree on the breakthrough part especially compared to their new wave peers. That said, Warren also really put his stamp on the records loud and clear (I have so many favourites - the guitar licks in lake shore driving, first impression, white lines, ordinary world, electric barbarella, playing with uranium...).
The descent into electronica heavy stuff with the balance decisively to Nick happened the day they stopped having a full time guitarist, AYNIN was good due to the fanboy celeb producer, Paper Gods is where 70% of the songs sounded like EDM!
Andy Taylor is not just a great guitarist and brought in the "rock" elements in Duran Duran but very much overlooked as a backing singer in the band. The way his vocals would harmonise with Simon Le Bon's was just amazing, especially check out the live versions of 'New Religion' and 'Save a Prayer.' I wish Andy a full and speedy recovery.
Saw the Duran Duran reunion tour at MSG and they were unbelievable! Andy’s guitar playing was so important to their live shows, it’s never been the same!
100% agreed mate!
I'm a Duranie through and through but I must say, Andy is the most humble, the most consistently down to earth member of Duran that there ever was and will be. Andy doesn't need to talk himself up or rave about his achievements. He just flows natural. As a female I find that his lack of "modellizing" and more down to earth nature is so endearing. I know Andy had his moments with the pitfalls of fame and I am grateful for his honesty on that. Though I acknowledge the career minded talents of John Taylor (his tenacity and brain is oft overlooked because of his physical beauty) and of course the musical talents of all - the bass and synth was a brilliant element of the 'Duran Sound' - the bass being my personal favourite, but I would say it is largely Andy's guitar talent that drove Duran Duran to the States and they would be absolutely nowhere without him. Seriously, that Hungry Like The Wolf riff IS the 1980's. Planet Earth. The soaring riffs of New Religion, Save A Prayer... wow.No-one can play Duran songs like Andy and their live performance suffers without him terribly. It actually must have been tremendously hard for Andy as he was rarely (or never?) to my knowledge granted a guitar solo in any Duran Duran track. That's actually insane for such a great guitarist to not be offered that. I am a bass woman myself, but I recognise Andy for his extremely underrated fantastic guitar skill, his honesty, his talent and his Northerner humble and genuine nature which is present to this day despite all the fame... thankyou Andy. All the best and thank you for staying true.
Yes, sad, and many wonder why Andy was driven out of Duran Duran. It seems the rest of the band was reluctant to ever let him do his magic. Maybe with them being inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame, Andy and Duran Duran reunited show will go well and maybe they can consider doing more together again. I know many would love to attend a DD reunion tour with Andy.
I've never met Andy, but met Simon (and Nick, John and Warren) a few times. He was also very cool and down to earth. I was lucky enough to see Duran when Andy came back (I first saw them on the Notorious tour). I haven't seen them since then (but of course continue to buy and love the records) as for me, nothing could top seeing the original line up.
The only guitar solo I’m aware of is on ‘The Seventh Stranger’ it’s brief, but wonderful ❤
Never really heard Andy Taylor talk he seems a down-to-earth guy bless himb🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’m so glad I got to see him play 3 times on the Astronaut tour in 2005. I was feet away from him in Memphis where DD opened with Friends of Mine and damn I had tears in my eyes.
Me too... saw him/ them in Charlotte in July of ‘05 and they opened w Friends of Mine!! It was so loud and so good that I can still feel my chest thumping from it even today. It’s been over 16 years!!! AndyT and band sounded so good and totally rocked out that evening . My fav concert ever!!
Awesome...we missed the tours with the big 5 of them, you're lucky!
I saw them in L.A. in 1984 and remember not hearing the music much as the screaming was SO LOUD. When I saw Andy play again on the Astronaut tour, the band was SO tight, one of my fave DD shows of close to 30.
i think andy was the reason i loved duran ,he was the most normal person i could relate to,he was a northerner like me and i loved that .....just a bloke ...a normal lad living his dream ..good for you ...x
Ever since POWER STATION I have been a A Taylor fan!! I believe there, he was more able to show his rock guitar skills, Roger, Tony and Robert were the right members for this.
John, not Roger. ;) Roger was with Arcadia.
Not a guitarist but that guitar sound he brought to Duran Duran is amazing. Gives me a Gang of Four feeling
It was so great to see you, Andy! It’s been a while! I’ve been a Duranie since 1984. Maybe you got some of my letters lol. Anyway, I know something bad happened between you all, but don’t know what it was. But I did think it was quite nice that the band included you in the video for Anniversary. And it was the BLONDE you! I loved it!! I love you and miss you. I hope you guys can do the work and get through it for each other, and for your friendship. Not for any of us. I’m sorry if I was too forward. I just get so excited to see a new DD project, and then deflated you’re not there. I miss you. Take care.
Can't imagine a DD farewell tour (or the very last DD concert) without him and the songs of their 2 first albums (DD & Rio).
BEST DURAN ALBUMS ARE WITH ANDY!!!
Sei un grande Andy
Great interview, just Andy dropping some thoughts. I was lucky to see him on the Astronaut tour in 2005; he had missed a couple concerts just before. I had always been a fan of the heavier sounds on the first few albums, like Friends of Mine and Of Crime & Passion. He absolutely killed it at the concert. I vividly remember them playing Hold Back the Rain and was blown away with Andy's performance. Truly a moment in time. Now...they all need to make amends for five minutes and released Reportage.
God bless Andy Taylor
If Andy was part of the All You Need is Now album with DD, it wouldve been their all time masterpiece!!!!
I totally agree
Io credo che sia un gran album anche senza di lui.
Agreed, I even enjoy some of Red Carpet Massacre, but not having Andy on there? big missed opportunity.
We all need to bring Andy back🇮🇪
If my aunt had balls, we'd called my oncle..
It's good to see you're doing well Andy, you'll always be an original fab five Duran Duran for life❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Andy had such an awesome wardrobe in the 80’s, especially the red jacket he always wore. Incredibly talented, I’m glad to know he is still playing despite his cancer. Gives him something to live for, and I’m sure it’s very therapeutic as well. I hope he beats this or can at least get to the “living with cancer” stage. If he was diagnosed stage 4 six years ago, he’s definitely doing something right. We love you Andy!
Remember hearing the power station album in 85 when Andy was allowed to rock out and realising he could really play. Going to see Reef literally just to see him. He was clearly a rocker all along being into Lizzy etc but kind of used Duran as a vehicle
Check out the soaring riffs in New Religion good stuff
Andy kicks total ass!!
Union of the Snake on the Arena Live album killer guitar playing. Wish it was like that on the album version.
Duran NEEDS you.
Duran Duran don’t need Andy Taylor .Future Past album proves it .
@@paolagucciardini9994 you are 100% correct.
@@paolagucciardini9994 good album but needs heavier guitar, whether Andy or not.
Yes Duran Duran needs that guitar is the energy
Nah.
I love you Andy you are amazing 🤩
Cracking interview, so good to see Andy rocking out and passing on some pearls of wisdom,
Thank you!!
Andy great to see you at the 100 club, last time I saw you was 35 years ago in Brum respect that you remembered people along the way, now go get your medal at the rock and roll hall of fame and say hi to you fellow band mates and friends. Your guitar is sadly missed in that band you joined in Brum now buy me at pint at the crown you owe me.
My fave 🎸in Duran Duran. My fave. Guitar 🎸 Andy my first love 💕
I like Andy he always wears shades 24_7 ...he flew me out to his studio home in ibiza to lay down some bass trax ...Nice family ....chilled.. also recorded my album at real world with Steve Osborne on desk ..Great food
Its cool that DD still mention Andy in their interviews.
"Teach your fingers to do what you hear in your head" might be the greatest, most poetic way I have ever heard of describing what it means to be a musician.
I think Duran should make a rock album with Andy that would be awesome, i miss the rock/guitar sound in their music
They just released a new album ,"future past", with graham coxon of blur on guitars.Duran duran is a synth pop/rock band not a pure rock band.Pure rock music is dead these days .

I like the new album but too "dance" for me. Remember its Andys guitar sound that created the biggest Duran hits. I doubt Duran care whats "in" these days.Rock music aint dead, take a look at the top touring acts!
The last Album he made with Duran remains unreleased so maybe one day soon they will put it out.
@@mrfrisky2997 he left after Astronaut. What album was there?
Andy blended and contrasted so perfectly for Duran Duran. The very best players know what to play & when not to play.
I was at Weyfest a couple of years ago and missed the Reef performance. Was totally gutted to learn Andy was on stage with them.
Lebowski' s dress code ❤️
I'm just a bit older, but they made great music, princess Diana's favorite band😁
Good to see Andy looking well 👍 👌 😀
He's right about not needing ecstasy to feel rock n roll. I met a fruitarian yoga teacher in December 2001 standing on his head on Manley beach in Sydney. I asked him why he did it, just eating loads of fruit and doing loads of yoga. He asked if I'd ever taken ecstasy. Yes, I replied, loads. Well... You know that feeling when your just coming up on ecstasy? Yes, I said... Well... He said... That's how I feel ALL THE TIME.
I am a huge lifelong Duran Duran fan. When they broke up and did their side projects, I thought that Arcadia sounded very Duran Duran. Loved it! And Power Station blew my mind! I LOVED this sound! Andy gave me an appreciation for the guitar. I have been blessed to see them many times. And seen Andy many times too. I will never forget just watching him perform White Lines. It is always a very fun song at a live show. But this one show, I just had these moments with Andy where I just watched him and thought to myself, ‘What a bad ass!’. Just awe! I am very sad about his illness. I pray for him all the time. He and Duran Duran have been with me my whole life since I was 9.
Hello Andy I hope your reading this I just want to say I hope you’re doing well and you are in my prayers for healing strength 🙏🙏Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 to you and your family ❤
Andy is a proper down to earth north east lad.
Such a great musician. Loved meeting him in 2005.
Was he nice?
Definitely an underrated guitarist. He's looking his age too. Been Duran Duran fan since 1983.
Here, here!
Very underrated I seen him with Duran and Power Station and Solo. Amazing guitar player.
DD withou you ,AT , it´s not the same. Astronaut it´s a prove of that. Always love your music specially THUNDER, so....do never stop playing man! Argentina loves you ❤️❤️
Rockin' The Blues Brothers glasses. You're on a mission from God! Rock On Andy! Nice speech.

Andy Taylor, Warren Cuccurullo, and Steve Hackett!!!!
I can't tell you how much I miss seeing Andy with DD. I've never been a Reef fan but I'm glad he's happy. Now if only he could get that new solo album out.
Remember Power Station tearing it up on late night SNL maybe ? Thrashing a black tele stuck with me 🙂
Andy! One of my favorites in Duran Duran. I still love em with or without him but I’m glad he seems to be doing well😌
Andy is the DUDE!!!!!!!!
I saw DD in 82 in NYC opening for Split Enz, then later in the month at the Peppermint Lounge, a bit later at the Ritz. Andy's guitar is the DD sound. Nothing against Warren or Dom but when Andy is with the other four something just clicks. He adds the rock element that makes the sound different. I liked the fact that he kept turning up the amp.
Andy please come back to DD. You are needed urgently for the real DURAN sound....((
Give it up.
Graham Coxon has done a fantastic job on the new album. I've hated everything since Poptrash...including the boring Astronaut album when he came back.
@@Clem_Fandango11 Astronaut was excellent! So was All You Need Is Now. I agree with you about Coxon though...nice work!

Fantastic interview, I went to a Duran Duran CD signing in about 2004, and just before the band came out they announced Andy wasnt there as he was poorly, I was gutted as you were my favourite band member, would've liked to have chatted with you. Good to see you still doing your thing!

'Take It Easy' by Andy is my go to pick me up song.
And I've ALWAYS wanted to record at Real World Studios.
Great vid!
I Love Andy's grey hair!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video! Andy is a BRILLIANT guitarist! So many of my favorite Duran Duran songs are from the time when Andy was with the band..he gave an unforgettable rock n roll edge that fit the music perfectly. The same applies to The Power Station, as well as his contribution to Belinda Carlisle's 'Mad About You,' and others no doubt. Yes, a brilliant guitarist - one of the greatest, in my opinion, of all time♥️
No question Andy is sorely missed by DD fans. Without his rock influence, the band has lost it's edge. With him rocking and John playing the bass off him al-la Power Station the band now only has two dimension instead of 3. Keep rocking Andy Taylor 🎶🎸🎙✌🙏❤
Uh no.
Interesting man. The rocker of Duran. I like his riff on Friends of Mine alot and that soaring sound on Friends of Mine amongst many others. Duran deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. The Power Station was great also. Much respect Andy.
Wow, this is insane: He is 60 y.o... and I just turned 52 not long ago. That means when I was a teeny-bopper gay dude geeking out to DD at maybe 15-ish (had a huge crush on Simon and Roger)... they were already in their early 20s?! My goodness, how time flies. Note to the newer DD fans in their 20s... enjoy life because it truly DOES GO BY QUICK!

Get better Andy our thoughts with you mate.
Dear Andy, I'm a Duranie from Hong Kong since 1982. I was 16 back then. You and DD's music really truly shaped my youth! I've been wondering is there any chance that you would reunite with DD, even for just once more...? Being an outsider, I have no idea whether there's really so much hatred/misunderstanding between you & other members of DD... All I know is: the clock is ticking... for all of us.
The problem is: He and Nick don`t get along with each other, they never have - they are totally different in their approach towards music and life in general. Andy is vivid and spontaneous, Nick is quite the opposite. Or as a fan once said: In Duran Duran Andy served the beer and the steaks, Nick served the Champagne and the chocolates :-) I love both of them, though :-)
There is a little story in "wild boy" about his first encounter with Nick ... Andy tried to start a conversation, showing interest in what Nick was doing on the keyboards - Nick just rose an eyebrow, saying:"Yer so???" - Conversation over ...
