"Money" solo on my Jackson San Dimas "Jack Butler" Pro Series, Pink Floyd, David Gilmour
One of my favorite solos from The Dark Side of the Moon is from Money.
The Jackson "Jack Butler" San Dimas Pro Series continues to be my go-to guitar. You may recognize this guitar as the one Steve Vai played in the 1980s classic "Crossroads." Jackson made a limited run of these in 2020 as a tribute and I found one used last year and bought as a collector's item because the movie inspired me when I was a kid. I'm surely no Steve Vai or Jack Butler, but it has become my favorite guitar hands down. No deals with "Scratch" required.

David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl, Oct. 29, 2024
Просмотров 809Месяц назад
Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to see David Gilmour live at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. - a venue I’ve always admired, even though L.A. isn’t exactly my scene. The last time I saw Gilmour in concert was 30 years ago with Pink Floyd on the Division Bell tour at Texas Stadium. Despite the not-so-great seats, that show has remained my favorite. Back then, it never crossed my mind that...

"Feel the new wind of change, on the wings of the night." My musical tribute to my musical hero, David Gilmour, "On the Turning Away." on my Jackson San Dimas "Jack Butler" and a Helix LT I'm not a gifted guitar player, and this is not without error, but I do love to play what I can, especially if it's a selection from the master himself. Thanks for watching!

Breaking in my newly acquired Jackson Pro Series San Dimas Jack Butler Limited Issue with some Gilmour bends from “Time” In truth, it’s actually breaking me in. I typically play 9s but this beauty came to me with heavier strings. While it’s more difficult to bend, the heavier strings are more controlled bends. I’m late to the Jackson goodness as I’m mostly a Strat guy but I’m just floored at ho...
MSG Sphere near The Strip in Las Vegas

Last night we visited the newly debuted MSG Sphere, a new concert venue near The Strip in Las Vegas. It was quite the hike but I wanted to get a close up look at this impressive display. They were testing some different slides so I patched them together. The 17,500-seat venue will open officially later this year with U2 as it’s first performance (if I understand correctly). The Sphere is 366 fe...

Welcome to the 12-string shootout. As promised, I asked on the 12-string Facebook group if they’d be interested in seeing a comparison and here it is. I hope you enjoy. Three quality 12-string guitars. I’ll only be keeping one of them. Leave a message in the comments on which you would keep and why. Completely unedited raw audio for the sake of comparison. Please excuse my novice playing. There...

Bron Y Aur by Led Zeppelin cover on an Eastman E40D-SB

After a long North American concert tour In 1970, Led Zeppelin decided to retreat to a privately owned 18-century cottage in Wales called Bron-Yr-Aur (Welsh translation is Golden Hill) and started writing songs for their “Led Zeeppelin III” album. “So we took our guitars down there and played a few bits and pieces,” Jimmy Page said. “This wonderful countryside, panoramic views and having the gu...

Does this Eastman have a pickup or is the sound coming from a microphone? It looks like it has a cable connected to it.
Hey thanks for watching. I have two inputs on this recording. One is from the K&K pickup and the other is from the Shure KSM32 mic you see pictured. Hope this answers your question.
@@Xenovid Hi! Okay, thanks so much!!!
I'd go with Eastman for the 12" fretboard radius -- same as Gibson and friendlier to my hand than Martin's flatter 16" -- and invest the 2k savings elsewhere.
❤❤❤❤
The viedo does not give the exact sounds or overtones, for this is youtube. I personally tried these guitars and ended up with the Gibson 12-string. Why ? Any company can make a great and / or poor sounding guitar. I was checking out 12 strings and even played a martin HD28 12, and still the Gibson won out. I am definitely a martin man, but Gibson was a next level guitar in that store and, therefore, went home.
The Guild being older has had time for the wood to open up. For me the Guild or the Eastman.
Wow. First of all - thank you! You just saved me from wasting a SL of money! (Again..) I was locked in on buying the Gibson. The your video comes up. At first, I thought to myself hmm that Gibson is a decent 12 string ax. Then you took the Eastman and I was like damn! That one sounds way better than the Gibson… And then you started playing the Guild and I was straight out blown away!!! The Guild sounds like a fantasy. That’s all I want from a 12 string. Now I’m gonna go find me one of those. THANK YOU!!!
So which one did you keep please? Thanks.
Went with the Eastman. Started to get nervous about the bridge on the Guild even though luthier said it was fine. Eastman sounded just as good to my ears and it had a pickup and was almost 1/3 the price of the Guild. The Gibson was never a consideration because the dread shape just didn’t make it a strong contender vs. these two in my book. If you find one of these Eastmans, get it. You won’t regret it.
Guild win from other.
Koa wins
Eastman Larrivee Martin in that order. Martin muffled, Larrivee a little to much high end punch ! IMHO
I think that the Guild and the Eastman both sound better than the Gibson. It's probably that they are both jumbo guitars compared to the dreadnaught. For me between the Guild and the Eastman I'd choose the Guild. I've been playing their guitars for almost 50 years and I haven't ever been dissapointed by them.
Can't beat a Guild 12 string!...
Guild. Rich and powerful.
“Fractured Mirror”! xoxo The Clarences
$2200 for a used guild the Eastman used maybe $1000 and the Gibson at least $2500. ..so I guess it may also matter your budget
Sorry the Larrivee is incredible
Are these all using the same strings? I love my Larrivee OM44R but the Martin blows the Larrivee away in this one.
I thought the Eastman was too bright and not enough bass resonance. The Larrivee had more bass and warmth. The Martin had all those overtones and trebles I’d take the Larrivee as well it’s cheaper than the Martin but seems more balanced.
I’m glad I got the Mahogany and Koa, and not the Rosewood.
I love Eastman guitars and own a E20D but I've owned a Guild F212 since 1970 so I'm a bit biased but, if I had to choose, I'd go with the Guild. The Eastman would be my second choice but it's so close. They all sound great. Very tough choice.
Clean
Two factors are top of my thoughts for buying a 12-string. #1 = maple neck, because a mahog can snap and the structural creep over time may need truss adjustment regularly. #2 = top-nut should not be much less than 2", should be 2.125 for man hands, but 1.75 is ridiculous (and common) and only for women (even on a 6-string!). The industry goes to endless variations of looks, but they dread to add visible size to the neck at the top-nut. Sustain is going to be better with a maple neck. Why stick with mahog? Certainly many have tried maple (probably Simon & Patrick). The Eastman appears to have the biggest top-nut, and it has the deeper sound spectrum (lower resonant frequency for wah-wah generation).
I saw two online and bought one, due Monday. I already have one in Sunburst, so sweet I got another.
First strum on the Martin HD-28 is enough to say it is better than Eastman by far.
Currently looking looking at all 3 of these models. How do they all conpare in person? Do you have a favourite?
I ended up selling all three of these, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. If I had to pick one, the Martin HD-28 is probably my favorite dreadnaught. I ended up getting another HD-28 recently that just floored me. If you're on a budget, the Eastman can be had for signficantly less than the others and it's phenomenal. Play em all and go with what your ears tell you.
One of my favorite Gilmour solos. Super nice performance, well done!
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
Holy delay pedal. Great job man
Haha. Indeed on the delay. Thanks for the kind words!
Wonderful video. Like the tone on the Eastman, would have liked to hear one of the Martins in the competition, but getting four guitars isn't always so easy to do!
nice
The F-412 has a certain interval space between the octaves that sounds like no other. To my ear, it also has the best performing balance across the tonal spectrum.
I hope you kept the Eastman. The Guild sounds good to, being that it's Maple. Gott 'a say though, that Eastman is hard to beat. I'm curious to know which one you kept.
I did end up staying with the Eastman. It wasn't an easy choice, because the Guild was amazing, but the Eastman just checked off more categories for me. It's a keeper.
Gibson the best
Guild
Man they all sound goof
Cards on the table: I already own an Eastman AC330e (in ultra-rare sunburst) that I bought while I was living in China back in 2021. It had a few issues that needed resolving, but after a new nut and a thorough set-up it's a wonderful instrument that more than meets my 12-string needs (I'm a fingerstyle instrumentalist). Having said that, I have to say that I'm not sure just how much of a fair comparison we have here: here in the UK at least the Eastman is less than a third of the price of a new Gibson J45-12, and half the price of the Guild, even assuming you can find one new. There is a worry therefore that this is an exercise in comparing apples with oranges. On watching the video above, however, the Guild is the very obvious winner for me: it just has more DEPTH then the other two and a wonderful richness to the sound that makes you realise why for years Guild was the go-to brand if you wanted a top-quality 12-string acoustic. Second is the Eastman: it's toppier and a bit more strident than the Guild, lacking its fulsome mid-range, but still has a lovely, full bottom end that would sound fabulous through a decent PA system. That extra treble does wonders for clarity and note definition as well. As a fingerstylist, therefore, that would be still be the one I'd pick. By contrast, the Gibson does nothing for me, it just sounds...bland and entirely lacking in character. Given that it's by far the most expensive guitar here (as well as Gibson's notorious reputation for quality control issues), I'd have to ask what I'm paying beyond the name on the headstock, something that means absolutely zilch to me.
Eastman all the way.
Eastman sounded the best.
Well done, thanks !
I remember a bit of him. Couple of short conversations in the yard, and in those times he never told me he was a hero. But then, his generation never felt they had to. I think when you can make it back from doing what he did for us on the far side of the world, a quiet family life at home would be the sweetest blessing, and remember what you did it all for.
I'm sticking with my Gibson J185 12 string in flame maple with AAA sitka top. But, all of those guitars are totally gorgeous! I never met a guitar I didn't like!
This story make me cry..He is a live forever..
Martin, Larrivee close behind (very close), then Eastman
I have the Guild 1512 Rosewood. The maple is a little bright for me but I think I like the Eastman in here.
This was so unnecessary!
Eu gostei muito do filme mais essa cena corta a cabeça da pessoa não gostei e muito barbaro muito triste cenas muito fortes .
Eastman, hands down. Unparalleled quality and value. A working musician's tool for the stage or studio.
You are correct. However, rosewood makes the diff in 12-strings for performance. For that, the Yamaha LL16, for $1k takes it.
You may have just sold me another Eastman. I have their "beginner" level a-style Mandolin, and it's about 90% as good as my Collings, at less than a quarter of the price. This Eastman sounds 90% as good as the Guild, at less than a third of the price. Sign me up. It may even have a bit more volume / projection than the Guild!
as an avid Gibson J45 owner, I prefer it to be in 6 string only. If I ever want a 12 string acoustic, it'll be a Guild.
Definately the Guild for me.... I own one myself of course....
The guild sounds the most chimey due likely to the maple body. The eastman sounds perfect which is great but I don't associate with 12 string play as I like a more folksy garage band sounding 12. The Gibson was to midrange for me in a 12 but it sounded great just the same just that the low level of chime didn't work for me.
