Gosh I miss this lady. I refer to her still for southern cooking. Just planted okra this spring. I’ll once again come back & cook those smothered pork chops with fried okra this coming summer months. Thank you to her son for keeping these videos. May she Rest In Peace...sweet lady Phyllis!
Honey I am so glad that you shared your recipes with us, because like my mom nor my grandma didn’t cook much so they didn’t have recipe’s to leave. I love the way you talk us thru your cooking recipe.
Your voice is so soothing, I love your calm relaxed demeanor. How sweet of you to take the time to teach us how to cook these old heirloom recipes! Thank you!
Thanks to everyone for watching and making such great comments. We were not able to cut the pie until about 10:30 last night, I had a big slice and it promptly put me to sleep in the recliner and I missed all the late news on TV.
You are my hero! I'm 73 yrs old, love to bake and have NEVER made homemade pie crust! .- UNTIL NOW. I took a deep breath and tried your recipe. OMG I've made four crusts in three days. Each one turned out perfect!!! My mom would use her pie crust scraps to make little cinnamon roll ups, so that's what I've been making with your easy, delicious crust recipe. Using our favorite family recipes, I've been making a little cook book for my grand daughter. Now I have THE quintessential pie crust recipe to add to her cook book. I did recommend that she watch this video so she could see your technique. Thank you SO much for this and all of your wonderful recipes.
I'm a few years older than you and my mother would make what we called "parties" with her crust scraps. They were strips of dough that we sprinkled sugar and cinnamon on. Oh, how special I thought those were.
Rest in peace my dear ❤ I truly miss seeing you make my favorite recipes. I am so glad we still can see you frozen in time as my go to old fashion recipes.
I miss Ms. Phyllis alot...I couldn't watch her videos until now...I needed to make a lemon meringue pie for my husband..so I knew I would get a good pie watching Ms. Phyllis...so here I am...it was good listening and watching her...🥰❤️
I also grew up in the 50's and my mom cooked and baked just like you , and now i cook very much like mom did..thank you for memories , love your channel...
Dear sweet Phyllis, how I miss you. I must’ve missed this video back in the day. I’ll need to find another one to see Mr Bucky. I love Lemon Meringue Pie & for sure I’ll use your pie crust recipe. R.I.P. Phyllis & Mr Bucky❤
It just is so interesting how things we remember from our childhood make us feel so good when we get older. My mom made this pie. This is more comforting to me than apple pie. Loved watching you make this Phyllis. Thanks!
I made this pie today. Oh my gosh it was so good! The first lemon meringue pie I have ever made. The crust was the flakiest ever. My family said it was a success. Only thing I did wrong, I didn't get meringue sealed to crust on one side so it kinda shrunk a bit.
I am going on 23 years of Marriage to my wonderful husband. His absolute favorite dessert is Lemon Meringue pie. I have never made one for him. I am thankful for your recipe and instructions here. I will surprise him soon.
Thank you thank you l have been looking for this recipe for years . Old school and the best a around ✌🏾️👍🏿😆🤗. You guys don't know what your missing so good .
You have such a soothing, relaxed voice and demeanor and I love how you take us back to our childhood with your recipes. My Mom and grandma used this same recipe and I’m glad you’ve brought it back to us. I’ve been craving my Mom’s lemon meringue pie and couldn’t find her recipe! Thanks. I’m making it tomorrow😃
This is the very same lemon pie that I learned to make when I was first married back in the late sixties. Love this pie. My favorite. Love your videos. You cook like I do.
My husband's birthday is next Friday Dec 10th and lemon meringue pie is his absolute favorite pie. I have never baked one until now. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!!
Hi Phyllis!, I commented last week when I made this for my mother but now it's friday night and I have a picnic to attend tomorrow, so I'm making this pie and your Butterscotch pie. I want to thank you again for teaching me FINALLY to make consistent crusts! I watched how you do it and I shuddered.. I said "shes squeezing the dough and it looked like at first what I was taught never to do ( over work the crust) but what I discovered was that I wasn't working it enough! Every crust I made before NEVER held together right and I would be rebuild it in the pie plate! lol But now, I make them just like you do and CONSISTENT results! I used to combine butter and shortening and it would turn out decent but an all butter crust I was never happy with till I made it your way for the butterscotch pie!! THE best butter crust ever!! Although the shortening crust I love and the flakyness beats the butter one of course. So thanks again for making me a pro :) Next I want to order some organic leaf lard and try it your way.. I bet it will be superb! Sorry for rambling on, but I'm very happy :)
Glad the crust worked out for you. Nothing more discouraging than to have to rebuild the pie crust in the pie plate, that has happened to me many times. One note on rebuilding in the pie plate is no one ever knows how hard you worked to make it look good because the filling always covers up the mistakes. Have I ever just balled up a crust and thrown it in the garbage can? YES.
When I was around 14-15 years old my two friends and I would make a lemon meringue pie on a Friday or Saturday night. We each would do a part because the pie is in 3 parts. I remember we actually made some pretty good pies 😄
I’m not much of a cook but had a longing for this pie. My aunt used to make them when I was a child & I still remember the taste. I’ve had desserts over the years but they’ve never really tasted the same. I picked this recipe because it was old school & I have to say it didn’t disappoint. I made a fine job of it & it tasted delicious. Thank you..x
i never thought of rolling out my pie crust on plastic wrap.... but am going to try this recipe forsure.... my sweet daddy loved lemon meringue pie....love watching your video of all the classic recipes god bless
Hi Phyllis. Hope you are feeling better . I've had you and your family in my prayers. I have made lemon meringue pie from this recipe several times and it is my "go-to" recipe because it's the BEST ON THE BLOCK!! I wanted a recipe to bake a lemon meringue pie like my grandmother and mother made when I was a child. THIS IS IT !!!!!
Omg!! I can’t thank you enough!! I started making these for my then boyfriend, back in 1973… but used the Argo cornstarch… I made it so , so often in the 70’s and 80’s… in my teens and 20’s that I knew it off by heart… I’d written it down for a couple friends .. but have in the last 10 years or so .. gotten worried about the ant of sugar /water sometimes because I’ve always doubled .. when I’ve looked for it on line, they give a whole bunch of recipes-close, but not the same … I did find one of mine written on a recipe card… but it was written in haste, using my own shorthand, and it’s only half there!!! So..a huge THANK YOU!!
"Clabber Lady or somethin' like that.." 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love this woman.. best recipes too.. vintage secret recipes.. Thank you Phyllis For all the videos you made..💜
Ms. Phyllis, my deceased and missed Mama would put extra lemon juice in her lemon pies because I always liked sour lemon pies. oh what a Mama would do for her children. Thanks for another great video.
My grandmother made the one on the Cream brand Cornstarch box. Following it carefully, I could also do a good pie, and I am not a good cook. I have only ever been able to reliably turn out not a high number of " classic " meal items. I kept us alive, as I used to say!
I just took my pie out of the oven & its cooling, I will refrigerate over night, pack it up & take to my little brother, since this was his favorite pie Mom made when we were kids. TYVM for posting this old recipe.
I am back here looking for the pie crust recipe instead of buying the pie crust ready made. Sometimes everybody decides to make pies at the same time and I can't get the deep-dish pie crust I usually buy. (Thank you for keeping your Mama's recipes available.)
Only thing I never could quite handle was the expression " women stayed home, they didn't work.". I wager that the vast majority of stay- at- home women throughout history definitely put in at LEAST an 8 hour day of necessary work, despite being home all day. That expression, " man works from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done.". Definitely has applied in countless situations
Ms. Phyllis, this pie was awesome!!! All your videos, food and helpful hints are simply great. Thanks for teaching me so much! Here is my pie I made from your video, first time making a pie from scratch. Thanks again! ~~Kim, North Carolina
This looks great. I have only ever made one lemon meringue pie. I like the peaks and the little droplets that form on top. Mostly, though, I love the intense lemon flavor. I had a lemon tree in my yard and made lemon curd using lemons from it and it was amazing.
Phillis, I have never seen anyone bake as well as you since my grandma. When can I move in so I can learn all this good stuff. Coconut cream and chocolate pies are my fav.
Miss Phyllis, I don't know if you have heard of this little trick but if you put a piece of plastic wrap on the grater before zesting the lemon. when you are through just lift the plastic off of the grater and almost all of your zest will be on the plastic and an easier grater to clean. I hope you give it a try. I love all you do. Oh and one more thing. I am from Douglasville Georgia and so most of the time I eat Ga. Peaches but this week found in out Food Depot store, South Carolina peaches. They were really good and sweet. Got them just because I see you bought them and they were great. Thanks for all you do and a Big Hi to Mr. Buckey
just made the apple pie and the crust was oh my gahhh to die for delicious!!! cant wait to make this ..thank you for all your videos they are very instructional and soo delicious ..
I have baked your pie and I have to say that I have never tasted a better lemon meringue pie! This IS the pie that my mother and grandmother used to bake. I've tried other recipes but yours is the best by far! The only thing I'd add is to wrap the grater in plastic wrap before you grate the lemon rind. The plastic wrap allows you to remove all of the rind without any hassle. It also makes the clean-up easier! Now I'm gonna look for your chocolate meringue pie video...if it's HALF as good as your lemon meringue I'm ready to marry you ! ; > )
Hello Miss Phyllis, I tried this recipe and my pie came out perfect! It was so beautiful and taste so good! It was even loved by a family member that doesn't even like lemons. Thank you for this old fashioned lemon meringue pie recipe, you are the best! Big hugs from your friend in Texas Melissa
My Momma made Lemon meringue pie for the holidays back in the 70s when I was a kid. I always loved them.. She stopped making them and I never got a chance to get her recipe , I think this may be it. I followed and made Phyllis ' old fashion banana pudding recipe about six years ago, I made it this holiday in memory of my Mom. I was sad to hear about Phyllis, I enjoy watching her cooking videos.
This is the BEST PIE. I used to make it for my Dad.. we both loved it. Now I got nobody to share it with. Clabber Girl. We used Comstock when I was a kid
My mouth watered all the way through this video and wishing I had that pie on my counter right now,LOL. My mother taught us 4 girls how to cook like your mother did. I make Lemon Meringue pies all through the years here & there. One of my very favorites pies. Sometimes I just make the filling and eat it like a pudding when I'm lazy to make the whole pie. One thing thou I never made crust with a egg yolk in it so I'm going to try that. My mother cooked a lot like Phyllis. I bet Phyllis is having a glorious time in heaven with Jesus Christ and all her beloved ones there. May the good Lord bless all of you.
I've always wanted to make a homemade pie from scratch like my Grandmother did, but I was afraid of trying to make a pie crust from scratch. But, after seeing your videos on pies, I think I will attempt to try. In the fall. It's still too hot here in California to bake. #lemonmeringue, #sweetpotatopie, #bananacreampie, #love to bake.
I remember mother making this pie often as my dad preferred pies to cakes. This was my little brothers favorite pie & I once made it for his birthday but since have lost the recipe so now i am going to make this for him this saturaday & take it to him since now he is single, and does he cook or bake, noooo==!!
Thank you so much for this video you’ve taught me so much in the last two or three weeks I can’t seem to stop watching your videos, I lay awake at night time I watch your videos when I can’t sleep my mother never taught me how to make cake or pie because she never made a lot of those herself, but thank you to you I learned how to make a cake here about a month ago and I’m going to make this piecrust for Christmas thank you so much for doing these videos don’t ever stop! I don’t know if you’ve ever made an apple pie ? Thank you, Ms Phyllis
I have watched several of your videos and, like those, this is a great one. So detailed on the process. I really find the tips from your mother helpful. Smoothing the top out for one. The other is her trick to go around the edge if the crust with a knife. That is brilliant. I’ve made one pie in my life and the top edge of the crust was seemingly welded to the pie pan. Thanks!!
Notwithstanding that S. drawl and your matter of fact way are beyond charming, BUT AS GOOD, your lemon pie filling was SUPERB. I also loved the pie crust recipe as well - not having to go neurotic about bubbles during baking was for once SO very nice (I normally use Pâte Brisée for the crust, so you can well imagine my anxiety during pie crust baking). I was so desperate for a great lemon pie filling I even resorted to using (in Canada, I live in Italia now) Shirriff Lemon Pie Filling by Dr. Oetker which for powder is about as good as it gets (even tried Green's from the UK, nada again compared to your recipe). SO THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH. I used Amalfi Lemons (famous throughout all of Italia) and boy, oh boy, did they make that lemon pie filling taste so, so, very good. GRAZIE D'ITALIA Phyllis e un GRANDE abbraccio ti aspetta! BTW, my Italian relatives go gaga over the pie (a seldom seen desert in Italia). It seems lemon meringue pie is universal in its appeal - something that America is actually very good at, as for the rest of American cuisine...come to Italia to learn how to mangiare bene, la dolce vita and il bel far niente. Ciao bella.
Looks really good Phyllis. Thanks for all of your hard work bringing all the recipes you do. My mama makes a lemon pie using sweetened condensed milk. I like them either way,
Ohhhh my favorite pie ! Ms. Phyllis I can watch you cook forever ! Will you adopt me...hee hee. You remind me of my cooking teacher in school I'm definitely hooked on your video's I love you Ms.Phyllis God Bless you and Mr. Bucky and you're family...friend from Ocala Florida....❤
Hi Phyllis! I made your lemon meringue pie. I followed you step by step, 100% and it was runny. I have been trying to make my husband a lemon meringue pie for years and they all come out runny. My lemon curd was nice and thick, so I don't know what I did wrong. 😹😹😹😹
I 'm not sure why your pie was runny. Have you tried cooling it completely before slicing? Is your cornstarch past it best use date? Cooling gradually might help by leaving it in the oven after browning meringue by pulling out the oven rack and leaving the oven door open then transferring to the counter and finally putting it in the refrigerator. Meringue will weep if not fully cooked.
I actually have a hand-held grater with identical fine holes to what the box grater has. It's almost as if someone cut out a small section of that side of the Box grater and put a handle on it. I tried it on some lemons today it works pretty well.
You're a spectacular lady, Thank You so much for explaining every step of each process carefully with do's & don't's along with 50's method, ingredients & tips your mom taught💫💘💫 *I know a piece of your heart is still here🌤⛅
Gosh I miss this lady. I refer to her still for southern cooking. Just planted okra this spring. I’ll once again come back & cook those smothered pork chops with fried okra this coming summer months. Thank you to her son for keeping these videos. May she Rest In Peace...sweet lady Phyllis!
I really wish the deer near my house didn't love okra as much as I do....

Never have seen her recipes posted below, sometimes I have to rewatch to get it all!☺
It's impressive how very special people come to create recipes so delicious
It just is so interesting how things we remember from our childhood make us feel so good when we get older. My mom made this pie. This is more comforting to me than apple pie. Loved watching you make this Phyllis. Thanks!
MrTomalu I totally agree with you. 😍😍
Karen Diamond how did it go?
I love your cooking

For the last 3 yrs I have made lemon meringue pie for my brothers birthday, it is his favorite pie & your recipe is the best. Thank you with love.

Ms. Phyllis, I made the Old Fashioned Lemon Meringue Pie this morning and it is absolutely delicious! Thank You!
Love and Miss you and Mr. Bucky.. Glad your Son is still putting on your Great recipes. God Bless Everyone
Came back from years of loving her cooking RIP
You have such a soothing, relaxed voice and demeanor and I love how you take us back to our childhood with your recipes. My Mom and grandma used this same recipe and I’m glad you’ve brought it back to us. I’ve been craving my Mom’s lemon meringue pie and couldn’t find her recipe! Thanks. I’m making it tomorrow😃
Love these videos!!! Phyllis' voice is so calming.
Hi Phyllis!,
I commented last week when I made this for my mother but now it's friday night and I have a picnic to attend tomorrow, so I'm making this pie and your Butterscotch pie.

I just discovered Ms. Phyllis last night, looking for lemon meringue videos. God bless her and Mr. Bucky and all of their dear ones.
To remove the grated rind from the grater….a little rubber pastry brush is best. 😊
Brush it off diagonally, both ways.
Phillis, I have never seen anyone bake as well as you since my grandma. When can I move in so I can learn all this good stuff. Coconut cream and chocolate pies are my fav.
Thanks for the walk through, Jenny. I'm glad you were able to get away for a few days. 🙂♥️

Wonderful video. It's very descriptive because I cannot see. I'm going to try to do this for my father. It's very nice.
I miss your Mom. I loved watching her in her videos.
I love the making of this pie. Just unfortunate I dont eat this sort of pie. Thank you for sharing.
I remember mother making this pie often as my dad preferred pies to cakes. This was my little brothers favorite pie & I once made it for his birthday but since have lost the recipe so now i am going to make this for him this saturaday & take it to him since now he is single, and does he cook or bake, noooo==!!
when I get the rest out of my grater I use an old clean toothbrush. it works great.
Here's my video on apple pie with a sauce to go on top of the pie and ice cream

She reminds me so much of my grandmother.
You have such a calming manner!
Thank you Ms.Phyllis for your buttermilk pie recipe. I have made 4 for my friends already..
Thanks!!
This is my favorite along with cherry pie!! Thanks for your recipe!!!!🦁
What a lovely baker you are! The lemon pie is looking so delicious. Thanks. Helene
Ciao bella.

Very good, my grandmother use to make it for me, love your cooking very good
Looks really good Phyllis.
Even the Saran rap obeys you..with a voice like that
You’re my favorite cook!!!
I bet STEVEN and/or BELLA can’t make a pie as good as Ms Phyllis! (Yes, that’s a double dog dare!)
I bought canned, lemon pie filling, just once. I did not care for the taste. I prefer it homemade from scratch.
Love Phyliss and Mr. Bucky!
Lemon and peach are my best pies! Just love em!
I actually have a hand-held grater with identical fine holes to what the box grater has. It's almost as if someone cut out a small section of that side of the Box grater and put a handle on it. I tried it on some lemons today it works pretty well.
I forgot to say your instructions were on point I could understand everything you were saying thank you !
I just made this:-) I cooked my meringue while I was making it. I could just eat the meringue by itself, my husband will be a happy man this evening.
Hi there, Just want to say thank you I loved your video. I made my meringue using this recipe.
Oh my goodness!!!! I was gonna suggest this and a lemon cake!!! Thank you Mrs. Phyllis.
You're a spectacular lady, Thank You so much for explaining every step of each process carefully with do's & don't's along with 50's method, ingredients & tips your mom taught💫💘💫
