I’m so sorry, I never knew until today that Phyllis passed away. My condolences to her family. I’ve made at least 12 jelly rolls using her recipe, one was double in size by doubling up on the recipe as I wanted it to be my birthday cake. A fabulous recipe! ❤️🤗👍🏼

Just love your videos. I still cook from scratch. I am 65 yrs. Old. I stir fry, do vegetarian, and other more modern cooking also, but I love the good old food of our childhood. We didn't call it comfort food It was just Food, Ha! I do remember the little jelly rolls also. Loved them. I really think they were hostess. We lived in Memphis back then. Wish we could sit down and have a cup of coffee and a slice of jelly roll or pie etc. And talk about cooking and the old days. Thank you so much for your show. It lifts my spirits in the midst of having to try and keep my hubby on his heart healthy diet. At least I can dream about these things, ha!

Peach Jelly rolls were so good, you could get the large one or the package of 3 small ones. They had a coating of sugar on the outside and the raspberry jelly inside. Why do they stop making some of the stuff that was so good. There was a cereal made by Kellogg’s that I liked it was called Krumbles it was thin little strips and Betty Crocker made a date bar cookie mix that was so good, also they had a coconut macaroon mix that I loved.

In the 1970s I used to make a Buche de Noel for Christmas dessert. Fancy French name but still a jelly roll. I'd make mine with peppermint flavored whipped cream, chocolate sponge cake, then frost it with butter cream chocolate frosting. I'd take a fork and draw marks to make it look like wood. Decorate the plate with sprigs of holly. Looked fantastic, tasted fantastic, wowed the Christmas guests. Did everything -- rolling it in a cloth tea towel -- exactly like you do it. (Just dusted with cocoa powder.)

I went and bought a jelly roll pan. I looked at the ones you recommend and while they look good, I saw the reviews on the USA pans and decided to go with those. I got it in and was wowed how heavy it is! I think I am going to slowly replace all my bakeware with USA pans at Amazon. I have been looking for really heavy duty pans forever and these are very thick. Hope you go check them out! My husbands favorite cake is pineapple and i plan to make a pineapple jelly roll! Wish me luck!

Thanks for the recipe. I've been looking for this particular recipe for a very long time, at last, I've found it, thanks to you. I use to buy the jelly roll from the local grocery stores here in Hawaii when I was growing up in the 50s. I miss those old fashioned jelly rolls. I'll make one small modification though by coating the outside surface with jelly also, then sprinkling it with grated coconut. That's how I remember it in Hawaii. First chance I get, I'll try your recipe. Let the old times roll jelly roll. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for demonstrating how to do it and I'll definately have to get me some of those pans now. She always used her homemade wild blackberry jelly and it was delicious. Hi Susan,
My current plans are to make one with peanut butter and have a cream cheese and peanut butter filling and for sure it will be sweet. I love peanut butter, we use it several times per week in our morning smoothies.
Have not worked on this recipe yet - it will take a little prayer and work to get it right. I've found that if I pray about the recipe first and then try it out it almost always works the first time. I have made the chocolate but never the pumpkin, it sounds good. Phyllis

I also remember they put them out on a damp cloth rather than one sprinkled with powdered sugar. (The powdered sugar makes more sense to me though) I live in Texas.

He would buy us a chocolate eggcream and on the counter were the snack cakes...yum! Anyway, they came in single or pks of 3. They were Dolly Madison jelly rolls. I think they also had jam on the outside n coated in coconut. Then there were the Swiss rolls. I think I liked those better, lol... Chocolate cake rolled up with white buttercream. How I wish I could go back just for a day!

I've been buying my real vanilla extract there for years. It's very inexpensive and comes in a bottle that holds at least 8 ounces and costs about the same as those tiny ones in the regular grocery store. They also have a convenient hole in the cap that pours easily into a measuring spoon.

Little Mickey Cakes made the first one I ever ate. Also made the Banana Flip which was my second favorite. Late 1950’s, in Texas. I think Hostess made both as well. I have made your version of the jelly roll and it was delicious. Need to find a good recipe for a Banana Flip which was sponge cake with banana cream folded up like an omelette. Thanks for posting the jelly roll recipe. It was great. Subscribed!

Phyllis this looks so good! I always wondered how these were made. It's like a cinnamon roll but done with a cake instead of bread. I'm going to give this a shot and see I'm capable. ;)
Thank you for posting and God bless you, Mr. Bucky and the babies.
