  • My alternate version of Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5 "Bells"
I made this version of "The Bells" with the hope that adding in some scenes that might have been going through Dany's highly conflicted and traumatized state gives more perspective.
I also decided to change how Cersei meets her fate. Hopefully I didn't take too many liberties and it's clear.
I'm not here to judge what has been probably my favorite fantasy character, only to try and lend more perspective that could have motivated her to take such drastic measures.

She should never have listened to Tyrion...She could have easily gotten Kings landing with much less bloodshed and she would be able to unite Westeros against night king had she listened to Olena, Yara and Elaria earlier.

Hell, he even talked about the debt to Olenna so he definitely would've known and made a plan like smuggling the gold to Dragonstone and use High Garden as bait for Cersei before blockading King's Landing and idk letting Dany burn the castle to give her closure XD

@@Xenovid The problem with Tyrion is that he thought he is way smarter than actually was. He constantly told everyone he was smart, and others mentioned he was clever. But was he really? He had a good strategy for the battle, but other than that he heavily relied on his family's influence to get around. Seemingly hated Tywin, but constantly looked for his approval, until the last day he wanted to protect House Lannister.

One very subtle detail that everyone missed was that Daenerys never gave the order to Drogon to unleash dragonfire. They were both so desperate to avenge all of their losses and get the justice they both deserve. Drogon and Daenerys were one in that scene. It's really powerful!

I enjoyed Dany burning Kings Landing. The woman lost her dragon and lost almost half of her army fighting the night king for the worthless lives of everyone in King's Landing. They must have heard about the great battle and yet they didn't surrender until the end when she lost another of her dragons. Yet they waited again until she lost her close friend, while already having lost Jorah to the Night King. Cersei should've been turned on the minute the people heard the great war was over. Dyneres should've been celebrated. Even in Winterfell, they were all praising Jon Snow. We have all established at this point that the writing was bollocks. But looking at the events of what happened before the battle at King's Landing, I'm glad Dyneres burned all of them.

Another point of view i`ll give... Dany came to Westeros, with her 3 DRAGONS and the Dothraki..wanted to claim "what is rightfully hers"... Aegon Targaryen did the same 300 years before her, thousends of innocent died because of Him and his sisters.. and she did the same... nothing is permanent in life... everything is changing continously.. and would be easier if she would listen to John and the others and leave that throne mania. Look how many things John did to save innocent peoples life, he never did it to get the attention or be celebretad, but people acknowledge Him and the efforts he made. He did it because it was natural for Him to help and even forgive those who done something to Him, but Dany couldn`t do the same.

The people never liked cersei though. To them she's a brother lover. They were afraid of her. She started having the mountain go around killing them just for talking about her. She blew up their queen and their place of worship. They were powerless against her. What could they have done? Nothing will justify what Dany did to those innocent people who are peasants. Sure it was bad writing but still just as horrible. They may not have had chains but they were slaves in a different way.

Those in King’s Landing could’ve come to Dyneres and explain their intentions of wanting her on the iron throne. A leader of some kinds among the peasants as you say. With everything that was happening, it looked like the people didn’t want Dyneres even after everything she did for the living, and so they just kept quiet and let Cersi kill her best friend and one of her children. All of them, every single one of them, the Lannister soldiers, the people, Cersi, the other houses, the northern people, they should’ve all been on their knees thanking her.

She had so much taken from her, and she was done listening to bad advice from her hand. Her instincts were to defeat her threats (the Knight King and Cersei), break the neverending wheel of bad that we'd seen had collected in Kings Landing. And she did that as well. She followed Olenna's advice to stop listening to the Lords of Westeros (sheep) and be the dragon she was. I believe she deserved the right to rule and from what i saw, she would have been a great new beginning for the Seven Kingdoms.

Tyrion's advices lead Daenerys forces into ambush many times.
And Daenerys actually suspected that he might not be just an idiot, but a traitor and Cersei's spy.
This could also explain why she was triggered by the sound of bells for she believed the surrender was a
trick by Tyrion conspiring with Cersei.Especially if Dany had received a message from her unsullied
that Tyrion freed Jaime and they both supposedly defected to Cersei exactly the moment when she was
about to fly to battle. And she actually heard a voice from the city:"Queen we are surrounded! Queen help us!",
which could be misunderstood for a distress signal from her own troops.
So she decided to bombard area ahead her troops to protect them from whatever trap could be.
This caused explosions of Aerys's wildfire which she recognized as if it was wildfire trap indeed
(pseudo wildfire trap theory). And she would genuinly believe that she indeed liberated the
city from a tyrant destroying it with wildfire. Then Daenerys arrests Tyrion for espionage "staring at him with anger,
disgusted that she trusted him so deeply for so long" according to the script.
Ironically Daenerys slaughtered a city only because Tyrion freed his brother.
Just like invasion of White Walkers happened only because Tyrion wanted
to use the White Walkers as a case for parley with Cersei! Daenerys was never mad!
Drogon took Daenerys body east towards Volantis. Towards nearest red priestess.
Daenerys is resurrected by a red priestess. First she learns how to fight with a sword.
Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow will die by her hand! Revenge and Justice! Kill Bill Targaryen style.

She didn't _break_ the wheel, she became the next spoke on it. A good leader needs to maintain sound judgment through extremely painful personal loss, or, failing that, hand off command to someone who can think clearly until they can do so themselves, once again. She did neither. Her actions may be _understandable,_ but they were _never_ justified. There is a very large distinction to be drawn there. If I was to use this line of reasoning, Cersei's behavior was just as "justified." She was a piece of shit even before events such as the Siege of King's Landing but she experienced genuine, relatable trauma and it pushed her further and further off the slippery slope into insanity.
It doesn't help that Dany's behavior _after_ it was all said and done was just as monstrous. Something in her broke that day, and even if she would've been a good ruler not even the day before, I don't think she would've done a good job afterwards. Jon made the right decision in putting her down. Hell. It was one of the only _good_ decisions he made that whole season. If you believe that she simply stooped to the same level that her ancestors or the rest of Westeros considered the norm, I would disagree, but for the sake of argument, let's say that's true. Well, then her ultimate fate, killed by her own lover, seems to me to _also_ simply be business as usual. Like her father before her, her deeds caught up to her. In the end, she really _wasn't_ anything special. Another would-be ruler who perhaps once upheld high ideals, but allowed cutthroat Westerosi politics to beat them into the muck with the rest of the spokes.

He was constantly teetering in good and bad like most of humanity.
Dani did her best to adapt but when you have the type of evil that exists like what existed at Kings Landing, you have to make difficult calls. You are mostly right about how “she didn’t kill civilians only slave masters.” Don’t forget about the Tarlys. Sam’s father and brother. That was a tough call but they gave her no choice. I see so many disappointed by Dani’s arc. My only disappointment was that we didn’t get to see her rule.
Tyrion’s journey was perhaps the biggest disappointment. In the second half of the series, his wit and judgement was poor. She trusted him. He betrayed her. And in the end, he was a complete hypocrite as you do astutely pointed out.
He wasn’t worthy of being her hand.

I have the impression that the showrunners were UNABLE to assume until the end the amoral side of the universe that's why we end up with a happy ending to vomit for the most victimized family of the series, those who have always only defended themselves or counter-attacked even though they themselves used more than dubious methods to achieve their end. the problem is that they were so busy demonizing Dany by massacring or making those close jerks that they didn't notice that all the pillars that made the series famous were crumbling in same time. Dany's fall is in no way the LOGICAL CONSEQUENCE of her decisions but is caused by an improbable succession of bad luck and a hell of a lot of bad faith all the same (yes it's you I'm talking to sansafinger), All the very progressive has become narrowly conservative of the order of things outside the system is not perfect but it will surely/maybe/probably end up evolving one day. this is why, although having started with an incompetent king because he does not want to be, we end up with a competent king judge because he does not want to be. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣! All the sociological and political realism of the series is by this simple replica become a fucking joke (worse still when it's VARYS who says it), and YES "bran the broken" to entrust vital positions to individuals who have no clearly nothing to do there under the pretext that basically they are not bad buggers is nothing but a Disney logic with 2 balls.

I was Team Dany all the way through the first viewing. Her coin flipped, and not for the good. Everyone suffers loss, especially during times of war. And it does not give you the right to slaughter the innocent. Even Aegon the Conqueror knew that. The more I watched and read the books, her demise was always foreshadowed. And that broke my heart, as I loved her character and all she had done. I wish she had stayed in Essos where she had done so much good.

    • @pelecanoides

    • @xo_kylem6735

I would disagree. In war, everyone is fair play. It is the job of the people who rule over you to protect you. Daenerys and Jon defended the people of The North against the Night King. Cersei chose to use her own people as shield. She packed the Red Keep with as many people as she could because she thought Dany would never harm them.
Daenerys' "coin" did not just flip out of nowhere. It was a culmination of losses and betrayal that pushed her over the edge. The last straw was when Cersei put Missandei back in chains and killed her right in front of her.
Aegon burned Harrenhal down. It is not known how many people were in it, but we can assume there were innocent people in the castle as well. Aegon also burned entire Dornish towns over and over together with Visenya with their 2 huge dragons, after the Dornish killed Queen Rhaenys and her dragon, Meraxes. When pushed over the edge, Targaryens are not afraid to use their weapons.

@@pelecanoides Some people say she will eventually have to die in the books. It's part of the prophecy. However, the show has deviated so far from the source. I mean, Dany is still in Essos in the books with a dragon the size of a horse. So we're really far from her siege of King's Landing.

I, for one didn't think Season 8 was hugely terrible. I truly feel they didn't think the final two episodes through and the writing definitely suffered because of that. However: Cersi should never have died like that, more, much more was needed in her death! Jon was not the instrument to have caused Dany's death, but in all likelihood they could never have ruled together, So. Problems in abundance, but if they had tried a Season 9 maybe we viewer's would not be so disappointed.

Im sorry but if you think Dany not crying over the death of her brother is a sign of insanity, then idk what else to tell you. Maybe you need to rewatch? Idk?

Agreed. I don’t think Dany did anything someone who had gone through what she did wouldn’t do. They took so much from her.
The alternate ending was two main ideas. To give context to her minds thoughts of her beloved and most trusted friends murdered by unjust and unworthy adversaries.
Secondly, Cersei’s fate in the TV show was unfitting in mine and many others’ opinions. Cersei meets a rightful death by Drogon’s dragon fire in my version.
