Well, two of the stars have Australian accents (Jackman & Crow) and the two major female actors have an American accent (Hathaway & Seyfried). Digging deeper into the cast, two major actors do have English/British accents (Redmayne & Bonham-Carter). Overall, the cast was very much a pan-Anglosphere amalgamation. So much the better, eh?

It's a reversal of a line in the national anthem: "the enemy is coming to drench our fields with our compatriots' blood", as victims.
Here, it's martyrs, freedom fighters, victorious collectively, even when not all may live to see the day of victory and freedom.
A beautiful reference, upending and uplifting the national anthem.

I think that Victor Hugo is certainly one of the greatest romanticism novelist.
And,this movie expresses the importance of the tolerance and the strong will.

This bears as much relationship to Hugo's novel as Peter Jackson's do to Tolkien
It’s quite a good book. I’ve read it a few times and it’s one of those where you immerse yourself in the situations within the storyline. You can literally place yourself at that time period and feel what they’re feeling ….like walking through the cobblestones of the cities . Like you’re literally “ feeling “ what they’re feeling . There are so many books like that , but Les Miserable is a timeless classic , and it’s amazing how well it’s written .
Tolerance and strong will are definitely good points that this novel expresses. Lots of feeling evoked within it .
I just finished the book after 2-3 months… while it is a classic, Victor Hugo really needed an editor to rein in him on all those asides. (OK, the Waterloo one was a bit important to the plot, but did we really need to know about the Parisian sewers and slang?)
Oh, and Marius really needed a slap upside the head at times. At least the musical makes him a better character than in the book (in my opinion).

this movie is from a book who 98% of french studens have to read one day for school. the book was written by one of the most iconic french author, Victor Hugo, and it's about french history. this will NEVER be a "trump song".

The story is about misery, poverty and how we need to have a socialist government if we don't want our people to riot. Victor Hugo was very politic in his books and talked about socialistics reforms through his characters: Fantine to talk about legal abortion or helps to youngs mothers (or at least free healthcare so she didn't die ya know), Gavroche and Cosette to talk about laws to protect kids, Jean Valjean to talk about the cruelty of the justice and the bad conditions in prisons etc... And I don't see Trump in this things. If he was a character of Les Mis, he would be Javert and fuckin die.
I had only studied a small portion of the book when i was at 11th grade, particularly the part where Javert confronts Valjean after he revealed his true identity. I have watched the movie but I haven't read the book.
I wished they'd start translating French work in such a way that the language is more accessible to the English student. That way we can also read this stuff in school instead of Lord of the Flies :D
