Ahh, gen x, that understood at 18 you are an adult now. Still amazed that a bunch of 18 year olds wrote the perfect song for 50 year old people that understand every single word of this song.
CANADIANS eh! My local classic rock afternoon DJ must have issues or nostalgic for his teen years because he has played this song every day this week. It’s stuck in my head.
One of the best lyrics in history ....... "No more boy meets girl, boy loses girl,, more like man tries to understand what the hell went wrong." ... hahahah beautiful.
*_"MAN TRIES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HELL WENT WRONG". ROLLING MY NAKED EYES! HEY "MAN", IF YOU CAN'T GET WHAT WENT WRONG, SHE PROBABLY WENT OUT & GOT INTO A LESBIAN RELATIONSHIP_*
I lived downtown 86-90 and you were pretty well guaranteed to see the sunglasses salesman, the old guy who talked to himself, the harmonica cowboy. This video brings back so many memories!
Yep, like the shaky lady at Bay and Bloor, the old guy who sang cowboy tunes at Yonge and Bloor ( sometimes on Carlton st) and the lady who wore all black leather coat and warding off spirits in the downtown PATH.
Talk about an anthem that perfectly captures the angst of becoming an adult. Best line has to be “Adult sex is either boring or dirty, Young people they can get away with murder”. This was downtown Toronto when it was still a bit gritty and before it became gentrified. The stretch of Queen Street is deserted so it must have been shot on a Sunday as back then Sunday shopping was still illegal in Ontario. Toronto has become shinier and glitzier but it’s lost a bit of that edginess as long as you can avoid the occasional gunfire.
Back when Queen West & Yonge Street had flavour. Moe gotta be hitting 55 to 60 now. I loved that song. TPOH was so underrated. They were underground before the term existed. Moe the last I heard he was an instructor at Seneca teaching some kind of music course or studio engineering. Thanks for the memories and adding more grey to my hair and beard. Loved this video
I was 18 when this song premiered in the States, just graduated high school, it encapsulated what I was going through at the time. Plus, it was also a kickass song on an album where every track was a winner.
I worked at Xrays, Queen St W in Toronto and was a HUGE TPOH fan and one day Moe Berg came in and he was shy and kinda geeky and I loved him even more.
Ahh the good old days of Toronto. Why haven't they been inducted in the Canadian Hall of Fame? Music hall of fame? The days of Moe. They were very underrated group. Saw all of their videos when they were released. Still put on some TPOH from time to time.
I saw these guys at the Horseshoe around '86/'87 and they were fucking great, I remember being shit-faced and telling Moe Berg what a bad-assed show it was, he was really dorky and kind...
IMO... a crown has many jewels, each displaying their own light. Let’s just say that these boys kick ass!!, as does The Hip (RIP Gord). I’m close to sixty and in a band of likeminded old farts (of which I’m the eldest). We are adding this one (TPOH) to our roster, which already has The Hip’s Courage, alongside Max Webster’s Hangover, etc. 🇨🇦 🎸
I'm glad I got to experience the more exciting Toronto of old when I was young. Thankfully I've reached the "settle down and enjoy the comfort of a nice property away from the crowds" stage before it was turned into a large, boring, overpriced mall.
Well, I don't hate my parents I don't get drunk just to spite them I've got my own reasons to drink now I think I'll call my dad up and invite him I can sleep in till noon anytime I want Though there's not many days that I do Gotta get up and take on that world When your an adult it's no cliche it's the truth 'Cause I'm an adult now I'm an adult now I've got the problems of an adult On my head and on my shoulders I'm an adult now I can't even look at young girls anymore People will think I'm some kind of pervert Adult sex is either boring or dirty Young people they can get away with murder I don't write songs about girls anymore I have to write songs about women No more boy meets girl boy loses girl More like man tries to understand what the hell went wrong 'Cause I'm an adult now I'm an adult now I've got the problems of an adult On my head and on my shoulders I'm an adult now I'm an adult now I'm an adult now I can't take any more illicit drugs I can't afford any artificial joy I'd sure look like a fool dead in a ditch somewhere With a mind full of chemicals Like some cheese-eating high school boy 'Cause I'm an adult now I'm an adult now I've got the problems of an adult On my head and on my shoulders I'm an adult now Sometimes my head hurts and sometimes my stomach hurts And I guess it won't be long For I'm sitting in a room with a bunch Of people whose necks and backs are aching Whose sight and hearing's fading Who just can't seem to get it up Speaking of hearing, I can't take too much loud music I mean I like to play it, but I sure don't like the racket Noise, but I can't hear anything Just guitars screaming, screaming, screaming Some guy screaming in a leather jacket Woah! Way back in the day memories of a Toronto that has nearly disappeared in time. Yeah, this is exactly how downtown Toronto looked in the eighties, lots of street performers, parking lots, porn movie theatres and strip clubs, and fast-food restaurants. It was far different, but far grittier and dodgy back then
Moe was a was a weasley little freak. Damn I love him. The video cost a hundred bucks to make but it is a timeless masterpiece. There are geniuses out there man.
Yes people we were a gritty rough around the edges looking city back in the 80’s. I like to remind the young kids that think we have always had this great fortune and prosperity
Product of the early video fame. In an interview Moe Berg (lead singer) says they made the video even before they had a record or any kind of deal. Once they convinced Much Music (Canada's version of MTV) to play the video people clamored for the record. So they made a 1000 copies, sold out, made more, sold out and then they got a deal with a Warner Bros to make more music.
Interesting how many Canadian artists are contracted, still today. For example; Drake or Justin B. etc. others. But the tunes still hit, disregard era.
The riot at the Beverly Crest in Edmonton about 1980 when they weren't allowed to play their last set??? Bad idea Crest??? Complete KAOS! I was 19, it really was something, another great memory in my 63 old life...Great song & band, so much fun!
I remember seeing this video in 1987 on CBC, the show Video Hits... it blew my tiny young mind I'd sure look like a fool lying dead in a ditch somewhere with a mind full of chemicals like some cheese-eating high school boy
in 1989 i felt the crush of this songs lyrics as i got engaged at 21yrs old…the expectations of everyone around me to do the right thing and be a man….i felt like my life was over, now here at 54 i’d like to go back and tell myself things will be ok actually better than ok…and she was going to be a selfish bitch…winning!
Awesome! Best version of this song before Todd Rundgren studio sweetened it to death. Any chance of the original version of "She's so young" getting posted? It's way better than the Rundgren version
That's a pretty good guitar solo. What the hell is that at 2:45? This must be the original recording of the song. There's another version that's more polish but with the same lyrics
While he covers some great points but I like to think of adulthood as the end of your developmental stage. The scary path realising your potential has been set has come nigh and it's the time to understand what these potentials are and how to settle life accordingly. Of course the backaches and stuff but those seem pretty shallow imo. Well maybe once you actually get settled those things are the things you worry about.
Is this an original recording done prior to the album release? These guys were great. I listened to them during my college years, but unfortunately I never had a chance to see them in person. Ah well.
Listening to this at 17 I laughed and laughed!!! Listening to this at 40 I crying in my beer..
Too funny! And sadly, we all know what you mean. :)
The exact Same thought over here!
😅😢
100% accurate
😆😅🤣😁😎
I know that feeling too well.... Well???
I miss this Toronto
We all do
Ahh, gen x, that understood at 18 you are an adult now. Still amazed that a bunch of 18 year olds wrote the perfect song for 50 year old people that understand every single word of this song.
there's something very Kids in the Hall about this...
CANADIANS eh! My local classic rock afternoon DJ must have issues or nostalgic for his teen years because he has played this song every day this week. It’s stuck in my head.
Kids in the Hall definitely did a skit or two in the same area of Queen Street West.
@@kathypiazza7228 I hear this very often too, which is why I looked it up. Creston BC radio which I get in Montana 😅
As a Canadian I know this is a very good compliment
Yeah, this was their part of Queen West, not far from the Bamboo and the Rivoli. Used to see them on this stretch all the time.
One of the best lyrics in history .......
"No more boy meets girl, boy loses girl,, more like man tries to understand what the hell went wrong." ... hahahah beautiful.
Rick Shaw What does that girl say been trying to figure it out for years
*_"MAN TRIES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HELL WENT WRONG". ROLLING MY NAKED EYES! HEY "MAN", IF YOU CAN'T GET WHAT WENT WRONG, SHE PROBABLY WENT OUT & GOT INTO A LESBIAN RELATIONSHIP_*
@@ericportwood950 the backing vocals are harmonizing with the tail end of the lead vocal line. They're singing, "ooooohh, head and my libido".
Jose Nunez perfect
Absolutely. Just perfect.
Simple, clean....all the right chords hittin hard at the right time, ...lyrics -perfect.... under-rated tune by a mile...
love this song
Queen St before they buried it under condos good times.
I lived downtown 86-90 and you were pretty well guaranteed to see the sunglasses salesman, the old guy who talked to himself, the harmonica cowboy.

Exactly....
Yep, like the shaky lady at Bay and Bloor, the old guy who sang cowboy tunes at Yonge and Bloor ( sometimes on Carlton st) and the lady who wore all black leather coat and warding off spirits in the downtown PATH.
Yeah and what are the downtown Toronto sights like now? Do you even want to walk around there to see anymore?
Talk about an anthem that perfectly captures the angst of becoming an adult. Best line has to be “Adult sex is either boring or dirty, Young people they can get away with murder”.

Oh damn! I’d forgotten about this! Laughed at it at 18, reminiscing about the good old days now at 50. 😩
Ugh same here I was 18 now 50
I am a 12 year old in 59 year old body dont get me wrong I was employed for 35+ years but adulting sucks

Im 73 now and Moe use to play with us at Applause Club in Edmonton before he leave for Toronto. Best move ever.
Would love to see Moe now.
I was 18 when this song premiered in the States, just graduated high school, it encapsulated what I was going through at the time. Plus, it was also a kickass song on an album where every track was a winner.

That's a real CUTE Story, but hé does seem "Shy" but So GIFTED as a Songwriter that surely influences Many Alt-Rockers!
Thank You for sharing...
he could be introverted ... its common that artists are. often ppl think shy when its introvertedness. @@jeffreybarkin3177
WOW! Toronto sure looks different then and now!! I remember when this was shot downtown!
FINALLY - a clear, crisp version of the original
Classic song and hilarious video. I can't stop laughing when he's singing at the little boy.
Toronto in the 80s...wow!!!
Everywhere was awesome in the 80's!!

Love my Ontario bands...we fucking know how to kick ass........
I saw these guys at the Horseshoe around '86/'87 and they were fucking great, I remember being shit-faced and telling Moe Berg what a bad-assed show it was, he was really dorky and kind...
There's a sign for the movie wild cats so this has to be around 1986
5 years later this song still means something at 71yo
IMO... a crown has many jewels, each displaying their own light. Let’s just say that these boys kick ass!!, as does The Hip (RIP Gord).

If you see the Rockwell store, that is where the present-day Dundas square now exists.in Toronto
Well, I don't hate my parents
I don't get drunk just to spite them
I've got my own reasons to drink now
I think I'll call my dad up and invite him
I can sleep in till noon anytime I want
Though there's not many days that I do
Gotta get up and take on that world
When your an adult it's no cliche it's the truth
'Cause I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now
I can't even look at young girls anymore
People will think I'm some kind of pervert
Adult sex is either boring or dirty
Young people they can get away with murder
I don't write songs about girls anymore
I have to write songs about women
No more boy meets girl boy loses girl
More like man tries to understand what the hell went wrong
'Cause I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I can't take any more illicit drugs
I can't afford any artificial joy
I'd sure look like a fool dead in a ditch somewhere
With a mind full of chemicals
Like some cheese-eating high school boy
'Cause I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now
Sometimes my head hurts and sometimes my stomach hurts
And I guess it won't be long
For I'm sitting in a room with a bunch
Of people whose necks and backs are aching
Whose sight and hearing's fading
Who just can't seem to get it up
Speaking of hearing, I can't take too much loud music
I mean I like to play it, but I sure don't like the racket
Noise, but I can't hear anything
Just guitars screaming, screaming, screaming
Some guy screaming in a leather jacket
Woah!
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I've got the problems of an adult
On my head and on my shoulders
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now
I'm an adult now

ah 1987 Toronto ! what a time
One of the coolest bands and songs to come out of the 80's. More Moe please.
Mo' Moe!
his solo album was great too
That parking lot is the new MEC.
He had it all figured out early.
I miss the Horseshoe, I saw Roy Buchanan there and Blue Rodeo...
I remember this song when I was 18 now iam in my fifties and I'm going to be a grandmother 😭
I recognize every location on this video.
the follow up to this when we all become senior citizens will be: im an infant again
I'm an adult that wears the same concert shirts that I still do, you should too.
Keep yourself and the rock alive.
Turns out you can have a mind full of chemicals as an adult
How in the heck did I miss this little gem?
Cig dangles by them is awesome as well.
Dat distinctive 80s Toronto/Canadian rock sound...
The Northern Pikes were pretty great too
Man, awesome riffs in this song!
I pretty much looped this song when I got my non-learner driver's licence. At 33.
Just discovered this gem. A masterpiece. Simply brilliant.
This is the correct video for this song.
Moe was a was a weasley little freak. Damn I love him. The video cost a hundred bucks to make but it is a timeless masterpiece. There are geniuses out there man.
Canadian rock, haven't heard these guys in years, but it's so good.
Love seeing old Toronto
I forgot how much I love this band ! Miss the 80’s so much.
I had this song in my head during my high school graduation.
Yes people we were a gritty rough around the edges looking city back in the 80’s. I like to remind the young kids that think we have always had this great fortune and prosperity
That empty lot on Queen St West where they are standing is now huge MEC store. 😕

This is the most raw video which makes it great.....a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!
Classic song that means so much to anybody that really grows up.

2023 here TORONTO STAND UP! What a wicked video and song.
I loved going to Toronto in the 80's and 90's. I wouldn't go near it now, and that's not just the old person in me talking.
Here before this does viral. But it totally deserves it.
TPOH opened for the Replacements in PGH PA, they finished with this tune, the Mats finished with Nevermind. One of the best shows of my life.
The riot at the Beverly Crest in Edmonton about 1980 when they weren't allowed to play their last set??? Bad idea Crest??? Complete KAOS! I was 19, it really was something, another great memory in my 63 old life...Great song & band, so much fun!
I am talking about Automatic Kid!
Always loved this song and video!!!
I still prefer this version to the overproduction on the Todd Rundgren version....
Toronto 1986
I love this song, New wave rules!
Damn it I'm a senior now !
1.5 speed does seem to add to it as an awesome 80s Canadian pop punk song
I'll try that now
I`m a senior now. I got the pains of an old man now.
I remember seeing this video in 1987 on CBC, the show Video Hits... it blew my tiny young mind

1990 K-Rock Geelong....we rocked it.
Love the lyrics ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you utoob for having this classic.
The lead singer always gave me a serial killer vibe back when I was a kid. Awesome song😊
I can smell the toxic chemicals from the 1980s sharpie at 3:50 through my smartphone.

It was a single they recorded in 1986, two years before they re-recorded it for Love Junk.

This is better than Rungren. Jeez.
